The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Jaime reminisces about the bygone glory days of the Kingsguard. He turns his attention to righting the wrongs of the current White Swords. He goes man-by-man through his sworn brothers, calling them out on the issues he has with them. Lastly, he has a heart-to-heart with Loras about his claim that Brienne killed Renly. Jenny and Mackelly applaud Jaime's closing arguments.Chapter Review:Jaime Lannister reads through the White Book, the written history of the Kingsguard, while waiting for his sworn brothers to join. When his brothers arrive, Jaime admonishes them for allowing the king to die under their watch. He then gauges their opinions on Tyrion's involvement in the death. He goes through each man and calls them out on issues. Ser Boros Blount will now be King Tommen's taste tester, as he's unfit to protect the boy he gave up so easily. He then questions why he's never heard of Ser Osmund Kettleblack before. After that, he asks Ser Meryn Trant to show him where in their vows it says to beat women and children, like he did to Sansa Stark. He praises Balon Swann's character but questions how he'd handle his family challenging Tommen's rule. Finally, he turns his attention to Ser Loras Tyrell, who reminds Jaime of himself at that age. Jaime makes a case for Brienne's possible innocence in the murder of Renly Baratheon. His argument is enough to seed doubt in Loras' mind. Jaime tasks Loras with talking with Brienne and deciding her innocence or guilt. Whatever Loras determines is the case, Jaime will abide by it.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Jaime Lannister - Member of the Kingsguard. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Catelyn Stark is confined to her father's chambers for freeing Jamie Lannister, there she stumbles upon a family secret. Simon and Mackelly muse upon the butterfly effect. Chapter Review:Desmond Grell and Utherydes Wayn have the tricky task of punishing their Lord's daughter for her treasonous act of freeing Jamie Lannister. She both makes it harder for them (by being entirely unrepentant and refusing to play along with their extenuating circumstance olive branches) and easier for them (by readily agreeing to confinement in her father's chambers). Her dying father calls out about “Tansy”, “blood”, “forgiveness”, “You'll have more sons, and trueborn”. Cat has never heard of Tansy and asking around doesn't help, as the servants and attendants are on orders not to engage with her beyond what is strictly necessary. After some speculation Cat decides that Hoster is referring to Lysa - and the baby she lost when she was first married to Jon Arryn. Cat pens a letter to Lysa pleading for her to visit, but doesn't expect a positive response. Edmure arrives home and reports that Stannis was defeated at King's Landing with Tyrion injured and expected to die, the Riverlands are free of invaders, and he's sending ravens to Harrenhal to have Roose Bolton block any possible routes south for Jamie and Brienne. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Sansa overhears disquieting news of the battle, has a run-in with Sandor Clegane, and learns from an elated Ser Dontos Hollard that the battle has turned as reinforcements have arrived from the east in the form of the Tyrells, Tywin Lannister, and somehow Renly Baratheon. Simon and Mackelly mourn the missed opportunities.Chapter Review:Lancel Lannister brings news of the battle. Things are not going well. As the king was pulled back to safety, the men lost heart and threw down their arms. There are enemy forces at multiple gates, Tyrion is likely dead, and the defenders are outmatched. Cersei Lannister takes all this as evidence that Joffrey should be further withdrawn. Lancel objects but Cersei insists, smacks him in a wound in his side, and storms out.Sansa tries to reassure the frightened ladies, but then uses the opportunity to go to her chamber. Figuring some distance between herself and Ser Ilyn Payne is prudent. There she finds the Hound waiting for her. He offers to rescue her and take her north, but she'd rather take her chances here. He leaves. She takes a well-earned nap. She's awoken some time later by Ser Dontos who is cock-a-hoop with joy, but barely coherent. When she calms him down enough, it transpires that Stannis' forces have been routed by an army comprising Tywin's force from the West, and the combined forces of the Reach apparently (and puzzlingly) led by Renly.