We Need To Check Ourselves (1) (audio) David Eells 1/3/24 We are very close to the appearance of the Man-child reformers to chose the Bride. It is past time to stop playing and draw close to the Lord. It is time to check ourselves to be sure we are in the running. Major disasters are coming at the same time so pray that you are accounted worthy to escape all these things. Lam 3:40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah. 1Co 11:27-34 Wherefore whosoever shall eat the bread or drink the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man prove himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and drink of the cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh, eateth and drinketh judgment unto himself, if he discern not the body. 30 For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep. 31 But if we discerned ourselves, we should not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. 33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, wait one for another. 34 If any man is hungry, let him eat at home; that your coming together be not unto judgment. And the rest will I set in order whensoever I come. 2Co 13:5 Try your own selves, whether ye are in the faith; prove your own selves. Or know ye not as to your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you? unless indeed ye be reprobate. Gal 6:4 But let each man prove his own work, and then shall he have his glorying in regard of himself alone, and not of his neighbor. Psa 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts; 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. Psa 26:1-2 A Psalm of David. Judge me, O Jehovah, for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in Jehovah without wavering. 2 Examine me, O Jehovah, and prove me; Try my heart and my mind. Eph 5:15-21 Look therefore carefully how ye walk, not as unwise, but as wise; 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit; 19 speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; 21 subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ. (Rev 3:11 I come quickly: hold fast that which thou hast, that no one take thy crown.) Purposely Desire The Lord Anonymous 4/7/23 (David's notes in red) Nothing comes from anything else other than Me. Not your own works, or other people, or this earth. Just Me. (Joh 3:27 ASV John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it have been given him from heaven.) Endure the suffering now. Have selflessness now above all. If it hurts or is undesirable to the flesh, it is most likely to be for My Glory. (As in Death to self; the crucified life.) There are testings of your patience and diligence to make way for the end result of My Will. And these testings will enable you to always resist the enemy. Have a high regard and hope of Who I Am! (The highest of all, the creator of all; cares for you.) Ask yourself, can there be anything I cannot do? Would I leave anything undone? (Jer 32:27 ASV Behold, I am Jehovah, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?) Keep loving so much so, that the intensity drives darkness into nothingness. You are in a very tough but major change. Be ready for the blessings in abundance. (I felt to be ready to utilize, not just receive.) Let go of your own feelings and satisfactions. Look at My Son. Did He not lay His life down for you, and yet said nothing? (We are to do just the same as Lord Jesus.) NENT Act 8:32-35 Now the passage of the scripture which he was reading was this, He was led as a sheep to slaughter; And as a lamb before his shearer is dumb, So he openeth not his mouth: 33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: His generation who shall declare? For his life is taken from the earth. 34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other? 35 And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this scripture, preached the gospel to him, Jesus. 1Jn 3:16 Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. Repent quickly. The quicker you do so, you can then be close to each other as I am to you. (I saw a triangle. We must yearn for each other in unity.) You are in a time of sanctification. Tried and true. (I saw how metal being beaten into shape by a blacksmith and tried and proven and made stronger in a fiery furnace.) There is nothing that compares to My Love. I want you and desire your company forever. Cherish this and do not get distracted from My Love. I am pure and true. Everything else is a test of our love together. When you see the time where children and those young in faith are speaking as Jesus did in the temple, then you are unable to ask for more time for the end of time is here. Be ready. (I felt that these are the times where we are seeing those being called out from the apostate churches, His Sheep who follow His Voice, for Our Father's Glory.) NENT Luk 2:46-49 And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and asking them questions: 47 and all that heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said unto him, Child, why hast thou thus dealt with us? lo, thy father and I seek thee sorrowing. 49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? knew ye not that I must be about my Father's business. Trust Me. I have a way. (I felt we are to let go of all our desires and to treat each day as the last. Not for pleasure but for closeness to Him.) Hold to Me. Never let go. You are doing well and keeping true on the righteous path. Never let this be a reason to stop or slow down. Never allow lies or self to be a hinderance to our life together – now. There Must Be An Exchange Debbie Fenske 12/30/23 (David's notes in red) My children let Me speak this Word of love to you from My heart. Being where you are does not make you part of My Holy Bride. Only ignoring this world around you, and consuming yourself with the business of My Kingdom, willingly and faithfully from a heart of total repentance, and a life of Holy Living as you abide in Me, do I stamp upon you, “Holiness To the Lord." In this hour of much darkness and much falling away of My people, I need your oneness with Me, and I so desire My oneness with you. I need you to be in the thick of warfare against this darkness. Realize the exchange that has taken place. I have been exchanged for meaningless activities. Do you really understand the times we are in? Yes, we are in this together. You need to make the exchange back from the meaninglessness to My High Calling, exchange from darkness to light. Yes. I say that this is an exchange from darkness to light. Let Me open your eyes so that you will see the darkness where you spend so much of your time. This world and the things that are only for occupying your mind and your time are things of darkness. (The distractions of the pleasures of the flesh are darkness.) For a very short time, now, My hand of invitation is still mercifully stretched out to you. What great mercy I have given to you, My people. I have given you so much of everything. So much of Myself. And now the choosing of My Bride is at hand. This is the time to make the exchange. You know what I am asking each of you. Search your hearts. Examine your hearts. Separation is not what I am merely asking of you. I Am requiring it of you. Be diligent to enter the fight for those to whom I have called, and am calling, still, out of My great mercy. Enter in, in the beauty of holiness. Remember, desire is not enough. Your will must win over mere desire. Just as My will was to give My life for Yours, so now, so close in this last hour, will you by your will, and by My extended grace and mercy, give up your life for Me and for others? There are many who need you to give up your life for them, in warfare for them against the enemy. Have you not known that playtime has been over? The time has always been for death to self, but life in Me, for Me and with Me in our Kingdom Reign together on this earth for eternity. Eternity is right now. Right now, spend it with Me on your knees. Keep your hearts bowed. I Am waiting to cloth you with My glory. Are you making yourselves worthy of My High Calling? You are not alone, though you may feel it, being separated from beloved friends and family. For I have given you one another, a family to work together, to come into this calling together as one in Me. I love you, My Children. So Many Will Not Be Kept Safe Debbie Fenske 9/30/23 (David's notes in red) I received this last Thursday night, 9-28-23. It was our worship and praise night on the Zoom Outreach conference call. I could not share it that night because I knew I had to pray about how to present this. Our worship time was awesome. It was such a wonderful uplifting time. I was being really blessed worshiping and praising God, and being lifted up in my spirit, so, I was not prepared for such a turn that I received. One of the last few songs we were singing had lyrics about how He will keep us in the fire, and He will keep us in the storm. After that song I began feeling a spirit of heaviness come over me. It just wasn't normal. I asked Father, “What is this all about, God? Why am I feeling this way?” And then, suddenly I was seeing a vision of Jesus in a white robe. His hair was brown, and shoulder length. His head was somewhat bowed allowing His hair to fall forward over His shoulders, and hang down at each side of His face. Then, I was suddenly given a closer view of His face, like the way a camera focuses on an object. I could see Jesus was not happy. I could tell He was very sad, and grieving, and I could not understand that, because I thought our worship time was so great. Then our worship went into another song with real high praise, and people were so happy, lifting up Jesus. The main lyrics, I will say, were, “I just can't stop praising His Name.” And the song kind of went on and on. I opened my eyes and watched as I was singing with them. It was really a great song. But I was feeling this heaviness at the same time, Then, closing my eyes again, I was again seeing the same vision of Jesus, really grieving, with such sadness on His face. I couldn't understand this. I was still confused, asking myself, “Why this, now?” Then, Jesus faded out, and I was looking at what I had just been watching: people on stage, raising their arms, singing loudly, kicking their legs, and dancing, and twirling while praising God. I saw one group of praisers that were really dressed up, and then another group of praisers were in just jeans and T-shirt, just like what we were watching in these worship videos. But what I heard the Lord say after that, I don't think He was necessarily applying to these particular groups, individuals, and choirs of people that we were just seeing in the worship videos. But He was referring to many people out there that are lifted up in this way. And not just groups or individuals who are popular out there, but to so many who are saying they are doing what they are doing for God's kingdom. But they are not. As I was watching that vision, and after seeing Jesus looking so sad and grieved, and feeling His heart, this is what the Lord said. “So many will not be kept safe from the burning fire, from the storm, from the battle. They will not be kept safe, though they praise Me, because they have not known Me. They are deceived. Oh, they look like they know Me when they are singing great songs of praise to Me. But though they know that what they sing about Me is true, they do not know Me.” “They boast in that I love them. But they cannot boast in their love for Me, for they do not know Me. Therefore, I do not know them. These people grieve My heart so, as I watch them make fools of themselves before the devil and his demons. If they only would really want to know what is in My Word. But they have no desire to know My Word, because they have no real desire to know Me. What they really desire is to be looked upon and worshiped by others. Foolish, they are.” “And though it grieves Me, I know that there are many of them who realize they are empty of Me, and will repent, and come to Me, and follow Me. But so much more than those who will repent, are those who will not repent, and are going to stay on their stage singing their way into hell.” After I finished writing this down, I just happened to opened my Bible. I wasn't, at this point, going for a random word for confirmation. But I was thinking I would do that. So I was really amazed when I read the verses that my eyes looked down at after I opened my Bible. Thank you Lord! I looked at verse 7 of Matthew 7. I'm reading Matthew 7:6-7. 6 And He said unto them, “Rightly did Isaiah, prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: this people honors Me with their lips, but their hearts are far away from Me. 7 But in vain, do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.” So, the numbers, 767 strongly stood out to me. When numbers stand out to me I like to look them up in the Strongs concordance. So what Strongs says of 767 is, “of no mark, unmarked, or unstamped, insignificant, ignoble.” Oh Father, You've shown that You do grieve for those who are in such a deceived state. It is scary to be thinking that people who worship You before men, are in that place. (Hollywood entertainment has invaded the Church.) The same as all people who say they are Christians, but are deceived by doctrines of demons, thinking that popularity while wearing Your name tag is acceptable. They know of You only in their head, not in their heart. But so many do not realize that they are unmarked, or unstamped, and insignificant to You, and ignoble in what they think they are doing unto You, or for Your kingdom. And they don't realize that You do not know them. I pray that we, and all of Your people will always examine our hearts before You, searching our hearts, and repenting, of not worshipping You in spirit and in truth in all we do. Father, as we are staying in Your Word, reveal to us where we are being in the flesh, and of any spirit of pride and self-grandeur which is so unpleasing to You, so that we can repent. Thank You for Your grace to us to stay in the light of Your Word, wanting Your light to shine on any darkness in our lives so that we can repent and remain true, pure, and clean before You, before one another, and before those out in the world, for Your honor and glory alone. Please open the eyes of Your people, quickly, who don't see that they are in this dangerous, place, trapped in the lie of the devil that tells them they are right with You, while they are really just lifting up themselves, desiring only to please men. Please make them aware of the strong truth of Your words in Matthew 7:23, “I never knew you.” And Matthew 25:41“Depart from me ye cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Lord, put in them a Holy fear of You, and cause them to repent, to change their ways by walking according to Your Word. Deliver them from the darkness so that they will be a Light in the darkness, bringing honor to only Your name, never to their own. And always, in all they do, worship You from their heart, in spirit, and in truth. Thank you, Father. Amen. Sing For The Lord Anonymous 4/9/23 (David's notes in red) “Are you worshipping Me to make yourself feel good or are you doing it for (or to revere) Me? The songs you listen to and the words you sing, are they Holy? Are they, My Word? Are they truth? Or is it repetitive flesh pleasing and self-pleasing words? Are the words (lyrics) contrary to My Word? Are the feelings you are experiencing the Holy Spirit, or the flesh being aroused? Is this for Me or for You? Don't you know that you can't even speak or walk without Me and My grace? Use your mouth for Me and My Glory. Let Me bridle your tongue and let Me only speak through you. Stop speaking about self and singing for self. Think about how those who worship Me now in the Holy of Holies for eternity. You have heard some say, ‘Holy Holy Holy' and they don't speak or glorify self. Think and speak with Me about the beats you listen to. Music goes straight to your soul and there is no filter, spirits transfer whether you see it or not. Are the people you are listening to singing from My Spirit? Are the instrumentals to Glorify Me and from Me or is it another spirit to make and manipulate you to feel a certain way? Is it making your flesh feel good? When the song finishes do you lose the joy? Does it feel like a come down? Or is it My Joy that is always present? Does the pleasure only last the duration of the song or is it My Peace which is always there? Abide and remain in My presence. Ask Me and allow Me to open your eyes to see what spirits are singing, speaking and playing through in the songs you listen to. Allow Me to show you what is really happening in the spiritual when you listen to these songs. When you listen to it you are agreeing with it and in some ways, it has put you under curses. Yes, My Grace is for you but I can't break or go against My own words. Touch NO unclean thing and be Holy as I Am Holy. I love when you sing to Me from your heart. It doesn't matter the tone of your voice or how it sounds in the physical. Your singing from your heart gives Me greater joy than you know. I created you to sing for me and dance for Me. Allow My spirit to sing through you. You don't need to always listen to others singing when you don't even know what spirit they are singing from, and you don't even know them. Sing to Me, you don't even need a beat but sing to Me, My child with My Spirit, commune with Me not just in Spirit and Word but in songs and dance. When you are alone and when you come together. The flesh doesn't like the Spirit singing and dancing through you to Me and will do anything to hinder it. Your Spirit desires to sing and dance to Me always. And when you do it hinders and crucifies the flesh so your Spirit rises up. I love you My child but do these things. I desire you to be clean, holy, pure, undefiled. I Am with you and I will help you, I will show you if you just ask.” Your Time Is My Time Eve Brast 7/23/17 (David's notes in red) Father spoke a word to me that I would like to share. I had been meditating on a couple of conversations I'd had with a brother and sister after the morning prayer meeting and, as a result, I asked Father to speak to me. I realized I hadn't heard from Him in a while so I asked Him why he'd been silent lately? He answered me immediately as if He had been waiting for my attention. He said, "I have not been silent. It's that your mind has been too loud. Empty your mind and void it of busyness and the soulish thoughts that continually scream for your attention. Still your mind and be quiet and you will hear My voice clearly. Don't allow external distraction or the soulish thought life dull your discernment of the attacks from the enemy. He hides behind these and intermingles with them to keep you in turmoil and keep you from fully entering into the life and purpose I intend for you. Guard your mind with My Word. Build the wall with the Rock of my Word and the mortar of quietness and stillness of mind. This will protect and strengthen your mind with My peace and a singleness of purpose. Cast down the soulish thought life and turn away from distraction. Shut them out so you can hear Me clearly and distinguish the voice of the enemy. Strive to walk out your days in stillness of mind. As you train your mind in this way, I will meet you there in the stillness.” I asked our Father for a verse or text for this word and received: Psalm 139:3 (1-4), O Jehovah, thou hast searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising; Thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou searchest out my path and my lying down, And art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether. When I was driving home from work Sunday evening, Father again spoke very clearly to me as I was thinking on this Word above. He said, "Your time is My time! Don't waste My time. Seek Me on how I would have you spend it.” This really convicted me, because I do waste time at some point each day. I didn't realize that He considered my time His time and that it was precious to Him. I figured, "Well, I'm nobody, so how I spend free time isn't all that important.” Looks like I was presumptuous on that one! I asked Him for a verse concerning my time being His time and received, Acts 1:14 These all with one accord continued stedfastly in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. Hope this helps any who are also struggling in these areas. Scripture Test of Discipleship David Eells Rom 8:13 for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Mat 10:34 Think not that I came to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law: 36 and a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that doth not take his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lose it; and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. Joh 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit. 25 He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honor. 1Co 9:23 And I do all things for the gospel's sake, that I may be a joint partaker thereof. 24 Know ye not that they that run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? Even so run; that ye may attain. 25 And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, as not uncertainly; so fight I, as not beating the air: 27 but I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage: lest by any means, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected. Luk 13:6 And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. 7 And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground? 8 And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9 and if it bear fruit thenceforth, well; but if not, thou shalt cut it down. Jas 1:2 Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations; 3 knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience. 4 And let patience have its perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing. 5 But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord; 8 a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways. 2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their lascivious doings; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction slumbereth not. 4 For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live ungodly; 7 and delivered righteous Lot, sore distressed by the lascivious life of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their lawless deeds): 9 the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment; 10 but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise dominion. Daring, self-willed, they tremble not to rail at dignities: Jas 5:9 Murmur not, brethren, one against another, that ye be not judged: behold, the judge standeth before the doors. 10 Take, brethren, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spake in the name of the Lord. 11 Behold, we call them blessed that endured: ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, how that the Lord is full of pity, and merciful. Rom 8:17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him. 29 because to you it hath been granted in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer in his behalf: 2 Th 1:4 so that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions which ye endure; 5 which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God; to the end that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 1Pe 2:20 For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted for it, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 1Pe 3:14 But even if ye should suffer for righteousness' sake, blessed are ye: and fear not their fear, neither be troubled; 1Pe 4:19 Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing unto a faithful Creator. Rev 2:10 Fear not the things which thou art about to suffer: behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.
