We're celebrating 100 episodes this week by returning to not one but two recurring themes from nearly two years of the podcast: the filmography of Steve Martin and the belief that February belongs to romance -- two concepts that combine decently well with some magical realism in our movie of the week, an absurdist take on life and love in Los Angeles that still feels like a cutting send-up of the city more than 30 years later. It's 1991's L.A. Story, directed by Mick Jackson, written by Steve Martin, and starring Martin, Victoria Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Marilu Henner, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kevin Pollak, Patrick Stewart, Frances Fisher, Iman, Larry Miller, Woody Harrelson, Rick Moranis and John Lithgow. So tonally cartoonish that it feels Martin is moments away from being crushed by a grand piano and popping out the top of it unscathed at any moment, that silliness conceals an earnest goodness about love, the universe, and everything finding a way to work out as it should. Are these beliefs that go hand-in-hand with the movie's wacky exterior, or does the film find itself at odds with itself? Find out, as we dive into a movie Hayley recently picked up on VHS. Plus: J Mo's still sore from having climbed into the wrestling ring over the weekend! If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our discussion, L.A. Story is currently streaming for free on the CTV app in Canada at the time of publication. Other works discussed in this episode include the video games Mario & Luigi: Brothership and Balatro, as well as TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, Only The Brave, 24, The Departed, The Nice Guys, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Jurassic Park, the JJ Abrams Star Trek trilogy, the Disney Star Wars sequel trilogy, A Goofy Movie, Bowfinger, The Lonely Guy, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Cheaper By The Dozen, The Tooth Fairy and They Came Together. Feb2ary Is For Lovers continues next week as we run it back for another 100 episodes beginning with Nicolas Cage and Cher in 1987's Moonstruck, which may be the most readily available film we've ever covered as it's currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Crave, Starz, Criterion Channel, Tubi and Hoopla as we release this. Thank you so much for listening for 100 episodes, or however long you've been on the ride. We love you, and see you at the movies!!
This week, we're saddling up and getting back to our old ways, shootin' some fellas who may or may not deserve it, but deserves ain't got nothin' to do with it either way. It's 1992's Unforgiven, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris, Jaimz Woolvett, Saul Rubinek, Frances Fisher, Anna Thomson and a blink-and-you'll-miss-him Lachlyn Munro. A revisionist western primarily concerned with upending the myth of the great American frontier that its director and star built his career off of, it is a dark, bleak and dreadful film that took home Oscar gold for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor (Hackman) -- just the third time in the Awards' history that a Western had taken the top prize. Plus: we're both deep in our respective music bags this week, hyperfixating on tunes from Willow Avalon and Bruce Cockburn. If you'd like to watch the film before listening along to our conversation, Unforgiven is currently streaming in Canada on and in the United States on Max at the time of publication. You can also find the show now on both BlueSky and Instagram, @adhddvdpod. Other works discussed on this week's episode include The X-Files, The Idea of You, Tenet, Canadian Bacon, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, Superbad, Oppenheimer, Mission: Impossible 2, GoldenEye, Mission: Impossible 3, Alias, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, The Incredibles, Tomorrowland, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, Rye Lane, Baby Driver, Jaws, The Fabelmans, No Country For Old Men, Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, Juror #2, Heat, Tombstone and High Plains Drifter. We'll be back next week to wrap up the month by roping a few of our January features' top stars as George Clooney and Bernie Mac unite next week for 2001's Ocean's Eleven, directed by Steven Soderbergh -- one of the most rewatchable films ever made, as we can't wait to revisit it yet again as it gets welcomed into the ADHD-DVD podcast canon. Ocean's 11 is now streaming on Starz at the time this episode was released. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
When Moses parted the Red Sea, it was considered to be an obviously miracle. The ocean and the tides have always been part of sea faring life and have had legends and myths follow them throughout history. A king's tide is those tides that occur at points throughout the year where they are their highest as the moon, sun, and gravity play a part. The new Canadian film THE KING TIDE popped up on VOD recently to some fairly good reviews. But its title is more a metaphor than part of the interesting plot.Bobby (Clayne Crawford) is the mayor of the only town on an island off the Atlantic Canadian coast. A small dingy appears by the shore with a young baby in it. He and his wife, having just lost a pregnancy, adopt the girl. When she grows up, she begins to show miraculous powers of healing and fortune. Though Bobby tries to hide this from the community, his mother-in-law thinks otherwise leading to great change upon them all.The movie is directed by Christian Sparkes from a script from four writers. Besides Clayne Crawford, other stars include Frances Fisher and Lara Jean Chorostecki. The film was originally did the festival circuit in 2023 before a full release in 2024. With very good reviews, the movie had a short lived window of note. Your co-hosts take a look at it and give their thoughts.

