“The Dragon in Winter” is an episode that shows how power alters people. Whether that power comes gradually like Mysaria's rise, surprisingly like Helaena's powers as a tool for Rhaenyra, or instantly like Sunfyre's return to Aegon… Whether it is unwanted like Daeron's crown or the ultimate temptation as presented to Ulf… it comes in many forms, and tends to burn all around it. Uncontrollable laughter is optional. Uncontrollable dragons are mandatory.Vote for Us in the Hugo Awards for Best Related Work - lacon.org/register/Shirts - historyofwesteros.threadless.comHoW Audience Survey - bit.ly/howsurveyBonus Eps & More - patreon.com/historyofwesteroswww.historyofwesteros.comIntro/Maps - klaradox.deFacebook Group - bit.ly/howfbDiscord - bit.ly/howdiscord

Episode 6 of Season 3 of House of the Dragon focused on key developments for the major players in the series. The latest episode brings us deeper into the chaos brewing in Westeros, especially for Queen Rhaenyra. With shifting alliances and unfolding plots, there's much to unpack in another banger of an episode. Rhaenyra's grip on King's Landing is becoming increasingly tenuous, and Daemon marches to the beat of his own drum. Meanwhile, a strengthening Aemond finds a strange ally, and perhaps something more, in Alys. In Tumbleton, Ormund and Daeron are joined by a familiar face, just in the nick of time. At the 3/4 mark of the season, Dave and PC Tunney let you know how they feel about things and where they see things going in the final two episodes.Chairshot Radio NetworkLaunched in 2017, the Chairshot Radio Network presents you with the best in sports, entertainment, and sports entertainment. Natalie & Ben are back just in time to crawl over the ashes of this white hot, content-full episode of House of the Dragon. Marvel at all the things Ben remembers that Natalie realises she forgot to include in her recap! But also, was Oscar Tully's bait actually a dumb plan? Will we miss Criston? Is Rhaenyra aware of how she's coming across? And also a fair bit of love for Gwayne and Daeron, the new power duo. Enjoy!

Daeron isn't just being raised by Ormund Hightower — he's being molded into one. On this episode of Scene N Nerd, Sarah and Will break down HOTD 3x06 ("Faceless Men") from the shocking cold open all the way through the Harrenhal seduction, and there's a lot to get through. We open with Ser Criston Cole's genuinely unceremonious death — ambushed by the "dead" river lords in a moment that plays almost like a Robb Stark callback — before digging into the episode's real gut-punch: Daeron's cousin Ormund grooming him into a puppet king while teaching him to see his own Targaryen blood as the "tainted" half of who he is. We also get his actual uncle, Gwayne, showing up as a completely different kind of family — and a much-needed reality check for both of them. Send us Fan MailThis was another good episode. And another good build up to Tumbleton. Both sides took a big loss. The greens lost Crispy and the Blacks lost the Seas Snake, but not from death. We saw the beginning of a relationship with Baela and Alyn, as well as Alys and Eyemond and possibly the end of a relationship with Hugh and his wife. Daemo  found the killer responsible for the deaths of the gold Cloaks and he embarrassed the hell out of Ulf...again. Rhaena is back in the Vale being a nuisance and Alicat and Rhaenyra are still playing cat and mouse. This episode also gave us better insight into who Daeron is, who Ormund really is, and their relationship...#houseofthedragonhbo #watchdemthrones #demdragons #demthrones #blackwithnochaser

Episode 5 of Season 3 of House of the Dragon had a whole lot going on. And, for the most part, they pulled it all off quite well. There is tension building between Daemon and Rhaenyra. Meanwhile, Aemond, with the help of Alys, is recovering his strength and confidence at Harrenhall. Ditto for Aegon, whose worldview is significantly challenged by Larys. Add in Sir Criston Cole accepting his fate, Alicent and Haelena attempting to escape, Ormund Hightower grooming Daeron to be a true challenger for the throne, and a shockingly gruesome discovery at the end of the episode, and what you have here is more classic Game of Thrones intrigue and storytelling. Nolan wrote, directed, and produced the film, which was shot around the world and became the first feature photographed entirely with IMAX film cameras. The production built much of its ancient world practically and mounted a full-scale, globe-spanning shoot designed to make Odysseus' voyage feel physical, dangerous, and appropriately enormous. The war is no longer being fought with dragons alone. Sarah and Will break down House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 5, "Unbowed and Unbent," as unrest spreads through King's Landing and every side begins using