Healing alchemy: That load you struggle under— Is it lead or gold? It's an invitation to look at the weight we carry with different eyes—to see our struggles not as proof that we're failing, but as the raw material for something deeper, stronger, and more meaningful. I brought in a line from Epictetus that has been sitting with me lately, and we explore what it means to transform our suffering instead of being crushed by it. And as a way of saying thank you, I wrote this haiku in calligraphy, framed it, and I'm giving it away. Giveaway details: Email me at poetdelayed@gmail.com with “healing alchemy” in the subject line. Carrie and Michelle talk openly about how addiction, trauma, and unhealthy relationships often go hand in hand. They share lived experiences with abusive relationships, codependency, and emotional manipulation — and how recovery became the foundation for learning self-love, boundaries, and healthy connections. From leaving toxic partners to rebuilding trust in themselves, this episode explores what healing relationships actually look like in sobriety, why community matters, and how spaces like The Phoenix helped them rediscover who they are beyond addiction. ----Across the Web----
This DAV Podcast episode "It's Medicine, Not Dope" features a profoundly honest conversation with Gigi, a U.S. Army veteran who served for over 22 years, about her struggle with complex treatment-resistant PTSD, depression, and anxiety stemming from multiple sexual assaults both in and out of uniform, and the demanding work of body identification at the Dover Port Mortuary. Gigi recounts her long journey through anger and isolation, the shame she overcame to finally seek professional help, and her life-changing experience with ketamine-assisted therapy, which she describes as creating new, healthier "train tracks" in her brain. Her message emphasizes hope and resilience, especially for veterans from underrepresented populations who are often discouraged from seeking mental health care, reinforcing that the treatment is "medicine, not dope," and encouraging others to utilize available resources like DAV and VA.

Send us a text“My foster child's biological parents are incarcerated; how can I guide them through this difficult time?” “My child's guard is up after trauma, how can I help take the walls down?” “How can I help a child transition out of Department of Juvenile Justice custody?” — When a child is in DJJ custody, they're locked up, isolated, and scared. They aren't just going through legal trouble, they're carrying trauma and shame. It takes resilience, hope, support, and love to break free of the trauma they've faced. That's why today Sophia Mills sits down with William Freeman, Founder and CEO of People of Purpose, an organization seeking to guide families as their loved ones come home from incarceration. He shares his experience going through the same thing and how he healed; as well as tips and strategies to help your child through the transition back into normality. Whether you or your child are going through this, know someone who is, or are recovering from any kind of trauma, William's powerful testimony and advice can help you on your journey. As William told us, “Sometimes it's not the trauma you expect. It's abandonment, it's silence, it's love not shown the way a child needs to feel it.”
There are some stories you wouldn't expect to see in the Bible: the story of Hagar is one of them. Here, we see what happens when trauma goes unhealed.

Nature's beauty is The result of letting go Life's beauty is too We hold on so tightly sometimes—trying to shape outcomes, control people, or force clarity when life just isn't ready to give it. But nature reminds us: the leaf releases when its season is done. In this week's episode of The Poet (delayed), I talk with my friend Sarah Daniels about the quiet strength of letting go—about learning to release what we can't control, trusting the timing of life (or God, the universe, whatever name you give it), and finding peace in that surrender. Letting go isn't easy. It's uncomfortable. It's scary. But it's also where calm begins. From panic attacks to purpose
