Greg Belfrage talks with callers about Facebook scam ads. The federal government wants to open an investigation into these scam ads. Facebook charges a higher price to "advertisers" they think are scams, basically a pay to play mentality. The scam ads are significantly less on google and x platforms. The Alberta Legislature is back, and Premier Danielle Smith is swinging at everyone in sight. This week, Cheryl and Erika debate the government's plan to legislate teachers back to work, the unprecedented strike that led here, and what a “work-to-rule” classroom could look like for Alberta families. Plus, they dive into the province's move toward two-tier healthcare and whether paying privately for MRIs and bloodwork will fix the system or quietly bleed it dry. And: the so-called “Wyant Report” the Premier's office claims to be cleared of wrongdoing in Alberta's health procurement scandal — except it wasn't. Cheryl unpacks what the report actually says, why journalists missed the story, and how the government's spin turned into a masterclass in message control.

Today on Mea Culpa, I'm joined by former Montana Senator Jon Tester, a third-generation farmer, former school teacher, and current co-host of Grounded, as well as a political analyst for MSNBC. From his seat on the Senate Appropriations Committee and as Chair of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Tester built a reputation for cutting through the noise and fighting for working people. We unpack how Trump's authoritarian rhetoric is deepening political divisions, the economic fallout from his tariffs, and why rising inflation continues to hammer working families. Tester weighs in on military weapons deals, the fragility of American institutions, and why Democrats must stop playing defense. We also discuss the renewed focus on Jeffrey Epstein, what it reveals about elite power structures, and why truth still matters in an age of disinformation. With a new book hitting the market every eight seconds, standing out has never been harder—and for many authors, the temptation to pay for visibility is real. But does paying for reviews or influencer features actually work? And more importantly… is it worth the risk?In this episode, Penny Sansevieri and Amy Cornell pull back the curtain on the rapidly shifting world of paid book promotion. From once-taboo paid reviews to TikTok influencers charging thousands per post, the rules have changed—but that doesn't mean the results are guaranteed. You'll hear real-world stories of paid promotions gone sideways, including AI-generated reviews that spoil endings and pricey group ads that vanish without a trace. https://teachhoops.com/ The landscape of amateur athletics, particularly at the collegiate level and increasingly in high school, has been irrevocably altered by the advent of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals. What was once an aspirational journey driven primarily by passion for the game, academic opportunity, and the dream of professional sports, is now intertwined with significant financial incentives. This episode delves into the complex and often controversial world of NIL, specifically exploring the growing concern that these deals are, in effect, "pricing out" a segment of tomorrow's athletes. We'll examine how NIL, while designed to allow athletes to profit from their own personal brand, has quickly evolved into a powerful recruiting tool and a de facto free agency system within college sports. This has created a dynamic where lucrative deals, often facilitated by "collectives" of wealthy boosters, are becoming a key differentiator in attracting top talent. We'll discuss the impact this has on parity and competitive balance, as programs with deeper pockets and more active donor bases can seemingly offer more enticing financial packages, potentially leaving less resourced schools at a significant disadvantage in the race for elite recruits. Beyond the collegiate realm, we'll explore the ripple effects extending into high school sports. While rules vary by state (Wisconsin, for instance, has recently allowed high school NIL deals with some restrictions), the growing presence of money in the equation can create new pressures and a shift in priorities for young athletes. Is the focus moving from fundamental skill development, teamwork, and academic achievement to brand building and securing early financial opportunities? We'll discuss the potential for exploitation, the widening gap between athletes with marketability and those without, and the ethical dilemmas of introducing professional-level financial considerations to athletes who are still developing, both on and off the field. Join us as we question whether the promise of NIL is creating a future where athletic opportunity becomes less about talent and dedication, and more about who can afford to play the game. Episode Description:In this episode of Plugged In, Chris Howard dives headfirst into the deep end of what's really going on in sports right now — and trust, it's bigger than the box score. We're breaking down how youth sports have turned into a cash-grab country club, where talent takes a backseat to bank accounts. Then it's on to the NCAA and the chaos of NIL — billions on the table, no leadership in sight, and players left to navigate a broken system. We also dig into the WNBA's so-called “physicality problem.” Is the league too tough… or are new fans just uncomfortable watching confident Black women play with fire? And finally — ESPN. The brand that used to run the sports world is now caught between viral noise and an identity crisis. Is it still the leader, or just chasing clout? It's raw, it's real, and it's all right here on Plugged In. The Inside Scoop with Anytime Soccer Training - Discussing Youth Soccer from Around the World
Hey everyone, Neil Crawford here, founder of Anytime Soccer Training. In this episode of The Inside Scoop, I'm diving into one of the most talked-about — and misunderstood — issues in American youth soccer: pay-to-play.I recently watched a YouTube video titled “The Real (Optimistic) Truth About Pay-to-Play in America” and had a thoughtful exchange with the host. It sparked this episode because, while the video raised some valid points, many people miss a critical nuance when comparing the U.S. system to countries like England, Germany, or Brazil.Yes, soccer is more expensive for families here. But what often gets overlooked is that we're demanding and paying for a very different product — more training, more paid coaches, more structure. In many other countries, most kids play under volunteers with minimal costs and far fewer services. So while it's true that players abroad might pay less, they're also getting less — at least until they enter elite academies, which only a tiny percentage of kids ever do.In this episode, I break that down and explain why I think the U.S. system is flawed — but not always in the way it's portrayed. Here is the video: https://youtu.be/ThOcraYEhro?si=8EoW5UnWIsbwjPLuLet's get better together.

Today, the most expensive judicial election in U.S. history concludes in Wisconsin. The prime reason is the expectation that, if the leftist candidate being supported by immense amounts of money from George Soros and other Democrat donors, Susan Crawford, prevails she will inject herself in deciding congressional redistricting. It would give the term “activist judge” a new meaning. Crawford appealed to donors at a January event billed as “a chance to put two more House seats in play in 2026,” supporting electoral maps designed to make those Republican districts into ones favoring Democrats, possibly impacting control of the federal House of Representatives. While various courts across the country have injected themselves into redistricting disputes, it's astounding that a judicial candidate is so nakedly selling her seat to interested partisans. That's a precedent that should not be set in Wisconsin today. This is Frank Gaffney.

It's officially two weeks until Election Day, and SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk wants you to vote — for former President Donald Trump, obviously. In fact, Musk wants you to vote so badly that he says he's giving out $1 million a day to people in swing states who sign his petition supporting the rights to free speech and to bear arms. It's part of an effort to get more Republicans registered to vote. Except legal experts we spoke with — like Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin and UCLA election law professor Rick Hasen — say the whole scheme is likely illegal. Later in the show, NPR National Correspondent Sarah McCammon talks about where the white Evangelical vote stands after Roe. v. Wade was overturned. And in headlines: A major election watcher says Pennsylvania's Senate race is now a ‘tossup,' the group of men formerly known as the Central Park Five filed a defamation lawsuit against Trump, and the Biden Administration says it's proposing a new rule to make private health insurers cover more contraceptives.Show Notes:Check out Sarah's reporting – https://tinyurl.com/234aj3vrSubscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday
