Our latest Club Fusion entry spans a wide range of music, catching up on what we missed in January and February and previewing what's to come on dance floors in the next few weeks. There's plenty to talk about so let's dive in! John Summit returns with "Shiver," the follow-up to his massive 2023 hit "Where Are You Now," featuring another outstanding vocal performance by Hayla. While this track is a solid floor-filler, it may lean a bit too closely to the magic of its predecessor. However, that won't deter anyone from enjoying its deep atmosphere and haunting vocals. Summit also offers an exceptional update to Temper Trap's "Sweet Disposition," a song that never tires in its various versions. In fact, "Sweet Disposition" is on track to rival Underworld's "Born Slippy" as a DJ favorite for revitalization. Summit's take maintains the original's integrity while adding his unique flair to the track. Both releases are essential for any DJ set. Among the tracks we're excited about is Becky Hill's latest single, "Never Be Alone," from her forthcoming album. The D.O.D remix cleverly incorporates the bass synth riff from Armand Van Helden's 90s remix of "Spin Spin Sugar" by Sneaker Pimps, elevating an already stellar track on the dance floor. Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa also contribute new offerings. Ariana's "Yes, and?" has been stuck in our heads like glue, echoing Madonna's iconic "Vogue" and inspiring numerous mashups. Felix Jahen's version stays true to the original while giving it a contemporary lift. We eagerly anticipate Grande's next album. Dua Lipa's third album seems to explore similar themes as her groundbreaking "Future Nostalgia." Personally, I would have chosen "Training Season" over "Houdini" as the lead single (excluding "Dance the Night Away" from the "Barbie" soundtrack). The songs don't fall flat, but they lack the captivating edge of her previous work. Nevertheless, the remixes manage to elevate them for the dance floor, keeping Lipa relevant in the house music scene. It's time to spotlight emerging DJs you should be following, starting with AVALAN ROKSTON. Currently in Beatport's Top 10 with their remake of Moby's "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" they've also released "Faith," a song teased on TikTok for over a month that truly lives up to the hype. The emotional depth of "Faith" is undeniable, especially when the euphoria hits. Their remix of London Grammar's "Strong" from 2023, though new to us, is so impressive it deserves recognition among the top dance songs of last year and has been included here despite ...

We go deep on excellent 90s British alternative rock with this week's twofer. First up is the iconic Saffron of Republica! The band is best known for (and still make a nice living from) "Ready To Go", which is saying a lot for a band that only managed a couple albums. They have recently come back together to make some new music including their latest single "New York". Saffron discusses all of it, including her second life as a nurse. After that we talk with Sneaker Pimp lyricist Ian Pickering. They needed some help with their debut album so they called on their friend Ian to provide some lyrics, including the still potent "6 Underground", and they had hits! The band changed direction and Ian went back to normal, but these days he's focused on his new project The Noise Who Runs. His story is pretty unique. Although DJ Shadow turned trip-hop instrumentals into an American institution at the tail end of the ’90s, we can’t overlook the influence of pioneering English artists like Massive Attack, Portishead, and Sneaker Pimps earlier in the decade. Their unique placement of feminine falsettos over seductive, sample-and-synth-heavy soundscapes still inspires acts today, not just in the […] The post Komorebi: “The Fall” appeared first on KUT & KUTX Studios -- Podcasts.
After splitting from Depeche Mode in 1995, Alan Wilder focused his full attention on Recoil, his side-project going back to the mid-1980s. In 1997, the same year DM released "Ultra," Wilder released the fourth Recoil studio album, "Unsound Methods." Free to explore the electronic soundscape, Wilder enlisted several vocalists to tackle the electronic/trip-hop material, including Douglas McCarthy from Nitzer Ebb and NYC spoken word artist Maggie Estep. The result is both of the time and ahead of its time, fitting in nicely with the mid-90s trip-hop sounds of Massive Attack, Sneaker Pimps, and Portishead, while also foreshadowing the more experimental and cinematic sounds of James Lavelle's Unkle. Sky Eater Drops Dreamy and Sophisticated New Track "Sentimental" Bundjalung based mermaid trip-hop band Sky Eater are due to release their latest single, "Sentimental" on Friday June 2nd. This track is a contemporary fusion of trip-hop, soul, and pop reminiscent of acts like Morcheeba, Sneaker Pimps and Lamb. Chelsea's emotive melodies and layers of live instrumentation atop T.K's signature soundscape of gritty breakbeats and immersive effects will take the listener on an uplifting and emotive journey with heartfelt and relatable lyrics, evoking feelings of nostalgia and yearning. 'Sentimental'' also features the catchy dubbed out lines of Sky Eater's horn section: Elena Marcigot (MsEleneous) and Aya Samukawa (Pineapple Lazer). Their infectious character and sensitivity adds depth and colour to this ethereal earworm. "Sentimental" is the perfect addition to any playlist, with its hypnotic beats and beautiful vocals. It's a track that will appeal to fans of trip-hop, soul, and pop, as well as those looking for something new and refreshing. With a signature trip-hop/dub/dnb sound straight out of Mullum Hinterland, Sky Eater take their audiences on an uplifting, “mesmerising and elegant” (Nkechi - Roots n All, JJJ) journey that is full of soul and jazz moments. Think sparkly flute and sax lines, warm rhodes and pianos, mega bass and soaring vocals with the finest beat production and live manipulation, dub scientist styles.