manipulation, insurgency, religion, money, and guerrilla warfare to gain an advantage. They discuss Ormund Hightower's campaign to undermine Rhaenyra, the violent attacks against the Gold Cloaks, and Daemon's growing frustration with how the city is being governed. They also examine Rhaenyra and Daemon's conflicting ideas about power, legitimacy, faith, and what it truly means to rule as a Targaryen. Elsewhere, Alicent attempts to protect Helaena and her unborn child, Mysaria finds herself caught between competing loyalties, and the damaged relationship between Aegon and Aemond reveals how deeply their childhood resentment continues to shape the war. Sarah and Will also explore Ormund's influence over Daeron, Criston Cole's brutal campaign through the Riverlands, Oscar Tully's military tactics, and how the nobles and common people of Westeros are being sacrificed for a conflict built around one family's bloodline. Then, the conversation shifts to the final season of The Bear. Sarah and Will share their thoughts on the season's one-day structure, Carmy's conclusion, Sydney and Tina's expanded roles, and why Episode 7, "Caramel," feels like a spiritual successor to the fan-favorite episode "Forks." They also discuss the series finale, the growth of Richie and the restaurant staff, the moments that worked—and one particular job interview that did not—before ranking all five seasons of the acclaimed series. Topics include: • The Gold Cloak murders and unrest in King's Landing • Ormund Hightower's strategy and support for Daeron • Rhaenyra and Daemon's battle over power and legitimacy • The role of faith, culture, and public favor in Westeros • Alicent, Helaena, Mysaria, and the unborn child • Aegon and Aemond's lifelong sibling rivalry • Criston Cole's legacy and the Riverlands guerrilla campaign • The Bear series finale and final-season reactions • Why "Caramel" continues the character growth of "Forks" • Sarah and Will's complete ranking of The Bear We discuss House of the Dragon strictly from the perspective of television viewers who have not read the source material. Rhaenyra continues to show what a proficient leader she is- SYKE- SHE'S HORRIBLE and King's Landing is in shambles while everyone else maneuvers around her politically for whatever they want. You know it's bad when Daemon is the most clear-eyed person in the room, RIP to that guy with the sheep. *sniff sniff* what's that smell? Have we talked about Ormund? Because something doesn't smell right in the twisted indoctrination going on of him looking after Daeron. Nor does something look right about Criston Cole who is on a determined death march through the woods with his best bud Ser Gwayne just following him with a “Wtf are we doing dude” look on his face for the entirety of this season so far. But hey, Dornish gonna Dorne ya know? Moving on, Mysaria is back to White Worming. Is she Dornish too? Who knows. Not me. Oh and speaking of worming, Alys Rivers has her witchy hands all over Aemond. Meanwhile, over in Tumbleton, Ormund does his best to put Daeron on the throne and everyone on Team Black looks on helpless, not realizing they have the equivalent of 6 or 7 weapons of Westerosi Destruction able to eliminate every current threat in about one business day. David and Jean return for a thematic breakdown of Tumbleton. The conversation moves through the strategic nightmare Ormond has created by garrisoning his forces inside a civilian town, the unsettling picture the show is painting of who he really is and what Daeron's life in his custody may have looked like, and Rhaenyra's continuing struggle to make sound decisions without the support structures a ruler needs around them.Contact UsQuestions or comments? George Washington Rises, Westeros Crawls, and Jubilee Steals the Damn Show This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl talk Young Washington, a good but slower week for House of the Dragon, and the absolute mutant madness of X-Men '97 Season 2. Spoiler alert: Jubilee is bad ass, and the boys are very much here for it. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Supergirl/Sony Catchup: 4:50 Young Washington: 24:31 House of the Dragon (Season 2 Episode 3): 31:46 X-Men ’97 (Season 2 Episodes 1-4): 40:49 Supergirl and Sony Follow-Up Supergirl gets a quick follow-up after last week's conversation, with the focus on whether the new DCU is starting to build real momentum or still asking fans to trust the larger plan. There are pieces that could work, but the bigger question is whether those creative choices are actually landing yet. Sony's continued move away from physical media raises bigger questions for collectors, gamers, and fans who still care about owning what they buy. As entertainment keeps shifting toward digital libraries and platform control, the concern becomes whether fans are buying permanent