In this episode, host Keith Woodward talks to Corbs. Oh sorry, that's his hockey nickname, lets be more formal. Keith talks with Mike Corbett, the assistant hockey coach and somewhat of a hockey lifer, who has experienced more than his share of dynamic hockey life. You'll quickly get that sense as conversation unfolds. At one point a middle-aged (hope that's okay Mike) coach starts to question his role in college hockey after two different programs shut down. He has many roles at Quinnipiac, and is soaking up all the positivity around the National Championship. Oh, and make sure you hear how Corbs knew Collin Graf when Collin was 15; you'll enjoy where the story picks up. And he thinks there's more growth for a very detailed Collin. All episodes begin with Quinnipiac Student Matt Mungo's call on the Quinnipiac Bobcat Sports Network of the National Championship goal. Thanks to QBSN for letting us use this audio. Additional thanks for allowing audio usage from ESPN and the NCAA. The supermarkets' rapid rise has been accompanied by a dramatic increase in the amount of data that flows along their supply chains. But as Tesco's technical manager for salads Mike Corbett explains in the latest episode of Fruitbox, all of that information helps to reassure consumers that the food they buy has been sourced in a safe, secure, ethical and sustainable manner. “The demand for more data and more insight has steadily risen [over the last 30 years],” Corbett explains. “There are lots of ways and means of capturing data and demonstrating to consumers that we are being ethical, we are trying to be sustainable, we are trying to be traceable, we do care about provenance. A huge amount of data has to be captured to demonstrate our credentials.” For some in the business, it might seem that retailers ever-increasing demand for information is excessive and perhaps even intrusive. But as Corbett observes, efforts have been made to reduce the administrative burden on suppliers. “We're continually demanding more information, and greater access, but we're building up these pictures to help customers understand that we're trying to do the right thing by them,” he argues. “Yes, it can be quite challenging for suppliers and producers, but there are reasons for that. These are things that customers care about.” Hosted by Chris White in London, Fruitbox attracts a big audience across the global fruit and vegetable business that tunes in every week to hear exclusive interviews and expert analysis. For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Mike Corbett CEO and Portfolio Manager for Perritt Capital Management. One thing I hear quite a bit from MicroCap CEO’s and management is their desire to meet with institutions. According to Investopedia.com, an “Institutional Investor”, “is a non-bank person or organization that trades securities in large enough quantities or dollar amounts that they qualify for preferential treatment and lower commissions.” Investopedia.com goes on to break down what this term implies, “watching what the big money is buying can sometimes be a good indicator, as they (supposedly) know what they are doing.” In past interviews on the podcast, I recall that the goal as a MicroCap Investor is to find those companies before they get institutional coverage for this very reason – the expectation that once the institutions get involved, the cat is out of the bag, so to speak. So, I wanted to understand this a little better – who and what is an institutional investor and key in on what they look for in MicroCap stocks. The goal for this episode is to learn about what a fund is, in particular, a MicroCap fund, and if there is a difference in philosophy for investing between an institutional and an individual investor, understanding Mike’s due diligence process and his advice for investors looking into investing in MicroCap stocks. The Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Winter/Spring 2016 In this episode, Mike and I discuss the following topics: - Mike's background and he got into MicroCaps and land at Perritt - What is a fund, and in particular, a MicroCap fund - At Perritt Capital Management, why does a fund, and the “Opportunities Fund” in particular, exist to invest in MicroCap stocks? What do MicroCaps have to offer? - What is your investing philosophy? How do you evaluate MicroCap companies? And is it any different from the perspective as a fund, as opposed to an individual investor? - What is the due diligence process? Can you name a few criteria? What is your investment process? - How important is liquidity and the ability to trade in and out? - How hard is it to invest $100 million and more? - Is your fund sector agnostic? - When do you cut your losses? Is there a % down to buy or sell? And, do you buy more when it moves up a certain %? - What for example is an undiscovered stock to you? - What’s is your advice for investors looking at investing in MicroCap stocks?
