In this deeply personal and eye-opening episode, Majeed Mogharreban sits down with Hyatt Saikin, a master Rolfer and structural integration expert based in Ottawa, Canada. After battling debilitating sciatic pain and trying everything from massage therapy to chiropractic and acupuncture—with no relief—Majeed shares how just three sessions of Rolfing® with Hyatt got him standing straight and living nearly pain-free. Together, they explore the power of fascia, the importance of postural alignment, and how Rolfing® can help the body move with ease, grace, and freedom from pain. Hyatt brings his decades of experience and a compassionate approach to healing, helping people get out of pain and back into their lives. Key Takeaways ✅ What Is Rolfing®? – A hands-on therapy focused on reorganizing the connective tissue (fascia) to restore balance and ease in the body. ✅ Fascia: The Missing Link in Pain Relief – This network of tissue surrounds every muscle and organ, and when it's restricted, it can cause widespread pain and dysfunction. ✅ Why Your Pain Might Not Be “Muscular” or “Skeletal” – Discover how fascial adhesion could be the real culprit—and why traditional massage and chiropractic care often miss the mark. ✅ Release, Don't Force – Rolfing helps guide the body back into alignment through trained, precise, and often gentle touch that releases and rehydrates fascia. ✅ Gravity Is Your Friend—If You Know How to Stand – Hyatt explains how posture affects pain, mobility, and energy, and how to let gravity flow through you instead of work against you. Today, I'm very excited to share this talk with Jörg Ahrend-Löns. Jorg is a certified Rolfer with over three decades of experience, having trained under esteemed practitioners such as Peter Melchior and Robert Schleip. He earned his certification in 1991 under Bill Smythe and Pedro Prado and completed his Advanced Training in 2002 with Jan Sultan and Michael Salveson. With a professional background in physiotherapy since 1982, Jorg brings a deep understanding of movement and structural integration to his work. From 2012 to 2023, he served as a faculty member at DIRI Europe before stepping into his current role as international representative and secretary on the DIRI Board. The week before this call, Jörg and I had a call, which unfortunately at the end I realized that it had not been recorded I was definitely bummed to have not recorded it, as it was such a great call, and I was really looking forward to sharing that call out to the public. However, that call is now lost to time. What you hear today is our second call, which was equally great or even better. You will hear us talking about our previous call as a reference point and also as a fulcrum for growth in quite a few dimension. I was just so very grateful for Jörg's time and wisdom today and I am really excited to share this talk as there are so many wonderful nuggets of wisdom here which can really create a space for deeper embodied being. In today's talk, Jörg and I dove into the art of presence, resonance, and adaptability in client interactions. We explored how staying attuned to our surroundings—and even knowing when to forget—allows for a more fluid, effective response to the moment. We also unpacked structural integration, not just as a bodywork practice, but as a framework for understanding how physical structure, movement, and perception intertwine. When these elements align, they create space to acknowledge and work with deeper emotions like fear and worry, rather than bypassing them. Our conversation wrapped up with a reflection on the value of collegial dialogue in professional growth—and an exciting possibility of collaborating on an article. Ever wondered how understanding your body can unlock your health potential? In an enlightening conversation with martial artist and former classmate Tom Richards, we explore the fascinating world of fascia, the connective tissue in our bodies. Tom shares his personal experience with Rolfing, manual therapy, his holistic approach to bodywork, and how this technique allowed him to overcome a hip injury. We delve into the role of fascia in maintaining our health, discussing myofascia and its contribution to the fascia continuum. Tom enlightens us about the strain patterns that can distort our fascia, likening it to a wetsuit that doesn't quite fit.The journey continues as we venture into the realm of proprioception and the profound role of breath in our wellbeing. Tom draws on centuries-old Eastern wisdom on breath and its validation through modern science. We assess the transformative potential of breath as a point of leverage in changing our state of being. From there, we examine how an overdeveloped neck can limit your breath and how understanding back breathing can help mitigate tension in the upper back. Our discussion also addresses how to appropriately confront shoulder impingement and maintain pelvic mobility. We conclude our enlightening conversation by revisiting the concept of Rolfing, while also