The Deception Of Satan Episode One Many Christians (especially those that are new to the faith) are unaware of the schemes, wiles, deception, and intent of Satan. I will share Bible verses today that will help believers understand and inform them how to equip and defend themselves against Satan, demons, principalities, and spiritual wickedness in high places. Jesus himself warned his followers about Satan. The Apostles Peter, Paul, Jude, etc warned believers as well. Sadly most churches, theological teachers, and seminaries vaguely talk about Spiritual Warfare leaving the church folks, and students ill-equipped against their adversary the Devil. Because many are unaware of his devices, methods, tactics, schemes, etc. I am Praying this Bible study will help you to lean on the Lord Jesus Christ even more putting on the full armor of God and allowing the The Father and Holy Ghost to help you as well in your victory against Satan's demonic schemes to rob, kill, and destroy. Commentary and study notes on the Devil. Strongs definition of the Greek word translated Satan is: "the accuser, i.e. the devil." Strongs definition of the Greek word translated devil is: a slanderer, a false accuser). The devil and Satan is one and the same entity and is also called "the tempter" (see Matt 4:1-3 and vs. 10), the evil one (Matt 13:38), the great dragon and serpent of old (Rev 12). The Devil knows and quotes Scriptures to promote false doctrine and deceptions (see Matt 4:1-11). He plants his people in the Kingdom (see Matt 13:38-39). He takes away the word of God from the heart of His people (Luke 8:10-13). He puts into the hearts of men to do evil even to the extent of betraying the Son of God (John 13:2). He can oppress some to the point that they need healing (Acts 10:38-39). If you let the sun go down on your anger you give the devil an opportunity (Eph 4:25-28). He has schemes against us (Eph 6:11-12). He is able to ensnare and hold people captive to do his will (II Tim 2:25-26). He is like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour (I Peter 5:8-9). He has works (I John 3:8-9). He even tried to tempt the Son of God to sin (Matt 4:1-11). Tares and Goats are his children (Matt 13:38-39). Luke 8:10-13 …11 "Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God. 12 "And those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. John 13:2 …2 And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him, Acts 10:38-39 …38 "You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with Him. Evan and Steven Strong return to the Garden to discuss Lemuria. You might recall they gained sacred knowledge from Original Australians through mutual trust and respect. So, where was Lemuria - or...where is Lemuria? What was the extent of Lemuria at it's full size? Was Atlantis involved? Were aliens involved? Spoilers: yes and yes. What is the "navel of the world" and what does that mean? We discuss the newly discovered language of Lemuria. The Strongs have translated it. It is the language before Babel. It is the language of the Angels. Or Sky Heroes as the Originals call them. All this and so much more. AboutWhat if the business you've worked so hard to build faces the threat of being torn down by racial discrimination and power dynamics? This is the lived reality of Michelle and Lasalle Strong, owners of Capitola Bar & Grill, who found themselves embroiled in a tense standoff with a hostile, possibly racist, landlord. Throughout this episode, you'll walk a mile in their shoes, experiencing their trials and tribulations, from the hurdles of starting a business to the struggle of maintaining it amidst racially tinged landlord disputes. The Strongs share the raw truth about the power dynamics that overshadow their journey, from their landlord's attempts to default their lease to the bureaucratic difficulties in proving racism. As we journey deeper into their compelling narrative, we also examine the broader societal issues at play. We challenge the norms established by patriarchal society and racial biases, questioning the entitlement to wealth and success. We also discuss the role of corporate giants like Verizon in supporting financial bigotry and the importance of community-driven change. But it's not all about struggle and strife. Amidst these tumultuous times, the Strongs have managed to launch a culinary adventure - the Firehouse Pizza Company. Stand with us against individuals who threaten to dismantle progress towards unity and inclusivity. YHWH is the name of God in Hebrew. The sum of the numerical value of the Hebrew letters Y (yod ), H (he), W (waw), H (he), 10+ 5+ 6+ 5 = 26!!! AND if we were to give numerical values to our English alphabet A-Z like 1-26 G= 7, 0=15, D=4 also adds up to 26!!!!! WHA?So the #26 represents God/YHWH.Also, Strongs #26 is the Greek word : Agape, which is greek for LOVE. It is used in the New Testament 116 times- most seen in the 4th chapter of 1st John.1 John 4:16 God is LOVE.This the second episode of The Deep series and we are talking through Genesis 1 it's references to the deep, to spiritual wisdom and to living with an awareness and reverence for the Unseen realm. This episode is packed full of wisdom and deep thoughts in conversation with Brandi Haskins, a teacher and a student of the Word. Margaux and Brandi explore fact vs. Higher truth, giving weight to our spiritually discerning faculties and the fact that God is Spirit- and God created all things. So the physical realm that we experience came FROM the Spirit… spirit births physical. In Genesis 3 Eve saw that the forbidden tree was “ desirable for gaining wisdom”. But this is not wisdom as we think of it. Brandi reads it as “knowledge that Adam and Eve were not meant to have.”Other favorite Brandi quotes from the Episode:“The first thing they noticed was a physical thing, they didn't notice a spiritual thing… It says they were ashamed but the FIRST thing they noticed was that they were naked.”“The highest form of truth is the spiritual.”“The spiritual is higher truth and my problems aren't going to be solved in the physical realm”“When you are in fear, you are far from divine wisdom .”----------------------------------We are going TOGETHER: BREATHING UNDERWATER MEMBERSHIPSThe Intro Membership $29 monthlyMargaux will host a monthly 2 hour Group Mentorship call every 2nd Saturday: 10am -12pm PST. I will share Bible verses today that will help believers understand and inform them how to equip and defend themselves against Satan, demons, principalities, and spiritual wickedness in high places. Jesus himself warned his followers about Satan. The Apostle Peter, Paul, Jude and so forth want to believe is as well sadly most churches theological teachers and seminaries vaguely talk about the spiritual warfare leaving the church people that students against their adversary the devil because many are unaware of his devices methods, tactics, schemes etc. I am praying this Bible study will help you to lean on the Lord Jesus Christ even more putting on the full armor of God and allow the Father and the Holy Ghost to help you as well in your victory against Satan demonic schemes to rob, kill, and destroy. Commentary study notes on the devil Strongs definition of the Greek word translated Satan is accuser the devil. Strongs definition of the Greek word translated devil is slanderer and false accuser. The devil and Satan is one and same entity and is called the tempter (Matthew chapter 4 verses one through three and verse 10).The Evil One (Matthew 13:38). The dragon or great dragon and the serpent of old (Revelation Chapter 12) The devil knows and quote Scriptures to promote false doctrine and deceptions See Matthew 4:1-11). He plants his people into the Kingdom. You can read (Matthew 13:38-39). He takes away the word of God from the heart of his people Luke chapter 8 verse 10 through 13. He puts in the heart of man to do evil even to the extent of betraying the son of God (John chapter 13 verse 2). He can oppress some to the point that they need healing (Acts chapter 10 verse 38 through 39). If you let the Sun go down on your anger you give the devil an opportunity Ephesians chapter 4 verses 25 through 28. he has schemes against us Chapter 6 verse 11 through 12. He is able to ensnare and hold people captive to do his will 2nd Timothy chapter 2 verses 25 through 26. he is like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour 1st Peter chapter 5 verses eight through nine. He has works 1st John chapter 3 verse eight through nine. He even tried to tempt the son of God to sin Matthew chapter 4 verses one through 11. Tares and goat are his children Matthew chapter 13 verses 38 through 39. He takes away God's word from people hearts Luke chapter 8-10 through 13 John Chapter 13 verse 2, Acts Chapter 10 verse 38 through 39 Ephesians Chapter 4 verses 26 through 28. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblequestionsandanswers/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblequestionsandanswers/support

Psalm 57:7 My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. Fixed, Strongs (h3559) is used to describe many miraculous works of God, including creation itself. The same word is used to describe God's working in our hearts to save and keep us.
War on Righteousness opens our study as we look at the Throne of Iniquity in this study. Within this scope of study, we will recognize that as far as this phrase is concerned, many nations have that characteristic. According to Strongs the word throne brings us to the idea of being established in iniquity; or sustaining iniquity. But this study goes further than looking at wicked thrones. We look at how God works in the lives of his people who love him. We look at allowing vengeance to belong to the Lord God who will judge all men and their deeds. Go https://linktr.ee/warnradio more info. War on #Righteousness recognizes the #power of the #wicked cannot endure. #Godspower always prevails even as the wicked #principalities and #powers gather, make #covenants to accomplish their #wickedplots. All the while, the #righteous call upon #God to #deliver them from this evil. Today through the triumph of #Yeshua, #JesusChrist on the #cross; he has triumphed overall #principalities and #powers. Although, we #believers will experience #tribulation in the world, the fact is that some #Christian brothers and sisters go through extreme troubles as believers in our Lord. Yet the Lord is in control today just as he has always been and our #redemption is closer than ever. Pastor Bill: [2:04] Hello and welcome to season four, episode four of The Berean Manifesto; Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern Christian. I'm Pastor Bill and I am joined by Pastor Newms. As always, Newms, how are you doing? Pastor Newms: [2:22] I'm good, sir. How are you today? Pastor Bill: [2:24] I'm well tonight. I'm well. How was your Christmas break? We took two weeks off the podcast. Pastor Newms: [2:30] We did. We were busy between the two of us. Days that you weren't busy. I was, days that you were busy. I wasn't. And it made it very. It's no big deal. It's the holidays. I mean, I actually texted Mom. I was like, Hey, make sure Biggs is on right on time tonight because I had something funny. And she was like, I didn't know you guys were going live tonight. I was like, That's true. It is the first. So the way it fell, you know, it's a little different, but it's good. It's good. I had pretty, pretty good things. I worked. A lot. I've only had I had last Friday and then Monday, and then I have Monday off. So it was three, four-day weeks in a row. But I didn't take any additional time this year because I didn't do any traveling, so I saved my vacation for later. So. And Biggs is saying that you did your office is something different that I'm not noticing? Pastor Bill: [3:48] Um, I don't know. I mean, we did. It is a recent redo, and then we did take a couple of weeks off, so. Maybe it's just hitting different. Pastor Newms: [3:59] Maybe. I don't know. I don't know. How was your holidays? Pastor Bill: [4:05] All right, So. There were holidays. You know, my sister Natalie flew in from California with her husband, Luke. We haven't seen them in three years, so we got to go spend some time with them. That was fun and games and whatnot over at my mom's house. Pastor Newms: [4:28] Did you guys get any bad ice or anything? Pastor Bill: [4:28] Christmas at the mother-in-law's. We got some cold, but there was no bad ice. Pastor Newms: [4:36] That's good. There was snow on the ground near Christmas, but technically not a white Christmas this year. It was like. Pastor Bill: [4:44] We got snow. But it didn't stick. So. Pastor Newms: [4:49] And we had ice by the time it was Christmas. Pastor Bill: [4:50] And then today. It was like 80 degrees with a nice breeze outside. I spent like 2 hours in the front yard laying on a comforter spread. Doing my last-minute study for tonight. Just enjoying the, you know, the nice temperatures. Pastor Newms: [5:10] It's like sixties here now. Yeah. So. Pastor Bill: [5:17] Cool. But as far as weeks go, it was just, you know, busy with a bunch of holidays. Pastor Newms: [5:25] Yeah, I. I did something. I did something big in games, but not a huge deal outside of games. I completed the Pokédex for Scarlet Violet, minus one. Because you have to in order to get a tradable version of the legendary, you have to beat the game. And I haven't beaten Violet yet, so I don't have them right on. But I have every other Pokémon in my life decks. And so that was a thing that I did this week and then started playing a completely different game. So that was fun. Yeah, it was fun. Pastor Bill: [6:06] Is the game called Your Chronicle? Pastor Newms: [6:09] No, that's one of my idle games. Your Chronicle and idling to rule the gods are my two idol games that I play, so they're pretty much always up, and Discord just grabs whatever game was up last. I try to normally not play heavy. Lots of movement and sound games during. Pastor Bill: [6:34] Service podcast. Pastor Newms: [6:34] Sunday night. And yes, as Senior Poopie Bottom said, I, I did not know. Okay. So I just realized. Senior Poopy Bottom who Senior Poopy Bottom is. And I don't know if I knew who Senior Poopy Bottom was until just now. Pastor Bill: [6:55] Who is a Senior Poopy Bottom? I do not know who it is. No. Pastor Newms: [6:55] Have we talked about that? Senior Poopy Bottom. Did I know that you were Senior Poopy Bottom? Pastor Bill: [7:05] Let the rest of us in on the secret, bro. Pastor Newms: [7:08] Well, he's sitting on my couch, um, downstairs. Not. Not the dog right here. That'd be creepy. Pastor Bill: [7:16] Not to judge the type. Pastor Newms: [7:18] But that's actually. That's actually Mr. Groggy. Pastor Bill: [7:24] That's Mr. Groggy. How many identities does that man have? Pastor Newms: [7:25] Mr. Groggy. I don't know what I do. Oh. Well, that's why I was like, Wait a second. He was letting me play Violet. Yeah, I let him borrow Violet last week, which is why while he was borrowing Violet, I finished the Scarlet dex and then did a bunch of trades when he came in. You know, because he came to spend New Years with us, and we played Mortal Kombat 11 on the Switch all night till, like, one. And if she says anything, it's not true. Rayne did not beat me like four or five times in a row. That is fake news. If she tells you that it is, it is not true. Mm-hmm. I was not a happy person. She beat me so many times. Just over and over again. And. But anyway, it's. It's all good. Pastor Bill: [8:31] So you got a venom thing? You showed us that. I got a pocket watch that I attached to a wristband. So I can just. Find. Pastor Newms: [8:33] I did. Oh, that's. That's steampunk. Pastor Bill: [8:48] So steampunk. I love it. It's great. So steampunk. Pastor Newms: [8:48] It's so steampunk when you come out here to visit. There's this. And we decide to take everybody to Dollywood. There's down there in Gatlinburg, there's this place that is this thing that you do. I can't do it because it's. It's like 3D and stuff, but. The whole idea is that you're in the steampunk ship going around the world. And so, like in the gift shop, there's the steampunk hats and steampunk goggles. And I was like, Oh, Bill would love all this crap. Pastor Bill: [9:26] Have to go just for the gift shop. Pastor Newms: [9:28] Yeah, we will. We probably won't pay for everyone to do that because it's like, Yeah. That was part of the existing grandma. Gloria's Christmas to us was everything they paid for, for the girls you know how that is, with Six Flags often. And so it was like, oh no. And yes, because I do know how you felt all those times that I beat you now while my children beat me at games so. Mhm. Pastor Bill: [10:00] The wheel of time turns. Pastor Newms: [10:02] Yeah. Yeah. Pastor Bill: [10:05] What else? I got money. I got some money. Um. A couple of shots, of Fireball. Pastor Newms: [10:19] How's that? Okay. Okay. Pastor Bill: [10:22] They sell those little bottles that are just a shot's worth. Pastor Newms: [10:23] I. Yep. Now, I fully understand. It's just. That's an interesting Christmas present. I didn't. Didn't. Huh? Pastor Bill: [10:32] That was one of my favorite stocking stuffers, actually. Pastor Newms: [10:36] He. I can understand. Pastor Bill: [10:41] So, you know. Pastor Newms: [10:43] It's actually, the cinnamon is not that high in carbs. So. Pastor Bill: [10:51] All right. And now it's time for Getting To Know The Pastors. Yep, it is. As I pack my deck. Now the. Yeah. Yeah. Pastor Newms: [10:55] Is it your week? Yeah. Like a pack of cigarettes when neither of us smokes. Okay. That makes so much sense. Only. Hmm. Pastor Bill: [11:07] Right. All right. Would you rather. Pastor Newms: [11:11] I'm going to say something right now. If this card is terrible and we start the year off with an awful card out of your deck, I'm not going to be happy. Go. You did not just change the card. Pastor Bill: [11:29] I'm thinking about it. Pastor Newms: [11:39] Oh, man. Now just read it. Try to start the year off. Right. Pastor Bill: [11:45] So. Yeah. It's starting off, right? I mean, come girl. Pastor Newms: [11:56] Oh. Pastor Bill: [11:59] Okay. I'm sorry. Would you rather. Be the best player on a horrible team or the worst player on a great team. Pastor Newms: [12:14] See, that's really hard because here's the reason why I say that's really hard. So like, if you're the best player on the worst team. And you feel like you're. Like you're wasting your time and talents. And I take that from a team, sports or business. But if you're the worst, you're constantly worried you're about to get got. So. Oh, that's. That's rough. That one is rough. I prefer to be third on either side. Pastor Bill: [12:58] I prefer just not to do team things. But just. Yeah. Pastor Newms: [13:02] I prefer to be like the third or fourth smartest person in a room and the most efficient person in a room. And like the. Unless you get traded a week before the Super Bowl. Um. Pastor Bill: [13:17] Oh, yeah, that would stink. Pastor Newms: [13:20] But Biggs. So Biggs says the worst on a good team. Um, I. Oh, I would have to say probably. Think if I actually had the answer, I would say. I don't want to ever be the best because it just feels. Even being mediocrely above the medium feels terrible when you're doing when you feel like you're doing more than others. Pastor Bill: [13:52] If I was the best, I'd always be worried about eighties montages. It's like if you didn't suddenly be like. You're the best around. And I'd be like, Oh, crap. I'm in a montage. Pastor Newms: [13:57] She's not us. 30-second buffer, 30-second buffer, 30-second buffer, Pastor Bill started. Singing 80 songs. Hmm. For those of you who don't get that joke, come join us live. And you will. Oh, yes. So but you got to choose which one? Which one would you truly choose? I prefer to just be middle, but. I think I agree with Biggs. Pastor Bill: [14:45] The worst. Pastor Newms: [14:46] Yeah, I think it's just I think being the best at anything at any moment is just would be infuriating. Like, if you were. Pastor Bill: [14:52] The worst on the team, I mean. Pastor Newms: [14:54] Because if you're the best on a bad team, I mean, if you're like, yeah, if you're the best on a bad team, you're constantly you'd be constantly frustrated because you're failing, but you're awesome. Pastor Bill: [15:08] I mean, you'd constantly feel like Judas, just like, Man, I am better than these. Oh, wait, That was just. Pastor Newms: [15:14] That was just pride. That's different. That was just. That was just pride. I need a fidget. Okay. I got one. I got one. I just realized I'm fidgeting with an extremely sharp. Knife. And if I slip, I must cut a finger. Of course, that's a straight, like, straight-edge razor blade. That's what I'm looking for. So that should not be what we're fidgeting with. Pastor Bill: [15:40] So. You know, there's a new doctor coming up for Doctor Who? Pastor Newms: [15:44] I have heard. Mm hmm. Hmm. Hmm hmm. Even though I'm far behind. But. Yes. Pastor Bill: [15:47] And David Tennant, David Tennant is now the 10th and the 14th doctor. And there wasn't supposed to be any kind of release this year. And the BBC made this big deal of something big is coming tomorrow. Right. Pastor Newms: [16:08] Like tomorrow is and tomorrow or they made a big deal and it's in the past. Okay. Oh. Pastor Bill: [16:08] And it was. No like. New Years Adam They made a big deal that New Year's Eve, they were going to drop something big. And everybody was like, Oh, we're getting a surprise episode. Some kind of short. It was a trailer for next year's special. They made a Big To-Do about releasing a trailer. Pastor Newms: [16:35] Well, that's what a teaser is. Pastor Bill: [16:36] Oh, people are livid. Pastor Newms: [16:39] That's what a teaser is. It's teasing the fact that there's a trailer. Pastor Bill: [16:40] That they made such a big deal about the trailer. Pastor Newms: [16:45] But that's. They do that with movies. They do that with everything. Because you release a teaser that says that there's a trailer coming. Pastor Bill: [16:46] Oh, people are upset. I'm upset. Pastor Newms: [16:55] I mean, that's what a teaser is. A teaser teases the trailer. Pastor Bill: [16:59] But they could have said, we're releasing a trailer. But they made it sound like they were releasing something real. Pastor Newms: [17:02] No, that's no fun. That's not a teaser. Hmm. Well, it was real. It was real footage. It was. Does he look good as The Doctor? Pastor Bill: [17:09] And then there was this very. Pastor Newms: [17:19] Oh, David Tennant's the next special. Okay. I'm sorry. I thought the next. Oh, okay. I'm trying to. Pastor Bill: [17:24] Gave it the next, like three specials. As the 14th doctor, and then he'll regenerate into the 15th doctor. Pastor Newms: [17:32] I've. I've tried to not be to. Spoilery in the fact that I'm, you know, old dude before chick. Pastor Bill: [17:44] Hmm. You're asking about Nick. Cute chee guy. How do you say his name? Pastor Newms: [17:52] I'm not going to try. I can't speak English correctly. I'm not going to insult someone else. Pastor Bill: [17:57] I didn't want to say it, but. The first Canon black