We are delighted to be back with a sublime album from the late 90's to kick-off Season 2! North Carolinan trio, Ben Folds Five, released their second LP on the 18th of March 1997 with much trepidation after a challenging time recording the album, trying to perfect the sound and document 'an event' by shunning the recording studio in favour of Ben's dilapidated house in Chapel Hill. If you've listened to any of our episodes during season one, you'll know we'll cover the origins of the band, each song in turn (both musically and lyrically) and finish by each giving a rating for the record out of 10. You'll discover how an auction bidding war that Kate was involved in is linked to the album opening track... Before we get stuck in to all things BFF, we look back at 1997. What was in the UK album and single charts at this time, what were we watching at the movies and on the telly, and what was happening in the news? It was a time of political change in the UK, and musically, we were on the downward curve of Britpop, with boy-bands and girl-bands very prominent and dominating the higher reaches of the singles chart in particular. We talk about Bush, Dodgy, Cake, Kula Shaker, Gina G, Sash!, No Doubt, Wet Wet Wet, The Spice Girls, Blur, Mansun, Aqua, Chumbawumba, and Oasis amongst others. It was also the age of the 'hidden track' and we remember some heart stopping moments in discovering this new phenomena. In the movies, we recall the likes of Bound, Fierce Creatures, Ransom, Jerry Maguire and one of Kate's favourites, Mars Attacks! On the TV, we discuss Sunset Beach, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the launch of Channel 5 (featuring the Spice Girls of course) and The Teletubbies. Halcyon days! We have a new feature for Season 2 - 'Top 3's'. As we're named after a Marc Almond song, much to Kate's consternation, we started with our Top 3 Marc Almond / Soft Cell songs. She said it would have been easier choosing a favourite child!! Let us know yours... We talk to producer Liam Howe about songwriting methods, lyrics, nurturing new artists, seeing the big picture, and producing an album with only 1gb of data available! Liam Howe's band the Sneaker Pimps broke through in the 90s with their self-produced debut album Becoming X, scoring a hit on both sides of the Atlantic with their track 6 Underground. Having always aspired to be a producer, Liam has helped launch the careers of multiple stars, including Marina and the Diamonds, FKA Twigs, Ellie Goulding, and Lana Del Rey. Not to mention producing the debut album for Lawrence's first band, Official Secrets Act! The first new music from the Sneaker Pimps in nearly 20 years is out July 9th 2021, it's the first single from forthcoming album “Squaring The Circle”. The Process of Production is presented by Lawrence Diamond and Bob Matthews. Lawrence cut his teeth playing and writing in Indie bands before finding international success and touring the world with his band CITIZENS! During that time he worked with a host of revered producers including Liam Howe, Mark Ralph and Alex Kapranos. Since the band ended in 2016 he's been using that experience to help other artists develop their careers as a writer and producer while continuing to release his own music under various different guises. Bob learned his trade as the producer and multi-instrumentalist in Electronic Pop duo Alpines, whose career spans 3 albums, releases on major and indie record labels, shows with Florence + The Machine, The xx, Emeli Sandé, and a top 20 hit 'Tidal Wave' in collaboration with Sub Focus. In recent years he has turned his focus to producing other acts and has a studio in Chiswick in West London.

The Leaks Begin on the forthcoming IG Horowitz Report. CNN suffers momentary panic with Preet Bharara, describing the "really serious" news that an FBI Agent has been caught altering FISA documents. But the initial chills were soon dampened by additional leaks to the Washington Post and New York Times. We clarify our expectations for the IG Report -- probably spicier than standard Horowitz fare, thanks to oversight from AG Barr and John Durham. Thus far, the initial MSM protective spin has been surprisingly weak. Which means trouble ahead for The Perps. Good signs, as we await the real action from John Durham's investigation into the Origins of SpyGate, which now includes spook Stefan Halper's ties to the Pentagon's Office of Net Assessment. Meanwhile, Glenn Simpson of FusionGPS claims to have been duped by the Russian Natalia Veselnitskaya, while also claiming 'victim' status as his Black Ops continue to unravel. Totally Laughable. Plus, additional caller perspective on Ukraine from a former resident of Ukraine, eyewitness to corruption. Ukraine for sale, on the cheap. Also, we revisit the Golden Age we are now living in, along with the importance of cracking the MSM Propaganda Matrix in order to enjoy our lives. Setting our minds free from MSM tyranny. The power games of a failing Ruling Class. With Listener Calls & Music via Mike Ness and the Sneaker Pimps. Sacred Song from Brad Paisley. Farther Along.
