For our 200th episode we wanted to bring in a guest that rock fans would be excited about but someone The Wolf and Action Jackson really admire. After hosting amazing guests on our 50th (Ryan Condal, House of the Dragon), 100th (live review of Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets after interviewing Guy Pratt and Gary Kemp on ep 96), and 150th (Steve Kilbey of The Church) we needed someone special to commemorate this milestone. As luck would have it, legendary guitarist and member of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Steve Howe (Yes, Asia) is releasing his latest solo album, Guitarscape, on September 27 and made himself available to us. As we tried hard not to be complete fanboys, we asked Steve to walk us through how he started building the bones of the album in 2019 thanks to a new Novatron that he'd acquired. We speak with Steve about the different textures of the album from acoustics (Spring Rhyme) to his signature hollow body electrics (Distillations, Passing Thoughts) to his brand new pedal steel (Equinox, Steel Breeze). With his son Dylan on the drums, Steve has put together a colorful palette of textures using his many talents and toys. We also manage to work in some questions about touring with Yes in the US with Deep Purple; however, when we interviewed him the tour was yet to begin, at the time of the release of this episode the tour had concluded. It sounds like there will be more new Yes music and future tours which is wonderful to hear. And, of course, we managed to squeeze in an Asia question because as long time listeners will tell you, it all comes back to Asia. The bottomline is we think you'll love our chat with Steve Howe and encourage you to pick up Guitarscape September 27. And thanks to everyone who's supported us through the first 200 episodes - we have much more in store so stay tuned. House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season. Based on parts of Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the "Dance of the Dragons". House of the Dragon received a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with casting beginning in July 2020 and principal photography starting in April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The series premiered on August 21, 2022, with the first season consisting of ten episodes. Five days after its premiere, the series was renewed for a second season. Sapochnik departed as showrunner after the first season, leaving Condal to serve as the sole showrunner for the second season. The second season premiered on June 16, 2024, consisting of eight episodes. In June 2024, ahead of the second-season premiere, the series was renewed for a third season. The first season received positive reviews, with praise towards its character development, visual effects, writing, score by Ramin Djawadi, and performances. However, the pacing, specifically of the time jumps, and the dark lighting of some scenes were criticized. The series premiere was watched by over 10 million viewers across the linear channels and HBO Max on the first day, the biggest in HBO's history. At the 80th Golden Globe Awards, House of the Dragon won Best Television Series – Drama and Emma D'Arcy was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama. The series earned nine Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and won three British Academy Television Craft Awards. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/popcorn-junkies/message

How *does* one fly a dragon? David and Ryan ask Special Effects legend Mike Dawson, designer and builder of the dragon "buck" for House of the Dragon. They also pester Mike for stories from his totally unfathomable history as a SFX man going all the way back to Superman: The Movie and through Raiders and Empire and Jedi and Temple and Roger Rabbit and Last Crusade! Come for the dragon scuttlebut, stay for the tales of Mike getting chewed out by both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Henry Jones, Sr. "And then I remembered my Charlemagne... let my armies be the rocks and the trees and the birds in the sky!" Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Anthony Daniels. But, unlike some previous episodes of the podcast, this man is actually here in the studio. Virtually. David and Ryan execute an absolute freakin' coup and bring on C-3PO himself, Mr. Anthony Daniels. The guys ask him about his collection from his screen-matched A New Hope hero helmet, to his annotated scripts and learning Ewokese, to his appearance on The Muppet Show, to a remarkably obscene tape dispenser. Listen as two grown-up geeks come face-to-face with their childhood (and the British internet) to speak to the same legend who once convinced a tribe of teddy bears not to eat Harrison Ford. Still tired and poor from holding up paddles in the Greg Jein auction, David and Ryan get their hands on the catalog for Propstore's London auction, taking place from November 9-12. In a super-duper-sized page-turn, the guys hit the highlights such as the good Alien movies (APCs, Pulse Rifles, mini-armor!) and the bad ones (Covenant), Back to the Future time machine parts, a healthy debate over Batman costume nomenclature, a super-duper Blade Runner collection, whether or not it's OK to want a Clockwork Orange costume, the REST (?) of the terrifying Mario Kirner FT13th collection, Gladiator armo(u)rs, some big brass balls, The Bad's very good fedora, over-priced Indy shirts, reasonably-priced Indy whips, Captain America shields, Iron Man helmets, Books of the Dead!, Books of the Living!, a script that might bring Stanley Kubrick back from the dead, and of course, the epic Anthony Daniels collection. So check your internet speeds, take a chill pill, and download the catalog and the episode! David and Ryan sit down for a long-form chat with the co-founder of Screen-Used (RIP), one of the outfits that helped to bring movie memorabilia collecting out of the niche and into the mainstream. Desi talks about his story, how he discovered collecting (via a Back to the Future II hoverboard), how built his passion up into a viable retail and auction business -- all while holding down a grow-up job! The guys talk with Desi about buying twelve movie guns at a single auction, buying a T2 motorcycle from the guy who made T2, buying a screen-matched Darth Vader from another biker-dude, retirement and the eventual demise of Screen-Used, and being -- quite possibly -- the greatest Ebay bidder of all time.