doctor I was going to say is his name, but he's the first Canon Black doctor, which I think is great. Pastor Newms: [18:08] Yes. Pastor Bill: [18:11] We've always known the doctor could and in spoilers. We saw a previous incarnation of the Doctor that's never been released in Canon during Jodie Foster, Jodie Whittaker's time, and as a black woman doctor. Pastor Newms: [18:26] Oh, interesting. Thanks for the spoilers. Pastor Bill: [18:28] But she's not like canon at this point. You know she's, you know, and so it's exciting to see where this actor will take the doctor. But that's what you're asking about. And as far as how he looks. They have released what his costume is. And it's very. Different. Let's put it that way. You know, The Doctor has always been buttoned up in suits and, you know, blah, blah, blah. And this is more like a t-shirt with a blazer and, dress down. It's not now. It's like what we saw in Matt Smith's first promotional material. Pastor Newms: [19:10] Mhm. Pastor Bill: [19:11] Except they've actually said this is actually his clothing. Dr.. Pastor Newms: [19:14] Got it. Interesting. It'll definitely be interesting to see where he takes where they take it with him as the head and where the girls are actually trying to get caught up to then back to where we were. Since they're older now and actually like, you know, cause there was like three the last time we watched it. Um, no, she wasn't that. Who? Pastor Bill: [19:39] Is he Scottish? Biggs, said Scottish black Doctor Who, But I don't think he's Scottish. I think he's. Pastor Newms: [19:48] Mm hmm. I don't think he's Scottish. He's. Uh-hmm. Pastor Bill: [19:51] Ughandan? Pastor Newms: [19:54] Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm. I don't. I don't remember. Pastor Bill: [20:00] I was thinking he was born somewhere else and then grew up and. Pastor Newms: [20:03] Yes, that's what I believe. Because I like him a lot on another show. Pastor Bill: [20:19] Oh, yes. The. The woman. From. Previously, she was Scottish while she sounded Scottish. But she wasn't. She's not officially canon. Pastor Newms: [20:37] Right here. Yeah, and I have no idea. So he's were Rwandan Scottish actor. Pastor Bill: [20:44] Rwandan. Pastor Newms: [20:45] Yeah, he's Rwandan. And his, you know, rose to prominence as Eric on the Netflix show Sex Education. Which is a pretty funny show. It's interesting, you know. And he is. Yeah, It's an interesting show. Pastor Bill: [21:07] I'll take your word on it, as soon as this thing and the BBC finish ironing out their deal to have the full catalog of Doctor Who on Disney Plus. I'll be able to go in and rewatch a whole bunch of stuff and catch back up myself before the new stuff drops. Pastor Newms: [21:28] And. there is how to pronounce his full name, which I. Pastor Bill: [21:37] All right, here we go. Pastor Newms: [21:39] I'm not good with little symbols either. So he doesn't help me, but. Pastor Bill: [21:43] And Cookie. Shoot t. Institute. Hi. Is pronounced Shooty. Okay. It says it's pronounced shooty, not okay. So N - C makes a sound. And his last name is got to. He prefers to go by his middle name professionally, which is shooting. Well, that's fine. I didn't. I've only ever seen his name written. I haven't actually heard anybody say it. So. Pastor Newms: [22:35] I heard it. Once, but I can't remember it. Pastor Bill: [22:42] Yes, because they're supposed to have the exam, which says all 50 years on Disney Plus is supposed to be ironing out that deal to bring. Everything, all of Doctor Who on Disney Plus this year. So all the way from number one, all the way up to all of Jodie Whitaker's tenure and everything moving forward, it's supposed to come out on Disney Plus as it's released by the BBC overseas. Because like, right now I can't watch Doctor Who anywhere unless I download it. I don't have anywhere that I can watch Doctor Who. Pastor Newms: [23:33] Yeah. Right now it's on. I believe it's HBO, Max. And we get it through our AT&T. We have it through. Yeah. Pastor Bill: [23:44] So. I have Hulu. With HBO, Max. But the HBO Max that's with Hulu doesn't include foreign productions. So you can't watch Doctor Who on Hulu with HBO, Max. Pastor Newms: [24:12] Interesting. Pastor Bill: [24:20] Esker Boro, Week three. Oh, it's. It's okay. Pastor Newms: [24:21] Yeah, I already. I already deleted it. Pastor Bill: [24:26] I thought he was saying you could go somewhere to watch Doctor Who, and I was a bit like, Hmm. But no, you're right. It's. Pastor Newms: [24:30] Nope. Now it's gone. It's gone out of everywhere. But what you call it? Yeah. And it's about to be. Pastor Bill: [24:49] Well, it's gone. Whoever got rid of it, it's gone. All right. So. If you haven't been following along in season four, then you've missed. Three episodes. But we didn't get very far in what we're currently talking about. Pastor Newms: [25:06] Well. Well, I mean, we've gotten far. It's just we haven't gotten far. Pastor Bill: [25:13] If we're marking distance by numbers of chapter and verse. Pastor Newms: [25:17] Oh. Hmm. We haven't gotten far. Pastor Bill: [25:20] And we haven't gotten very far. Pastor Newms: [25:23] If you're basing it on that, we have not gotten very far now. Pastor Bill: [25:25] Right. We haven't got to read the first verse, number, and verse. And so this week, first off. Merry Christmas. We are currently in the 12 days of Christmas. Today is what, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, and 31. Is the eighth day of Christmas. I don't know why. I can't just remember which day is which when the eighth day of Christmas, we got Epiphany coming up. So that's fun. Epiphany is January 6th. The day when we celebrate the Wise men, the Magi, the men of Orient, the probably Zoroastrian individuals. Who brought gifts to Jesus with their caravans of camels and. And all the people that came with them. That's coming up. So that's exciting. That's not. I mean, not exciting, but it's exciting to me to mark those holidays, you know, for me personally. But I know a lot of people don't celebrate those things anymore. The commercialization of. Pastor Newms: [26:35] Mm hmm. Pastor Bill: [26:47] Christmas has proliferated greatly. I will just say it. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Any excuse to feel hope and inspiration and to reconnect with people that you haven't connected with in a while. And bury the hatchet and get rid of old grudges. Is a good deal. All right. The baby monitor was still on the receiver. Turn it off. Pastor Newms: [27:25] So. Okay. I was wondering if and could hear Nibbles over here. Nibbles is very loud at the moment, and I just ask the girls to come get her because she is, loud this weekend. Pastor Bill: [27:44] I don't hear the cat. Biggs says that he does. Pastor Newms: [27:48] Yeah, that's Nibbles being a something. Pastor Bill: [27:54] I don't hear it. So we started this. Pastor Newms: [27:55] Well. Pastor Bill: [27:57] We talked about Genesis one-one, and then we talked about Genesis one-two, and then we talked about John one-one, and then we talked about Genesis one-three and Genesis the first half of Genesis one-four. And we did all of that in the first three episodes, so. Where we pick up in this episode is the second half of Genesis one-four. And then we're going to go hopefully all the way through Genesis one-five. Although we may just burn right through this and be done early and be twiddling our thumbs. Pastor Newms: [28:40] Mm hmm. I'm sure. Pastor Bill: [28:42] Yeah. Genesis one-four. Last week we talked about God creating light and we talked about how it was less of the light to exist or light it exists and more of a light recognizing or calling out to the light. But we didn't really talk about it. Why we see it that way. Why we framed it that way. And where that comes from is here in verse five. So God creates the light. We're starting in the second half, of verse four. Yes. Pastor Newms: [29:25] Well, are we going to start in four? Pastor Bill: [29:31] So God sees the light that it's good. And then God separates the light from the darkness. Right. Now the word there is still gods. We're still talking about the plural. We're still using the plural for God, God's. And this word. Separated is. Is two words. It's. It's H914, which is baw-dal' and it is H996, which is bane. Okay. Now, baw-dal' is to distinguish as difference. To look at something and make a judgment and say the light and the darkness, we recognize them as two different things. And then, bane. Make sure I wrote this in my notes right. Pastor Newms: [30:39] Me to read it, have it open. Pastor Bill: [30:42] You don't have my notes open. Pastor Newms: [30:44] No, but I have the thing open. Pastor Bill: [30:49] And H996 is to declare a distinction between the two. Right. So he's making, God's making two statements here. He's declaring them as separate and seeing them as separate. So not only does God look at them and go, Well, you're two separate things, lightness and darkness. We talked about the light. There was that sentience of man. It was enlightenment, it was consciousness. And then that darkness was everything that's dark, right? It was misery and destruction and chaos. And all this stuff. And God is saying, well, these are two separate things. Two very separate things. Now, later. We're actually going to start calling those things good and evil when we get into chapter two. We're going to start using different terms. And the reason for the different terms is that like we talked about before. Genesis originally started with chapter two. And went on. And then when they went into captivity in Babylon, then they added chapter one, incorporating what the Babylonians knew about creation. Including those details into the story there at the beginning. And that's why there's this different viewpoint, different phrases for the same things. So this is the point where God is separating good and evil and saying these are actually separate things. These aren't just, you know, intermingled. And it's all it is what it is. It's not that's not what these things are. There is clearly good and there is clearly evil. And God can do that. Because God can deal in black and white. Pastor Newms, can you deal in black and white? Pastor Newms: [32:57] I like Gray a lot, huh? Pastor Bill: [33:00] I feel like the Sunday school teacher at this point. No, you cannot deal in black and white because you are human. Pastor Newms: [33:04] I like. Yeah, Yeah, I like Gray a lot. Um, I pretty much live in gray. Pastor Bill: [33:09] Yeah. Humans deal in gray. We do not deal in black and white. It is physically impossible for us to deal in black and white. They, God deals in black and white. God deals in pass or fail. So we see this in the character of God. We see this from the very beginning. Later on when we get to the ideas of salvation and we start talking about if you've broken one law, then you've broken all laws. If you're a sinner in one way, then you're a sinner. And always if you don't believe, then you're not saved. And it's a pass or fail. It's a yes or no. It's not a “Well, I was a good person” or “I went to church” or “I gave money to the poor,” and No, no, no. There was one answer. There was one question, and there was one answer. It was black and white. It was yes or no. It was not gray. There was no middle ground. We see that in the nature of God from the very beginning. Light and dark. Good and evil. Pastor Newms: [34:22] Mm hmm. Mm hmm. Pastor Bill: [34:26] That is the nature of God. That doesn't change. It doesn't. God deals. In black and white, right? Now. That's the nature of God. God also exists. In the business of mercy. Which is Jesus. We call that Jesus, right? Pastor Newms: [34:51] Uh huh. Pastor Bill: [34:52] Not just there's black and white. And humans are failing that. And then God goes, and I have an answer for it. And that's God's mercy. That's Jesus. And then Jesus offers salvation. And salvation is still this black and white. But it's being offered. When you haven't earned it, you don't deserve it. You're sitting over in the darkness and it gets off. It's still black and white, right? Impossible. And God says, Ha! But. I am Holy Spirit, too. I am the Comforter. I am the reminder. I can move in your life. And that's where we get that part of God, the Holy Spirit. And that gives us the grace to change. Right? And be worthy of the free gift that Jesus gifts. And we see all of that playing out. In that statement. God separated. The light. From the darkness. And so there's this great poetic thing going on here. And we're seeing the nature of God and we're seeing all this power of God. And we're only four verses in. Pastor Newms: [36:31] Mm hmm. Pastor Bill: [36:31] And this such as deep, deep, deep thing going on here. All right. And then we get to verse five. Okay. Now, you got to remember you're reading a poem. All right. Verse five. Is it? It's basically. I don't really know how to explain it other than to say if you reach out and you grab dough and you go to make a ball of dough and you go like this. And you squeeze that into the dough to make the finish off the ball. Verse five is that it's finishing off the ball of dough for this poem. That's a weird visual, but that's what I'm getting in my head. So. Pastor Newms: [37:22] A. Pastor Bill: [37:24] When you look at verse five. What you're reading is actually telling you what was happening in verses three and four. Okay. So this statement, God called the light day and the darkness he called night. That statement is what actually was seen to happen. And everything before that. This is the explanation of the nuts and bolts. Abatbrain on twitch. My wife says it is a bit odd. My little ball of dough thing. Pastor Newms: [38:11] It is. Pastor Bill: [38:11] But all of my analogies are odd, so I'm not surprised. Okay. So when we get to verse five, we see God and we're using the same still the plural for God's called. All right. And. And called there. We see that as God naming the lights. And it would be if this wasn't a poem. If this wasn't poetic, you know, wordplay. Right. But H7121 called. Which is kaw-raw'. A primitive route rather identical to H7122 through the idea of accosting a person met, to call out to that is properly addressed by name, but used in a wide variety of applications, and then gives you a list in the Strongs of all the different ways it's been translated. So what this is saying, this is actually showing you in verse four when God said, let there be light. That was them describing what God did. But what actually happened? Is God. Called out to or accosted the light by name like we were talking about in the previous episode. What actually happened is, is God went light, but he didn't because that's not the name of light. What is the name of light? The name of light is Yome or what we then call day. So in verse three, when he said, Let there be light. And the poem says, And God, you know, said, Let there be light. It's all wordplay for God addressing accosting, calling out to light as if it existed. And the name that it used for light was Yome. As if when Pastor Newms gives me a phone call. Like I said if it wasn't a weird thing for him to call me because he only calls me in emergencies. If he called me on a regular basis and he's my best friend, I saw his name on the phone. I would pick up the phone. I would go Newms! It's the same thing. God, said Yome. Called out to the light as if it already existed. As if it was an old friend. As if he already knew it. And at that point. It came into existence. It then existed. And then God compared. That, too. What was within himself? And then in verse. What is that verse four? No, where to? Pastor Newms: [41:28] For us. It's good. Pastor Bill: [41:33] Compare that saw. Compare that to what was within himself and declared it good. I see that within myself. That is good, right? And then. He did the same thing for the darkness. And he called the darkness. I think these are three different pronunciations of the same word. I don't think this is the actual word. It says lah'-yil, lale, and lah'-yel-aw. I think those are three diffeerent pronunciations. But he said that. And. And what that means is a twist away from the light or adversity. Right? So he addressed the night, the darkness as adversity, or a twisting away from the light, twisting away from life, twisting away from enlightenment, twisting away from, sentience, and all of that good stuff. The poet wrangles all that together. And says and the evening in the morning were the first day. Hey. God is talking and calls the light day. But it's not the word day. But that is what the humans then later called a day. They use that same word. Right. So we see the poet playing off of that wordplay. And using the word in both places. Because that's what God called it. And then he calls upon that in the same verse and says, Well, the first day. It's a different day. This is a human day now. Right. And we only have an evening and a morning. Because. God. Separated. The light from the darkness. So the poet's working on several levels. Here is the cosmic level where he's talking about good and evil, and then he's using wordplay to relate that to the reader the difference between sunshine and darkness and where those two meet in the evening and the morning. Which is the gray area. Where we live. Where we exist. Right. In that evening and in that morning. That's where we exist. We exist somewhere in between those light, and that darkness. And that was the first day. And so then when we looked back and we were talking about. The first day didn't end until the first day ended. Right. And well, and what we meant by that was we don't know when the first day began. For God, there could have been. Millions and millions of years. We talked about it in the first verse, God created the heavens and the earth we were talking about. That's a hands-on word, hands-on action, where you're building something up, using the baser elements. And we don't know how long in God's perspective that took. But there was no time yet. There was no marking of what we think of as time. There was no turning of day and night in seasons. And so we don't know how long. There was from the moment that God created the heavens and the earth, right? Started that work. The evening and the morning existing. To create the quote-unquote, first day. It's all very deep and very involved. And I encourage everybody to go back and reread those verses. Go back and listen to the first three episodes of season four. And. Let's back up. Now that we know we've worked through the holidays. We're settling down. We're ready to get things going. Make if you're going to make a New Year's resolution, make a resolution to be in. Right. So we say be very in. Because when we go to Acts, we find people fleeing from one place to another. And he goes to a town called Berea, and when he gets to Berea, he starts preaching. And the believers in Berea, not just the believers, but also the. The Jewish men, they refused to believe anything Paul said until they were able to go and find it themselves in the scriptures. They wanted to be able to go and own what Paul was preaching to them or, have grounds to dismiss it. They didn't want to just receive it. And Paul praised them as being more worthy than the highfalutin Jews over in Jewtown. He didn't use those words, but that was the equivalent of what he was saying. You guys are more worthy than the snooty guys over there. That's awesome, guys. Because they refused to believe what he was saying until they proved it for themselves. So if you're going to make a New Year's resolution and the last episode we talked about, a lot of people start in January, they're going to read the whole Bible in a year. And we talked about how I don't recommend that because it loses a lot of that deep study time because people don't read with intention. They read to just I got to get my daily reading done so I can make it through the year. Resolve to be buried. Go back. And look at these verses in the deep poetic terms that they are intended to be. Cross-reference that with the other parts of Scripture. And let what is one of the deepest chapters in the Bible speak to you, and revolutionize the way you think about this Sunday school topic of creation. You know, like it is. So there's so much there. And. Yeah, that's what I had for tonight. Look at that. 7:25. Pastor Newms: [49:22] It means you're 3 minutes early. Pastor Bill: [49:22] But we'll be whittling. Pastor Newms: [49:26] Right. We have 3 minutes to twiddle now. Pastor Bill: [49:29] We don't have to twiddle. We can. Pastor Newms: [49:34] Why are you playing with a grippy thing? Pastor Bill: [49:38] A clamp. It's a clamp. Pastor Newms: [49:40] I know. I forgot what the word clamp was for a minute, but I know its purpose. Pastor Bill: [49:50] Well, I know its purpose. It clamps. Pastor Newms: [49:51] It's one of those it's it's one of those where we weren't clever. Our English definition of explaining things was not clever. What is what does it do? It holds other things. It clamps one thing to another. What are we going to call it? A clamp. Pastor Bill: [50:08] From the clamp. Pastor Newms: [50:12] Let's like, call a vacuum. A vacuum? Why? Because it vacuums. Well, because it creates a. Yeah. Pastor Bill: [50:17] Because it uses a vacuum to suck things. Pastor Newms: [50:21] And. Pastor Bill: [50:25] Yeah. Did you have anything you wanted to add to any of that? Pastor Newms: [50:28] No, I mean, I think. Pastor Bill: [50:30] I didn't really stop and give you time to interject at any point, did I? Pastor Newms: [50:33] I think it's important as we look at these types of things, to think about the fact that, you know, it is not a simple aspect. And so often we look at it as such. And so it's good to take time to dig in and actually understand what the words mean and actually understand what. You know, is being said not just what is written, because it is definitely. English is not as we were just saying, you know clamp is clamp-like if it's not clever it is not pick up the artistry of other languages. Well. Pastor Bill: [51:16] It was clear. Pastor Newms: [51:29] You know, So I think it's one of the reasons why studying is so important. Pastor Bill: [51:35] It's hard enough to understand poetry in English. And then you take some other cultures, poetry, and you translate it to three different languages and then try to transliterate that in English. Pastor Newms: [51:52] It is complicated. Pastor Bill: [51:59] Yeah. All right. This podcast comes out every week on Wednesdays. Wherever you get your podcasts, if you found this, I don't know. Helpful, entertaining, funny, and inspiring. Pastor Newms: [53:29] It's the people that we interact with is more important than the. Pastor Bill: [53:30] You know. Pastor Newms: [53:36] Following, because that's not what's important. Pastor Bill: [53:37] Yeah, I mean, I know, I know. It's important to, you know, get the stuff out there and, and, you know, help people and make a difference in the world, but. You know, I'm not immune to the benefits of. What this does for me. So thank you, sir. For your part in my life. All right. Okay. Pastor Bill: [54:23] And until next time.