Folks... sometimes (but not often) Clint Eastwood tried his hand at comedy and this is indeed one of them. The guys discuss Clint teaming with Bernadette Peters to fight white supremacists (!) in the light(?)-hearted comedy, Pink Cadillac. There is much to behold here from Clint's goofy character work, the delightful Bernadette Peters being good at everything, the whole thing working better as a sitcom (don't steal our idea, TM TM) than a 2-hour PLUS movie, the Jim Carrey cameo and much more. What shall we talk about this week? Probably not really about this comic book. How about we talk about a specific organ that is explicitly talked about in this issue? Yes, I am talking about hair.....wait....no....that is not right......I am talking about the heart. But what heart are we talking about? First of all, I will go ahead and give all credit to Wikipedia for what you are about to read. I am not that original. And I really do not want to be that creative. I think this is just more fun. Heart is an American rock band formed in 1973 in Seattle, Washington. The band evolved from previous projects led by founding members Roger Fisher (guitar) and Steve Fossen (bass guitar), including The Army (1967–1969), Hocus Pocus (1969–1970), and White Heart (1970–1973). Heart is a framework developed by Google to help the products and development teams to make decisions that serve business and user-centered. Heart is a framework for mobile design and metrics. It is an acronym that stands for happiness, engagement, adoption, retention and task success. Included by Gartner as a design approach that accommodates mobile interface issues such as partial user attention and interruption. Heart is a 1987 American sports drama film directed by James Lemmo (in his directorial debut), from a screenplay by Lemmo and Randy Jurgensen, who also produced the film. It stars Brad Davis, Jesse Doran, Steve Buscemi, Frank Adu, Sam Gray, Billy Costello, and Frances Fisher. A punch-drunk boxer is set up as an easy win for an up-and-coming young boxer in this melodrama. The highlight of the film is the performance of Steve Buscemi as the oily, mob-connected fight promoter Nicky. Eddie (Brad Davis) is the addle-brained boxer Nicky hangs out to dry for quick money. Heart of Midlothian Football Club, commonly known as Hearts, is a professional football club in Edinburgh, Scotland. The team competes in the Scottish Premiership, the top division of Scottish football. Hearts, the oldest and most successful football club in the Scottish capital, was formed in 1874, its name influenced by Walter Scott's novel The Heart of Midlothian. The club crest is based on the Heart of Midlothian mosaic on the city's Royal Mile; the team's colors are maroon and white. The Heart Nebula (also known as the Running dog nebula, IC 1805, Sharpless 2-190) is an emission nebula, 7500 light years away from Earth and located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. It was discovered by William Herschel on 3 November 1787. It displays glowing ionized hydrogen gas and darker dust lanes. "Heart" is a song by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys from their second studio album, Actually (1987). It was released as the album's fourth and final single on 21 March 1988 by Parlophone. The song topped the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in April 1988, becoming the duo's fourth and final chart-topper to date in the United Kingdom. Its music video was directed by Jack Bond and filmed in Yugoslavia. The group had initially written the song for Madonna, though they never asked her to record it, instead keeping it for themselves. Heart Peaks, originally known as the Heart Mountains, is a mountain massif in the Northern Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It is 90 km (56 mi) northwest of the small community of Telegraph Creek and just southwest of Callison Ranch. With a maximum elevation of 2,012 m (6,601 ft), it rises above the surrounding landscape on the Nahlin Plateau, which is part of the western Stikine Plateau. Heart Peaks has been an area of prospecting since the 1980s with the discovery of precious metals. The Heart is a 2014 realistic and medical fiction novel by the French author Maylis de Kerangal. It chronicles the events immediately following the death of 19-year-old Simon Limbres in a car accident. In particular, The Heart focuses on the transplantation of Simon's heart and how it affects those involved in the process, including Simon's parents, the physicians, the nurses, the organ transplant coordinators, the recipient, and the recipient's family, over the course of twenty-four hours. It was five months ago that SAG/AFTRA had just gone out on strike, joining the WGA writers