If you've ever hit that point where you're "still functioning," but everything feels heavier—this episode is for you. Andrew's advice is the opposite: you can be busy and even behind, but it has to be communicated—early and clearly—so stakeholders can react while there's still room to maneuver. This ties directly into the season's theme. Rob literally describes the season as "getting unstuck," "moving forward," and "getting out of the starting blocks." Forward momentum isn't a sprint; it's a consistent start. Forward momentum is often a communication problem before it's a productivity problem. If you're slipping, say it early—while you still have options. Small wins beat big intentions when you're overloaded One of the most useful tactics in the episode is deceptively simple: pick something small enough that you can finish it. When burnout (or just relentless busyness) sets in, big tasks become motivation killers. Breaking work into smaller, clearly finishable steps creates traction. Why do we reboot machines when something goes wrong? I'm sure all have done it, and I would guess quite a few of you have found situations where this seems to fix issues, but there isn't an underlying root cause that you can pinpoint.  This is a fairly accepted way of dealing with issues, but have you thought about why this is a way to solve some problems? The main thing that a reboot does is return the system to a know starting state. It's why quite a few people complain about some modern laptops and mobile devices because they avoid restarts and try to sleep/wake instead. The concept of 'Self-Determination' has been largely lost within the field of medical "science". After all, germ theory suggests that an alleged microorganism all of .005 µ in stature can and will wreak havoc on the trillions of cells and indigenous microbes composing the human form, and never mind that there may be an inherent intelligence within Natural Design.   Then there's that nasty deck of genetic cards dealt at the moment of conception that holds us forever captive to the sins of our parentage.  To top it all off, shit just happens, as our wise medics shake their heads when delivering the bad news that a patient has fallen prey to a "disease" of idiopathic origin. It's difficult for most to imagine the profound shift in consciousness that occurs with the realization that our well-being is an inside job, and nothing 'out there' has the power to determine our state of health unless we succumb to the fear and irrational options made available through Medicine Inc. Tom Cowan MD joins us for a lively discussion on the subject of 'medical determinism', and we can't think of anyone better equipped to guide us through the many fallacies of conventional science. Until his recent retirement from active practice, Dr. Cowan had a general-medical practice, first in upstate New York, then for 17 years in Peterborough, N.H., and for 17 years in San Francisco. Do you have an example of non-determinism being an emergent property out of deterministic subcomponents?I'm curious @Stefan Molyneux why do people seem to avoid simplicity or any reductions in complexity?I get tons of requests to add complexity to software at work without any regard for value provided to customers.I find it fun, interesting, and not overly difficult to simultaneously remove complexity, often deleting large amounts of code, even while adding features and making the program more robust.I saw this recently too with people mocking Musk's raptor 3 engine, which is a massive simplifications of the previous raptor 2 and 1 designs. I see this not only as practical, but also a thing of beauty that something so simple can be so functional, and likely, more reliable because of it.