Kinder sind was schönes. Kinderkriegen widerrum ist nicht so schön, wie wir am Anfang der 6. Folge HOUSE OF THE DRAGON sehen müssen. The Fingers of Davos continue their coverage of House of the Dragon in Episode 131. With the question of succession (still) looming large, Viserys makes a wedding pact that he hopes will stabilize the kingdom and ensure Rhaenyra's path to rule. Rhaenyra and her new betrothed, Laenor Velaryon make their own plans for happiness, while Alicent, Daemon, and Ser Criston Cole all adjust their behavior and loyalties in response to the union, and to the shifting balance of power. Lastly, the Strongs assert themselves as players in the game as well, showing support for Viserys, but also a penchant for sewing some chaos of their own. In this final episode we will look at Romans 7:13-25, the man who struggles and wars in the flesh against sin. The man who cannot overcome, even though he desperately want to. As we examine scripture we will find out why this person cannot overcome. Why they continue to do evil, but cannot do good. As it turns out this is still the condemned man who is a slave to sin. I you haven't listened to the previous episodes in this series, you will want to as it adds additional background. In summary, Paul is teaching why sin is the cause of a persons death and not the law. He uses the "old man" in this teaching example. The man who is 1) a slave of sin, not free like the man in part 2 who has been spiritually cruicified and baptized, 2) doesn't understand, 3) only does or practices evil, 4) cannot do any good that he wants 5) nothing good dwells within him, only sin; 6) is wretched and condemnedPassages Covered: Romans 7:13-25; Katergazomai [2716] verb-to work out: Romans 2:6-10 (vs 9), 5:3, 7:15, 7:17, 7:18, 7:20, 15:18; 2 Corinthians 7:10; James 1:2-4; Ergazomai [2038b] Verb-to work/produce: Mathew 7:23, John 3:21, Romans 13:10; James 1:20; James 2:9; Prasso [4238] Verb-to do, perform (STRONGs concordance uses the term "practice"; but this is inconsistent with many vs like: Romans 7:15,19; Luke 22:23, 23:41; Acts 5:35, 15:29, 16:28, 19:36 etc) John 3:19-20 (vs20), 5:29, Romans 2:2; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Galatians 5:19-21 (vs21). Philip was supernaturally teleported from the desert to Azotus Acts 8:26Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch. Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place.Philip evangelized this man and he ended up being baptized in water. At the end of the conversation a miracle happened.Acts 8:39-40 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea. What happened to Philip is described by the Greek word harpazo (Strongs #726), which is translated above as “suddenly took”.Philip's sudden departure meant that the Ethiopian was unable to thank or reward Philip for his help. Instead of being occupied with the person God used to assist in his conversion, he was occupied with Christ as “he went on his way rejoicing”, which is much more important than Philip's mode of travel. However this is an amazing miracle of the Spirit of God that “transported” Philip from one place to another.Philip is subject to a sudden disappearance. The language is indicative of a supernatural exit. His instant removal makes clearer still that God is at work. It recalls Jesus' removal in Luke 24:31.Luke 24:30-31 When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. The western translation adds an angel to the story. And when they came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit fell upon the eunuch, but the angel of the Lord caught up Philip...'This type of supernatural transference of a person from one place to another is mentioned elsewhere in antiquity (I Kings 18:12; II Kings 2:16; Bel and the Dragon 36; Fragment Targum on Pentateuch,Genesis 28:10: “as soon as our father Jacob lifted up his feet from Beersheeba to go to Haran, the earth shrank before him and he found himself in Haran”Like Elijah, Philip is moved by God to his next point of ministry (I Kings 18:12, 46; II Kings 2:16).Have you ever arrived at a place without knowing how you got there? Have you ever felt compelled to go somewhere? Is the Holy Spirit guiding your path? This is a public episode. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
In what circumstances do you need to be carried? I think of when I'm hurt or incapacitated -- any time when I can't carry myself. Ellie Holcomb's song "I Will Carry You" led me to consider God's thoughts on why He carries us. Join me in the pages of Scripture to see why God even indicated He would carry us in the first place. How exactly did the Judiazers use to lure the Galatians? With all that the Lord has given us to believe and trust in Him. The Judiazers managed to bring something that the devil himself lured Adam with. An appeal to the flesh. In this action packed episode we will cover exactly how the Judiazers did it. Buckle-up! Oh in this video/podcast the CSB with Strongs is in use. Praise God! Love you,Erick Miller
Today's episode opens with impending doom during a time when everyone did whatever they thought was right in their own head! Ever think life is so hard, and it takes a trun for the worse? Such is the case in the opening of the Book of Ruth. In the first 5 verses of Ruth we meet a family that travels from their homeland to a forgein land in hope of finding a better life. The grass always looks greener on the other side doesn't it? Have your study supplies handy as you listen in:Bible, Digital or PaperNotebook or JournalMarkers (non bleed marker link from Glori Winders, Thanks Glori!)My favorite version of the Bible is the KJV and I will be reading from it, however I will also be referencing other versions. I speak German as well as English and know that sometimes it's difficult to translate words from one language to the next. Since I don't speak Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic, I like to use the KJV with the Strongs concordance to give me better insight to the original words. As we read along, let the Holy Spirit teach your heart. :21 Q & A Section for more info on the Study4:31 Chapter 1 verses 1-5 Blog Worksheet Post for Tragedy & Death Episode 144Thanks for listening to Moments with Moni and please, share it with a friend. In this episode we will look at God's word to better understand what in means to be "Justified" as defined by God. The word justified [Verb, Strongs 1344 - dikaioo] actually means to be righteous. It is the verb form of the noun "righteous" [noun, Strongs 1343 - dikaiosune. As we look at scripture, we will see that first a person must be sanctified or made holy, but receiving the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us a new heart. Remember the bible teach us that everyone is born with a wicked/evil heart. Until we receive a new heart with new thoughts, we are defiled before God. Because sin lives in the heart. We cannot be righteous or live righteously before God until we have been sanctified and received a new heart. Until then, the wicked thoughts that pop into our minds when we face trials continues to defile us. Jesus taught us the one who commits sin is a slave to sin. The remedy is to be sanctified (event) so that we can live live and be righteous (or justified) by the power of the Holy Spirit and the new heart which we have received when we were born again or spiritually baptized. See episode we did on "Sanctification is an event not a process", "God requires a New Heart" and "Romans ch 6 Spiritual Baptism". Many are familiar with the argument of Justified by Faith or Justified by Works of the Law, but do not understand this argument is referring to the process of how someone can get to the point of being righteous or living righteously. First a person must receive the Holy Spirit which can only come by Faith. Then once a person has been changed into the new creation, filled with all the fullness/deity of God; now they can live and produce Spiritual fruit or works of the Spirit (fruit of the Spirit). This will be explained by God's word as we look at different passages. We will look at passages in Mathew, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 Corinthians. Galatians, Titus, 2 Timothy, James, and Revelation.
Just when you thought I couldn't talk about the Strongs anymore if I tried, I found another! A surprising, previously unknown member of ancient House Strong that seemingly appeared from nowhere. And curiously about the size of the false knight, Ser Gregor Clegane. Sure there's no coincidence there. 0 (1s): Good morning, 1 (3s): Sorry. We're like we have people tuning in all over the world, you know? So we have to, I have to start at the right time when the, you know, when the camera goes, it's like, I feel like I'm on, I mean, like a, like a news studio or something, you know, they're like, they're like, you're on good morning. Welcome to harvest church. Thank you for joining us. Whether you're on campus in the sanctuary on the loft. I mean, in the lawn outside, we're just glad you're here tuning in on the live stream. We're going to, I'm going to open with a word of prayer for the service this morning, dear God. Thank you so much for just every blessing you've blessed us with. Thank you for being so faithful to show up. When we, when we invite you, when we become aware of you. And so this morning, I just declare that we're just going to stop and become aware of you more in this space this morning. 1 (49s): We're going to, I'm going to, like, I just asked to help us lay down what we have maybe burdens or just things we're thinking about, worried about are things of life and just lay them at the, at the foot of the cross this morning. And just, we're just going to exalt your name God. So I just ask you to move in us this morning and, and just show us something of something more of you this morning in Jesus name, please stand. We're going to sing a little bit of maybe a new song to the, to the church this morning. It's if you're not quite awake yet, you might be more by the finish of the song. 0 (1m 35s): I was shame who could carry that weight? It was, I was breathing, but not too high. 0 (2m 17s): It was fine. 0 (2m 21s): 2 (4m 12s): I needed rescue. My siblings had shades spray Catherine way to your hours. And you call me 0 (4m 29s): . 0 (5m 56s): He brought me no way I don't always get to see. 0 (13m 7s): I won't believe it feel like we all have kind of just be with God kind of reflect. 0 (18m 51s): 2 (19m 33s): Good. 0 (19m 34s): 2 (20m 17s): Smell. You make giants fall. You use balls. I went in to speak to my feed. I will preach your mind. You will face full that you will be faithful that 0 (21m 16s): I just want to speak right now too. Like, I just feel like some, even I question it sometimes like, Oh my gosh, it just feels like God's letting me down. It's like you say, he's faithful. You say that like, he's good, but I can't see it. And it's like, that's valid sometimes, but I just pray right now that God would just remind you if you're feeling that this morning that he is there and he understands what's going on because he's good all the time. 0 (22m 18s): So to encourage you guys now to it's a good time to turn around and encourage someone, let the overflow just like smiles and hug someone. If you're comfortable with that, maybe give high fives, fist bumps, introduce yourself to someone. 3 (22m 38s): So my wife threw a birthday, a surprise birthday for me a few years ago and, and she just completely pulled off. It was a complete surprise. So what she did is she sent me away to some friends for the weekend and we went out to Owens Valley and did some fly fishing, some adventuring, some just getting out in the country. It was a great time. And as I came back in, she sent me a text and such, she said, Hey, meet me at Manning park, up above Carpentaria. We were living in, in Santa Barbara at the time. And so I said, okay, I'm sorry. So Paul I'm pulling into meaning park. If you've ever been there, it's just this gorgeous park. It's surrounded by some Hills with Oak beautiful Oak trees. And as you pull into the park, there's this big grass field. And I just remember seeing kids playing out there and there's a jungle gym and there's families with around the barbecues. 3 (23m 22s): And as I pulled up to the site where my wife had said to meet her, I realized that like 30 to 40 of my friends were there. And it was just, you know, as I was walking up, I was just, it was, it was a super emotional moment because it just had that feeling of like, this is what heaven's going to be. Like. Some people hadn't seen in years, some, some, just some of my best friends in life, my wife, my kids, it was just an time. And I wonder if that's not what heaven's going to be like when we walk into the Gates and just, wow. Look at all the friends and family. And I hope that's what church is like for you. You know, like when I get just a taste of heaven each morning, I get to see each of your faces and just, we just gather up together. I hope you have that, that, that feeling of, of just companionship and friendship here at harvest. 3 (24m 5s): So we just want to say welcome. And if you, I haven't connected with us yet, feel free to go over to the info center and find out what's going on, how you can get plugged in, just do the things that are going on with that said, we've got a big thing going on and that's April 4th for celebrating Easter service. So we've got handouts here, some flyers that you can take to your friends and family and pass out and invite people to our service. It's going to be April 4th, it's one services, 10:00 AM. And it's going to be in our upper parking lot. So there's plenty of ways to get to, to help out with that. There's going to be plenty of stuff set up and clean up afterwards. So please feel free to say, sign up for that. 3 (24m 45s): Volunteer your time. Also, if you'd like to be baptized during this service, we'll be having the baptisms. It's gonna be a sweat special time. And a there's gonna be a class next week at 9:00 AM during, during this first service. So we'll have a baptism class, just go through the basics of what is baptism. Why do we do it? And so that's next week, but, but we definitely need some filled eggs. And I want to emphasize the filled eggs, right? Put some where they say wrap some can wrap candy stickers, small toys inside the eggs. It was by March 28th. So filled eggs. Feel free to drop those off for the church office or the info center. 3 (25m 25s): Oh man, we got some exciting things this week. We've got, starting up tomorrow night and that is men six or men Mondays at six. Okay. And then on men, on men, on Mondays eating meat at six. Okay. So that is tomorrow night at 6:00 PM at thousand Hills ranch. And it's a free dinner worship testimonies. And they say to bring a friend, there's no sign of necessarily just show up. And also this week is exciting that we're starting our journey groups or men's journey groups. So there's a couple this week that you can join in, find out what's going on. Those will be at six 30 Wednesday in the morning, 6:30 PM. 3 (26m 5s): And then Friday is 6:00 AM. And so you can find out more about the, about those at the info center, but this one kind of just, there's no commitment this week. It's come find out what journey groups all about and how, and what do we like to plug in and make that commitment. So that's this week, lastly, we have the college and young professionals scavenger hunt that is this Saturday, March 20th. It'll be from four to six 30. And that the cost is $12. And the age range they said is from 18 to 40. And yes, they will be checking IDs at the door. So 18 to 40, 41. I don't, I can't, I won't make, take it in. So head to the events page and to find out more 4 (26m 44s): About that and to fill, get the information. That's all I got. Thank you. 5 (26m 51s): Match today. Ooh. Yeah. Same glasses, same basic frame. 4 (27m 2s): He's wearing his trucks today though. And I didn't wear my chucks. How many, know what? Chucks are? A few of us don't okay, good. Good, good. How many have chucks? How many again? How many objects? So there's five of us that are cool, right 5 (27m 17s): On brain. Right? 4 (27m 19s): Just kidding. You're cool to you in your own little way, in your own special little way. How many, remember the time change? Yeah, no. I stayed up all night waiting for the sun to come up with the new time change and everything. And then finally it dawned on me. Finally, it dawned on me that it was a joke. Did you guys catch the joke? So I was up all night waiting for the sun to come up and then finally it dawned on me. Wasn't any funny or the second time As an Andy funnier the second time, I'm trying to get my, my sermon to come up here. So I'm telling bad jokes. There it is. 4 (27m 59s): There we go. So we're, we're in a second Timothy chapter two, the first Timothy chapter two, let's go out and stand up. I'm going to, we're going to pray cause we really need to pray because this is the topic of the message today. The role of women in the church. Isn't that just isn't that like warm and fuzzy. Just make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Not me either. I love the topic, but it's, it's so polarizing. It's so, so interesting. It's kind of like talking about Calvinism versus Arminianism pre-trip post-trip mid trip, pantry ribs stuff, whether it gives, have a C since the first century or whether gifts are still for today, all of these topics. 4 (28m 42s): So what w what I find is that the church before we pray real quick, little pre-storm and sermon at here, I find is the church that we battle inward internally about all these kinds of silly things. And I think when we get to heaven, we're going to laugh about the things that we battled over here in the earth. And so, so some of you are going to agree with me today. Some are going to disagree. It's okay. It's okay. You can be wrong. And that was, that was an attempt at a joke as well. So instead of jokes, I'm just going to pray, and then I'm going to teach the Bible. How's that? I'll stick with 5 (29m 21s): That. Thank 4 (29m 23s): You, Lord. As we stand, we stand to honor you Lord, and we, we really want to hear from you today. So I pray that you would speak through me and through your word and through the power of your Holy spirit, doing what you do best instructing us, informing us and helping us to know what your will is. So bless us as we do. We pray in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. So I don't know if it was this topic or just the time change, but I, last night I was, I set my clock and I'm in the bedroom and then went to bed and I woke up and I, the clock said 6:00 AM, but I went into the living room to get coffee and the coffee hadn't brewed yet. 4 (30m 5s): So I'm like, something's up. And so I look at the other clocks and they say 5:00 AM. So I dunno if I set my clock and then it set itself again, you know, some locks are smart clocks and they can set themselves well, this is a new clock. So it might be a smart clock. I wake up at 5:00 AM and then I realize, or I re I think it's six, but it's five. So then I crawl on the sofa with my pillow and I'd go back to sleep for about 45 minutes, and then I'd get up and I drank coffee and I've worked on my sermon a little bit more. And then about seven 30 or so, like, it's almost time to leave for church, but I told Jolene, I said, I'm going to lie back down for another 30 minutes. So I was cold. So I got my blanket and I got on the bed and I went back to sleep for about 30, 30 minutes. 4 (30m 45s): And then finally we're here. So it's been kind of a full day, already, lots of naps and lots of all kinds of stuff. So it's good. And then I'm going to go home and watch the players championship after this. So it should be really good. Hey, we're in first Timothy chapter two, verses eight through 15, the role of women in the church, verse eight in every place of worship. I want men and that word in the Greek is a Nair and it actually means men. And so we're going to see a difference between men and women in this texts. This first portion is speaking to men. Men were called to lead spiritually, and it says, I want men to pray with Holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy. 4 (31m 28s): So it's a challenge from the apostle for men to come into a place of worship. And we can do this as we gather corporately, or quite honestly, it's, it's just effective. You have to do it when you, when you're all by yourself, just taking the time to lift it Holy hands. And it says, lift up Holy hands, because it's like when we're told to come and worship with, with, with what's the words worship in spirit and in truth, not my notes. So I'm trying to pull it out here, worship the Lord in spirit. And in truth, the Lord wants something of honesty from his worshipers. And so when we come and lift up, Holy hands, it's a time to do an inventory and say, Lord, what is going on internally with me? 4 (32m 11s): Is there anything of anger and controversy? Another translation says wrath or doubting. Is there anything happening internally that I need to deal with? It's kind of like what we talk about when we do communion, I always invite people to take a personal inventory of your lives. And before we take the bread and the cup, we take that inventory so that we can confess our sins so that we can be refreshed in the spirit of God and the grace God, and the love of God. And it powerful things happen as a result of that. So Paul's saying, I want men to lift up Holy hands. And then women following that example, lifting up Holy hands, without anger, free from anger and controversy. 4 (32m 55s): Sometimes we show up and we've got anger. We've got an angst in our soul, and God is giving us this opportunity, this invitation to just let all that stuff go, just to let it go and say, Lord, I don't want to be angry. And maybe you're thinking about somebody right now, and you're having the opportunity to in your soul. Say, Lord, I don't want to be angry with this person. I don't want to be mixed up in controversy. I don't want wrath and doubting in my soul Lord. I want to just be free in Jesus name to worship. And so that's what Paul is talking to us about. Paul Ron talked in the first part of this chapter about prayer. And so we just kind of continue with that theme. And every place I want men to pray with, Holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy. 4 (33m 37s): And I want women that word is speaking about women. That Greek word is G Y N E. And Paul is speaking to women and he gives some specific direction here. He says, I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves, by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes for women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. You're thinking myself, well, maybe you're a woman here. And you say, I've got gold pearls and expensive clothes on. 4 (34m 17s): I just want to let you off the hook there. A lot of what we're going to be reading about in this text is cultural, but the truth is the same. And it's true for men as well. We need to be careful that we're not spending so much time on the externals that we're neglecting the internal. So we bought this house next door, this old 1865 house that is now the church office. And when we bought the house without doing a lot of investigative work, we, we thought, man, we can probably just slap a coat of paint on this place and do some cosmetic stuff than it would be awesome through and through, you know, and then we get working on the place and we realize that as we're stripping wallpaper, as we're working on floors, as we're doing cabinets and all this stuff, we're trying to clean things up and put a, it was kind, kinda like trying to put lipstick on a pig. 4 (35m 4s): It was this ugly building that we're trying to just kind of clean up with a little bit of cosmetics. And we realized that there were so much more wrong with the house that if we didn't deal with it, the place was going to be falling around us, falling down around us over time. So we ended up putting in new floors, new interior doors, new windows, a new dry wall, new insulation, new heating, air conditioning, electrical plumbing roof. We pretty much check it all the way down to the studs, pretty much everywhere and re every dentist. And now when you walk in, man, it's beautiful through and through. It's got the paint, but it's also got all of the new stuff inside. 