access or just renting permission. Young Washington Release Date: July 3, 2026 Runtime: 122 minutes Director: Jon Erwin Writers: Jon Erwin, Tom Provost, and Diederik Hoogstraten Based On: The early life and military career of George Washington during the French and Indian War Studios: Wonder Project, 2521 Entertainment, 10 Ton Productions, and Red 56 Distributor: Angel Studios Summary: Young Washington follows George Washington before he became the Father of the Nation, focusing on his early military failures, his ambition, and the frontier conflict that helped shape the man he would become. The film tracks Washington as he is pulled into the French and Indian War, forced to deal with shifting alliances, dangerous mistakes, and the brutal reality of leadership before he is truly ready for it. Main Cast: William Franklyn-Miller as Young George Washington Mary-Louise Parker as Mary Washington Kelsey Grammer as Lord Fairfax Andy Serkis Ben Kingsley Production Notes: Directed and co-written by Jon Erwin, Young Washington arrives as a historical war drama built around the making of George Washington rather than the myth of George Washington. The film leans into the mistakes, pressure, and survival instincts of a young man caught in a conflict much bigger than himself. A sequel titled 1776 is already in development, continuing Washington's story into the American Revolution. Rating, Out of 10 Pawns Really Have a Way of Taking Down a King Brian: 8/10 Darryl: DWN House of the Dragon (HBO / Max) House of the Dragon, Season 3 Episode 3 Title: Rhaenyra Triumphant Air date: July 5, 2026 Based On: Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin Created By: Ryan Condal and George R. R. Martin Summary: Rhaenyra's hold on King's Landing is already starting to look more fragile than victorious. The city is starving, the treasury is gone, and ruling from the Iron Throne is proving to be very different from claiming it. While Rhaenyra tries to stabilize her rule, Daemon pushes for harsher action, Corlys fights for the future of his family, and the supposed Daeron situation becomes another political mess inside an already broken war. The episode is good, but slower this week, spending more time on fallout, legitimacy, and court tension than dragon fire or battlefield momentum. It is very much a table-setting episode, but the pieces it moves could matter a lot as the Dance keeps getting uglier. Main Cast: Emma D'Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II Targaryen Rating out of 5, Fake Targaryens Does Not a Fun Episode Make Brian: 3.4/5 Darryl: 3.25/5 X-Men '97 (Disney+) X-Men '97, Season 2 Episodes 1-4 Air date: Season 2 premiered July 1, 2026, with new episodes releasing weekly on Disney+ Episode 4 Title: Rise of Apocalypse – Part II Based On: Marvel Comics' X-Men and X-Men: The Animated Series Developed By: Beau DeMayo Summary: X-Men '97 Season 2 picks up after the chaos of Season 1 by throwing the team into an even bigger, weirder, and more comic-book-ass corner of mutant history. With the X-Men scattered across time and Apocalypse looming large over the season, the show wastes no time going huge with the stakes, the emotion, and the deep-cut Marvel madness. Through the first four episodes, this season is already firing on all cylinders. The action is big, the character work is sharp, and the show continues to understand exactly why people love the X-Men. Jubilee, in particular, comes out looking like an absolute bad ass, bringing the kind of energy that makes this feel like peak Saturday morning cartoon nostalgia smashed together with modern serialized storytelling. Main Voice Cast: Ray Chase as Cyclops Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey Cal Dodd as Wolverine Lenore Zann as Rogue George Buza as Beast Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm A. J. LoCascio as Gambit Holly Chou as Jubilee Production Notes: X-Men '97 continues the legacy of X-Men: The Animated Series while pushing the story into darker, stranger, and more ambitious territory. Season 2 is leaning hard into time displacement, Apocalypse, mutant survival, and big emotional swings, while still keeping the colorful, fast-moving, comic-book energy that made Season 1 such a monster hit. No Fire and Blood character had a POV chapter, but HBO's Rhaenyra just did. Though she proclaims victory and aims for a brighter future, Rhaenyra is overwhelmed by problems of the moment and haunted by ghosts of the past. There's an ominous soundtrack and a familiar theme presented as a double edged sword… Like Maester Aemon told Jon Snow and his brother Egg, to become a man you must kill the boy. It's a metaphor for growing into a ruler, but for Rhaenyra it is also quite literal… and the boy is Alicent's child. Until she discovers simultaneously that he's not Daeron, and the war is not over.
