Willem Blackwood is a badass, but there's a lot more to him and his heroism than meets the eyes in House of the Dragon. This little guy showed up to try and marry a Targaryen princess, drew swords on a Bracken buffoon, killed that Bracken, and then walked away like the hero of legend we all know he will be. Honestly it's surprising that Rhaenyra didn't marry Willem Blackwood on the spot However I think this scene has a lot more going on than many are giving it credit for. in my last stream for about a month, we're gonna be having halloween a little bit early.  Today we're gonna be talking about maybe the strangest inclusion in all of ASOIAF: The shadow assassins/shadow babies. The affectionately known shadow babies come right out of nowhere in ASOIAF proper, the physical proof of Melisandre's power as a shadow binder. The assassinations of Renly Baratheon and Cortnay Penrose stand out as their only two known use cases. But where else might they be? Where do these shadows linger and kill where no one thinks to look? Maybe in a tent outside of Oldtown. Or in the Dragonpit itself, as The Disputed Lands  is fond of speculating about. After talking last week about the newest Kingsguard Ser Robert Strong, and the week before about the lusty Lucamore Strong, figured this week would venture back into the main books and talk the Kingsguard who lost his head and soiled his cloak like a modern Lucamore in Dorne: Ser Arys Oakheart. One of the very few single POV chapter characters that isn't a prologue or epilogue, Arys shows up in the story to only quickly exit it. And yet, there's good reasons George included the most recently casualty of the Kingsguard. Honor, duty, vows, and the unstoppable advances of Arianne Martell. And of course, the similarities between the life and death of Ser Arys Oakheart and the legend of Ser Gawain and the Green Knight. Beric Dondarrion, the Lightning Lord, is one of the most fascinating and tragic characters in all of ASOIAF and Game of Thrones. A young, handsome lord enjoying himself at tourneys turned into a scarred, broken Lord of the Brotherhood without Banners having been resurrected by Thoros of Myr over and over. The wounds that killed him still visible all over his body, and his mind slowly falling apart.