4 (35m 48s): I think God challenges us to do the same thing in our own lives. Sometimes we can show up to church or show up in our life and we look good on the outward, but man, there's just stuff going on inside. And God is giving us an opportunity again, to just look at those things and do some business with him because he can heal us. He can minister to us, he can set us free. He can do what only he can do in our lives, making us beautiful through and through. So this is what, this is what Paul's talking about. When he writes about the church, we have this opportunity to look internally, to think internally and to worship out of that and to present to the Lord. 4 (36m 32s): Something that is beautiful through and through now, as we get to verses 11 to 12, we get to look at the hard portions of this text. It's the most popular portion of scripture in the Bible. It says this women should learn quietly and submissively. I do not let women teach men or have authority over them, or you serve their authority. Let them listen quietly so we can stop and, you know, ask ourselves some questions about this text. And Paul actually says something very similar in first Corinthians chapter 14, in that he says, if a woman has questions, she should ask her husband when she gets home. 4 (37m 18s): And so in, in the first century, when this was written and when this was first proclaimed, women were for the most part uneducated, they couldn't read, they couldn't write. They were essentially the property of their fathers. And then they became the property of their husbands. In fact, unmarried women needed to ask permission before they could, even from their fathers before they could even leave the house and married women needed to ask permission of their husbands to leave the house. They were normally restricted to roles of little or no authority. They could not testify in court. 4 (37m 60s): They could not appear in public venues. They were not allowed to talk to strangers and they had to be doubly veiled. When they left their houses, women should learn quietly and said, mischievously, I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. There's a reason that Paul communicated what he communicated in that culture. The culture has changed. And now we can probably dismiss a lot of the Bible by saying that was cultural, but the way he differentiate the two is you say, okay, is this truth that we're reading? Is it portrayed throughout all of scripture in the old and new Testament? Is this something that we see consistently throughout the scripture? 4 (38m 42s): Or is this a specific instance or one of a couple specific instances? And then you do your due diligence with X's Jesus there and decided by God's grace through the rest of the scripture, as you allow scripture to interpret scripture, then you decide what is cultural and what is timeless first 13 we'll look, we'll read verses 13, 14, 15 comment on those quickly. And then we'll jump back to our favorite verses number of verses 11 and 12, and just kind of unpack those for the rest of the service. And again, so this is a primarily a teaching today. It's not a, so I'm going to be reading a lot, reading a lot of verses, a lot of commentary. 4 (39m 24s): And so it's not my typical style of maybe more preaching than teaching. I'd try to do a blend, but today is mostly just teaching. It's mostly just teaching what I feel like the Lord has given us to understand today for Adam verse 13 says for Adam, for God made Adam first and afterward, he made Eve and it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived and sin was the results, but we see in Romans five, 12, Paul wrote something else. We can read the scripture real quick. We can read the scripture and see and conclude that Paul was a chauvinist, a male chauvinist pig, right? Based on what he wrote here and what he wrote in first Corinthians chapter 14, we can say Paul was a chauvinist. 4 (40m 10s): But the reality is, is that Paul recognized the value of women. As you read Romans 16, you see that Paul declares just the help that women gave to him and th the help that they were to his life in ministry. And then we're going to read through the old and the new Testament, see how God specifically worked through women in powerful and important ways. Romans five 12 says when Adam sinned sin entered the world, Adam's sin brought death. So death spread to everyone for everyone sinned. And so there's this, you know, topic of deception. 4 (40m 50s): And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived and sin was the result. The truth is if Adam was doing his job, there wouldn't have been that problem. If Adam was doing his job as a spiritual leader of his home, there wouldn't have been that problem. And so in Romans five, Paul actually makes Adam responsible for the sin that entered into the world. And then we get to verse 15. It's a difficult verse. One that I have still, somebody tried to give me their perspective on this verse this morning. And it still doesn't make any sense to me, but it says this, but women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, holiness, and modesty. 4 (41m 35s): So it's a difficult verse. What does that even mean? Women will be saved through childbearing. Well, first of all, we need to understand theologically that nobody has saved through any works, especially childbearing nobody's saved through childbearing. And so what is the apostle Paul mean? Somebody told me this morning that they think that Paul was affirming the position of women or the role of women in the family, because they weren't able to go on missionary journeys with Paul. So he was affirming them in their role as women who brought forth children and, and that important role that women still have today. So maybe that's possible. Maybe this verse is pointing prophetically toward or historically toward the price child who was born to bear the sins of the world. 4 (42m 28s): Maybe, maybe it's not about salvation at all, verse 15, but the woman, but women will be saved. Maybe there's talking about physically, they're going to be saved through childbearing. It was a dangerous thing like it is now, but it was dangerous, especially back then for women to give birth. And often there would be complications and the woman would lose her life. So maybe it's a promise to women. Women will be saved physically through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness and modesty. We're not really sure. And it's one of those things that God will make clear to us when we get to heaven. So let's move forward back to our favorite verses. 4 (43m 9s): First Timothy chapter two, verses 11 and 12 women should learn quietly and submissively. I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. You think this is a forever expectation. I don't think it is. I believe it's purely cultural for the time. And I, I believe the scripture spells that out and kind of back set up when Christ came, a part of his ministry was the liberation and the elevation of women in the world, but also in the church under his leadership, things began to change. 4 (43m 51s): And we're going to kind of look at a couple of those things. In fact, we see, as we read the gospels, that women were constantly part of the ministry of Christ and they were constantly a part of the way, the ministry of the apostle Paul. It was women who first declared that Jesus just had resurrected from the dead. It was women that Jesus trusted that revelation. Now that bedrock truth, that bedrock truth or faith, it was women who first proclaimed that to the others and Matthew 28, 10. Then Jesus said to them, to Mary Magdalene and to the other Mary don't be afraid. Go tell brothers to leave for Galilee. 4 (44m 34s): And they will see me there. In other words, I'm alive. I've resurrected from the dead. I, I am who I say I am. I've done what I said, what happened? He said that he would die on the third day. He would resurrect from the dead and he's telling the Mary's to go and declare that that is actually happened. It was the women who demonstrated faith and faithfulness to Jesus, even when he was dying on the cross. A lot of his disciples, a lot of disciples of God, of Jesus scattered. When he got arrested, Peter denied that he knew him a lot, scattered all four gospels record that record the women who followed Jesus. 4 (45m 16s): They watched the crucifixion from a distance and it was the women who were ready after the Sabbath to anoint Jesus' body for burial. So it was the women who remain faithful, even though they probably didn't understand what was going on, even though Jesus declared it to be. So it was a confusing time for Jesus' followers because they, they believe that he was the Messiah and that he would be the King who would deliver Israel and, and establish his kingdom here in the earth. And so when he got arrested and then crucified and then buried, there were some confusion there, but these women stayed true to their faith in Jesus, Matthew 15, 40 and 41. It says some women were there watching from a distance, including Mary Magdalen at his crucifixion, Mary, the mother of James, the younger and a Joseph and Solomon. 4 (46m 5s): They had been followers of Jesus and had cared for him while he was in Galilee. Many other women who had come with him to Jerusalem were also there. And in Matthew 16 one, it says Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James and Sala may went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus' body. So they were faithful to him even to death. And so imagine their joy when he was resurrected from the dead. So from the scripture, from the scripture, how do we see women being used while we see women teaching men in acts chapter 18 with Priscilla and Aquilla instructing Apollo. 4 (46m 51s): So I'll read that in acts 1824 through 26, it says now a Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man came to emphasis and he was mighty in the scriptures. This man had been, this man had been instructed in the way of the Lord and being forgiven in spirit. He was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John. And he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquilla heard him, husband and wife, when they heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God, more accurately. 4 (47m 36s): So in this case, we see a husband and wife, fave, and Priscilla is named first Priscilla. And Aquilla heard him. They took him aside and explained to him the way of God, more accurately. See? So we see women teaching men. We see women participating in the ministry with the apostle Paul. I mentioned Romans 16, verses one. And two says this. I commend to you, our sister, Phoebe, who is a deacon in the church of Saint Korea. Welcome her. And the Lord is one who is worthy of honor among God's people help her in whatever she needs for. She has been helpful to many and especially to me. 4 (48m 18s): So that word deacon means minister. It means servant. We're going to see that it actually, according to Strongs, it means teacher or pasture as well. And we'll look at that here in just a moment. So Romans 16 one, I commend to you, our sister, Phoebe, a servant of church of the church in St. Korea. So again, that word deacon means it can mean servant or it can be minister. And we see both in the next couple of verses first Corinthians three, five says this, what then is Apollos? What is Paul y'all can us servants? 4 (49m 1s): That's the word through whom you believed as the Lord assigned to each? So in that verse, Paul and Apollos are called servants. It's the same word. it? Just to be it just translated servants there in Colossians one 23. It says, if indeed you continue in the faith stable and said fast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven. And of which I, Paul became a Deaconess. That's the Greek word, but it's translated minister there. So that same word can be translated. Minister can be translated servant. 4 (49m 43s): And we see we're going to actually look at the qualifications of deacons here next week or in the next couple of weeks. And we'll go from there. Strong's Greek lexicon defines for us this word, deacon, Deaconess. I thought we were going to have the slide up there, but it's not up there. So I'll just read it to you a little hard to follow me, reading it to you. But this is what it says, probably from an obsolete docto to run on errands and attendant I E genitive case a waiter table, a waiter at a table or in other menial duties. 4 (50m 24s): So that's, you know, speaking of servant, but then it says specially a Christian teacher and pastor technically a deacon or Deaconess. And so it says, it means deacon minister servant, but also teacher, pastor. And so that's pretty interesting as we look at that. So deacon means minister servant, and according to strongest Christian teacher or pastor, we only see the word pastor once in the whole Bible, we, the, the word is poor main, and we see it translated once in the scripture pasture, wherever else it's used in the new Testament, it's translated shepherd. 4 (51m 6s): And so we only see the word pastor using Ephesians four 11. So I'll read Ephesians four, 11 and 12. It says this. Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church, the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers, their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. And so we see that word, pastor being used here, and it's in the context of gifts that Christ gave the church. Now, these are the gifts that Christ gave the church, the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors, and the teachers. And so if we look at these gifts, these, these five things as spiritual gifts, like we would look at the gift of hospitality, the gift of leadership, other gifts that are mentioned in Romans chapter 12 and in first Corinthians chapter 12, there are no, there are actually no qualifications for this gift of pastor. 4 (52m 3s): Now we use pastor in the Western church, maybe in the, in the world, pretty loosely. And it, we think that pastor is kind of interchangeable with elder or overseer, but there are actually all different words in the Greek. And so there are definitely qualifications for elders and overseers and deacons. And we're going to get to that as we read first, Timothy chapter three and following, and as we get into Titus, and as we get into first, Peter, there are qualifications and expectations, but there don't seem to be qualifications and expectations for this, this gift of pastor. And so this girl, Phoebe is based on the word could possibly have been some kind of a minister where it's a bit of a guessing game, but, but it's not too much of a stretch to think that she could have been some kind of a administer. 4 (53m 1s): And we're all called to be ministers within the body of Christ. I'm called to minister to you. You're called to minister to me, we're called to minister to one to another. So we have this responsibility to serve one another. And there's no hierarchy within the body of Christ, meaning that we never graduate out of this place of being a minister where we're serving. Jesus said I didn't come to be served, but to serve and give my life as a ransom for many. So we're all in this role, in this room, having this responsibility to serve and minister to one another. So we see women teaching men, we see women deacons, which based on what I've said and what we studied so far has imply maybe far farther reaching implications than what we may have thought prior to this. 4 (53m 48s): And we see women profits, we see women profits in the old Testament and we see women profits in the new Testament. So we're going to answer the question, what is a prophet and how many women prophets prophesied in the Bible. And so we're going to kind of look at some things. So what does a profit profits where God's authorized, spoke persons, both women and men communicated God's direct revelation to designated peoples. So we see that in old Testament, new Testament, and he instructed his people to listen to the profits he raised up. And we see that in Deuteronomy chapter 18, verses 15 verse 15. I'm going to mention some verses that aren't going to be on the screen because we don't have enough time to go over all the verses. 4 (54m 30s): But if you want to go back and re-listen to the message@aguharvest.org and check the verses out, please do so sometimes times profits preface their message with this. Well, the Lord says, or thus sayeth the Lord. So they were a voice speaking for the Lord at times, singing and musical instrumentation accompanied the minutes history of prophecy. We see that in first Chronicles, 25 verses one through seven, some profits were called to deliver specific messages and other instances of profit, deliberate, Avery Buke for disobedience and encouragement. Okay. 4 (55m 9s): Prediction as a reminder of God's covenant with his people or specific instruction for caring the message from God, how does God communicate with profits in a very, very, very different ways. God communicated to his profits through right. Various methods. Moses was unique in that he had the privilege of speaking God to God face to face, but that wasn't common, but we read about it. Numbers chapter 12, verses six through eight. It says, listen, to my words, there is a prophet among you. I, the Lord reveal myself to them. Yeah, envisions. I speak to them in dreams, but this is not true of my servant. 4 (55m 49s): Moses. He is faithful in all my house with him. I speak faith to face clearly and not in riddles. He sees the form of the Lord. So that was a specific instance with Moses. But most often profits receive God's message by less direct means. They received messages in the form of visions and dreams and vivid imagery and audible voices and inaudible internal voices by the supernatural opening of their eyes to see unseen things. We read about that in the scripture, through an angelic messenger or through symbolic actions. 4 (56m 29s): So did women prophesied? Yes. Men delivered the majority of scriptural prophecies. Yet God also called women to receive and proclaim his message throughout the Bible are instances where women prophets prophesied in the Bible. They spoke the word of the Lord to others on the day of Pentecost, the Holy spirit was poured out on both women and men at that time, Peter, one of the 12 disciples echoed this prophecy of Joel two 18. I will pour out my spirit on all people, your sons and daughters will prophesy. And your young men will dream see dreams. And that sort of thing acts chapter two, verses 17 and 18 and ancient Neary scholar notes. 4 (57m 16s): The fact that certain biblical texts presuppose that there were women profits. There can be no debate. There were women profits in ancient Israel and an early Christianity. And the term that is used in Hebrew and in Greek for women profits is the same as the term used for men profits. With the, the only difference being the marker of gender, that is the linguistic component of these ancient languages, Dr. Christopher Rolston wrote. So who are the, some of the named women profits in the old Testament? Well, there's Miriam. You see that in Micah chapter six, verse four, exit is 15, 20 and 21, Deborah judges, four and five. 4 (57m 59s): And Holda second Kings 22, 14 through 20. There are also women profits in the new Testament. There was Anna Anna, Luke, two 36 through 38, a prophet in the temple court worshiped a night and day fasting and praying. She was a widow after Simeon spoke and a prophesied over the baby Jesus, to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. Other new Testament references to prophesizing women, including include actually Mary, the mother of Jesus. She sang a song of praise and a response to her relative Elisabeth's spirit-filled declaration of blessings. Mary's prophetic song of praise is often called the Magnificant, the Magnificant. 4 (58m 44s): And so we see that song that she sang. It was, it was a prophetic song that the Lord had given to her. Peter quoted Joel and your sons and your daughters will prophesy acts two 17. I just mentioned that Luke's reference to your, to the four unmarried daughters who prophesied they were the daughters of Philip the evangelist. And so there's plenty of examples in the scripture that identifies women who were prophets Paul's letter to the church at Corinth, in what you described, any woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered, he's identifying women who were praying or prophesying correcting their uncovered heads. He didn't correct them and say, you shouldn't pray or prophesy. 4 (59m 26s): And this was in a public gathering. He said, if you're going to do it culturally, they sh their heads should be covered. So we asked the question is prophecy also teaching will, prophecy is a gift from the Holy spirit. Paul wrote fall in the way of love and eagerly desire, gifts of the spirit, especially prophecy first Corinthians 14 one. So again, did, did those who prophesied also teach? I think they did. Paul clearly described teachers as distinct from profits, but I think there was an element of teaching and the prophetic gift. He described tangible ways. People spiritually grow through prophetic words, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening and encouraging and comfort. 4 (1h 0m 9s): First Corinthians 14 three, and the one who prophesies edifies the church first Corinthians 14, four. Also Paul encouraged prophecy in an orderly manner so that everyone may be instructed and encourage first Corinthians 1431. So it truly seems that the prophetic message included elements of teaching. And so we see God using women in the, in the Bible, the new Testament within his kingdom work to do profound and wonderful things. We're seeing God do amazing things. And so I just want to want to dip, put that out there for a couple of reasons. 4 (1h 0m 50s): Number one, I think we've been vague as a church about our position with women in the ministry. We've been a little bit vague. And, and so I wanted to be, I wanted to kind of remove the veil from that. We're going to be talking more about church leadership. As we look at chapter three, as we look at elders and overseers and deacons and that sort of thing, we'll unpack that some more there's actually qualifications for those offices. Things that we consider offices that aren't spiritual gifts, necessarily the people working in those offices have been given spiritual gifts to work in those offices. But when we're talking about the spiritual gifts that God gives to his church, we're talking about things that God gives without consideration of gender or anything else. 4 (1h 1m 37s): God just gives gifts to his church. So we're seeing God work mightily. And so I want to encourage women in the church to believe that God has gifted you, that he's given you spiritual gifts to be used within the body of Christ. Use them with all of the grace and strength that God has given you to use those spiritual gifts. You've got plenty of women in the church who are teachers. They teach biblical truth. We've got plenty of female teachers who teach Bible studies and Sunday school and, and all kinds of stuff. So we still believe that there's an, an order of things within the family. 4 (1h 2m 21s): I think God's clearly, and we can talk about this as the weeks go on. But clearly men he's placed men as the authority in the home, the spiritual authority of the home. And I think he's placed men as the spiritual authority in the church as well, but it's all to be, not to be lorded over anybody, but just as a means of structure and organizing things. And so I'm a little hesitant about opening things up for questions, but I feel like maybe it's a good idea to open things up for questions. I don't normally do this and maybe I'm going to get myself into trouble, but I want to give you a chance to, to ask questions. And so I'm going to use Tim's Mike, and as we do this, I'm going to invite the worship team to come forward. 4 (1h 3m 6s): But if you have questions, I want to get it on, on the mic so that everybody can hear you who are meeting outsider in the loft. So anybody disagree with me that would like to ask questions, anybody wholeheartedly agree with me that would like to comment anything in between. I'm open really? All right. I'm not going to labor it. Good. You can ask me questions afterward as well. Let's go ahead and stand up and you do have questions. Oh, Gina. Yeah, for sure. For sure. Lord. 4 (1h 3m 46s): Thank you for the opportunity to gather and to open up your word. I pray that you would just continue to lead us in all truth with all grace. We love you. Lord. Be glorified in our lives. We pray in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. 0 (1h 4m 45s): No, the way, when was a close look at the space between where you used to be. I know I'm never be, you know, standing next to me, 2 (1h 5m 21s): Man said there is a cross 0 (1h 5m 25s): 2 (1h 5m 54s): 0 (1h 6m 1s): Yeah. 2 (1h 6m 1s): The space between and the spending 0 (1h 6m 14s): 2 (1h 7m 55s): Snow, but the name that is he who was and still is and be through it. 0 (1h 8m 8s): Okay. 2 (1h 8m 10s): And the space between all the things that see, and this record, the no, 0 (1h 8m 17s): Never be no, I want them to be feed bad. 0 (1h 9m 59s): No, that's the joy she's asked, blah, blah . 0 (1h 13m 18s): And before we say 2 (1h 15m 6s): Thank you God. So much for meeting us here this morning, gracing us with the presence that we actually are going to carry with us as we leave Lord. So I just pray that you just be alive in us more as we leave than when we came even Jesus name. Amen. Thank you guys. See you next week.