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Sansa Stark - Eldest daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Cat and crew arrive back at Riverrun to good news. Brienne has sworn to protect her. Robb's winning the war. Hoster is hanging on. Jamie is still captive and Ned's remains have been returned. Not withstanding some odd decisions by her brother Edmure, things are looking rosy. Mackelly and Simon get worried. Chapter Review: Catelyn Stark arrives back in the Riverrlands with her entourage, including Brienne of Tarth. Brienne pledges her future to Cat, with the proviso that when the time comes, Cat will release her to get revenge on Stannis for the murder of Renly. They're met by Martyn Rivers who fills her in on what they've missed. Robb winning victories. The West getting some of their own medicine. Twyin leaving Harrenhal to engage. At Riverrun, she learns that Tyrion's plan to free Jamie almost worked, and the Lannister's involved hang from the walls. The place is overrun with smallfolk seeking the security of the castle. Edmure has pulled the forces from the Twins to bolster Roose Bolton's number - this combined force will take the relatively unguarded Harrenhal. Edmure meanwhile will attack Tywin's army as it passes close to Riverrun. Cat visits her dying father, he mistakes her for her sister Lysa and recalls forcing her to marry Jon Arryn not that “wretched boy." Cat is curious who he means. Ned's bones have been returned. in my last stream for about a month, we're gonna be having halloween a little bit early. Today we're gonna be talking about maybe the strangest inclusion in all of ASOIAF: The shadow assassins/shadow babies. The affectionately known shadow babies come right out of nowhere in ASOIAF proper, the physical proof of Melisandre's power as a shadow binder. The assassinations of Renly Baratheon and Cortnay Penrose stand out as their only two known use cases. But where else might they be? Where do these shadows linger and kill where no one thinks to look? Maybe in a tent outside of Oldtown. Or in the Dragonpit itself, as The Disputed Lands is fond of speculating about. We're gonna try and break down the most fantastical part of ASOIAF today. Link to Stream: https://youtu.be/2qrttyyL_VI Dying of the Light free preview: https://www.patreon.com/posts/54241987
The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
News of Renly's death has reached the small council in King's Landing. They dispatch Littlefinger to treat with Loras Tyrell - the leader of the faction that hasn't pledged fealty to Stannis. The offer? Renly's widow Margaery Tyrell to marry Joffrey and be queen. Simon and Mackelly consider the implications. Chapter Review: Varys shares the reliable news that Renly is dead and many unreliable accounts of who did it. Tyrion is disappointed, he'd hoped that the Baratheons' fight would drag on for months. The bad news is compounded by the rapid switching allegiance (to Stannis) of the majority of the noble houses. The slightly better news for team-Lannister is that Ser Loras Tyrell has ridden off taking maybe 20 percent of the lords with him. And Ser Courtney Penrose, castellan of Storm's End, fearing a trick, will not open the doors to Stannis until he sees Renly's body - which has gone missing. So how to turn this dissenting minority to the Lannister cause? Tyrion suggests marriage. Should Renly's young widow Margaery (Tyrell) marry Joffrey, then the two wealthiest houses in Westeros would be conjoined. The Lords of the Reach who have now pledged to Stannis would have to reconsider. And the balance of power might just be tipped. After some debate, Petyr Baelish is chosen to take the message to Loras and Margaery. He grifts for every bit of money and influence he can get out of the chore. But Tyrion grudgingly admits he's the right man for the job. After the meeting, Cersei thanks Tyrion for his efforts and kisses him on the forehead. He could not be more suspicious. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Queen Cersei Lannister - Widow of King Robert Baratheon and twin sister of Ser Jamie Lannister. Mother of King Joffrey Baratheon.King Joffrey Baratheon - Bastard son of Jaime Lannister and his twin sister Queen Cersei Lannister. Currently King Joffrey Baratheon First of His Name. Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister. Brother to Queen Cersei and Ser Jamie Lannister. Acting Hand of the King.Varys - Master of Spies, member of the Small Council.Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish - Master of Coin, member of the Small Council, and childhood friend to Catelyn Tully. Jacelyn Bywater - New Commander of the City Watch (AKA Gold Cloaks).Bronn - A sellsword who fought and won Tyrion's trial by combat. Now Tyrion's friend and bodyguard.Stannis Baratheon - Claimant to the Iron Throne.Loras Tyrell - Younger son of Mace Tyrell (Lord of Highgarden). Known as the Knight of Flowers. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Cat prays for a quick and bloodless end to the war between the Baratheon brothers. She needs to be careful what she prays for because she gets mostly that. Renly is mysteriously killed by what appears to be a shadow assassin. But poor, innocent Brienne takes the blame. Simon and Mackelly examine the details of the wild night.Chapter Review: Catelyn Stark prays in a tiny sept to any of The Seven who will heed her pleas. She prays for safety and strength for her family and herself. She also prays to the Mother to watch over the men who will fight in the up-coming battle between Stannis Baratheon's meager forces and his brother Renly Baratheon's much larger army. While ruminating in the sept, Cat realizes that if Stannis' claim of incest between Queen Cersei Lannister and her brother Jamie Lannister are true, it gives possible validation to her belief that a Lannister sent the man to kill Bran. The boy must have seen them at their incest. Later, in Renly's tent, she proposes to Renly that they bring Bran forward to tell the realm what he saw. After the Lannisters have been discredited, a great council can be held to determine who should sit the Iron Throne. She asks that the battle be put on hold until she can similarly propose the plan to Stannis. Renly rejects the idea. Moments later, Renly's shadow raises its sword and plunges its shadow sword through Renly's neck. As the blood pours from him, the dying Renly falls into the arms of Brienne, who had been dressing him for battle. The commotion draws the attention of the guards. They rush in and see Brienne holding the dead king. Assuming she killed Renly, they attack. Cat convinces Robar Royce of Brienne's innocence, and he helps the women flee. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell. Widow of Lord Eddard Stark and daughter of Hoster Tully, the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Stannis Baratheon - Elder brother of Renly Baratheon, rightful heir to the Iron Throne.Renly Baratheon - Robert and Stannis' youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End. Husband to Margaery Tyrell. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Cat tries to keep the peace between Renly and Stannis Baratheon. Neither is willing to budge an inch, so Cat and the rest prepare for war. Simon and Mackelly predict the likely outcome. Chapter Review: Catelyn Stark is first to reach the hill where the two sides will parley. She cannot see the sea, but can smell it in the air. In the distance, the giant fortress of Storm's End looms with Stannis Baratheon's small army arrayed before it. The siege looks entirely pointless. Stannis arrives and exhibits the coldness he's famous for when expressing his sorrow about Ned's death. He's not there to make friends (king's don't have friends, only subjects and enemies), and reminds Cat that Robb will be next once he's dealt with Renly and Joffrey. Renly arrives and the brothers exchange unpleasantries. Each offers the other the lordship of Storm's End if he'll support the other's claim to the throne. Neither will. So the talks come to nothing. As she leaves Melisandre warns Renly to look to his sins. War is inevitable and Cat wants no part in it, but Renly refuses her request to leave. He wants her to witness his army's power and his ruthlessness in putting down dissent (even from his own kin) so that Robb will hear of it. She goes to a nearby sept to pray. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell. Widow of Lord Eddard Stark and daughter of Hoster Tully, the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Stannis Baratheon - Elder brother of Renly Baratheon, rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Renly Baratheon - Robert and Stannis' youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End. Husband to Margaery Tyrell. Claimant to the Iron Throne. Margaery Tyrell - Daughter of Mace Tyrell, Lord Paramount of the Reach. Sister to Ser Loras Tyrell. Wife to King Renly Baratheon. She is reputed to resemble Lyanna Stark. Ser Loras Tyrell - Knight of Flowers. Youngest son of Mace Tyrell. Dashing and renowned swordsman. Brienne of Tarth - Tall and homely daughter of Lord Selwyn Tarth the Evenstar. She is an expert sword fighter. Member of King Renly's Rainbow Guard. Randyll Tarly - Lord of Horn Hill. Father of Samwell Tarly. Melisandre - A priestess of the red god R'hellor and trusted advisor to King Stannis. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Cat arrives in the Reach to discuss an alliance with King Renly Baratheon. She finds him amidst a tremendous host, playing at being king with feasting and tournaments. His nonchalance is punctured by news that his brother Stannis has besieged, not King's Landing, but the Baratheon seat of Storm's End. Mackelly and Simon consider the internecine implications. Chapter Review: Catelyn Stark awakes from sweet dreams of her family reunited, to the reality that she's headed further away from them. She and her honor/body-guard have skirted the troubles in the Riverlands and arrived safely in the Reach. Today will see them reach the upper Mander River and the Roseroad. She eschews a lavish breakfast to speed things along. They're spied and escorted into Renly's camp. The army is larger than she'd imagined, with banners from all over the Reach and the Stormlands. At the center, is the town of Bitterbridge and noise of a great tournament. Cat watches as an unknown knight defeats Ser Loras Tyrell to win the grand melee. The knight is revealed to be Brienne, the tall and homely daughter of Lord Selwyn Tarth. Brienne joins Renly's Rainbow Guard. Cat jousts (figuratively, and) politely with Renly who doesn't mind if Robb claims the title of king, as long as he ultimately bends the knee to Renly as the King of the Seven Kingdoms. He takes her to the tower so they can look upon his mighty host. She is not unimpressed. But his apparent primacy is challenged when news arrives that his brother Stannis has landed on the mainland with the focus of his attack, not King's Landing, but Storm's End. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell. Widow of Lord Eddard Stark and daughter of Hoster Tully, the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Renly Baratheon - Robert and Stannis' youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End. Husband to Margaery Tyrell. Claimant to the Iron Throne. Margaery Tyrell - Daughter of Mace Tyrell, Lord of the Reach. Sister to Ser Loras Tyrell. Wife to King Renly Baratheon. She is reputed to resemble Lyanna Stark. Ser Loras Tyrell - Knight of Flowers. Dashing and renowned swordsman. On Dragonstone, Davos watches Melisandre burn the gods of The Seven. He has a drink with pirate Salladhor Saan. He meets with King Stannis and is commissioned to go spread the word of Stannis' rightful claim to the people of Westeros. Simon and Mackelly consider converting. Chapter Review: Melisandre reveals the prophecy of Azor Ahai and his flaming sword Lighhtbringer, from the time of heroes. She tells that Stannis is the embodiment of the fabled hero and he withdraws a flaming sword from the burning effigies of the seven false gods of Westeros. Davos is impressed by Melisandre's powers, but concerned by Stannis' willingness to alienate what few allies they have. Davos has a pint with Salladhor Saan, a Lysene pirate. He brings news of the wars on the mainland and demands that they attack King's Landing while it is vulnerable. Saan also has a very negative view of the whole Azor Ahai thing - he, Azor Ahai, murdered his wife to make his sword, not exactly an inspiring antecedent for Stannis to emulate. Davos meets with Stannis. The king wants his smuggler to sail to every port in Westeros with news of Joffrey's parentage and Stannis' rightful claim. Davos doubts that they have the proof, but Stannis reminds him of Edric Storm - Robert's recognized bastard son at Storm's End. Stannis bemoans that he is in the right, but has the least gold and men of the various claimants. He notes that his only assets are his navy and Melisandre. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Stannis Baratheon - (Arguably) The rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms. Elder brother of Renly Baratheon. Husband to Selyse. Father of Shireen. Melisandre - The Red Woman of Ashaii. Priestess of R'Hellor, the Lord of Light. Advisor to King Stannis. Selyse (Florent) Baratheon - Wife of Stannis Baratheon, (arguably) rightful Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Mother of Shireen. Ser Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Advisor to King Stannis Baratheon. Maester Pylos - Young maester, sent to Dargonstone to replace the frail Maester Cresson. Maester Cresson - 80 year-old maester of Dragonstone. Long-time servant of the Baratheon family. Robb Stark - Eldest son of Eddard (Ned) and Catelyn (Cat) Stark. Crowned King in the North after his victory at Riverrun. Renly Baratheon - Robert and Stannis' youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End. Husband to Margery Tyrell. Claimant to the Iron Throne. Joffrey Baratheon - King of the Seven Kingdoms, as son of the former King Robert. Known to be the bastard son of his mother Cersei and her twin Jamie Lannister. Salladhor Saan - Pirate prince of the Narrow Sea. Former accomplice of Davos Seaworth's smuggling. Now recruited to King Stannis' cause. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