on picket lines, when I invited my old friend David Jolliffe [http://twitter.com/TheDaveJolliffe] on the show to talk about what they were striking over. Dave is on the SAG/AFTRA Negotiating Committee and the National Board, and serves as 2nd VP of the Los Angeles local. Not only did he join me that day, but brought along two of his show biz royalty friends, actors Frances Fisher [http://twitter.com/frances_fisher] and Sean Astin [http://twitter.com/seanastin]. I think all three of them will join us again today to tell us about the deal they got, and how strikes work! They'll join in at the bottom of the hour. After nearly five months, Hollywood writers have ended their strike, which brought the American film and TV industry to a halt. The Writers Guild of America said in a statement that union leaders ‘voted unanimously' in favour of a deal - which some writers have called ‘exceptional'. It'll now be voted on by union members. Some of the main sticking points included payments for reruns (known as residuals), and AI. The BBC's Vivienne Nunis talks us through the detail. But the actors' strike continues. The BBC's Regan Morris is at the picket line in Los Angeles where she's been speaking to actors, including stunt performer Max Calder and Frances Fisher from the film Titanic. Randy Roberts talks about his new show “Aging Dis-Gracefully” with Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™. “Aging Dis-Gracefully” is currently at the Post Office Cafe and Cabaret now through August 29th in Provincetown, MA. We caught his fabulous new show last week and were thoroughly entertained with his theme of divas who refuse to grow old gracefully including impeccable performances from Cher, Bette Midler and more. However what makes Roberts show so outstanding is how he brings his own voice to the party. This is not a lip sync show but a Virtuoso performing in drag. Then when he concluded his show performing “The Music of the Night” from The Phantom of the Opera in his own persona we were blown away especially thinking about the controversy all drag artists are facing in this country with the politicizing of their performances. In Key West, Florida where Randy has performed at the La Te Da Cabaret for 25 years they no longer allow anyone under 18 years old to attend even though Randy's show is totally appropriate for all ages. In “Aging Dis-Gracefully” he does address Florida being ground zero with the current culture wars specifically drag artists under attack. Yet Roberts manages to address the issue flawlessly with a tribute to Governor DeSantis in a parody entitled “He's DeSantis” to the song “It's De-Lovely” and a moving rendition of the LGBTQ power anthem “Color Out of Colorado.” We talked to Randy about his inspiration for his new show “Aging Dis-Gracefully” and his spin on our LGBTQ issues. Randy Roberts is an actor, singer, director and world-renowned female impersonator entertaining audiences for over 30 years. Hailing from Norfolk, VA he started in community theater and found a niche in female impersonation. First in small bars and clubs and then touring the country in the review “Masquerade a La Cage”. During this run he caught the eye of the producers of the long running Las Vegas drag revue “Boy-Lesque” at the Sahara Hotel and Casino. Roberts was also featured on the tenth season of NBC television's “America's Got Talent” and appeared on ABC television's “One Life To Live” as “Cher”. Randy made his film debut in the award-winning indie film “Any Day Now” starring Alan Cumming, Garret Dillahunt and Frances Fisher. Randy is currently celebrating his 25th year headlining in the Crystal Room Cabaret at La Te Da in Key West, Florida and in Provincetown at the Post Office Cafe and Cabaret where he is currently performing. Upcoming performance dates include September 22nd at the Sun Festival in Rehoboth Beach, DE & September 14th, 15th and 16th at the Crazy Coqs in London, UK. It's time for labor in America to stand up for workers rights! The Writer's Guild (WGA) went out on May 2, and SAG/AFTRA voted to strike this past weekend. Most people really don't know the things they're striking about, but should. So that's our mission today, to explain and understand. To get us there, I called on David Jolliffe, an old friend who happens to be on the National Board/Executive committee as well as on the negotiating committee. (You may remember Dave as Bernie on the 70s TV show ROOM 222). He's bringing along some fellow committee members Frances Fisher and Sean Astin. We'll get out all the facts and grievances and, I promise, have some fun too.You can read the SAG-AFTRA proposals and the AMPTP counters here and read more at the official strike website at sagaftrastrike.org.
