Kerry Docherty cofounded the lifestyle clothing brand Faherty with her husband and his identical twin. Kerry is someone who is passionate about using creativity and community to cultivate joy. Kerry is the author of the children's book Somewhere, Right Now, and also recently published her memoir, Selfish, about rebelling against meeting other people's needs, and instead focusing on meeting her own.In this conversation, we discussed how becoming a writer has always been Kerry's dream, why she compares writing a memoir to an archaeological dig, how putting yourself first can be a gift to other people, how it feels to reclaim the word “selfish”, how writing Selfish affected her husband and their marriage, and how to deal with blowback in a world that tells women to be small.Connect with Kerry: Instagram | LinkedIn | Website | Buy her booksIf you're looking to unleash your potential, find your personal, professional, or political fire, and to connect with a community who is doing the same, click here to learn more. Loved Selfish! Co-founder of Faherty, Kerry Docherty, was a college athlete and superstar with a natural healer's energy before helping her husband and his twin brother launch the clothing company. In the midst of start-up life, Kerry started losing herself and became entangled in an emotional affair with a famous musician. Her story explores what it means for a woman to put her needs first and how business and family mix.Arkansas-based humorist Jess H. Gutierrez turns on the funny in her second collection of essays, Adulting for Amateurs. If you've ever made a mix tape, this book is for you. Nothing is off the table from her dog-sitting gone wrong to being married to a woman firefighter. I didn't know Kerry's name until a few weeks ago, when I, thankfully, caught wind of her soon-to-be-released memoir, Selfish. After reading a brief description of the book, I pre-ordered it and tore through the pages in a week.Kerry is not just the writer, but the founder of the beloved clothing brand, Faherty. While I adore the brand's pieces hanging in my closet, I'd say I'm even more thrilled to have a dog-eared copy of Kerry's book tucked in my bookshelves. Much is written about marriage these days, but few books pull back the veil with such raw honesty. While Kerry's book is largely a story of self-discovery, personal evolution, and what it looks like for us (as women) to live into our fullest selves, the picture she paints of her marriage is a true gift. For anyone, at any stage of the relationship journey, I cannot recommend this book enough.Work with me PrivatelyConnect on InstagramWebsitePodcast Production by James Jorge

This week we're diving into Selfish, the raw and revealing memoir by Kerry Faherty, mother and co-founder of Faherty Brand. We unpack radical honesty, telling the full truth about your life without people pleasing, and the tension that comes with being fully seen. Including why sharing your truth can upset people, and how to navigate that discomfort in relationships. We explore reclaiming the word “selfish” as a tool for self worth and aliveness, the burnout of overgiving, and what happens when you lose yourself trying to keep everyone else happy. We also get into self reflection, living more expansively, and the cycle of wounding and healing in relationships. Everything we LOVE talking about! Kerry Docherty has spent her life being two things at once: the good girl the world expected, and someone far more complicated underneath. Co-founder and Chief Impact Officer of beloved B-Corp clothing company Faherty Brand, Kerry had a winding path, moving through Yale, human rights law, a mindfulness business, and a beach trailer selling swimsuits before landing somewhere she never quite planned. In this episode, Kerry opens up about the tangled dynamics of building a family business with her husband and his twin brother, her struggles with motherhood, and her own affair, all of which she recounts in her new debut memoir, Selfish: Unlearning, Reclaiming, and Telling the Truth, a book her loved ones didn’t want published. Are you selfish?