The book of Philippians is often noted for its expressions of joy. What is the relationship between contentment and joy? Thank you, worship team, thank you, John. I just underline what John said about praying for the pastoral search team. If you're not aware of this, they are doing their first interview, a video interview of one of the candidates that they're taking a very close look at. They're doing that today at 3:00 p.m. and I know they'd covet your prayers. You pray for them, for wisdom, for discernment, just to hear the Spirit's leading even as they go through this season of very intense interviewing. Now, three o'clock today, if you want to mark that for prayer, if you have your Bible and I hope that you do either in print or on your phone, I invite you to open to Philippians chapter four, the Apostle Paul's letter to the Philippians. We are this month. looking at the Christian virtue of joy, that aspect of the fruit of the spirit that is to be growing in the life of a genuine believer. This is something the Holy Spirit blossoms as we come to Christ and begins to grow and mature and ripen. Philippians out of really any book in the Bible, particularly the New Testament, is the book that stands out as the book known for Joy. 16 times in the Book of Philippians either the word the noun form joy or the verb form rejoice is used by Paul sprinkled all through the four chapters of this letter. And I think it's particularly noteworthy that that three times he gives an actual exhortation. Actually, that's probably not strong enough. He gives a command. Rejoice in the Lord. In fact, the one you see up on the screen there, verse four, is is really a double command. Rejoice in the Lord. Again, I say rejoice. That word rejoice - the Greek word that Paul uses there - it literally means to be glad. It means to be delighted. Now, I wonder is if you think back about the last 12 months, I wonder if you feel some dissonance with us talking about Joy this month. I don't know if you realize it, but almost a year ago, I think it was March 10th or 11th. That's in 2020. That's when kind of all the restrictions of this pandemic came down around us. Think of all that you have walked through, all that we have walked through, all that people that you love have walked through and suffered and loss in the last 12 months. Does that stir up joy in you? Does that stir up being glad and being delighted? Think about our nation has gone through our world, but in particular our nation, with its unrest and its division, the lack of unity that we've seen not only in our nation, but even in the church. Does that stir up that sense of being glad, being delighted? You know, there's a real dissonance, at least that I feel in talking about joy. This again, this would not have been a topic that I naturally in my flesh would have picked. Maybe that's particularly why we need to focus on this virtue of joy this month. The source of joy, when we think about the last 12 months, if we root the source of our joy in our external circumstances, we are going to think about what we've lost and what we've suffered and what we've sacrificed. There isn't going to be that sense of being glad or being delighted. But here's the truth. Here's the truth of scripture. The source of this kind of joy that Paul is talking about, that God is speaking to us about through the apostle Paul. It is not rooted in external circumstances. In fact, even as we look at the context in which Paul writes this letter, Paul, whether you realize it or not, Paul is in prison writing this letter. It's probably prison in Ephesus. We have some evidence he is chained on either side to a Roman guard. He doesn't have his liberty. Do you think we were locked down over the last 12 months? He is ultimately locked down. You think that we have been cut off from from our friends and and Christian brothers and sisters and been denied having fellowship over the last 12 months? He is in a prison cell cut off from his friends and his brothers and sisters in Christ. That's where he is when he's writing these words, that is the situation, the external circumstances of his life as he is calling us to rejoice in the Lord. So we need to hear that command, that exhortation to rejoice in the Lord in a different way than we maybe naturally think about it. I like what A.W. Pink has to say about this command to rejoice in the Lord. A.W. Pink is a devotional writer in England in the 20th century. He writes this about that command Rejoice in the Lord. Does this mean that the Christian, as always, to be happy? No, he says it is actually the very reverse, it is because the Christian finds so much in himself and in what is going on around him to sadden him that he is directed to look above, look above and rejoice not in circumstances. Rejoice in the Lord. He concludes, We are not called to rejoice in our own experiences or our own circumstances, but in the Lord. And more on how we do that a little bit later. Let's look at our particular text this morning. I'm looking at kind of some of the closing verses in Chapter four, beginning with verse 10. In verse 10 Paul writes this - It's kind of the thank you note on the end of this letter. I'll explain that in a minute - "I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last you have renewed your care and your concern for me." So a little background. We learn about the church in Phillipi, the people that he's writing to, we learned about it. And at 16, you may remember that Paul is in Asia Minor and he is attempting to go in different directions in his missionary journey. And he has stopped cold by the Holy Spirit. And he one night is given a vision of a man in Macedonia saying, come over here, bring the gospel to us over here. So Paul gets on a ship and crosses the Aegean Sea and he makes his way to the first major city, which is Phillipi. He finds a place of prayer. He finds where people are gathering on the Sabbath at the the bank of a river. And there he begins to speak about Christ. And you may know the story, but a woman named Lydia, a very influential woman, God does a work in her heart and converts her. She comes to faith in Christ through Paul's preaching, but because of what God is doing in her heart. And out of that conversion, the little church in Phillipi is born. It begins to grow and more people begin to come to Christ. There is a church, a body of believers. Now, Paul is soon after forced out of Phillipi by by persecution and he moves on in his missionary journey. But that group of believers, the church in Phillipi, they continue to grow and not just in numbers, but in strength. And we get some indication, as Paul writes Second Corinthians, that the church in Phillipi, they are financially funding his missionary work, Second Corinthians eight. He refers to the churches in Macedonia. That's Phillipi, the churches in Macedonia sacrificially supporting him. They were sending him funds to enable to him to continue to go and plant churches, preach the gospel and plant churches. And they were doing it sacrificially. They were giving money that they didn't have. So when he writes here in verse ten now at last you have renewed your concern or your care for me, that indicates that there's been a break in that. They had been giving faithfully to him in support of him and for some reason were not given details. It had been a while since he had received anything from them. Now he goes right on in the second phrase of verse ten to say you were in fact concerned about me. He's relieving any anxieties, relieving any guilt that they may have about this break and their support. In other words, he's saying, I know you care. I know you have not stopped caring for me, but you lack the opportunity to show it. Again we don't have really a lot of detail. We don't have the facts of why there was this break in their support. This lack of opportunity to show it may have been because of their deep poverty. That's what Second Corinthians eight indicates, that these were people who had little to nothing to begin with. They were already giving sacrificially. And they just may have gotten to a point where they didn't have anything to give or it may have been because they couldn't find him. You know, they didn't have the communication, obviously, that we have today. Paul went on his journeys. Paul got sucked up in the Roman justice system and found himself in prison in Ephesus. It may have taken them a while to track down what had happened to him and where he is. But he goes on to say it's not on the screen, but in verse eighteen. If you look in your Bible, he says, I am now received from Epaphroditus, the gifts that you sent. And so they send this member of their body Epaphroditus with a financial gift that is ample, as the text indicates. And it is now finally reached Paul as he writes this. So, you know, he's writing this a bit as a thank you, but that's not his main point in writing. This is not just a belated thank you note. He now uses this as an opportunity to encourage them about finding joy and contentment. And this comes back to our theme of joy, where do we find joy? Well we're going to see we find joy in Christ, but one particular way that we find joy in Christ is in contentment, in the contentment that Christ gives. He introduces that in verse 11 when he says, I don't say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. That word content is the Greek word autarkēs. Strongs gives it some definitions here: to be satisfied, to be strong enough to need no aid or support, to be independent of external circumstances. Now, I don't know what you think about when you think of the word content, but the particular word that Paul uses here as they hear it and their culture with their background, it hits them in a way that I didn't really realize it until I studied this passage again in preparation for this sermon. Sinclair Ferguson probably says it best. Paul's use of this term, and this letter to these people must have been startling to them, shocking to them. Why? Because this is a stoic term. This is a term that is a main significant term in the philosophy, the world view at that time known as stoicism. Now, I don't know what you think about when you think about stoic or stoicism. Somebody told me after the first service today, I think about Bud Grant. You know, you Minnesotans who've been here a few years, do you remember the Vikings back when Bud Grant was the head coach? What was his facial expression when he won? What was his facial expression when they lost, you know, even emotions totally under control, not over reacting. Maybe you think of you know, I think of the the Scandinavians who made up my my first church in central Minnesota, the Norwegians and the Swedes, 90 percent of the church had son or quist on the end of their name, you know, and there was a stoicism because their ancestors had come over and started with nothing in the middle of winter, you know, and so they were known for their stoicism. Well, that's maybe, you know, maybe what we think of as stoicism that we're familiar with. But stoicism, of course, was a dominant Greek philosophy. There are men like Seneca, philosophers who are famous for it. Even a Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius, is known as a teacher of stoicism. But this is not just ancient history. And it's not just, you know, some some cultural significance. Stoicism is making a resurgence today. My three twenty something sons, they're they're reading Jordan Peterson. You know, Jordan Peterson is the clinical psychologist from the University of Toronto. Actually, Jordan Peterson, I think, is being drawn to Christ. But in his writings up to this point, whether he claims it or not, he advocates stoicism in response to all that's going on in our nation. He is a teacher of stoicism. I think about even in the midst of this pandemic, there have been YouTube sites, YouTube sites, YouTube channels that I have seen spring up that are about stoicism. And they're not for academics. They are for me and you, the average person making a case for how do you face the things that we're struggling with in the middle of this pandemic? The philosophy, the mindset of stoicism. So what is stoicism again? You know, this is not a sermon on stoicism. But let me give you just kind of what I think are a few main bullets of stoicism. Why? Because I really want to contrast how they may have first heard him use the word content with what he's really teaching here. So here's stoicism in a nutshell. Stoicism says, first of all, recognize what you can and cannot control in life. Stoics say there is so much suffering because we are trying to hang on to and control the things that are out of our control and basically they say about anything that is transient, you can't control your health is transient. I mean, you can do some things about your health, but you don't have ultimate control over it. Your relationships are transient. You don't have ultimate control over your relationships, particularly when people die. Your possessions are transient. You may think you can hang on to them, but, you know, circumstances happen and you lose them. So if you are invested in trying to hang on to the things and control the things that are transient in your life, the Stoics say, you are going to experience needless suffering. So recognize what you can control and let go of what you can't control. Secondly, the Stoics would say you determine your reaction to a crisis. The one thing you do have control over when circumstances roll over you that are painful, that are difficult, that bring suffering and loss, you can control how you respond to them. That's where that kind of moderated emotionalism comes into play. And that folds right into the third one. Don't let your negative emotions dominate you, the Stoics say. Master yourself and learn to move on. That's stoicism in a very, very condensed down nutshell. So let me ask you is, since Paul is using a term, the main term of stoicism, is Paul here teaching a Christianize version of stoicism? I've seen that out there in some of these YouTube channels that, yeah, this is Christian, Paul taught stoicism. Is that what he's teaching here? Is he is he advocating the Greek philosophy, the world view of stoicism? No. Let's go on. And I think we'll see this verse twelve. He expands on what he's just said about contentment. "I know how to have a little and I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content." Now, Paul, preconversion Saul of Tarsus, you would have not describe him as a man who is content, Paul even says looking back to his pre conversion life, he says about himself in Galatians Chapter one, I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my peers. I'm pushing. I'm pushing. I'm never satisfied. I want to continue to get ahead, he says. I was extremely zealous for the traditions of my teachers. I am at work. I am intense about this. I intensely persecuted the Church of God and tried to destroy it. So this is not a man who naturally knew contentment. Maybe you can relate to him. I know I can. Contentment does not come naturally. Contentment, the kind of Christian contentment that he's talking about here has to be learned. It has to be learned. And Paul, Saul of Tarsus, through his conversion and then all that he has been through, God was teaching him. He was in the school, God's school of learning contentment so that he can say, now I have learned the secret of being content. And let me tell you that secret is not stoicism. Now, you hear stoicism, somebody said after the first service to me, you know, I realize how much I'm kind of I kind of embrace that stoicism I can relate to. Stoicism is naturally a draw. You go through enough pain and enough hard things and life, and you tend to just naturally move in the direction of stoicism. But here, let me point out the subtle errors of stoicism. Stoicism says that contentment is found in self sufficiency. It's looking within. It's calling on my own resources and calling on my own strength. But it doesn't take long, does it not, to get to an end of our strength? It doesn't take long to find out that we don't have what is sufficient. So Christian contentment, the kind of contentment that brings joy, is just the opposite. It doesn't turn us inward. It turns us upward. Another error, subtle error of stoicism is it advocates seeking to be free from all wants or needs. Deny your needs, deny your wants. Well, that is a subtle form of Platonism, which often leaks into Christianity. Platonism is basically that mindset that says your body is evil, your spirit is good. Christianity is about your spirit, not your body. Repress your body, deny your needs. That's error. That is error. The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus saves both our soul and our body, that ultimate glorification when we meet Christ face to face is a glorified spirit and a glorified body. Stoicism also has the subtle error of advocating seeking emotional detachment and indifference, deny, repress your emotions. But the Bible teaches that God is a God of emotion, and God has created us in his image as emotional creatures. And you read through books like the Psalms and you see that God actually encourages the reverent expression of all of our emotions. There's no denying our emotions in following Christ. So I just simply sum it all up and say this, especially if you're drawn to stoicism, like I'm naturally drawn to stoicism. What stoicism seeks contentment, peace, the gospel of Christ alone provides. And if you're drawn to that peace and you're drawn to that sense of contentment that you hear in stoicism, that you hear in writers like Jordan Peterson, it's actually the gospel that's drawing you. That's where true contentment true peace, true joy is found. We see the gospel in Paul's secret of contentment, and he says it here in verse 13. He's been building to this. I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me. That's how he gets through situations where he's in need, where he's deprived of even the basics of life. That's how he he subsists even when he has more than he needs. It is right here. Now, let me do a quick aside here, because this is one of the most misused and misinterpreted verses in scripture. This is, I read this week, and this is so accurate, this is a verse that you see trinketized. You know what I mean? You know, you see it on coffee mugs and you see it on bumper stickers and Bible covers, but it is so often misused. And I'll give you a classic example. I am a Tim Tebow fan. Tim Tebow is from Jacksonville, Florida. So I know his family kind of through acquaintances, wonderful Christian family, missionary family. Tim Tebow led the Florida Gators where two of my sons graduated to the SEC championship when he was the quarterback. And so I'm a fan of Tim Tebow. I just need to say that. He's a strong Christian man in our culture. But here is you see up on the screen, you see the cover of the Sports Illustrated in 2009. And this is at the height of his his college fame. And I think you can see it in this picture. But just in case you can't, the blacking that he puts under his eyes, then written in white on it is this verse Philippians 4:13. Well, you can imagine what so many people did with this verse - oh, he's advocating this is the secret to his football success. That if you just believe that God is able to give you all the strength you need, you can become, you know, a champion in whatever you do. And that is unfortunately, that is a common misinterpretation of this verse. This is, I'll read you the words of a well-known prosperity preacher who this is his message. He would preach from this verse or he has preached from this verse, don't focus on your limitations. All things are possible if you have enough faith, if you just believe enough, you can overcome any obstacle. You can climb to new heights. You can achieve your destiny. Well, that is a misuse. That is a misinterpretation of this verse. That's unfortunately what probably many of Tim Tebow's fans thought of when they saw him doing this. But in defense of Tim Tebow, he has publicly explained what he meant. And I've got it on the screen and I want to read it. Tebow says this. He said this publicly. After that, there was the controversy about this Sports Illustrated cover. "The verse (Philippians 4:13) is actually about contentedness in all circumstances. It's not about being able to throw a better pass or make a better play on the football field. It's about being content with the victory secured through Christ." How important that is, you see how we can misuse this verse so easily, can you imagine two football players on opposing teams and they're each riding in their cars to the game that they're going to play against each other? And both of them are are Christians and both of them are praying Philippians 4:13. God, give me the strength to accomplish the victory in this game. And I believe that you will. Well, what happens at the end of that game? Somebody has won and somebody has lost. So what's happening in the car rides home? Somebody says, God, you came through to me for me. And the answer to that verse, what's what's happening in the other car? Well, God, you let me down. God, you weren't true to your promise. You see how we can so easily misinterpret and misuse the verse. So when Paul says I can do all things through him, through Christ, who strengthens me, he is not teaching that God gives you the strength to do whatever you desire to do, whatever you set your mind to do. This is Paul who says, I have learned the secret of contentment both in need and in abundance. This is Paul who has learned it through persecution, who through being beaten, through going through times where he was starving. Paul is teaching this. It is in the context of serving Christ, doing Christ's will, that this verse is true. This is the assurance that Christ strengthens us to carry out his will, not our own will. That's not necessarily on the football field, but wherever Christ calls you to do your will, you are a young mom and you've got little kids and you are struggling to be a mom in the way that Christ calls you to be a mom and a wife. The way Christ calls you to be a wife, he gives you the strength to be able to do that. You are somebody who works out in the business world or the medical field, and you desire to walk with integrity that glorifies Christ in the middle of situations where it's often hard to be a man or woman of integrity. This is a promise. He strengthens you to do that because that is his will. So let me finish up with a couple closing comparisons of stoicism's form of contentment and the kind of contentment that Paul is teaching about that leads to joy. Just four simple comparisons, Stoicism says, again, recognize what you can control and what you cannot control. Christian contentment says, recognize that everything, everything, all of your circumstances, all that you have is under God's control. I love Sinclair Furguson, favorite preacher of mine. He says this, The contented believer is the one who believes that God's provision is always sufficient and God's appointments are always appropriate. God's provision is always sufficient for you whether you feel you have enough or whether you are lacking. He is provided for you out of his love and his wisdom exactly what you need to do, his will in the middle of the situation that you're in and God's appointments for you, where he puts you are always appropriate. The circumstances that you find yourself in even right today. If they are difficult, if you are going through trials, if you are suffering, he has again in his love and wisdom, put you right in the middle of them. And he is working in ways that you cannot see. And it is appropriate for how you live out his will that you are in the circumstances that you are in. That's Christian contentment. Stoicism again teaches seek emotional detachment, seek emotional indifference, deny those emotions, particularly sadness and grief. Christian contentment teaches. Bring all of your emotions. Bring them before the Lord in prayer. I pray every day. I pray through a Psalm. I work my way through the Psalter, get through it a couple of times in the year. I make the Psalm I'm reading into my prayer and the vast majority of Psalms there such great emotion. David starts at this low place in so many psalms or he is confused, he is frustrated, where he is angry, where he is sad he is grieving and he pours that out before the Lord. And as you go through the psalm, you see how God moves him in prayer to a place of contentment, to a place of peace. That's a model for us, bringing our emotions before the Lord in prayer. Stoicism says seek to be free from all your wants and all your needs. Christian contentment says no. Rejoice in the Lord, in your wants in your needs and even in your abundance. Don't forget rejoicing in the Lord when you have abundance. Don't think God has abandoned you when you are in want or you are struggling with needs. A.W. Pink says this "In every circumstance that the Lord has put us in, he's given us abundant cause to rejoice in him, to draw our joy from Christ. He has given us his favor. He has given us his love. He gives us his faithfulness. He gives us his forbearance, his patience with us. He grants us access to the throne of grace. He's given us the privilege of communion with him. He's given us the promise of eternity in his presence," the place of ultimate joy, the ultimate bliss. Finally, stoicism teaches, contentment is found in self-sufficiency, Christian contentment teaches contentment, and even joy is found in trusting in Christ's sufficiency. I am not sufficient in myself. No one here, no matter what resources you have, how strong you are, how smart you are, how connected you are, have sufficient resources in and of yourself. It is only through Christ. It is only in Christ, in vital personal union with him that we have, that comes from abiding in him, that we find true contentment and ultimately the deepest joy. We find deep joy, joy that carries us through whatever it is that the Lord has allowed into our life, no matter how much of a hurricane your circumstances feel like right now, he gives us that deep joy that comes from this form of contentment. It is in the words of the old the old hymn writer like this, Jesus, thou joy of loving hearts, thou fount of life, thou light of men from the best. Blessed that earth imparts we turn to you unfilled again. Let's pray. And Lord Jesus, we make that hymn, we make that our prayer. You are the joy of the hearts that love you, not what's going on in our life, not what we have, not what we think we have attained, which is all fleeting - there the Stoics have it right. But you are the joy. You are the source of the joy in our hearts. You are the fountain of life. It's where we find what it really means to live. You are the light of men. You are the one that guides us through the darkness, through the fog and confusion of this world from the best bliss that earth imparts. Lord, we just acknowledge there is no promise of bliss, of happiness, of joy that is offered on this Earth that is anything more than a vapor. And it's from now those false promises that we turn to you again. We ask you to fill us, fill us with contentment, fill us with joy, draw us to abide in you. Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen.

GimmeabreakmanGimmeaflakeman, 気味abreakmam, Victor is in studio tonight!Regaling us with tales of his Jvlogging lifestyle. Tune in to hear tales of Jvlog Hanami parties, and Sharla evolving into Sharlazard and using “Cunt” attack. It’s supper effective!Victor hails from Nagoya, or as Knick calls it: Nagasaki. (Sorry, Knick suffers from Geography Attrition. He doesn’t even know west from east).Victor is as Kanadajin would say, one of the longest living Jvloggers. He started his YouTube channel when he arrived in Japan for the Meiji restoration. He even had Thomas Glover and Commodore Matthew Perry on his live-streams. (See, the joke is that he is old).Victor is getting ahead of the nomination by appearing on the show. Very clever of him. We talk about Strongs, Jvlogger infighting, and life in Japan. It’s a very special two-part episode. Finally a goddamn guest!