Beep beep! What's that we've got stashed in our trunk? Look at that, it's a brand new episode on Buddy Van Horn's 1989 action comedy PINK CADILLAC, and with our friend Eric Markovits, no less! Hop on in for a discussion of Bernadette Peters, a whirlwind history of white supremacist groups in the 80s, MIDNIGHT RUN (again), Ian's exciting new segment, and a return to the Pine Cone Crime Zone. Check it out! Topics include: the mostly unrelated Bruce Springsteen song of the same name, James Cromwell, Frances Fisher, French nobility, British Israelism, Neo-Nazis on film, prison abolition talk, skiptracers, bounty hunters, whether those are the same type of guy, and more! https://www.podcastyforme.com/ Follow Pod Casty For Me: https://twitter.com/podcastyforme https://www.instagram.com/podcastyforme/ https://www.youtube.com/@podcastyforme Artwork by Jeremy Allison: https://www.instagram.com/jeremyallisonart The SPLC article mentioned in this episode: https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/intelligence-report/2005/leaders-racist-prison-gang-aryan-brotherhood-face-federal-indictment
Twist up your white girl dreads (or just don't, actually) and let's ride with Nic Cage in Gone in 60 Seconds. How angry is Jerry Bruckheimer that the Fast and the Furious franchise stole his thunder? Does this movie immediately take you back to the Year 2000 (insert requisite Conan audio cue)? Was there just no room in the budget to give Angelina Jolie even like a hint of character development? And Plot? Who needs a plot? You'll get some answers if you can keep up with our need for speed.
We'll be speaking with Steve Grumbine of The Real Progressives about the Debt Ceiling and the not-so-good deal President Biden made with Speaker McCarthy. When we last left Russ and Jared, they were talking about how it's time to harvest the inside-wheat from the weird field and wildly elaborate cave system the humans were somehow able to build... You guessed it! The guys are here to finish the Stephenie Meyer-inspired film, The Host (2013), starring Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Frances Fisher, and Chandler Canterbury. Lots of laughs to be had in this less-than-thrilling conclusion as things really go off the rails!
Russ and Jared are back for this week's deep dive into The Host (2013), starring Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Frances Fisher, and Chandler Canterbury. This Stephenie Meyer novel-turned-film debacle does not disappoint when it comes to the amount of disappointments! Tune in for some excellent (if we do say so ourselves) Hollywood Pitches, Fast Facts, and the scene-by-scene breakdown you crave!
What's this?! A sneaky ITMT promo for Russ' upcoming novel, HOST? Not quite, but kinda! Look for Russ' book wherever you buy books soon (you won't miss it, we'll tell you)! And in the meantime, Russ and Jared will tell you all about this awful movie based on a Stephenie Meyer novel. It's time for The Host (2013), starring Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Frances Fisher, and Chandler Canterbury. Stay tuned for the full, scene-by-scene breakdown episodes next week!
Join Maggie and Ian as they talk through 1997's winner, Titanic. Though our hosts had mixed opinions on the first part of the movie, both agree the epic romance/disaster horror combo is worth a watch!

The Equalizer Season 3 Episode 6: Mission: McCall: Part 1 Aired on CBS: October 28, 1987 Directed by: Alan Metzger Written by : Ed Waters & Scott Shepherd Featuring: Robert Mitchum, Richard Jordan, Frances Fisher, William Zabka, Frankie Faison We knew it was coming. During the filming of season three, Edward Woodward suffered a heart attack and the show The Equalizer carried on. What we didn't know is just how they would handle it. First, they had to throw together a story fast -a KGB kidnapping with some agency scheming, check. Second, introducing a new character in the EQ universe who may carry the EQ torch in case Woodward can't continue with the show, check. Finally, some big star power (for the CBS demographic) who may not necessarily have a detectable resting heart rate. A lot of craziness, a lot of world building, quite the setup to this unexpected but necessary two parter, and our introduction to this new phase of the show. We just wish we could have sent Edward Woodward some flowers in 1987, just as his character has done more than once, awkwardly, to women in distress in the show. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com