In this friendly episode of Homeopathy 247, Mary chats with homeopath Morris Tuffery about the powerful and essential remedy, Staphysagria. Morris, joining all the way from New Zealand, analyzes how this remedy addresses deep-seated issues stemming from suppressed anger and emotional pain, often acting as a profound starting point for healing. Homeopathy's Strong Roots in New Zealand Morris begins by discussing the practice of homoeopathy in New Zealand. While its origins were grassroots—brought over by English settlers in the 1900s—it has gained professional status thanks to mentors like Bruce Barwell. It is now well-regulated under the New Zealand Homeopathic Council, with approximately 80 registered homeopaths adhering to mandatory professional development. Morris stresses that a major part of his work involves public education to increase awareness and encourage the use of homeopathy for home first aid. Understanding the "Staphysagria" Type: Anger Swallowed The core theme of Staphysagria is the profound effect of anger and humiliation that cannot be expressed. Suppressed Emotion: The remedy is indicated when a person has been subjected to abuse (sexual, physical, or emotional), bullying, or intense humiliation (like being unjustly fired). Because the person is unable to retaliate or stand up for themselves in the moment, they "swallow the anger." Volcano Under the Tablecloth: This type is famously described as a "volcano under a Laura Ashley tablecloth." They are often seen as the nicest people or "ultimate caregivers" who put others' needs first, but internally, they are seething with suppressed rage. A small provocation can sometimes cause a sudden, passionate burst of anger. Lack of Confidence: The long-term suppression of anger leads to feelings of unworthiness and a lack of confidence, leaving them vulnerable to victimization. A Remedy for Trauma and Physical Intrusion Staphysagria is also highly valuable for physical ailments that relate to the body feeling violated or irritated: Wounds and Surgery: It is a key remedy for healing lacerated and stretched tissue. This makes it ideal for recovering from surgery (which can feel like an intrusion), dental work (especially a strained or dislocated jaw), and a lacerated perineum after childbirth. Inflammation and Irritation: It is a primary remedy for recurrent styes and chalazions (inflamed eyelid nodules) and for colic in children who are fractious and angrily throw things. UTIs: Staphysagria is a major remedy for recurrent Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), particularly those related to the first experience of sexual intimacy (historically "Honeymoon cystitis"). Morris shares a powerful case where the remedy brought about an immediate return of joy and self-worth to a patient suffering from recurrent UTIs and low self-image following a rape. Understanding LM Potencies (Gradual Healing) Morris and Mary discuss the difference between various homeopathic potencies. For the public, it's important to know that professional homeopaths use methods beyond simple first aid prescribing: LM Potencies: These were the last potencies developed by Hahnemann. They are preferred for long-term chronic conditions because they produce a gradual and permanent improvement without the strong aggravations (healing crises) sometimes seen with high C-potencies. Chronic vs. Acute: While first aid often uses 30C or 200C potencies for quick action, complex, long-standing, or chronic conditions (like the effects of past abuse or chronic fatigue) benefit greatly from the sustained, gentle action of the LM scale. Raise your hand if you've scrolled social media and seen the terms “narcissist,” “gaslighting,” and “narcissistic abuse” thrown around like confetti. I know, me too. It can feel like in our rush to name toxic dynamics, we've started pointing fingers everywhere other than to ourselves— what's really going on?This week I sat down with Darren Elliott to explore the pervasive cultural conversation surrounding narcissism. What we uncovered is less about calling people "bad" and more about understanding trauma, emotional immaturity, and the powerful dance of disconnection we all participate in. If you've been wondering how to stop the cycle—in your marriage, your family, or your community—this episode is a courageous starting point.Tune in to learn: How narcissism is actually a set of defenses we use to protect ourselves from disconnection. When one person starts lying or manipulating, we're more likely to "join their dance" by reacting with similar behaviors. The cycle starts when you react to their defensiveness with your ownNarcissism is not only loud and argumentative. The calm, emotionally disconnected partner could be a narcissist too. How to not f*ck up your kids (spoiler alert: by repairing conflict). What percentage of the time you need to show up calm and nailing it in parenthood. A hidden form of emotional abuse and narcissism.

But the good news is this: God can heal what's been broken. In this message, Pastor Jason unpacks three steps toward healing from trauma:Process the pain – Acknowledge it instead of ignoring it.Press into God – Take your deepest hurts to Him in prayer.Pursue purpose – Allow God to use your pain to bring comfort to others.Through the story of the Apostle Paul and powerful passages of Scripture, you'll see that while your past may shape you, it does not have to define you. Healing and hope are found in Jesus.

