We've got local comic Sean Harper in on this remote podcast (they're all remote, due to plague). Matt Carter debunks James Cameron's Titanic theories, David attempts to escape Tarkov, we're talking about how Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Bill Cosby are on equal footing, Stephen rambles on and on about the economy, rich kids skip school differently, David and Sean debate the finer points of the Tesla truck, and we all learn a little better how to do taxes.
Today we have Claire on the podcast and we get serious with a good old southern comedy from 1986. We also discuss Disney+, have a little science cornern and James Cameron's Titanic. “Designing Women” episodes watched for this F&L: *S1E1 - Designing Women *S7E21&22 - Gone with a Whim: Parts 1 & 2 Make show suggestions or tell us how your house is decorated. Michael Bay may be commonly known for producing borderline unwatchable Transformers movies but did you know in 2001 he directed a borderline unwatchable Pearl Harbor film with Ben Affleck? So in preparation for Roland Emmerich's Midway we revisit and review Pearl Harbor in all its glory. The action scenes, the love triangles, the golden skin and the way it's trying very hard to be James Cameron's Titanic. Join us we discuss the impact that it had on... well, just about everyone in the world in those long lost days of 1997. And we promise not to spoil the ending.
It's our two year anniversary, and to celebrate, we're discussing a three + hour movie! In this episode, Kat and Jocelyn revisit James Cameron's Titanic, talking about how Titanic girls were the "horse girls" of 1997, ridiculous framing devices, and whatever happened to the owner of that car. In the late 80's, Pierce Brosnan was approached to assume the mantle of legendary British movie spy James Bond from Roger Moore. But his contract with NBC and the TV show Remington Steele prohibited him from doing so. When the part came available again in 1994, Brosnan was Eon Productions' and producer Albert Broccoli's first choice. His run would be four films over seven years and Tomorrow Never Dies, his second film, would hold it's own against James Cameron's Titanic to become the second highest grossing film of the 1997 holiday season. Dan and Vicky almost didn't get to cover their first official James Bond movie -- listen for the long and twisted journey to finding a Tomorrow Never Dies DVD! On the recently watched front, they talk about films The Endless, A Quiet Place, Icarus, Molly's Game, Justice League, and Mrs. Miniver among others and TV shows Killing Eve and CBS' Elton John Tribute. In this 12th episode of Worst Scene, co-hosts George Sukara and Richard Something go on a voyage of discovery to find the worst scene in James Cameron's Titanic vs the best scene in Titanic.
20 years ago today a little movie about a big boat premiered in theaters around the world. Said theaters have been in pain ever since due to the insane foot and rear-end traffic that persisted for next 5 months as the film went on to gross over 2 billion dollars worldwide and basically bow-checked the modern blockbuster paradigm into the the 21st century. James Cameron's TITANIC was the recipient of 11 Oscars including best picture and currently holds the #83 position on the AFI's top 100 American films of all time list. 6 Months ago we invited TITANIC superfan Laura Crow to join us for our AFI / TITANIC dis-cush and the conversation went so well that we decided to post an encore presentation of that podcast today in honor of Kate, Leo, and James's 20th anniversary celebration.
It's our one-year anniversary! And, as promised, we're celebrating this milestone by tearing apart one of the most overrated movies of all time: James Cameron's "Titanic." Now, we're covering the first half of this 3-hour epic in this episode, and we'll tackle the second half of the movie next week, so buckle up. You all know the story: two star-crossed lovers overcome their socioeconomic differences only to then experience one of the worst maritime disasters of the 20th century. This cheeseball mess somehow won 11 Oscars and not 11 Razzies. Go figure. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jack Dawson, a penniless orphan vagabond who enjoys gambling, drawing nudie pics and ridiculing one-legged prostitutes. Kate Winslet plays Rose DeWitt Bukater, a suicidal Philadelphia socialite who believes that being an unhappy rich girl is equivalent to being a slave. Billy Zane plays Caledon Nathan Hockley, a violent and possessive rich guy with no taste in art who travels with a homicidal sidekick. Bill Paxton plays Brock Lovett, an earring-clad deep sea explorer who gleefully scours the remains of a horrible catastrophe looking for treasure. Join us as we celebrate Film Snuff's one-year anniversary in style as we explore important topics, like whether or not Kathy Bates has a Mr. Skin profile and if the Italian stereotype character in this grew up to be a Mario Brother (he does get smashed by a giant pipe later in the movie). This week's packed show sees Mike back from his travels and returning to the co-host chair, and an interview with Grammy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated composer and producer Simon Franglen. Although you might not know his name, you have most definitely heard his music and seen his films. Simon Franglen's credits include 4 of the top grossing films of all time and 6 of the top selling albums of all time! Over the years, Simon has worked with artists across the board including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Celine Dion, Boyzone, Gary Barlow, and even a number of London grime bands. Since moving into film scoring, he's become known for his handling of complex, demanding projects, in particular those that involve orchestra and electronica. Working closely with James Horner, he won a Grammy for his work on Celine Dion's smash hit single My Heart Will Go On from James Cameron's Titanic, and received Golden Globe, Grammy Award and World Soundtrack Award nominations for work on Cameron's Avatar. I can't believe I recorded the whole thing....It's the tenth episode of Unquote! It has been such a fun journey so far and as Season 1 gets buckled up, I buckle down with my friend Kyle and we talk sinking ships and French girl lips. #100 on AFI's list is James Cameron's "Titanic", an epic tale about stern-crossed lovers and a huge lesson in sharing (Rose, we're talking to you and your floating headboard). This episode Kyle and I discuss why this quote was probably the cheesy reason Leo hasn't won an Oscar until now, parallel love story universes, and why Sierra Nevada beer can carry anyone through a 3 hour movie. See you in a few weeks with Season 2 of Unquote!
