David and Jean dig into community feedback on "Faceless Men," covering listener reactions to the episode's many moving pieces and open questions. The discussion takes in Marilyn's deep dive into the history of male squeamishness around menstruation, Jacob G.'s sharp parallel between Hugh's disastrous trip home and the Gold Cloak resignations, and the community's ongoing debate about Alys Rivers and whether the show has yet given her a moment that earns her the witch credibility the story keeps implying she deserves. Military Corner returns with a breakdown of Cole's flail and a primer on the rules of warfare, specifically the line between an allowed ruse de guerre and an act of perfidy, applied to what we just watched on screen.Contact UsQuestions or comments? This one is called “Faceless Men” because so many people pretend to be who they are not… including the dead themselves. There is much to say about purpose, duty, a reason to fight on, or not. Daeron isn't just being raised by Ormund Hightower — he's being molded into one. On this episode of Scene N Nerd, Sarah and Will break down HOTD 3x06 ("Faceless Men") from the shocking cold open all the way through the Harrenhal seduction, and there's a lot to get through. We open with Ser Criston Cole's genuinely unceremonious death — ambushed by the "dead" river lords in a moment that plays almost like a Robb Stark callback — before digging into the episode's real gut-punch: Daeron's cousin Ormund grooming him into a puppet king while teaching him to see his own Targaryen blood as the "tainted" half of who he is. We also get his actual uncle, Gwayne, showing up as a completely different kind of family — and a much-needed reality check for both of them. Timestamps: 00:00 – Intro 01:49 – Cold open: Ser Criston Cole's unceremonious death 07:43 – Ormund & Daeron: the abuse subtext nobody's talking about 10:14 – Molding Daeron into the "puppet king" 11:02 – Hightower cousins: the friction behind the throne 12:31 – Does Daeron actually know he's being played? 13:24 – "Closest and farthest thing from a Targaryen" 14:39 – The assassins, the "stink" payoff, and Gwayne's hero moment 18:07 – Corlys, Alyn, and the fight over the Velaryon name 21:45 – Baela, Addam, and the "very dutiful" line 25:12 – Aegon & Larys: a villain with humor, finally hearing the truth 27:48 – Team Alicent: caught, punished, and the pregnancy reveal 29:48 – Helena's visions pay off — Aemond found at Harrenhal 34:33 – Team "Cursed": Alys Rivers, dragon eggs, and Harrenhal's history 37:25 – Hugh's disguised visit to his wife in Tumbleton 39:45 – Alyn, Hugh, and Team Black's shaky dragonriders 41:48 – Rhaenyra, the throne, and the self-inflicted theme 43:53 – Daemon's indigestion joke and his impulsive streak in King's Landing 45:37 – Closing out: the Valyrian bloodline and the family tree jokes. David and Jean cover episode six, unpacking the episode's title across its multiple meanings and what they signal about where the season is heading. The discussion covers Criston Cole's end, Daemon's increasingly poor judgment, the Gold Cloak crisis, and what the shadowy assassin network operating inside King's Landing means for Rhaenyra's grip on power. David also brings some real world political history to bear on the question of what happens when rulers neglect their security forces.Contact UsQuestions or comments? Dopo due episodi estremamente attendisti, House Of The Dragon torna finalmente a colpire con morti, rivelazioni e possibili tradimenti. This week, Da7e and Neil are trudging through the mud of the Riverlands as House of the Dragon continues to slog its way toward a season 3 conclusion. In The Calm [04:54], they call for justice for one of the continent's coolest archers, find themselves perplexed by several adaptation choices, and attempt to place blame for the episode's structural problems. Then in The Storm [01:06:38], the butterfly effect spreads its wings as Neil attempts to piece together the road ahead. Your faithful hosts also attempt to outline what's in store for the penultimate episode and the alleged 75-minute season finale.Next week, season 3 reaches its penultimate frame. Will there be a big battle? Will there be a huge plot twist? Will the show divert from the books in a major way? Or will it be more filler... Regardless, the pod will return on Monday to break it all down.To interact with the show, send your comments and questions to stormofspoilers@gmail.com, and follow us on Twitter/X and Bluesky @Da7eandNeil.You can also support Da7e and Neil and get all kinds of bonus content (from the Game of Thrones era to the LOST rewatch to our Twin Peaks rewatch project to our current Adventure Pod and Dark watch project) by subscribing to our Patreon here: patreon.com/Da7eandNeil
Jason and Greta dive into the monumental sixth episode of the season. They welcome back Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole) to discuss this episode, Cole's journey to find his purpose, and where Fabien is on his own journey with imposter syndrome. Then, Greta talks with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Prince Daeron Targaryen) about Daeron's identity crisis and what Daeron would be like as King. And finally, Jason and Greta sit down with Production Designer Jim Clay to learn how they built the town of Tumbleton for Season 3. Learn more about your ad choices. Send us Fan MailThis was another good episode. And another good build up to Tumbleton. Both sides took a big loss. The greens lost Crispy and the Blacks lost the Seas Snake, but not from death. We saw the beginning of a relationship with Baela and Alyn, as well as Alys and Eyemond and possibly the end of a relationship with Hugh and his wife. Daemo found the killer responsible for the deaths of the gold Cloaks and he embarrassed the hell out of Ulf...again. Rhaena is back in the Vale being a nuisance and Alicat and Rhaenyra are still playing cat and mouse. This episode also gave us better insight into who Daeron is, who Ormund really is, and their relationship...#houseofthedragonhbo #watchdemthrones #demdragons #demthrones #blackwithnochaser
While Ormund's patient plan has given Team Green an advantage, Team Black bickers on how to respond.