considering other holistic approaches to health and fitness. Tom elucidates how these techniques can address chronic injuries and advance overall health and wellbeing. At the end of the episode, Barton discusses how with his coaching program, he emphasizes the value of integrating blood work, VO2 max testing, and DEXA scans for a comprehensive approach to anti-aging and strength enhancement. Today's conversation is with Hiroyoshi Tahata. Hiro has worked as a Rolfer since 1998. He joined the Rolf Movement faculty of the Rolf Institute® in 2009. He brings to this work a depth of creativity and understanding that integrates the principles of structure and function through a gentle and non-invasive approach to transformation. His background in biochemistry clearly bridges the inquiry between science and art. From his experience with doctors, Hiro understood that it is possible to heal a living organism with very little stimulation. The essence of the Art of Yield came out of his collaboration with his mentor, Carol Agneessens. With the support of his mentor and much clinical research with clients, Hiro found a way to incorporate the Art of Yield into the 10 series of Rolfing. In collaboration with Yojiro Katayama, the originator of Migama Seitai, Hiro continues to explore the art of incorporating the Japanese concept of 'ma'. His latest work, uses 'ma' to promote a profound experience and physical geometric balance ; to find out more and see before and after photos from the work, visit https://yielding.work/ Hiro provides Rolf Movement® certification program and continues to study/teach Spatial Somatics and the Art of Yield with his colleagues internationally. In today's conversation we spoke about Hiro's path to today, what yield is to Hiro (and me), safety and spatial awareness, I share a story of my experience of receiving Hiro's work, and a moment of closure in Hiro's mother tongue and the difference of embodied speech. This was a very enjoyable conversation to me as we were navigating language differences, language processing time relations and cultural relations towards speaking. I had to be in a different relation to how I spoke and listened with Hiro, and this was really a gift for me in a reminder of how to be in space with someone. Thank you for that Hiro! Because of the importance of space here I purposely left more of the space between speakers in than I usually do when I edit as it felt very important to me to also get a sense of Hiro and his approach. This episode will have a different tempo than others and we hope that this brings another type of experience for you as well. Today's conversation is with Kevin McCarthy. Kevin is a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, Advanced Rolfer™ and Rolf Movement Practitioner™ specializing in the effects of trauma and chronic pain on the body. Fascinated with the interplay in the body between emotional patterns and physiological adaptations that commonly emerge in response to traumatic events, Kevin was led to study Somatic Experiencing after 10 years as a manual and movement therapist. He views the integration of somatic approaches into the wider field of trauma work as a crucial and necessary element in the healing process of those suffering from the effects of trauma. In 2017 Kevin co-founded Mend Therapy, a thriving private practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota with his wife Carrie Miller, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specifically to address this relationship between somatic and psychotherapeutic approaches to trauma. Mend Therapy offers an integrated model of care alongside a commitment to compassion and hope for all those who have been affected by trauma. He regularly consults with and educates health providers, manual therapists and psychotherapists on the importance and role of somatic intervention in the effective management of trauma. In today's conversation we spoke about Kevin's experience as a Rolfer and Somatic Experience Practitioner, what we may be doing as Rolfers (and/or other bodywork modalities) outside of normative models of touch and manual manipulations, social media on the bodily experience, working with trauma, enhancing agency in clients, reframing, and much more. Since the initial spontaneous discovery in 1973 Sharon has been exploring the curious phenomenon of Bone Change. These techniques are designed to address shape and contour. Bone Change employs precisely placed manual pressure into the fascial elements of the bone. The chronic distortions left over from badly healed breaks in the bone, or scars in the bone, transform towards normal in moments. Results appear to be permanent. Bone Work

