Bella Howard, a talented Grade 10 learner from Kloof High School in Durban, is on the cusp of achieving her ultimate dream: representing South Africa in touch rugby. She's been selected to join the South African Touch Boks team for the Youth Atlantic Touch Cup in Ireland in July. This remarkable young athlete's journey in touch rugby began four years ago, and her standout performance at the Inter-Provincial Tournament in Cape Town last year earned her a place on the national team. Bella's dedication and hard work have paid off, and she's already attended a national training camp as she prepares to compete against the best in the world. Her sporting achievements extend far beyond touch rugby. She represented KwaZulu-Natal in soccer, playing for the U13A and U14 teams, and became the youngest student to earn a spot on her high school's 1st netball team. Through the South African Netball Coaching Academy, her netball skills have taken her abroad, with tours to Italy and the UK. In 2024, she captained the U15A KZN touch rugby team to a second-place finish in Cape Town. Off the field, she continues to shine, achieving a 95% average in Grade 9 and 100% scores in Maths and Life Sciences in Grade 10. However, Bella now needs support to make her dream a reality. She is looking for sponsorship from corporate organisations, businesses, and individuals to help with the financial requirements of the tour. Every donation, big or small, would mean the world to her. Bella's mother, Ghita, expressed their pride in her accomplishments, saying, "There are no words that can describe how proud we are of Bella and all that she has accomplished, especially at such a young age. "Bella never ceases to amaze us, whether it's playing sports, cracking 100% in her exams, performing magic tricks or creating beautiful pieces of art... her talent is endless. "What we are most proud of is what a kind, gentle and empathetic young lady Bella is. She is always willing to help; she always gives 200% and we are honoured to be her parents."

Ever wondered why some sports teams perform far better than others, despite having similar levels of talent? One answer lies within the realm of communication, and in our latest conversation with the insightful retired NCAA coach, Pete Whitney, we shine a light on this often overlooked, yet critical aspect of team sports. Together, we explore the communication dynamic in hockey, tracing its influence from youth leagues up to the NCAA level, and discussing how it can often be the determining factor between a winning and losing team.Retired NCAA Coach Pete Whitney shines a spotlight on the multifaceted nature of communication on a hockey team. From 21-year-old freshman athletes to high school teams and younger, the necessity of creating a comfortable environment for meaningful exchanges is stressed upon. With a perfect blend of old-school values and new-age technology, we talk about how tools like group texts can foster team unity, while also emphasizing the human-driven elements of active engagement and trust-building. We also put forth some valuable perspective on coaching high school level teams - a feat that requires a deft balancing act of clear communication, expectation setting, and understanding the trials of growing athletes.Wrapping up our conversation, we cast our gaze on the younger rungs of the sports ladder, discussing strategies on how to develop effective communication skills in young athletes, all the way from U6 to U14 levels. Equating young players to molten lava, we underscore the need for adult guidance, patience, and the teaching of social etiquette to mould them into mature, respectful individuals. Biff and Jacques chat nick names as Jacques futbol son is on a team where lot of kids (including his 2 best pals) speak Portuguese and his name is Cabelo Longo (Long Hair) … it comes from a very sweet place … it will grow on him (see what I did there) but we LOVE it. ON OTHER HAND … Cabelo Longo's U14 teammates had racist things yelled to them in Futbol championship game in Amherst NH. Biff and Jacques have a hockey brother (Guitar Center Scottie) in LA whose Japanese Boy Band model looking son moved to Quebec to play prep school hockey … he was in Boston area so Jacques and his son got to see and hand out and really was a good day. Jacques family got to be in room while Management's boss talked with her pal who currently is on the ISS (yes, the International Space Station). A classic Joe Self Indulgent Theater, talk some of Jacques comedy stuff and how Taylor Swift is not an economy unto herself… and … she's awesome. Next it's Claremorris footballer Conor Diskin, who in recent months has had to cope with the tragic loss of his baby son Cillian and who then suffered a season-ending cruciate injury. We then hear from recently retired Mayo player Kevin McLoughlin who explains why he never did much in the way of media interviews during his time on the county team and who also talks about the pride his family took in his involvement with Mayo. Finally, newly appointed U20 manager Peadar Gardiner talks about his footballing philosophy and how he'll want his Mayo U20 team to play. This episode of the Mayo Football Podcast is now online and is available to listen to on iTunes, SoundCloud, Podomatic and Spotify. The Last of Us angelaufen. Last but not least gibt's Andys Indiespiele-Tipps des Monats, diesmal mit Lucy Dreaming, One Dreamer, Terror of Hemasaurus, Jack Move und Kynseed. Meryeta is an Olympic champion from Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. Four years after missing her first chance to compete at the Olympic Games due to injury, in 2018 (South Korea Winter Olympics), Meryeta O'Dine was a double medallist at the Beijing 2022 Olympics. She won bronze in the women's snowboard cross event and then teamed with Eliot Grondin to win bronze in the first Olympic mixed team snowboard cross event. In the latter, O'Dine was lauded for her effort to get up and finish the final after an Italian competitor landed on her coming off a jump. O'Dine says she experienced the most difficult year of her life in 2020. Just as the world was shutting down because of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, her brother Brandon lost his battle with cancer. She struggled with anxiety and depression but with lot of self-reflection and sessions with psychologists, she re-learned how to be an Olympic-level athlete. During the 2017-18 season, O'Dine recorded eight top-10 finishes on the World Cup circuit, which included making one big final and three small finals. She also won two medals with Zoe Bergermann in the women's team snowboard cross. Named to her first Olympic team, O'Dine unfortunately didn't get the chance to compete at PyeongChang 2018 when she suffered another concussion during training just two days before her event. She still ended the season ranked a career-best 11th in the World Cup SBX standings. Having last competed in January 2020, she returned to the World Cup circuit in January 2021. She achieved a personal highlight at the 2021 World Championships where she was fourth-fastest during the qualification round, a sign that she was back to being the athlete she knows she can be. O'Dine won the overall snowboard cross title on the Nor-Am Cup circuit in 2015-16, posting three victories in nine events. She finished a personal best fourth at the 2016 Junior World Championships. A year earlier O'Dine had enjoyed one of the greatest moments of her career when she won snowboard cross gold at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George. Having turned 18 just days earlier, she had to deal with the pressure of representing her hometown on her home mountain after more than two years of buildup. Her family had put in a lot of labour to prepare the course at Tabor Mountain, which was a great learning experience as she still uses the course to train and develop. A Little More About Meryeta: Getting into the Sport: Started snowboard lessons at age 12 but really disliked it; took a full season of twice-a-week lessons to learn to love it… In that first year she only snowboarded at night because she was so embarrassed she didn't want to be at the hill when it was busy… Slowly introduced to racing in heats, her father suggested competing in the U14 category at national championships; snowboard cross was familiar to her from a background in BMX racing… At 15 won the overall title on the BC provincial tour… Outside Interests: Enjoys drawing, reading sports science books, yoga… In the off-season enjoys playing beach volleyball, swimming, biking, wakeboarding, and rock climbing… Started her own landscaping company… Supports Prince George Hospice House, which helped her brother as he neared the end of his life and gave her a place to train in their gym… Odds and Ends: Favourite quote: “Appreciate what you have before time makes you appreciate what you had”… Has a pair of lucky socks… When she first started to travel she collected snow globes from every country she visited; keeps up the habit so that when she's older she can lay them all out at Christmas… If you'd like to learn more about Meryeta or purchase some of his amazing apparel, please visit https://www.meryeta.com/
