Stephanie Allen, a strategic CEO advisor and fractional COO, reminds us about the need to ask if we can give feedback. If the other person is not ready to receive it, we're likely wasting everyone's time and creating unnecessary conflict. She also reminds us that feedback is a gift, and sometimes it's a gift we didn't think we needed. Feedback loops are important; while we can't control people, we can influence them. One key aspect to all of this is, “Don't accept assumptions.” Leaders need to clarify and verify.Radical Feedback by Kim ScottFor more info regarding feedback and how you can develop yourself or your team, email contact@learningbridge.com.Brought to you by the LearningBridge Team Check out the free Q&A videos that we have produced with tips to help you receive feedback graciously and act on it visibly at www.learningbridge.com/tips.

Show Notes We are in for a real treat today. I have already spent nearly three hours of discussion regarding Your Artistic Identity with our very special guest, Dr. Stephanie Allen. My problem today is not regarding “what I want to talk about,” but what I have to leave out because Stephanie has so much wisdom to share. Stephanie Allen holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota. She teaches violin to students of all ages in her school Violin Technique Coaching. But Stephanie's expertise is not exclusively regrading violin or music in general. She teaches anyone how to bring your inherent art form out of hiding someplace within. And she is a master at her craft! Stephanie is committed to preserving both the artist and the art. She writes this, “Music is in my DNA. I have a beautiful lineage of musicians in my family. But the art of mastery is not something you can inherit. It is a path that is studied, practiced, learned, and explored. It is an intentional path. Often, the art of mastery is a path that is wrought with pain, fear, performance anxiety, and abuse. But it does not have to be. Mastery demands structure and regimen, but it does not demand fear or stress. Stephanie is a master artist who has developed a brilliant methodology for teaching violin and for helping artists in general how to thrive in their art. And oh, by the way, Stephanie believes that every single one of us possesses that artist within. We will talk about that. Please visit Stephanie's lovely website at https://www.violintc.com/ for more information.

The limited series, consisting of four 60-minute episodes, reveals the deep historic impact of Black presence in Canada. Executive produced by Jen Holness and Sudz Sutherland, BLK: An Origin Story is helmed by Hungry Eyes' award-winning production team, who takes viewers on a nationwide journey through time to discover the untold story of Black people in Canada and their legacy, which dates back to 1608. BLK: An Origin Story is steeped in riveting, enduring, and multi-faceted historical Black Canadian narratives. Each episode transports viewers to a different Canadian location and provides chronologically significant insights into the consequences of Black presence in the areas. Featured outposts include Nova Scotia, Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec. The series also highlights the legacy of Black contributions to the larger story of Canada itself, dating back to when explorer Mathieu de Costa first set foot on shore, more than 400 years ago. BLK: An Origin Story acts as an immersive and informative chapter of Black Canadian history, elevating remarkable Black Canadians previously unacknowledged in mainstream social, academic, and cultural circles, normalizing their unique stories as a matter of general record. “As Canadian creatives, BLK: An Origin Story embodies our professional mission to champion fresh, and authentic perspectives toward storytelling. We crossed the country and spoke, listened, and learned. The result is four hours of programming that resets the understanding of Black history in Canada. It was important for us to deliver the series as a comprehensive, multi-layered, multi-disciplinary, and essential Canadian journey. We are grateful to the stalwarts, knowledge keepers, and storytellers from Black Canadian communities and locations from Vancouver to Halifax, with Owen Sound, Amherstburg, Windsor, and Montreal as points in between. They've shared the immense generational experiences and events documented in each episode. We view history, and Black contribution to Canadian history as a defining part of Canada's overall identity, from both an inward and outward gaze,” said Jennifer Holness, Executive Producer, Hungry Eyes Media Group. “It is a crucial time in our country's history to reflect on and share the important Black narratives that influenced our nation,” said Lisa Godfrey, Senior Vice President of Original Content and Corus Studios. “We are proud to partner with the talented storytellers at Hungry Eyes Media who have developed this must-see and influential docu-series.” “Black people are entitled to know how they have taken up space in Canada, going back to the beginning of how the country's identity has been shaped. The historic learnings that we share in this documentary series are vitally important for our communities since we cannot move forward without acknowledging our tremendous contributions to Canada's past,” said Sudz Sutherland. “In shedding these lights, the series contributes to the larger societal conversation toward dismantling systemic racism.” BLK: An Origin Story elevates the unsung heroes who substantially contributed to Canada's nation-building and to Black Canadian history. The series shines a spotlight on the origins of diverse and deeply entrenched Black Canadian experiences, which range from being transported, escaped, or freely traveled within Canada. Part history book, part geography lesson, each of the four episodes leverages compelling footage, art, locations, archival materials, and interviews from some of the country's best known and under-known experts of Black Canadian lore, facts, and pedagogy. The list of authors, academics, musicians, historians, community leaders, activists, and elders include George Elliot Clarke, Lawrence Hill, Charmaine Nelson, El Jones, May Q Wong, and Stephanie Allen, among others. Have a Conversation with Your Clients About “Where Do We Go Next?” Stephanie Allen is in the hot seat this week with two burning questions about retaining clients and how to measure where your leads come from. I have no doubt that you will find something for yourself in our discussion. Stephanie is the owner of not one, but two companies—Stephanie Allen Consulting, where she is the primary management consultant and The Peaceful Parentpreneur, where she coaches executives on how to get clear on what matters to their family and business. Stephanie had two questions she wanted coaching on, the first being how to sell your next service to a client you are doing work for before you wrap up the current work project. I love this question because it is really about what I call the Second Sale Strategy. Listen in to hear how I coach Stephanie on how to: Clean up her current service parameters so that there is a defined line of where one service ends and the next service begins Ask the right questions to uncover what her client needs next Seed her other services into conversation with the client Offer the client what she thinks they need next to achieve their big goal without sounding pushy or awkward Make selling a natural part of the conversation and NOT leave it to your last interaction with the client Stephanie's second coaching question was, “How do I measure where my leads are coming from?” This led to a conversation you won't want to miss on how to realistically keep track of your leads, what the best lead sources are, and what the real purpose behind writing valuable content for your website and social media channels is. Psst...it probably isn't what you think! It is one of my favourite things to dig into a real-life business and find out what the one thing the business owner can do to make a leap forward in reaching their goal is. Is Stephanie's one thing the same as yours? Tune in to find out! To often as mothers, business owners, wives and all the other roles we play as women, we decide that its better for us to keep our feelings inside. We bottle them up and lock them away with a key. We think that as long as we keep functioning in our daily life that the feelings will just go away. Some of us even fear what others will say about us if we do open up honestly about how we are feeling. Today, lets put all the feelings on the table and talk about it with Stephanie Allen. Taking urban studies personally, and taking the crimes and injustices done to people in the city, sometimes as part of urbanization, sometimes as its aberration – is radical work. In this episode, we honour Black History Month, the 29th annual February 14th Women’s Memorial March, and the choice to do urban research that is at the frontier of disgrace, dispossession, and sometimes abject horror. With alumna Stephanie Allen and with Shadbolt Fellow Lucia Lorenzi, we raise questions of home, identity, violence and evil along with the attitudes and efforts that can carry this hard work forward.