It's a representation of our self-image, our self-worth, our self-esteemIt is not static but based on a triad of experiences: balance, alignment, and motion Why care about your posture? (it's more than just looking good!)PhysicalAn epidemic of forward head position/protraction in the shoulders; the body is so intelligent that it supports our activity, or inactivity. A stooped concave type of position leads to your body laying down layers of connective tissue that will keep you in that shape. Forward head position puts pressure on the thoracic cavity, impeding pulmonary function, your breathing ability, and also it's having a diminished effect on your cardiovascular system. Could lead to heart disease and COPD. FatiguePsychologicalIf your body is expressed in tension, torsion, and compression you're in a collapsed state and playing small. You cannot be in FLOW. A body that has length, breadth, and depth has space in it. Most bodies have run out of space. CognitivePoor posture impedes the flow of the oxygenated blood coming up into the brainstem leading to mind fog. Integrating Scar Tissue is Sharon's original discovery and one that she is continually developing and expanding on. There are 19 separate techniques used to integrate different qualities of scar tissue into the fascial web. Most will be demonstrated in class. They are simple to learn and easy to do. Working with scars is like speaking a different language in the world of connective tissue. Scar tissue is a very dense fascia with unique properties. Scar tissue work uses a casual, light touch - a little reminiscent of working with bread dough. The work is rarely painful - even for very new scars, and the amount of change in one intervention is extensive. The cosmetic effect is delightful and the functional changes can be profound. Natural and surgical scars of any age respond immediately followed by a short period of rapid healing and continued improvement. The improvements are permanent. Scar tissue quality changes quickly and easily. Lumps, gaps, ridges, holes, bumps, knots, and strings in the tissue rapidly smooth out into a three-dimensional fascial web. The work starts with the surface layers then goes into the far reaches of the scar, including work with any involved viscera. Scar work often results in large whole-body integration shifts along with trauma resolution, and nerve-impaired numbness usually resolves within a session. www.wheelerfascialwork.com
Intuition is a gift all of us have at birth; some develop it through life, others shut it completely. As kids, we are taught to silence intuition's voice with logical thinking, and the stereotypes around intuition complete the job. That is how our intuitive thinking potential is buried and forgotten. We grow and reinforce the accepted teachings, like a plant that was never rotated, rising towards the sunlight. Today, I chat with Elizabeth Vanderliet; she is a painter and an intuitive artist. Elizabeth has a Bachelor in Science in Design and Photography and worked as a photographer for over eight years. She is also a certified Rolfer and a medium. A few years ago, she reconnected with her intuitive thinking, and since then, she performs intuitive readings and produces intuitive artwork based on those readings. In this episode, we discuss the responsibilities attached to intuition, her painting, and the connection between her art and her intuition gift. She also talked about the leap of faith on starting doing intuitive readings and the validation process to ensure her readings were accurate. We talked about the relevance of being expansive and tagging our work as either priceless or worthless. Tune in to Episode 10 of Bravefull to hear more! Some Questions I Ask:Tell me about what it means to be intuitive (2:08)What are you doing to nurture your gift of intuition? Ep 26: The practice of yoga is a deeply personal one, resonating differently for us all. Kelly Jean Moore credits her own discovery of yoga to not only saving her life, but helping her to truly live and escape the self destructive path she was on. Kelly Jean experienced a lot of trauma as a child and subsequently had some turbulent years as a teenager and young adult. However, in her early twenties her inner voice began speaking to her and loudly. She knew deep within that the path she was on wasn't serving her in any way. She attended her first yoga class soon after and was immediately hooked. In just a few short months she was teaching! It was the study of Rolfing however that really transformed her yoga practice and the understanding of the body. Of course she and I get into her origin story, yoga, different types of yoga practice, and Rolfing along with biohacking the system, the ritual of grounding, finding beauty in the mundane daily activities, and the psychology and communication of movement. We also chat about body image, yoga bodies, putting ourselves out there in the world, and above all being true to ourselves and speaking our truth. Kelly Jean is a yoga teacher in Charleston, SC and has been for almost 16 years. She's also a certified Rolfer for 7 years, lover of the arts, mama, and owner of Mission Yoga in Charleston, SC. www.therefinedhippie.com IG: @therefinedhippie www.wearemissionyoga.com Kelly Jean's Personal IG:@kellyjeanlovesyou Mission Yoga IG: @wearemissionyoga tipalink.com