On Dragonstone, King Stannis Baratheon's entourage debate how to actualize his claim. Stannis' unforgiving nature makes allies hard to come by. There's some infighting, culminating in an attempted poisoning that backfires. Simon and Mackelly take a careful sip. Chapter Review: Maester Cresson ruminates on various omens and portents: a white raven signifying the end of summer, the red comet, the growing influence on Dragonstone of Melisandre the Red Priestess of R'hllor, his aching old bones, and so on. He has a friendly chat with Stannis' daughter princess Shireen and her creepy fool Patchface. He meets with Stannis but every idea for bolstering their numbers or courting allies is rebuffed by the king. The only concession seems to be the idea of marrying Shireen to Lord Robert Arryn of the Vale. Stannis' grievances now include his own younger brother Renly claiming the throne, Robb Stark styling himself as King in the North, his dead brother Robert for favoring Ned Stark over him, and so on. Stannis' open mindedness is not helped by Melisandre, who claims to have seen his ascension to the throne in the flames. Stannis feels his future is set, he need not compromise. Cresson decides to do away with Melisandre. As a peace offering, he offers her a goblet of poisoned wine. She is suspicious but drinks most of it down, Cresson swallows the rest. As he chokes and dies, she informs him that her Lord of Light really does have power, as she is unaffected by the toxin. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Stannis Baratheon - (Arguably) The rightful King of the 7 kingdoms. Elder brother of Renly Baratheon. Husband to Selyse. Father of Shireen. Melisandre - The Red Woman of Ashaii. Priestess of R'Hellor, the Lord of Light. Advisor to King Stannis. Selyse (Florent) Baratheon - Wife of Stannis Baratheon, (arguably) rightful Queen of the 7 Kingdoms. Mother of Shireen. Shireen Baratheon - 9 y/o daughter of Stannis and Selyse Baratheon. Suffers from greyscale on the face and neck. Ser Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Advisor to King Stannis Baratheon. Maester Pylos - Young maester, sent to Dargonstone to replace the frail maester Cresson. Maester Cresson - 80-year-old maester of Dragonstone. Long-time servant of the Baratheon family. Patchface - Fool and friend to Shireen Baratheon. Reputed to have skills as an entertainer, but lost his wits in a near-drowning. Renly Baratheon - Robert and Stannis' youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End. Claimant to the Iron Throne. Ardrian Celtigar - Head of house Celtigar. Vassal of Stannis Baratheon. Monford Velaryon - Head of house Velaryon. Vassal of Stannis Baratheon. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Cat and company arrive in Riverrun to find Lord Hoster Tully on his deathbed. With both Baratheon brothers vying to take the throne from their nephew, the Northern lords don't know who to support. The Greatjohn Umber has a creative solution, and declares Robb the King in the North to general approval. The boys dip their lances and consider bending the knee. Chapter Review: Catelyn re-enters Riverrun, where she grew up, for the first time in years. She's escorted to her father's rooms by her brother Edmure, recently freed from captivity in Jamie Lannister's host. Lord Hoster is near death but is glad to receive Cat. He's less thrilled to hear that his brother has come home. The old guy still has smouldering animosity for Brynden, and a fondness for his first grandson Robb. Cat finds Robb praying with the northern lords in the Godswood, where she played as a child. He's too busy to see his grandpa, as news has arrived that Renly Baratheon has wed Margery Tyrell and claimed the Iron Throne. With Tywin Lannister retreating to Harrenhal, the path forward for the northern army is not clear. Stannis has the better claim, but Renly has more (i.e., some) charisma. When it feels like the discussion is going, nowhere the GreatJohn Umber rises and dismisses all these southern kings, they mean nothing to him. The only king he'd follow is Robb Stark: the King in the North. All agree. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Robb Stark - Eldest son of Eddard (Ned) and Catelyn (Cat) Stark. Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell. Wife of Lord Eddard Stark and daughter of Hoster Tully, the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Hoster Tully - Lord of Riverrun. Father to Catelyn Stark, Edmure Tully, and Lysa Arryn. Old and in poor health. Edmure Tully - Heir to Riverrun. Brother to Catelyn Stark. Brynden “Blackfish” Tully - Brother of Hoster Tully, uncle to Catelyn Stark. Formerly Knight of the Gate in the Vale. Theon Greyjoy - Ward and hostage of Eddard Stark. Only surviving son of Balon Greyjoy, and heir to the Iron Islands. Lord John “The Greatjohn” Umber - Lord of Last Hearth - huge. Lost two fingers to Grey Wind, now fiercely loyal to Robb Stark. Jamie Lannister - Member of the royal Kingsguard. Twin brother to queen Cersei and older brother to Tyrion. Nicknamed the "Kingslayer" for killing King Aerys Targaryen. Stannis Baratheon - Eldest brother of dead King Robert Baratheon. At Dragonstone. Renly Baratheon - Youngest brother of dead King Robert Baratheon. Recently married to Margery Tyrell and claimant to the Iron Throne. Riverrun - Capital of the Riverlands, seat of House Tully. Support the podcast. Buy a bit of merch from our store. News of Jamie's capture reaches Tywin. The siege of Riverrun is lifted and Edmure Tully freed. Renly Baratheon has married Margery Tyrell and claimed the throne. Suddenly the Lannister procession is in danger of becoming a rout. Tywin orders Tyrion to King's Landing to bring the new king to heel. The boys are right there with him. Chapter Review: Tywin's bannermen are gathered at the Inn at the Crossroads, again. A messenger from Jamie's army has arrived with only bad news: Jamie is captured. The siege of Riverrun ended. The sell-swords have flipped allegiance. Edmure Tully has been rescued. Maybe 2000 men survived to flee back to the Golden Tooth, but the rest are lost. The bannermen, who aren't a particularly impressive group, are dismayed. They agree that everything should be done to ransom Jamie, but Tyrion points out that Joffrey's decision to behead Ned has shattered any possibility of that happening. Eventually, Tywin turfs them all out apart from Tyrion and Kevan. He announces that they'll retreat south to Harrenhal which his host is large enough to defend. With enemies on all sides, there's not much more he can do. In the meantime, his brutes will continue to burn and pillage the Riverlands. Lastly, Tyrion will be dispatched to King's Landing to rule. He's charged with bringing the new King into line, and Cersei too, and to figure out if anyone on the Small Council is worth their salt. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister. Brother to queen Cersei and Jamie Lannister. Tywin Lannister - Lord of Casterly Rock. Father of Jamie, Cersei, and Tyrion Lannister. Kevan Lannister - Younger brother of Tywin Lannister. Uncle to Tyrion. Jamie Lannister - Eldest son of Tywin Lannister. Member of the King's Guard. Currently in the custody of Robb Stark. Shae - a prostitute, consort of Tyrion Lannister. Ser Gregor Clegane - The Mountain that Rides. Sandor Clegane's older brother. Bannerman to Tywin Lannister. Lord Roose Bolton - Lord of the Dreadfort. Silent, watchful, and unnerving. Robb Stark - Eldest son of Eddard (Ned) and Catelyn (Cat) Stark. Current Stark in Winterfell. Support the podcast. Escorted by the beautifully handsome Loras Tyrell, Sansa discusses his past tournaments and the loss of Renly Baratheon. Sansa meets Margaery and quickly realizes that she may be in over her head. As Olenna gives Sansa a taste as to why she is called the Queen of Thorns, she also finds out about the monster behind the prince. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
King Robert has been mortally wounded by a boar. Ned's plan to tell him that his children were cuckoos turns to ashes in his mouth. Cersei, Renly, Varys, Petry Baelish - all start scheming for the next round of the Game of Thrones. Is Ned morally nimble enough to keep up? Mac and Simon mourn the fallen king and consider every angle of the implications. Chapter Review: Thanks to a surfeit of wine from his loyal squire Lancel Lannister, King Robert gets gored by a boar and the two-day journey back to King's Landing has allowed the wound to mortify. There is nothing Pycelle can do. Ned transcribes the King's last will and testament, with a slight edit, for the good of the realm. Cersei departs to...who knows? Selmy blames himself. Varys blames Lancel. Renly suggests to Ned that they take Joffrey into custody to ensure adherence to the terms of Ned's will: namely that Ned act as regent and projector of the realm until Joffrey comes of age. Ned writes to Stannis congratulating him on becoming king. Littlefinger paints a grim picture of the realm under Stannis, who doesn't command the love that Robert did nor demonstrates the level of forgiveness and flexibility that a king will need. Ned is set on his path. Baelish agrees to help but he'll need money to pay off the gold cloaks. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Eddard "Ned" Stark - Hand of the King, Lord of Winterfell, and king Robert's closest friend.King Robert Baratheon - King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men. Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Protector of the realm. Aside from being king, he's also Ned's lifelong best friend. Queen Cersei Lannister - Wife of King Robert Baratheon, twin sister of Ser Jamie Lannister. Stannis Baratheon - Older younger brother of King Robert and Lord of Dragonstone. Renly Baratheon - King Robert's youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End and Master of Laws. Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish - Master of Coin, member of the Small Council, and childhood friend to Catelyn Tully. Grand Maester Pycelle - Elderly grand maester of the Seven Kingdoms. Fellow member of the king's Small Council. Lord Varys - The Spider. Eunuch and Master of Whispers. Support the podcast. Buy a bit of merch from our store. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Ned has received info from the remaining Arryn household staff about Jon Arryn's final days. Following one tip leads to a shocking discovery, in the shape of a young blacksmith's apprentice who looks an awful lot like a certain king. However, we don't stop there. We comb through all of the information he's gotten and consider ways that the dots might connect. Chapter Review: During a Small Council meeting, Eddard Stark hears that the Gold Cloaks, the city watch, are woefully understaffed for keeping the peace, due to the the influx of people in town for the Hand's tourney. Ned OKs hiring more men and provides 20 of his own guard. Back in his chambers, he peruses the book Jon Arryn had looked at the day before his illness began, but Ned can't find anything useful in it.Jory Cassel has tracked down all of the people left in the city connected to Jon Arryn. Most of the information consists of rumors but Stannis Baratheon, the king's brother, keeps coming up in connection with Jon. Ned follows one of the leads to an armorer who Jon supposedly commissioned to make a suit of fancy armor. It turns out that Jon did not actually hire the man to make anything. He came to see a boy. When Ned sees the boy, he realizes that he is clearly a son of King Robert. The chapter ends with Ned wondering why Jon Arryn was visiting a bastard of Robert's, and why it was worth his life. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Eddard "Ned" Stark - Hand of the King, Lord of Winterfell, and lifelong friend of King Robert Baratheon.Jon Arryn - Former Hand of the King to Robert and foster father to Ned and Robert. Died suddenly and mysteriously.Renly Baratheon - Youngest brother of King Robert and Lord of Storm's End.Stannis Baratheon - Older younger brother of King Robert and Lord of Dragonstone.Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish - Member of the Small Council and Master of Coin. Childhood friend of Catelyn Stark.Gendry - Bastard son of King Robert.Dragonstone - Island castle, usually given to the heir to the Iron Throne.Siege of Storm's End - Siege during Robert's Rebellion, where Stannis and Renly Baratheon were stuck inside their castle and nearly starved to death.Support the podcast. Renly Baratheon was the youngest brother of Robert I. After the death of Robert and the execution of Ned Stark, Renly would be the first man to declare himself King in defiance of Joffrey. Renly would command the largest force in Westeros and the breadbasket of the Realm. Unfortunately beyond good looks and charm there was little of substance in Renly. TESTO DELL'ARTICOLO ➜ http://www.bastabugie.it/it/articoli.php?id=5752INVASIONE DI PERSONAGGI LGBTQIecc.

Lady Gwyn and yolkboy analyze the life of Renly Baratheon, the third Baratheon brother and self proclaimed King of the Seven Kingdoms, from his youth to his time as Master of Laws, and his brief reign and early death, with special attention paid to the politics the led to his campaign to win the throne. The usual readings and an advert from Westeros complete the episode. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The Ringer's Mallory Rubin and Jason Concepcion discuss ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 2, Episode 5, "The Ghost of Harrenhal," by analyzing its central theme: the importance of preparation and planning (6:00). They also detail the battles and events leading up to the assassination of Renly Baratheon (25:00) before crowning a competitor for the throne as the episode’s champion (35:10).
Andrew and Manu officially reach episode 3, "Lord Snow," where Ned Stark and company arrive in King's Landing, or as Ned previously referred to it, "that rat's nest they call a capital." Ned has to endure some of his least favorite parts of the rat's nest immediately, as Jaime Lannister gives him shit and he meets the Small Council, allowing the audience to be introduced to Petyr Baelish, Varys, Renly Baratheon, and Maester Pycelle. (At least Ned likes Renly.) Anyway, there are a lot of mini-character profiles in here, so away we go. iTunes link
