This month’s episode of Libra Radio we collaborated with Sagittarius Teep for his weekly radio show sewersounds on WMBR Cambridge, MA 88.1FM. Sewersounds is the undercurrent of electronix presented via a live-mix moodmat. You can tune into his OTA show tonight, his birthday December 17th 10-11pm EST on WMBR. Check out past shows under the Grit Chamber section of his website.We spoke with Teep about his process and concept behind sewersounds and what it’s like to be a Sagittarius on the radio.LR- How does being a Sagittarius relate to your relationship with music and curating music as a DJ? TEEP- Sagittarius is a collector of experiences and being ruled by Jupiter, is right at home on a quest for abundance. Week to week I crave new sounds and styles, admittedly to excess. Curation then is a process of finding optimism for songs that I think others will similarly enjoy. True to fire sign form, I want to share my enthusiasm for the music that makes it into my sets. I feel lucky when my instincts are affirmed, but in the end I don’t need that, as Sagittarius are content with being independent. After all, I’m just sharing what I already love.LR- What was your inspiration for this set / moodmat?TEEP- I have a vivid memory of an after party, in a basement somewhere in Brighton in the 90s, where the headliner from the night (Onionz) turned up and turned it out. The party was raw, sweaty, and totally jumping. The music was funky but deep and far out. So that’s the mood I tried to rep here. 100% underground after hours house party. If you were in that basement, you were dancing.LR- Tell us more about sewersounds. How it all started and your moodmats.TEEP- First, I need to give props to Unit Moebius who’s track on Interr-Ference HM1201 called “sewer” is certainly a part of the inspiration for sewersounds. The concept is just this, if commercial radio exists above the streets, the turf I’m interested in operating in, is under the manhole cover that is our logo. Or as my WMBR program guide show description reads "The undercurrent of electronix presented via a live-mix moodmat.” The moodmat concept was from the mind of Dan Sicko, who sought to unchain collections of music from genres that he felt would trap radio into a format. No question he was inspired by the Electrifying Mojo in this idea, to be guided to bring instead, a moodmat. Joeski steps up for Gangstercast 14 while his 'NY Raw' release (produced with Audio KoDe) for our label continues to do damage on the world's dance floors. The mix showcases Joeski at his best, with almost two hours of music including one of his favourite Latin infused summer joints.  Joeski says he "went back to his roots" on the mix and that it "represents my culture and who i am as an artist".  We hear that loud and clear at IAHG HQ! Talking about the I'm A House Gangster sound he says it's "raw, jackin, banging, hypnotic, deep in your face house music".  We hear that loud and clear too! Raised in Corona, a large Spanish area in the borough of Queens, New York, Joeski started playing house parties in 1989 and hasn't looked back since, staying true to the underground house sound throughout.  Building his reputation in the early 90's at New York clubs and events like The Limelight, NASA, Save The Robots, The Chocolate Factory and Together he was soon touring the world.  After building his studio and honing the craft of production at the end of the 90's, he exploded into people's attention with a series of tracks and remixes on Siesta, Tango, Electric Sol and more.  He also launched his own label Maya Records, which was highly sought after from the early releases thanks to his collaborations as part of 6400 Crew and outings with Onionz and D'Julz.  The label welcomed guests like Chus + Ceballos, Tony Senghore and Nick & Danny Chatelain. The early success led to remix work for the likes of Sneaker Pimps, Dajaé, Delacy, Dirty Vegas, Medway and DJ Sneak, and collaborations with DJ Chus, John Creamer and Stephan K, Steve Smith (Dirty Vegas) and Matthias Heilbronn.  The results have graced labels such as Hooj Choons, NRK, Ministry, Stealth and Junior Boys Own.

At an underground spot called Black Sheep, a great lineup was assembled for a very cool musical night. Nigel rolled into Miami earlier that evening and was amped to play and ready to go by the time he went on for his set alongside Keoki, Hipp E, Onionz, Pete Bones, Trace, etc... He dropped tracks from himself (first track and Madonna remix), Sasha, Ladytron, Guy Gerber, Mark Broom, Angel Alanis, and even a little Richard Cheese for some fun interlude action.
