A film that begins with a meet-cringe and ends with mis-apportioned blame. Leap Year Year: 2010 Written by: Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont Directed by: Anand Tucker Stars: Amy Adams, Matthew Goode Show notes: Happy 5th anniversary to us!!! In this year that is not a leap year please allow us to propose a film about proposals that also did not come out in a leap year. If you would like to skip the plot summary for this month's film you can spool forward about 13 minutes into the episode. In this episode we mention the films: Saving Face* (2004) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384504/) Holidate* (2020) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9866072/) Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109831/) Overboard (1987) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093693/) Plus One* (2019) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7645122/) *Films marked with an asterisk have previously been featured on the podcast. According to the article about it on Wikipedia, the leap year proposal tradition referenced in this film "is an Irish tradition by which women are allowed to propose to men on Leap Day, 29 February, based on a legend of Saint Bridget and Saint Patrick. It once had legal basis in Scotland and England." The Wikipedia article (accessed February 2026) is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bachelor%27s_Day_(tradition) If you would like to suggest films for future episodes, you can tweet Lisa: @LisaStowaway. We record these episodes over the internet. Sometimes the audio is not perfect. We apologise for that. Music in this episode is by Martin Zaltz Austwick (martinzalzaustwick.com). Artwork is by Lisa Findley. Thank you for listening!
Time for another Rom Com I Fell For with Bubble Pro, Carla from Ok, Real Quick! And we revisit a classic romantic comedy with a problematic premise that we just don't care about because it stars two hot people in their peak hotness. Today we're making splash with the film, Overboard. Thanks for listening and Keep Streaming! Content warnings for gaslighting, manipulation, kidnapping? I open the show pondering why our default setting is "sloth" instead of "activity," and how/why nature abandoned us on this one. I go into great detail explaining how this new Bruce Springsteen "Streets Of Minneapolis" song is the worst collection of a human voice and instruments together ever recorded in human history. I feel bad for the fat lady from Overboard., 40 years later. I put a bow on my thoughts on "Send Help," the new Sam Raimi movie. (Go fucking see it) I did my first off-brand open mic set in many months, and have thoughts about it. And then I met with Dr. Eric Rocha and the nefarious Virzi Triplets to go see Jim Norton at the Comedy Store, one of our favorite comedians.
The 8am hour of Wednesday's Mac & Cube kept on with Andy Kennedy, UAB men's basketball coach, telling us how big the rivalry is between UAB and Memphis, what the team needs to do to defeat the Tigers, and what constant evolution he's always having to keep an eye on; then, Greg & Cole get enamored by the winner of the Westminster Kennel Club dog show; later, the guys throw out random players and have fun figuring out who's better; and finally, Cole tries get Greg mad by showing him the inflated costs of travel ball. He began making parser-based text adventures and releasing them free on the internet. After studying mathematics at Cambridge University, he moved into professional game development at Sony PlayStation, where he worked as a designer in the concept group on several unreleased titles. In 2011, he co-founded the independent studio Inkle, where he has been a driving force behind a body of critically acclaimed narrative games, including 80 Days, Heaven's Vault, Overboard!, and A Highland Song. Alongside his studio work, he co-created the open-source scripting language Ink, now used widely across the games industry to build reactive, branching narratives. His latest project, TR-49, is a haunting narrative deduction game built around a mysterious wartime machine, and the urgent act of making meaning from archives before time runs out. Who jumps off a cruise ship on PURPOSE? Performing comedy on a cruise ship is not my favorite thing. One of my earlier episodes is a scary story about being stranded in a foreign country before cell phones were super popular. This story has more to do with the good and bad reasons for performing on cruise ships, along with a quick story about the ship thinking I was gone. I'll always remember this as the episode I watched during a flight to Bravocon as I nearly lost my mind mid-air when Bronwyn and Whitney had a ground-breaking discussion about Todd's infidelity and their views on open relationships. Even with that massive topic, the main focus is Meredith's airport meltdown. Her cast members each describe unbridled rage and outbursts at Brittani on their flight back to Utah that focused on the TikTok video that alleges Seth was seen with a mistress in Ohio. Yet, both Meredith and Lisa resist hearing harsh feedback from the ladies and insist things were different, and without any footage it's everyone's word and memory against theirs. All opinions are personal and not representative of any outside company, person, or agenda. Overboard and Overwhelmed by Grace (Jonah 1:1-17) - Morning SermonPastor Mitchell Leach
