Today's conversation is with David Davis. David is a Rolf Structural Integration practitioner and instructor recently relocated to Tucson, Arizona where he continues to bring the beauty that is The Work of Dr. Ida P. Rolf to his new home.   During his first Structural Integration session he anticipated relief from chronic pain and disability due to sports injuries, physical labor, and an auto accident, but he was in awe with the new sense of comfort, relaxation, and natural mode that resulted. As his body, mind, and spirit were awakened through the holistic manipulation of fascia and alignment of the body structure, David was inspired to began a new life journey. He began his training at the Rolf Institute in 1976 – 1977, during the time when Dr. Ida P. Rolf was alive and Rolfing℠ and Structural Integration were synonymous.   That first session would lead him to becoming the seventh Rolfer℠ in the state of Colorado, practicing The Work for 45 years, and being an instructor for 33 years. David has been one the most well respected and sought-after teachers of SI nationally and internationally.  In today's conversation we spoke about David's experience as a Rolfer in the 1970's, how to build a practice as an SI practitioner, a lot of great stories and anecdotes from a practitioner with over 40 years of experience who studied with Dr Rolf, Emmett Hutchins, Peter Melchior and many other original Rolfers, technique vs process, PerSoma, "seeing" and bodyreading,  and a ton more. During this week's podcast episode, Katie mentions it as one of the therapies she tried on her trauma healing journey.Acro Yoga + What is Rolfing?Katie mentions trying acroyoga along with the Rolfing method. Above you will find where I linked to AcroYoga. It combines the fitness + play of acrobatics, the healing + movement of therapeutics, and the balance + connection of yoga. The Rolfing method was named after its founder, after its founder, Dr. Ida P. Rolf. The official Rolfing website describes Rolfing as, "A process that enables the body to regain the natural integrity of its form, thus enhancing postural efficiency and your freedom of movement."WP ThyroidWP Thyroid is a natural thyroid medication. Katie mentions she took it early in her Hashimoto's healing journey. I wanted to shine an extra light on it because I still take it and am confident in it. If you want to learn more about it, you'll find WP Thyroid HERE.Oura RingThe most accurate guide on sleep, readiness, and activity. Katie says she used and found a ton of value in this during her deep healing period. And yes, the Oura Ring is actually a ring you wear. And now I think I need one.Phosphatidyl CholineI have heard Katie mention her choline issues a few different times on various podcast episodes. She talks about it in this podcast episode as well. Essentially, from doing a lot of testing, she found that she wasn't getting enough choline. Eggs are a huge source of choline, and she is still unable to consume eggs. Choline is important fort the Gutsy community because Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon and acts as a surfactant within the mucus to create a hydrophobic surface to prevent bacterial penetrance. Furthermore, four human trials have been performed to determine the efficacy of PC in the treatment of UC (ulcerative colitis). I'd love to explore Phosphatidylcholine more.Wrap UpTime to wrap this up. As always, a huge goal for this show is to connect with even more people. Michael works as a Rolfer and therefore works with the body every day; and, he states, “we are not properly introduced to our bodies in this culture.” He designates most of the hours of each day touching people, and the underlying philosophy may surprise you. This episode reminds us all to attend to the form from which we manifest each moment. Michael's meaning in life is born from attending to people's body, and his personal story will help you understand how he has become so enlightened by his work on the body as a student of the biochemist, Ida Rolf, Ph.D. Growing up on the East Coast, living on the East Side in New York City in the late 60s, and then moving to California in the 60s opened Michael's eyes beyond what he had come to know in his traditional upbringing at all male boarding schools and Yale University, wherein he studied Russian literature. From random nights watching a live performance from Lou Reed in the east side of New York City in the late 60s to random encounters with Ram Dass or Alan Watts, Michael has a deep connection with the epicenter of the explosion of American counterculture and the exploration of human consciousness in the late 60s and 70s in California. Michael discusses how Eslen and Ida Rolf were both at the center of his studies of the body and consciousness.