The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
In this episode of the Dad Edge Podcast, Larry Hagner is joined by Oscar “Oz” Aponte—a U.S. Army veteran, StrongFirst kettlebell instructor, and founder of Iron Core—to explore what real strength means as a man, a father, and a leader. Oz brings a powerful blend of physical mastery and spiritual depth, helping men move from brute force to intentional presence. Together, they unpack how posture, breath, nervous system regulation, and movement patterns shape your long-term vitality—not just in the gym, but at the dinner table, in your marriage, and in your legacy. More than a conversation about fitness, this is a deep dive into fatherhood, grief, and building your life with intention. Whether you're a kettlebell junkie or just a dad looking to show up better, this episode will challenge you to redefine strength on every level. TIMELINE SUMMARY [0:00] - Welcome to the Dad Edge mission: changing generations [1:00] - Os' dad: love, legacy, and shaping a son through presence [4:05] - The final moments Os had with his father before he passed [6:42] - The cycle-breaking power of a father who never had one [9:58] - Combining Eastern mindfulness with Western strength [12:21] - Training for longevity vs. ego [14:45] - Redefining masculinity as balance, not burnout [19:23] - Nervous system health: “the threat bucket” metaphor [25:36] - The seasons of fitness (and why to respect them) [28:15] - How posture and gait silently break men down [30:37] - Tissues adapt to dysfunction—unless you intervene [33:33] - Why kettlebells work: simple tools, elite results [38:55] - Busy dads: how to train with limited time and space [40:37] - Core movements every man should master [44:13] - The “Simple & Sinister” training approach [47:13] - Kettlebell workshops, coaching, and learning more 5 KEY TAKEAWAYS 1. Strength Is Presence Being strong isn't just about lifting weight—it's about how grounded, aware, and calm you are with your family. 2. Your Nervous System Is Running the Show Stress, posture, sleep, and breath all impact your strength more than ego lifting ever could. Master your internal world first. 3. Movement Is Medicine Poor gait and posture don't just cause pain—they drain your energy and shorten your lifespan. Train smart, not just hard. 4. Simplicity Wins You don't need a fancy gym or complicated gear. One kettlebell and intentional reps can outperform a cluttered workout. 5. Legacy Is Built in the Small Moments Oz's story shows that being a strong father isn't about perfection. It's about showing up, being present, and choosing intentionality every day. In this special episode, recorded live at "Torchlight" last April, I reflect on the defining losses, trials, and awakenings of my life through the lens of poetry and personal story. Drawing on Nietzsche's insight that “to live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffering,” I explore how our deepest wounds can become bridges—not barriers—to human connection. This is an honest meditation on grief, growth, and the strange alchemy that happens when we turn toward our pain and find each other there. When Vesuvius Rumbled in her deep, Pompeii's Blue skies were a lie. Sometimes our gut warns us to leave, but we stay. Other times, it calls us to act, but fear keeps us frozen. And in both moments, the mind often steps in—trying to quiet what the body already knows. This week on The Poet (delayed), we explore what happens when we ignore that deep inner rumble. Why we override our intuition. Why we stay when we should go. Why we hide when we're being called to step forward. And what it might look like to finally trust the wisdom of the gut over the noise of the mind. God speaks to each of us as he makes us, then walks with us silently out of the night. These are the words we dimly hear: You, sent out beyond your recall, go to the limits of your longing. Embody me. Flare up like a flame and make big shadows I can move in. Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final. Don't let yourself lose me. Nearby is the country they call life. You will know it by its seriousness. Give me your hand. I was joined this episode by Chris and Elise Jones and Ali Talbot. We gathered in the warm, book-lined library at Chris and Elise Jones' home and just talked. We read Rainer Maria Rilke's poem Go to the Limits of Your Longing, and from there we let the conversation unfold naturally. We talked about suffering — not in a heavy, hopeless way, but in the way you talk when you know that pain and beauty are woven into the same thread. We explored what it means to surrender to life's difficulties instead of resisting them. We laughed about childhood memories, tofu meatloaf, and the glory of Saturday morning cartoons. We got real about trauma, caretaking, creating from heartbreak, and what it means to show up for each other when life breaks us open. This episode is about sitting with what's hard, about finding connection through vulnerability, and about how creativity — whether it's poetry, baking, music, or just making something out of pain — can save us in quiet, powerful ways. It's also about joy. Tangents. Belly laughs. Tears. Root beer ice cream sandwiches. Give it a listen. It's not polished, but it's real. And sometimes that's exactly what we need most. I'd love to hear what you have to say about the episode including thoughts on the poetry and the topics that were discussed. You can email me at poetdelayed@gmail.com.