“Selfish” is supposed to be the insult that ends the conversation, especially for women who were raised to be helpful, agreeable, and endlessly available. We sit down with author Kerry Docherty to pull that word apart and rebuild it into something sharper and more useful: self-awareness, honest boundaries, and the courage to admit what you want before you burn out trying to be “good.” Her memoir, Selfish, becomes the jumping-off point for a raw talk about what it costs to keep giving yourself away and why telling the truth can be both selfish and deeply generous. We dig into the trap of likability and the ways girls learn early to smooth everything over, including their own anger and ambition. Kerry reflects on privilege and what she has learned from people who have had to live more openly because the world already judges them. We also get practical about modern “self-care,” from doomscrolling dopamine to the quieter work of choosing what actually makes you feel alive, plus what it looks like to model emotional language and bodily autonomy for your kids. Then the conversation turns toward marriage, work, and longing. Kerry shares what it was like to build the Faherty clothing brand with her husband and his twin brother, how business can strain intimacy, and why writing a memoir is an “act of betrayal” even when it is also an act of love. She opens up about “Beau,” an emotional entanglement that exposes dormant creativity and desire, and we explore a reframe of partnership as something you choose every day rather than a life sentence you simply endure. If this conversation makes you uncomfortable, we think that is the point. Following their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Drogheda United last week, Galway United are on the road this Friday (13th February 2026) to St. Patrick's Athletic. It's not been a happy hunting ground for John Caulfield's men in recent times, having drawn twice and lost three times in their last five visits, including last year's FAI Cup quarter-final after extra-time. Galway United last won in Inchicore in the FAI Cup in 2017, but their last league victory was a 3-1 success in March 2026 thanks to goals from Vinny Faherty, John Sullivan and Enda Curran. Vinny Faherty, who represented the club in four spells between 2007 and 2020, scored nearly 50 goals during his Galway United career and also represented St. Patrick's Athletic on two occasions. He's been chatting to Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly and they started by looking back on the Drogheda game. == Kick-off at Richmond Park on Friday is 7.45pm and we'll have LIVE coverage on 'Over The Line' on Galway Bay FM.

Great clothes may be where it starts, but today's shoppers are looking for something more — a sense of connection, belonging, and shared purpose. Research shows that 90% of consumers value authenticity when deciding which brands to support: a clear reminder that while quality and design remain vital, meaning has become the new measure of loyalty. Today, brands across the industry are striving to evolve beyond products to create richer experiences that foster genuine connection and community. So, how does a modern brand evolve from surf-inspired apparel to a holistic lifestyle experience—one that includes cafes, content, and potentially even hotels? In this episode of Retail Refined, host Melissa Gonzalez sits down with Alex Faherty, Co-Founder and CEO of Faherty Brand, to explore how the company has transformed from a family-run clothing label into a hospitality-infused lifestyle ecosystem. Together, they discuss how Faherty is shaping a new model for heritage brands—one grounded in community, sustainability, and soulful storytelling.Key insights from the conversation…Scaling Without Losing Soul: Alex shares how Faherty has grown from a tight-knit 20-person team into a nine-figure omni-channel business with 81 stores, all while keeping its family-led ethos and people-first culture at the center.Sustainability and Authenticity: Faherty's journey to becoming a certified B Corporation reflects its long-standing commitment to sustainable materials, ethical sourcing, and partnerships with Native artists—setting a standard for responsibility in fashion. From Apparel to Experience: The brand's expansion into hospitality through ventures like Sun & Waves Café and the concept of a future “Faherty Hotel” underscores how lifestyle brands are redefining what it means to belong, extending the brand experience into every corner of daily life.Alex Faherty is the Co-Founder and CEO of Faherty Brand, a sustainable lifestyle apparel company known for its premium fabrics and relaxed, coastal-inspired designs. Before launching the brand in 2013, he built a strong foundation in finance and private equity, working at Cerberus Capital Management and Greenhill & Co. His leadership at Faherty reflects a blend of entrepreneurial vision, business strategy, and commitment to sustainability-driven fashion and quality craftsmanship.