Everything was big in the 80s. The hair. The fashion. The movies. That included a slew of romantic comedies with modest budgets, but which became box-office smashes thanks to their novel concepts, sparkling scripts, and charismatic leads. In what other decade could you have a film about a magic mannequin that was secretly a naive sexpot, or gruff Australian hunter who charms the pants off a big-city reporter? Only the 80s, baby! So crack open a Bartles & James, warm up your crimper, and plate your McDLT, because the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to make love, not war, as we attempt to name the Best Romantic Comedy Film of the 1980s. Films discussed: When Harry Met Sally, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Mannequin, Big, Moonstruck, Hairspray, Overboard, Sixteen Candles, Coming to America, Arthur, Roxanne, Pretty in Pink, Look Who's Talking, Crocodile Dundee, Splash, Romancing the Stone Join host Eric Rezsnyak, GPCD panelists Jonny Minogue and Kevin Dillon, and special guests Maggie Hartman and Anna as they discuss and debate 16 of the most swoon-worthy films of the 1980s. Frustration abound at Hill Dickinson Stadium - but still plenty of positives for Everton to take from the 0-0 draw at Aston Villa. The Blues were the better side but couldn't get over the line against Unai Emery's side. Is it purely an issue with the centre-forwards? Or, as one report claimed, has the 'hype' around Everton been too much? We also look at David Moyes' lack of changes. Is there anything down for the likes of Dwight McNeil anymore? Hour –1 (9.9.2025) Port of Long Beach Incident: More than 50 shipping containers tumbled off a cargo ship into the water. A longshoreman named Rake shared inside perspective on what might be in those containers and the challenges of recovery. Port Work Culture: Petros explained how someone gets their “casual card” to work the ports and the unique hierarchy among longshoremen. Convention Center Trouble: Michael Monks opened up about getting kicked out of Catholic school for misbehavior, then the focus shifted to the L.A. Convention Center expansion — costs have ballooned, and the digital advertising revenue plan has been scrapped. Show & City Bits: The crew debated swapping the show's trademark “Ding Dong” for a new catchphrase: “Yeah, sure, ok, alright.” They also mocked the fuss about moving the LAX sign, calling it “not Vegas” and “who cares?”

Did Amy Bradley Fall Overboard… Or Was She Rescued By the Wrong Person? What happened between 5:15 and 6:00 AM the day Amy Lynn Bradley disappeared? In this gripping episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, Tony and Carol Hughes walk through the contradictions and eerie silences in the Amy Bradley case timeline. If you've ever asked how someone vanishes from a cruise ship cabin without waking a single soul—this is the episode for you. Amy was last seen sleeping on a balcony chair at 5:15 AM. By 6:00, she was gone. No one heard her leave. No one saw her. Only her cigarettes and lighter were missing. The rest—ID, flip-flops, key card—were untouched. Could she have fallen and survived, only to be picked up by someone with the worst intentions? Was she lured into a crew corridor, thinking it was part of an early-morning adventure? Or was she already in the grip of something far more dangerous? Carol raises tough questions about inconsistencies in "Yellow" Douglas's timeline, while Tony unpacks how security protocols in 1998 were lax enough to allow someone to slip off the ship without setting off alarms. Together, they explore the haunting possibility that Amy could have been injured—or helped—by someone who didn't have her best interests in mind. Plus, they dig into how cruise ships handled missing persons back then versus today, whether Royal Caribbean dropped the ball, and how even minor protocol changes could've changed everything. This episode pulls no punches and asks the questions no one else wants to. Listen, subscribe, and join the conversation. Leave your theory in the comments.