On this episode of Going Deeper, we discuss tools we use to study and read scripture, the biblical character Rahab, and all the questions surrounding her and the agreement she made with a couple of Israelite spies. A wild Sharmander appears.Go Nikachu.Nikachu uses ice cream burstSharmander’s accuracy decreased. You got 2 great balls. This week we nominate a slice of white bread covered in non-salt margarine.A jvlogger so meta her most exciting video is overflowing with vanilla ice cream. That’s right! Our nominee is the worst starter: Sharmander, aka Sharmeleon, aka Sharla in Japan, the soon to be Sharizard! Her Pokémon names may seem cringe, but originally she was going with the water-type, Shartle, which is what you do in your pants after too many Strongs. There really isn’t much for me to say here. Sharla’s worst offense is having the flavor of tofu, saying “you guys” ever sentence and her work on Shin Godzilla.Speaking of which, we do talk about Shin Godzilla and J-bae Satomi Ishihara. Finally, somebody attractive to look at! Satomi’s English however, not so beautiful, but now we know why. Turns out jiggling boobs, lucky bags , Pokemon knowledge and filming the inside of your apartment does not qualify you as a dialect coach. Little advice Japanese directors, when you hire a foreigner to train your actors in speech, HIRE A FUCKING PROFESSIONAL! Or at least hire an American to train American accent, instead of a Canadian. OH MY GAHHH!!Also on the show’s A segment we talk about Gimmeabreakman, Gimmeaflakeman, Victor (will you jvloggers pick one name already?). Who took the time to discuss and critique the K.O.K. boys content. That’s right, we are reacting to a reaction video! So YouTube of us.Stay tuned for the epilogue of this weeks episode as an excerpt from our officially unofficial fan-fiction: Tokyo Vice 2 Electric-Drewaloo.We didn’t get a chance to properly smooch our wonderful Patreonins. Mason is joined by Jake Cassar on the show today. Jake is a bushman, conservationist, youth mentor and all round legendary character, who is out there doing good things for the planet and the community. Jake is a passionate bushcraft teacher with specialist knowledge in the area edible and medicinal plants native to both Australia and beyond. Jake works passionately to protect and conserve sacred land within Australia, and speaks with us today about the proposed development of the Kariong Sacred Lands by the Darkinjung Aboriginal Land Council. "Good people have just got to band together and do as much good as we can. It's the journey, not the destination." - Jake Cassar Mason and Jake discuss: The mysterious big cat Jake has been tracking in the scrublands of Northern Sydney. Jake's work as a 'responsible adult' (Jake doesn't like the term activist) in the protection of the Kariong Sacred Lands and the politics involved. The nature of activism; the sacrifice and the satisfaction. The value of coming together as a unified community, and doing what you can to preserve the land we live on with patience and persistence. The importance of appealing to the humanity in each person, and treating people with respect, even if you don't agree with their beliefs or behaviours. Moving from a survival of the fittest to a survival of the most co-operative mentality. Asking ourselves how can we best work together to create a safe and sustainable future. Who is Jake Cassar ? Jake Cassar is a passionate Bushcraft teacher, youth mentor and conservationist specialising in edible and medicinal native and introduced plants in Australia. Jake is well known for leading successful campaigns to create new National Parks on the Central Coast and for his devotion to raising funds and awareness for local charities such as homeless outreach centres, mental health support services, suicide prevention networks, youth support organisations, animal welfare groups and many more. Jake is fast becoming known as one of Australia’s foremost authorities on edible and medicinal plants, and has been referred to as a “Bush Tucker Guru” by the Daily Telegraph and “Aussie Bear Grills” by the Today Show on Channel 9. Jake has featured on Triple J radio, ABC radio, The History Channel, and National Indigenous Television (NITV). Jake has spent most of life fine tuning his survival knowledge in what he calls “The University of the Bush” and has taught himself much of what he knows through personal experience spending over 20 years doing annual trips 'out bush' and living from the land for weeks at a time. Jake has worked with much respected Aboriginal elders in NSW and Central and Western Australia and has given presentations with well known people in Botany such as Les Robinson, Alan Fairley, Costa Georgiadis (Gardening Australia) and Aboriginal Bush Tucker Chef, Mark Olive. Jake has presented at Universities for nearly a decade with a presentation he calls " The Science of Survival" where University lecturers, Indigenous Elders and Indigenous students, all collaborate to share knowledge regarding the uses of native plants. Jake’s presentations, courses and tours are upbeat, interactive, engaging and include a comprehensive display of native and exotic plants and an in-depth description of some of the plants uses. Jake will share information on how to make rope from tree bark, fire from sticks, soap from Wattle leaves and much more. It's good to see your face. It's been a few years, been following along on your journeys and grateful for social media so I can stay tuned in to all that you're up to. And I'm really excited for all the... We're on a different podcast than the one we did originally. We're on the SuperFeast Podcast now, and I'm really excited about everyone meeting you and learning about your work and the important work that you're doing down where you are. So Jake let us know, what are you up to? What have you been up to the last 24 hours? Jake Cassar: (00:38) Well, the last 24 hours I've been chasing this mysterious big cat that's been seen in North Sydney. I do a bit of tracking in all of my spare time. And I've started working with a pet detective agency recently, locating missing pets. I've been out there over the years finding missing pets, that's one of the things I do. And I've even found a few missing people in the bush with the help from some friends, one Aboriginal friend, in particular, helped us locate a missing person a few years back, which got on the news. Jake Cassar: (01:07) But this time round, I'm out tracking another sighting of this big cat. Some people call it a panther. I'm pretty certain it's not a panther, but I don't think it's just a regular feral cat either. It's only about an hour and a half from where I live, so I've been out here in Northern Sydney in the scrub tracking it for the last few weeks actually. But I've been here for the last 24 hours. Jake Cassar: (01:29) Excuse me, my sunnies is probably holding my eyes in at the moment. Because I've had about half an hour sleep on and off throughout the night, just getting up and checking traps and checking cameras and laying just baits to draw it in the trap that we set for it, wouldn't harm it, it'll go into the cage and catch it. And then I'm planning on extracting a little bit a DNA through its fur with a little bit of a follicle on it. And then if it's some kind of big native cat, which Aboriginal elders have suggested may very well be, we'll let it go. Jake Cassar: (01:58) If it was a large feral cat, then I wouldn't have shot it, I have in the past, but I've actually got a wildlife sanctuary, the huge enclosure at Calga, the Walkabout Park, that'd be interested in taking it if it was the biggest feral cat ever seen, which it must be, this thing's a monster, to educate people about the issues around feral cats. So it's been really exciting. Lots of people following that on my Facebook page, on my Insta page. And you know, there's been a lot of heavy stuff going on as you know, Mason and its been a nice little break from all the heavy stuff and that mysterious creature in the bush, that's been fascinating humans for probably hundreds of thousands of years. It's back. Mason: (02:38) Because we've all grown up whenever we'd go into the... From growing up in the city and even Tahnee, my fiance, living up in far North Queensland, everywhere you go, I don't know if it's the same up on the West coast, but on the East coast, everyone's got those sightings of the big black Panther that escaped from the circus growing up and the story. And we wonder if it's native, we were thinking about, we were talking about that... I wonder if that could possibly be a native cat and I was going to ask you that. So, that's fascinating. Have you able to been able to get any fur at all, just from tracking or you need it to be like a live sample? Jake Cassar: (03:19) No fur yet, but I've got some really, really compelling footage in the last 24 hours. I've seen it about the last week, but I only got here yesterday and checked my motion detection / night vision cameras, and I've got an image of it. The problem is I've got them set up along about a five kilometre radius. The problem with the footage is you can pretty clearly see an area where it's coming and going. And there's a couple of landmarks in the background that might give away its exact location. And I'd love to share this footage, but I don't want every man and his dog going into the area trying to trap it. Especially if it is a cat that's probably been here for thousands of years. Jake Cassar: (03:55) I think it's most likely a cross between a Asiatic Golden Cat, they call it. It's like a wild cat that lives in the forest, Catopuma is the genus. And it's certainly, from some of the evidence that I've found both in tracks, and on my video, I've got about 25 images on my motion detecting cameras, a cross between the Catopuma species likely and just Felis catus, your standard domestic cat gone feral. But as we all know, they can get two to three times the size when they get out in the bush, they can get enormous. Jake Cassar: (04:27) And you chuck a bit of other wild cat into the mix, which are currently apparently a lot of the Asian wild cats can interbreed with domestic cats. Then you've got this incredible mix, which some people, if they want to jump on my Facebook page or Insta, Facebook Jake Cassar official or Insta, Jake Cassar Bushcraft, you can have a look at that video. You can have a look at the tracks that I found near where the video was taken, the plaster cast in comparison to different tracks. Mason: (04:54) The plaster cast... Jake Cassar: (04:55) Yeah, it's been really fun. At the very low end of the scale, it's been a little bit of fun. On the high end of the scale, we could be contributing something new to science here. Mason: (05:06) I can imagine it comes in at a nice time, because it's been heavy down your way with all the illegal land clearing that's happened all of a sudden. You've been there for many years. For lack of a better word, your activist work was something, when I met you seven years ago, maybe we met and did the bush tucker, Bushcraft little run through the shrub there. Actually the first time I met you, I was with the Strongs. Jake Cassar: (05:41) Oh were you? Mason: (05:41) Father and son. Jake Cassar: (05:41) Yes, please. [inaudible 00:05:40]. Mason: (05:42) Yeah. And Michael Tellinger. So that was the... And we were up at the hieroglyphs there and you, I heard that they were coming and you strode in and out, just like a shadow, all of a sudden you were just there. And then from there, we went on that little trek. And I think I happened to fall in that time when there was a native beehive that hadn't gone up and checked in about three years and we went in there and we had a bit of native honey... Jake Cassar: (06:16) I gave you some of the honey, that's a privilege, not many people get to experience that. Mason: (06:16) That was an absolute privilege, but yeah, since then you've been going hard. I mean, just watching what you're, it's interesting. You want to talk to us about what you're doing and why it comes down to someone like yourself in order to fund yourself and fund the protection of land and species, species getting decimated for the sake of further development, further non-necessary development, a lot of the time. It's just developers is just wanting more, more cash in areas that have cultural significance. Why is it you, that's having to go and work your ass off in order to fund yourself to go and do this activist work, that should be something that's done by, I don't know, say the land council. Jake Cassar: (07:08) Well, in this case, unfortunately it is the local Aboriginal Land Council that's acting as the developers. And they're the ones trying to develop an area known as Kariong Sacred Lands, they're saying that it's not connected to Kariong Sacred Lands, but that's the whole point of the official Aboriginal place listing, is that all of that land's interconnectedness. It's not my place to go right into the why, it's more of the traditional custodians. And I acknowledge those before I speak a little bit about this kind of stuff, but that whole area is a really, really important meeting place for many groups coming together. Jake Cassar: (07:37) The good news is, is there's a lot of Aboriginal people coming together in the background and supporting us, are now more in the foreground, but it's an unfortunate situation where you've got the state government, actually they're calling it the Aboriginal sep where they're trying to empower, is one way of putting it, Aboriginal Land Council's to develop some of these very, very special places. Jake Cassar: (07:58) And, basically if anyone tries to step in the way of these totally unsustainable and destructive developments, they call you a racist. So, which is interesting, because a lot of members of our group are Aboriginal, and certainly that's a fascinating situation to be in, to be called racist, which I was called while fighting to protect Aboriginal sites alongside traditional custodians. Jake Cassar: (08:24) So it was very clever, good one, Rob Stokes, the Minister for Planning. He's obviously sat down with a few people, and if anyone gets in the way and believe me, they won't get in the way, the Greens don't want a bar of it, the big environmental organisations don't want a bar of it because it's too, I guess, politically incorrect to go up against the Aboriginal Land Council in regards to land development. Jake Cassar: (08:46) To that point, should Aboriginal Land Council's have the opportunity to develop land, absolutely. Should they be able to make money off the land, and largely attempt to do whatever they want with the land, absolutely. I would prefer that than any other developer. And that makes sense doesn't it? But if it's an unsustainable development that could potentially desecrate ancient sites of human occupation, could cause extinctions, in this case the development they want to do, actually several developments they want to do on the Central Coast will severely impact or just wipe out potential koala habitat. Aboriginal sites are known to be in these areas and dozens of endangered flora and fauna species. If anyone does that, whether it's a overseas developer, an Australian developer or local Land Council, then Aussies irrespective of our background should have the right to object to it. Mason: (09:35) What's the strategy that they have to be able to call you a racist? Because it seems from what I can tell from the Land Council and my dealings when I went to Alice Springs and dealt with the Land Council, as the elders were being pushed off the land for mining, when we went up there and we went and we probably had a bit of a pie in the sky kind of mentality at the time. We all serving them letters and cease and desists and that kind of thing. And you know, didn't really go anywhere because they just steam rolled it and pushed that mob off the land. Mason: (10:06) And so I wonder, because when you look at who's working at the Aboriginal Land Council, a lot of the time there are Aborigines working there. But from what I went through, and what I'm reading about the developments that they're talking to you about it and from what I've just, what I'm seeing myself, it seems they're creating this ornamental Aboriginal protection culture there, within the Land Council. And then if anyone, as long as it doesn't get in the way of the development that ultimately the big business and government wants to have, there doesn't seem to be that much proper protection. Like, you know what, there's some species in there, and there's some sites in there. So you know what, you just don't go there. Mason: (10:54) They will look for justification at whatever cost to make sure that they don't actually protect the majority of this country. The majority of the country is sacred. As long as you don't get in the way of that, we're okay to keep on pushing these nice Aboriginal cultural ideas and take you on nice little tours. And it seems like this ornamental version of what's actually potentially the oldest culture on earth. It seems like a terrible representative. Jake Cassar: (11:27) Well, there's a lot of good people in the Land Councils, and there's a lot of good Land Councils doing really good things across the country. As I understand it, as I've been told, there's a lot of great people in our local Land Council. We got a letter of support from our page, Coast Environmental Alliance, from someone who's on the Land Council to stop the Land Council development. So more now than ever good people irrespective of our background may just stick together for the sake of our children. Is it not up to you or I to tell Land Councils how they make their money, with respect should we tell them that they should be doing cultural tours and different things? I'd like to see that personally, I'd love to take my daughter to that. I think it's important, but should they be able to determine how they make a quid? Absolutely. Jake Cassar: (12:10) But what it really comes back down to for me mate is, is if it's totally unsustainable, if it's disrespectful to the environment and if it's going to destroy Aboriginal sites, I don't care who it is, I'll stick my neck out and I seem to be at the moment, one of the only people doing it. Not giving myself a pat on the back, because it's been full on, basically me calling a spade, a spade, and saying that the Land Council is set to benefit from the illegal clearing. Someone got through and bulldozed that land. They're threatening me with legal action, looks like they're taking me to court. I've had threats of violence towards me over the phone, the racism calls. So, so many hectic things have happened from this, but that's the way it goes. That's the way it goes. Jake Cassar: (12:55) And that's when you know that you're on the right path, that you're making a difference. If we don't stop this from going right across the state or the greater Sydney area, the state governments actually used quite colloquial words. They've said, we're basically testing this out to see how it goes in the greater Sydney area. And, in the background, if we can get all these unsustainable development through, again the Greens, the Greens are for this development, they say they're not opposed to it, they don't see any problem with it. Jake Cassar: (13:23) They'll be wiping out endangered species and potentially Aboriginal sites and encroaching on the Aboriginal sites in the area, the traditional custodians are totally against this development. And they're on our side, on the side of the land more. So you've got Labour, Liberal, we should call them laberal. And, the Greens now locally, they've got to me recently, they'll have a shot at me for saying this, but it's the truth. Jake Cassar: (13:45) I can show you the letter. You can post it under this podcast. Basically they saying that they are for it, and this is all about Aboriginal self-determination. Tricky thing for me to talk about, for anyone to talk about. If this is about that, our Land Council's got tens of millions of dollars in the bank, they are the richest Land Council in New South Wales. I've heard them boast about that on many occasions and I use them loosely, some wonderful elders on the Land Council, and some friends I went to school with. I'm not just sugar coating what I'm saying, I actually mean that, and the largest private land owner on the Central Coast. Jake Cassar: (14:20) So they have other options. It's just interesting to see them teaming up with the state government. So you've got a private, I'm getting a bit passionate here, you've got a private land developer, who's got a bit of a deal going with the government, who puts together these supposedly independent panels that they launched during COVID when people can't protest, to just rubber stamp any development going through, again a private developer, ok, with a relationship with the government. We know developers do have relationships with government, but you've never seen it so open, to just destroy some of the most important parcels of land, some of the most important places full of koala habitat, full of ancient engraving sites. Jake Cassar: (14:59) And if you stand in the way they're going to do everything they can to bulldoze over the top of you, quite literally, they're illegally clearing the land. I'm not saying who's done it. I think I believe I've found who's done it, the guy's admitted to it. The Land Council made me take that video down because of some of the things I've said. Yeah, well that was part of the legal action, they gave me a few days to reply or else they're going to sue me, and I've worked really hard for the very little I've got to put my daughters, take my daughter to a decent school and get her a decent education. Jake Cassar: (15:26) I'd like to keep my car on the road, keep my guitar and sound system. I don't know how that works when they do sue you, but they certainly got the power to. The good news is, is I've got a lawyer now that's going to be working for me at least for a while pro bono. So that's been really, really helpful, but they're basically just trying to tie me up. And the reason they're trying to tie me up is because this is a much, much bigger picture thing. If they can float this, if they can float this thing and keep these weak buggers purpose from the Greens and lie about supporting Liberal and their State Planning Panels that are too scared to be politically incorrect and I get it. I get it, believe me, I get it. I'm not saying it's good, it's gutless. Jake Cassar: (16:06) Okay. But I absolutely get what they're doing. They are going to not only destroy massive areas of bushland, but the Aboriginal people that I know who I do not speak on behalf of, I can again, put you in contact with these people if you want to interview, my indigenous friends that are traditional custodians. They're going to be disempowering indigenous people, because they're going to be smashing their sites. They're going to be smashing their sites like they're trying to do here in Kariong, and right across the greater Sydney area. And if they can float it, if they can float it, then they're going to roll it out across New South Wales. The state government are saying this at the moment. So this is the time where we make a stand. This is a time where people have got to come together, black, white and everything in between. If we don't now, we're fucked mate. Mason: (16:48) As you said there are lots of beautiful people that are working within these organisations absolutely, but what I said in terms of it being ornamental, anything that is there being under as a, basically being a bit of a chest piece for the government at large. And as you said this, them saying that they're testing out, whether they're going to be able to basically get away with it here. Jake Cassar: (17:09) That's what they saying. Mason: (17:13) It's not surprising because they know ultimately people don't care because they know they've ultimately again, got this ornamental relationship with a lot of beautiful people and beautiful people who are trying to do good work, but under the guise of that, and saying we're empowering Aboriginal people, we're going to go in and create, and basically clear whatever we want and develop whatever we want, as you said. Jake Cassar: (17:35) And a handful of people make a shitload of money and what happens to the rest of the community? Mason: (17:40) Well, who makes the money in this situation? Jake Cassar: (17:44) I guess the Land Council as a private land developer because they pretty much come out and just said that they're private land developers, which again, I'm not anti-development mate. Mason: (17:53) Your elders, where do your elders sit on in receiving coin? Or just a little bit of an acknowledgement that, that's their land. If this gets cleared and they make millions and millions. Jake Cassar: (18:07) When you say my elders, what do you mean? Mason: (18:09) The elders in your area? Jake Cassar: (18:11) Okay. Yeah. Because to make it clear I'm not indigenous, dad's from Egypt and mum's Aussie going right back to second fleet. The local elders, where do they sit in, in this whole scheme of things? Mason: (18:22) Where do they see, in terms of where, if this goes ahead, and this multimillion dollar development goes ahead in that area, where do they set to benefit? Jake Cassar: (18:31) Well, they don't set to benefit at all. They've written letters absolutely against it because they want to continue to use those areas for the reasons they do. It's not, again, not my place to go into it, but we've got, Darkinjung as they pronounce it in our local areas. Some Darkinjung people, the [inaudible 00:18:50], and some Guringai people are, [inaudible 00:18:51], [inaudible 00:18:54], I think is another local tribe. I think that's how they pronounce it. They're absolutely, absolutely passionately opposed to it. And they know why, because they know that land. They know what the engravings mean and the significance of those sites. The Land Council has said that there's no sites of significance within the area well they passionately disagree. And whether I've got a right to, or not, whether I've got a right to care about those sites or not, I've been gently visiting that area since I was about 11 years old and turning 45 this year. Jake Cassar: (19:29) So been around a little while and I've dedicated 10 years of my life to protecting the land right next door, which is all part of what they call Kariong Sacred Lands. Part of the reason it got listed as an official Aboriginal place of significance is due to the work that I've been doing there with indigenous and non indigenous kids in juvenile justice, and DoCS/FaCS for the last 16 or so years, I met with the government there, met with elders. Jake Cassar: (19:55) The Land Council actually supported, Darkinjung Land Council actually supported that area, being recognised as Kariong Sacred Lands. And I think again, the term here was used, the cultural landscape. So the overall landscape was really important. The bush tucker in the area is really important for the ongoing education of both indigenous and non indigenous kids side by side. And as you know, I run in four major elections as an independent and was