When identical twins Mike and Alex Faherty launched their clothing brand, they made a daring move– launching wholesale, retail, and online, pretty much at the same time. Investors said it was outdated, maybe even doomed. But that contrarian bet helped grow Faherty into a hugely popular brand, built on family, ingenuity, and obsession with detail. The two brothers spent 12 years preparing for launch—Mike at Ralph Lauren learning the craft of fashion, Alex in finance learning the mechanics of business. In the early days they traveled the country in a beach house on wheels, pulling over on the PCH to sell bathing suits and board shorts. Mike's designs—surf culture meets big-city chic—took hold online, in department stores, and even swanky boutiques in Japan, giving Faherty the momentum it needed to eventually grew to $250 million in sales. What You'll Learn:Why the “all channels” strategy (wholesale + retail + online) can actually be a competitive advantage. The power of 12 years of preparation prior to launch. How to leverage factory relationships and suppliers as true partners. Why old-school, in-person sales can be a killer marketing tool How family, trust, and resilience became a core advantage of the Faherty brand.Timestamps:(05:41) Mike discovers Bergdorf's, cashmere, and fashion inspiration as a teenager in NYC(08:19) Mike gets grief from his basketball teammates for studying fashion at Wash U(13:38) Mike lands a job at Ralph Lauren to learn fashion from the inside(21:28) The moment Alex's mentor tells him that starting a clothing brand is “the dumbest idea I've ever heard”(31:41) The brothers launch Faherty online from a borrowed apartment in Puerto Rico(35:00) Roaming the country in a mobile beach house that doubles as their first store(41:34) Early wins with specialty shops(59:14) The brand nearly runs out of money and gets rescued by a man from Nantucket (1:07:14) A Covid-era gamble that pays off in massive growth (1:15:04) How the identical-twin bond became a superpower for the brandFollow How I Built This:Instagram → @howibuiltthisX → @HowIBuiltThisFacebook → How I Built ThisFollow Guy Raz:Instagram → @guy.razYoutube → guy_razX → @guyrazSubstack → guyraz.substack.comWebsite → guyraz.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week on the Glossy Podcast, senior fashion reporter Danny Parisi and international reporter Zofia Zwieglinska break down the latest in luxury earnings, pricing shifts and political pushback. Later in the episode, Zwieglinska speaks with Vanessa Barboni Hallik, founder and CEO of sustainable luxury fashion brand Another Tomorrow, about the brand's physical retail expansion and its approach to digital product passports. Barboni Hallik also discussed brand opportunities to scale circularity, during a conversation about Earth Week. In this week's news segment, Parisi and Zwieglinska discuss Kering's first-quarter earnings, which painted a concerning picture, with overall revenue down 14% and Gucci plunging 25%. They talk about the vulnerability of conglomerates overly reliant on a single label and the way macroeconomic tension between the U.S. and China is complicating luxury's recovery. In other news, Louis Vuitton quietly raised its U.S. prices by nearly 5%, a move likely linked to tariffs and growing production costs. And, amid the U.S. administration's ongoing efforts to dismantle DEI initiatives, major corporations and fashion brands are responding in different ways. While Target rolled back its diversity programs and saw 11 weeks of consecutive declines in foot traffic, companies like Levi's and Costco have stood firm on their initiatives — and in some cases, benefited from doing so. "Coaching can take so many forms, and nobody gets an A if you don't do it YOUR way.""Great things happen when you put pen to paper."Today's conversation with Jennifer Faherty, founder of Psych Paper, is a great example of how to make your coaching business work FOR YOU!Coaching is a skill set we can bring into anything and everything (even a positive psychology paper products brand!).There is no one-size-fits-all template. Host Philip Berman talks to Maxine Bedat, Executive Director at New Standard Institute, the official sponsor of the Fashion Environmental Accountability Act, a new bill introduced into the California State Assembly at the start of February 2025 which, if enacted, would become the first law in the country to require brands to engage in “environmental due diligence” concerning their products and supply chains. This Californian Bill is essentially the same as the 'New York Fashion Act' which was introduced into the New York State legislature in 2022 - though it's not yet law - and which is also backed by Maxine, The New Standard Institute and a broad coalition of industry folk including influential names such as, Rothys, Everlane, Reformation, Eileen Fisher, Patagoina, ThredUp, Circ, Vestiaire Collective, Stella McCartney, Ganni, Faherty, Cotopaxi, NRDC, Sierra Club, Canopy, Trove, EVRNU, American Academy of Pediatrics.