able to eventually leverage a government. Rob Stokes, the Minister for Planning was actually involved in making that national park. I guess he wrote the check and we stopped the biggest development within any national park in New South Wales. Jake Cassar: (20:32) Kicked off the sort of grassroots activism movement on the Central Coast, about 13 or 14 years ago, when we started having blockades and camps, and proper peaceful community actions, having three, four, 500 people at rallies, five, six, 700 people at concerts. I worked out we had over 45 events, over nine and a half years to get that in the national park and thousands of letters sent. And just sign much hard work. You know, the elections in particular were a pretty full on experience for me, the first federal election I ran in I was living in a tent at an activist camp at the side of the road. And going to these big forums with over a hundred people that was quite terrifying, but yeah, you do what you've got to do. Jake Cassar: (21:19) And, when I walked my little daughter down there, she's about to turn seven in October. But when I walked her down there as a little two year old to the grandmother tree and showed her the hieroglyphs and tried to explain to her, even though she was only really little, what her daddy had done and her mum as well at the time, and the community had done to protect that land. And it was a very, very profound moment for me. And so it's been blood, sweat, and tears into protecting this land here. And, it's an incredibly unfortunate situation, Mason that here we are against the Land Council, some members of the Land Council. Because again, we've got some that are coming on board. Mason: (21:57) Which is amazing all right, far out. Jake Cassar: (21:59) It is. Yeah, it's incredible. And we're also getting some people within the government that are just been bloody awesome as well. Because, people are just sick of the rubbish. The magic word is we're not against development, we need development. It's a shame that development is a dirty word because what a great place Australia is in general, for world-class sustainable, exciting development that we need. We've got room for all kinds of different industry and to do it sustainably, but stop going for our most special places. Jake Cassar: (22:32) Stop causing the extinction of koalas, get serious. I'm not a lefty or a righty or anything like that, I'm more of a centrist. I'm probably a little bit conservative in my old age, but just use some bloody common sense that especially after the fires that ravaged, this part of New South Wales, the greater Sydney area is an incredible, it's a Garden of Eden of ecological diversity. And it's some of the last bastions for koalas and they're still smashing their areas, their habitat, which is what's happening up here at Kariong. Jake Cassar: (23:09) That's exactly what they're trying to do. They're not trying to do that, they have knocked down probably a couple of thousand koala trees. Now that was the illegal clearing that happened, I've got that on video, I don't know if you caught that. Mason: (23:19) I did. Jake Cassar: (23:21) We're looking into making sure that fines are issued and that land is regenerated. That more archaeological studies go in to that area. Just trying to keep an eye on it again. I'm going to give another plug to Coast Environmental Alliance, a little group we've got on Facebook. We've actually got close to 6,000 members. If you want to get involved in something, people that are watching this, that will bear results, win, lose, or draw. It's getting results because good people are coming together, again black, white and everything in between. Jake Cassar: (23:50) We don't care what your background is. Join with us to push towards something extremely positive, sustainable development. We're not a no group, we're a yes group, but how can we work together to start to head in the right direction. But every now and then you've got to dig your heels in and say no more. If we don't, for example in this area, it's going to cause the localised extinction of koalas in this area, which will contribute to what they're saying, koalas being extinct on the mainland Australia or in the wild, rather in Australia within three decades, it's just not good enough. We need to draw a line somewhere. Mason: (24:31) That's not, and I love how inclusive you are. And I really do recommend everyone follow your personal Instagram and Facebook for updates. But that's great to know that we've got that Facebook page there, whenever I can join the community and find out what action they can take, because there's also look, there's going to need to be resources and funds and people on the ground. As you said, it took nine years, for you to secure that largest area of national parks. Jake Cassar: (24:56) Well, it was us, mate, it was a team effort, it was everybody that sent a letter. It was people like yourself. And I don't expect everybody to be, I don't like the term activist. I consider it doing your best to be a responsible adult for the country that you live in and do the right thing by your kids. Caring for the land is the ultimate act of self-care because you're caring for future generations, even after you're gone. All people have got to do is just follow what's going on. Send the occasional letter. We're not allowed to protest anymore, another debate, but people can take action. People can empower themselves by taking responsibility for the country they're privileged enough to live in, send a letter, make the phone call. If you go and see, there's always somewhere to send a letter to. Jake Cassar: (25:36) There's always an action to take. With respect to a lot of environmental groups, mate they're experts at having meetings and delicious finger food and all that kind of thing. But when it comes to action, there's always something to do. You can write a press release, anyone. You could write a press release about this and send it to anyone. You can make a phone call about this. You can send an email, you can get in touch with me and say, "Jake, what can I do to help?" Which is my favourite question that I get asked. There's always a way of getting involved in environmental protection in your own area. People do things in different ways. And as I said, I not only know that a lot of people can't, work sometimes 20 hours a day like I do to protect the environment, which is what you've got to do. Jake Cassar: (26:16) And I even don't recommend it for a lot of people because you'll burn out really, really quickly. But you know, realistically there is things people can do, but you start to see a lot of that. I know we touched on this last time, but a lot of the new age kind of stuff, coming into bloody activism now where they're talking about, activism's all about balance, and self-care, and taking it easy and that. No, it's not, it's about sacrifice. It's about hard work. You know, grab that balance wherever you can, don't get me wrong. Grab the self-care wherever you can, because there's going to be times where you're going to go without sleep. There's going to be times where you're going to have a lot of hate and anger coming towards you and probably from your own camp, a lot of the time other activists. Jake Cassar: (27:02) That's been my experience, there can be a lot of toxicity within that movement. It's why I believe the doof scene and sort of the young hippie scene, if I had to label it has become less about activism and more about what's become modern leftism, I suppose. Its hard work, but it's deeply satisfying and it's absolutely paramount, it's critical that people step up now. It's really now or never, look at what's going on, I'm sorry to rant, but look at what's going on in the world today. We're just good people, good people got to come together, to say the left and right again, the left and right of politics wants to keep us all divided. Jake Cassar: (27:39) Imagine if the beautiful indigenous people of our country, the first people of Australia banded with the beautiful whatever background. I don't like saying non indigenous because I'm from here. But imagine if all the good people in Australia dug our heels in and said nup, nup, you're not taking this any further. You're not going to keep trashing the land. You're not going to cause the extinction of koalas and all the other fauna and flora, you're not going to attack our water tables. Do it peacefully, do it respectfully, but do it passionately and stick together. Again, mate it's now or never. Mason: (28:11) It is now or never. And your inclusive nature is like, all right, whether you're in politics, this organisation, whether you've got a business, whether you're a mom, whether you're a dad, whether you've got heaps of resources, not, whatever. It's just, as you said, it is a part of your own self-care practise to get involved, start protecting the land and doing the right thing. And it comes with the betterment of yourself ultimately. Man, I love it. And I love the fact that, someone like yourself is like, it makes me, which isn't, I don't think is necessarily a healthy thought. It makes me feel good, that there's people like you, Jake on the front line going, but ultimately what that does is it does really inspire me to stay involved, I'll keep on staying involved. Let me know and let us all know when there's any mass push for anything that you're going to be directly useful. Mason: (28:59) Otherwise, I do encourage everyone to go and join that Facebook page, which we'll pop in the show notes. Everyone can get involved and keep your finger on the pulse. And I think another thing I've learned from you is to not get caught up in that, the delicious endorphins of jumping in, and getting upset and angry about what's going on and then burning out, and realising you actually don't have the capacity to hold that emotion. But rather going in sustainably, if you want to be screaming from the rooftops for sustainability from the government, from the Land Councils, from all these people, which is all we want. I didn't mean to insult anyone who is involved in the Land Council before. I just had to get my emotional baggage out. Mason: (29:42) But, it's not about dragging any of these things down. It's just about, gentle asking for us all to become better, and sometimes we're going to bump heads, but ultimately you want to make sure you're going in a sustainable manner so that you can keep this up for the rest of your life. It's an important element of being alive on this earth. It's something, if we're going to learn anything from mob is that we're custodians. And I learned that from you a lot, that's why I love following along with you, mate. So I really appreciate you taking the time, especially since you've been tracking for the last 24 hours. Jake Cassar: (30:15) Well, that's been pretty exciting. Yeah. And, back to people doing what they can, even if people do, like a shooting star burn bright for a little while and then burn out, that's okay. If you go to the top of CEA page, Coast Environmental Alliance, you'll see a pinned post there. As soon, in regards to this development in Kariong Sacred Lands, we'll be able to make submissions against that official submissions. But on CEA, we've always got a pinned post at the top of the page, which gives lots of information. And then there's an email for people to send. You want to send that one email, you can either copy and paste, but it's better if you put it in your own words, and then just follow through with each person. Jake Cassar: (30:53) Once a week is fine, make a phone call, follow-up with a phone call. And then the key is to just not give up until you get answers, you can share things. My email's on there as well. So you can send things back to me. I've got this response from the local mayor or the local state member. If you're lucky and you get a response, and if you don't, then give them a call, give them a call and just keep chipping away. If we were to look at it like this, they've got a certain issue over here where there's piles or paper building up on their table. And you look at this issue here in Kariong and it's building up, building up, when this becomes overwhelming, especially in the lead up to an election. Jake Cassar: (31:28) And just your average person, you know what, I focused on my friends that are Liberal voters, there's not heaps of them, but there's a few. So yeah, I had a Liberal politician turn up to one of our rallies and I heard him say to one of his minders on his way out, "There wasn't a Liberal vote in that place." And the penny dropped, the penny dropped. Then we stopped trying to appeal to the tree huggers as such, and lucky we've always been able to appeal to the general public, but started to really try and do letterbox drops in a local area and just try to appeal to everyday people with the kind of language we use. And that's what changes stuff. When someone messages, and says, "Listen, I'm normally a supporter of yours. I would vote for you in the next election. I love it that you've done this, this, this, and this." But if you don't and you've got to watch your wording, because you're dealing with a human being. Jake Cassar: (32:17) If you don't support this and sustainable development, and again, I'm not against development, then I'll certainly won't be voting for you in the next election. And it's that kind of language not put so raw because again, some politicians will just reject you for saying things like that. It will certainly catch their attention. And that's really the kind of grassroots activism that works when they think that it's going to cost them the election. They say it's not about votes, but if they don't get re-elected, they can't do all the wonderful things that they promised just before elections. Some do, some deliver wonderful things. Mason: (32:49) As you said man, got to drop all those political labels, right? We've got to not be caught up in that. That's all a smoke screen. We're all beautiful humans. And you know, ultimately as you just said, we're dealing with humans, we can always appeal to our own humanity, therefore other people's humanity. I needed that reminder, it's fun getting caught up in a little bit of us versus them for a while. Jake Cassar: (33:12) I think there is a little bit of that, mate. I think there are some people that don't give a shit about the land and about our future, and they are focused on short term goals. But I'm more talking about the way that you interact with people, on a lesser degree, some people can be quite petty, and you see a lot of it on social media too. People don't agree with something, so they block them or they're just nasty or disrespectful in the comments. There's a lot of that getting around nowadays. A lot of politicians can be quite petty, so if you say something that upsets them, they will just ignore you. I'm just, I guess, talking about interacting with other people, even if you don't like them, with respect and just edging towards trying to get a goal. Jake Cassar: (33:51) If you get correspondence from a politician and your toing and froing, here's that paper metaphor again, you've got the paper building up on their table. If they're getting back to you, then it shows there's an interest there. And if they're getting back to 16 other people that week, 20 people, 30 people, 50 people, and that paper keeps building up. And when they speak to someone further up the food chain in their political party, and they say, "What are the main issues that are pressing in your region?" They say, "Oh, this one." 'Oh, shit, what are we going to do? We've pretty much promised that that development's going to go ahead." I'm not insinuating this, but let's just say, for example, we've even set up a stacked planning panel here that's just going to approve it. What are we going to do? Well, it might cost us the election. This is how that stuff works, Mason. Mason: (34:36) All right, well, let's keep on pushing, pushing and pressing. Jake Cassar: (34:39) Yeah, we're good at that. Mason: (34:42) Well, I think you've given everyone some really solid advice to where they can take it next. I appreciate you coming on. Were there any last messages or any little things you want to drop on everyone? And as well, tell them about your tours as well. Jake Cassar: (34:57) Yeah, I'm a bushcraft teacher. I've spent the last probably 25 years. Wow, it's pretty cool to be able to say that, one of the good things about getting a little bit older. Spent about the last 30 years, my God, more spending time in the bush. The first time I did a survival mission, wasn't meant to be a survival mission, I was about 17 and lived off the land for like three and a half weeks. Up in (inaudible) national park. And then just basically kept doing that throughout my life. Went bush, just when I left working as a bouncer for 10 years, the local pubs and clubs. And I lived up in the bush for around four or five months up the back of Kariong, up there with an Aboriginal family that stayed with me for a while with their kids. Jake Cassar: (35:40) And we all sharing knowledge and learning tracking together and developing our skills. And, since then I've started teaching. I worked as a senior ranger at a local wildlife sanctuary for quite a few years and I've done bush tucker talks right around Australia, worked with quite a few Aboriginal communities. University of Western Sydney, I'll go there and they bring between 50 and a 100 indigenous youth from remote communities there each year. For the last two and a half years, I've been leasing a property up at Mangrove Mountain, only an hour north of Sydney and an hour south of Newcastle. And I run tracking courses, bushcraft courses, mainly plant based because my forte is edible and medicinal plants, maybe we can get on and have a chat about that one day. Jake Cassar: (36:24) And in supporting my courses, you're supporting all my environmental work, my youth work, I work as a youth worker as well, and in the local juvenile justice systems and places and running some programs up on the property up there soon, we calling it the Youth Trackers Camp. And yeah. So if anyone wants to get on board, it's all about building community. Jake Cassar: (36:48) I don't sort of say very spiritual as such things very often. And I know that's very, very popular nowadays, but I do say to people, if you want to get involved in this brand of what's going on, it's all about to me, if anyone comes at me with wanting me to go and get into the ayahuasca, get into this, or get into that and learn about these spirituality and that spirituality, if it doesn't have at the core of it, and I can be quite arrogant here and I'll own that, if the core of it, isn't helping to create a safe and sustainable future for our children, then I'm really not that interested in it because in my opinion, that is the conversation we need to not only be having that conversation now that's the action we need to be taking now. Because if we don't, we're screwed. Mason: (37:33) Yeah. That is at the core of all cultures. That and... Jake Cassar: (37:35) It was. Mason: (37:39) It was. You're right. Jake Cassar: (37:42) It used to be. There's some pretty amazing things happening in the background at the moment, mate. I'm having some incredible conversations around the campfire with some incredibly wonderful people, some gentle people, but passionate people that are ready to go. And I've had so many people coming to me saying, "We should go this way, we should go that way, we should do this." I said, "I'm just going to keep doing what we're doing." Looking after the land, looking after the youth, taking counsel from the elders, which includes non-indigenous elders, anyone who's had the life experience and knows how to create again, to etch towards a safe and sustainable future for our future generations. Jake Cassar: (38:16) When, I say our children I mean that collectively. Good people have just got to band together and do as much good as we can. It's the journey, not the destination. I tell people to go and learn survival skills because we're going to need them, that's becoming more and more apparent now that, that is highly likely to be in our personal future or in the future of our children or grandchildren. Jake Cassar: (38:38) So it's not only survival, physically, being able to live off the land, but it's also survival, I'll use the word spiritually, how we can interrelate to each other, how we can work together. We're in this survival of the fittest society at the moment, we need to move much more towards how the land works and how all of our ancient ancestors lived. And that was survival of the most cooperative, resilience comes into it, being fit and being strong and sometimes survival of the fittest realistically comes into it, but you know, survival of the most cooperative, how can we best work together towards a safe and sustainable future? That's where I'm at. Mason: (39:21) Amen. Everyone, especially if you're in Sydney, Gosford, Newey, it's easy for you to get down and do... And you've got day courses, you've got overnights. It's available to everyone and the youth work. You've always been doing such good work with the youth work. So, if that appeals to you, go check it out and let's definitely line up another chat talking about the bush tucker, talking about what it's like to actually come back and eat the food from this land and learn how to track this land. That'd be great. Jake Cassar: (39:49) Good stuff mate, it was great spending some time with you again. Mason: (39:53) Yeah, absolutely. Hope I'll see you soon. Jake Cassar: (39:55) For sure champ.
For the first time, a book of the apocrypha has been keyed to Strong's Concordance for the purpose of in-depth study of the original text. Side-by-side with the Greek fragments of the Book of Enoch found in Akhmim, Egypt, a new English translation has been presented. Said to have been written by the antediluvian prophet, Enoch (Gen 5:24), this ancient book gives a first-hand account of the fall of the angels (Isa 14:12-14; 2Pet 2:4; Jude 1:6) and their abominable union with humans (Gen 6:1-4). Though its place among the Holy Scriptures has been a subject of great controversy over the centuries, it seems clear that the canonical Epistle of Jude (1:14-15) quotes it as an authoritative document. However, with this new interlinear study edition of Enoch, you can compare it to the canonical Bible and choose for yourself: is it inspired by God, or is it simply another forgery ("pseudepigrapha")?

Proverbs In 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 20:25 It is a snare to say rashly, “It is holy,” and to reflect only after making vows. What does holy mean? Strongs concordance says this word translated from means apartness or sacredness. As a believer God calls us to be set apart to the Lord. That includes our words. We are to keep our word both to God and man. James 5:12 says: But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation. So when we give our word to another we are accountable to God for our pledge. If you are a believer you are an Ambassador for Christ and so our words reflect upon the Lord. In that context our words are holy. We are not to give our word or make a promise flippantly to others. We say things like I will be praying for you… but what becomes of our words? We say I will be there or I will call you tomorrow morning… or I will commit to this or that… As the Hebrew indicates; Holy carries with it the idea of being set apart. That’s why we we say God is holy... His character and all of his attributes are so far set apart from sin... To an eternal extreme he is 100% Holy in all his ways. But we live in a culture where people are holy unto themselves... they are set apart from loving others and loving God and to them sin and selfishness are sacred. That was us… We hoping that the promises of the world like money and nice things and seeking our own glory would bring us joy. But since we have seen the glory of God in Jesus, our words are to be holy... set apart for the Lord for his glory. 1st Peter 4:11 says: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Another great verse along the same line is: 2nd Corinthians 3:3 And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. In that sense which Paul is describing, Gods word is to be applied and internalized in to our life making us holy and set apart that our life might be matching up with who we are in Christ. As believers we have the righteousness of Jesus... but practically we are a work in progress. We made a sacred declaration that Jesus is our Lord and we are now on his mission… no longer on our own and we must not be stagnant or fall back and with a wishy washy heart reflect now on our profession of faith after we have made it and say… no… I think I will go back to believing the promises of sin… but rather be holy and set apart more and more. In closing let me read today’s proverbs again: Proverbs 20:25 It is a snare to say rashly, “It is holy,” and to reflect only after making vows. Pray
Knowing the Bible for Yourself (Pt. 2) It will never do to be hearers of the word only and not doers of it; James makes this very clear (Jms 1:22). Yet at the same time, to be a doer of the word without first hearing what is being asked is to walk in ignorance. How many, armed with good intentions and loaded with zeal have gone out of the starting blocks with pace, only to be later disqualified because they were in breach of the rules. You cannot compete in a race without obeying the rules and you cannot obey the rules unless you first know what those rules are. Thus, it is incumbent upon us as students of the Word of God, to rightly divide (Grk. to cut straight) the word of truth that we might not be ashamed (2 Tim. 2:15). If the Bible was a single book, composed by a single contemporary author, that would be one thing. If we had any questions or doubts about the meaning of what is written, we could simply ask the author. What happens when you have a book written by upwards of forty different authors, across a number of continents with the earliest of these writing some 3500 years ago? In this second teaching part, we explore the role of dictionaries and commentaries in serving to better aid our study of the Bible, especially when bridging the gulf of history and culture. In this teaching segment, we look at a commonly misunderstood verse: Having abolished in his flesh the enmity even the law of commandments contained in ordinances…Ephesians 2:15 The Greek word “ordinances” is Strongs 1378 and it means “dogma”. We will look at other scriptures where this word occurs and we will see that it is associated with man made decrees. Yeshua abolished man made decrees and doctrines of man. We see that the Oral Torah is the decree of the Rabbis. The Oral Torah, which includes the Talmud and the Mishnah, is the rabbis interpretation of the Written Torah. The rabbis teach that their interpretation of the Torah and their decrees from the Oral Torah supercedes and is above the Written Torah. Mark 6:30-44 where Jesus feeds the 5,000 is more than just a miracle to wow the crowds. It is instead a picture of how Jesus is a very personal good shepherd, who has compassion and aims to provide good things.
