Ce siège restera célèbre non seulement pour son intensité, mais aussi pour l'utilisation d'une arme aussi surprenante qu'efficace : les cochons enflammés.Un siège implacableLe château de Rochester était une place forte réputée imprenable, avec ses épais murs de pierre et sa position défensive sur la Medway, un fleuve du sud de l'Angleterre. Les forces du roi Jean, bien décidées à reprendre la forteresse, tentèrent plusieurs assauts directs, sans succès. Les défenseurs, bien retranchés derrière leurs murs, résistèrent farouchement, obligeant les assiégeants à changer de tactique.Plutôt que d'attaquer frontalement, le roi Jean ordonna à ses troupes de creuser une mine sous la grande tour sud du château. L'idée était de saper les fondations pour provoquer son effondrement. A Thanet teenager is facing prison time after she threatened to kill her parents.18-year-old Zoe Dunn from Fairfield Road, Broadstairs,  had only just been released from court on a suspended sentence for beating them up at their home in Thanet on January 6th.Ahead of Donald Trump's inauguration, we've been hearing what his second presidency could mean for us here in Kent.Trump will be sworn into office - becoming the 47th President of the United States.From today, if you're driving around Medway you could be fined for breaking traffic rules at 17 locations across the Towns.ANPR cameras have been installed to catch motorists who do things like stopping in a yellow box junction or doing an illegal turn.Hotpots include Chatham High Street and Station Road in Strood.The recent budget has been blamed for the closure of a Medway restaurant within a distillery.Copper Rivet has been making gin since 2016 and opened The Pumproom in their converted Victorian building just over four years ago.Bosses at the site in Chatham Maritime say a hike in National Insurance contributions and rise in the minimum wage mean it's no longer financially viable.Police are investigating after £500 was stolen from a 90-year-old woman in Folkestone.Maria Lenko had withdrawn the cash from her bank and put it in a zip up pocket in her trolley.Football, and Gillingham have dropped to 16th in league two following a disappointing start in charge for new manager John Coleman.They were beaten 1-0 by Doncaster Rovers at Priestfield on Saturday.

The landlord of a pub in Dover says he's devastated as the owners want to close it and knock it down.The Bull Inn on London Road dates back 200 years, having first opened its doors in 1823, but it's due to shut at the end of February.Also in today's podcast, the number of people in hospital with flu in Kent has more than trebled in a month.Data shows 114 are being treated in the county - up from just 24 at the start of December. At this point in January last year the figure was 36.Hear from Dr Julian Spinks who is a GP in Medway.Kent could get a mayor in less than two years after a big decision was made on the future of how the county's set up at a local government level.There was an extraordinary meeting of the full council yesterday to decide what steps they want to take. We've got an update from Roger Gough who is the leader of Kent County Council.A report's found Medway Council's responsibility to provide support and access to adult social care "requires improvement".Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission have rated the authority in nine key areas and found staffing and recruitment are the main challenges. We've been speaking to the CQC.Wildlife campaigners are calling for a re-think on an energy project they say could disrupt significantly important habitats.Sea Link will allow National Grid to move electricity more efficiently around the country and will link Suffolk with Kent - coming onshore through Pegwell Bay. Hear from the Kent Wildlife Trust who're concerned about the impact.In sport, Fleetwood Town are the visitors to Priestfield this weekend for John Coleman's first game in charge of Gillingham.He's taken over from Mark Bonner who was sacked last weekend following a run of poor results.

Canterbury city centre has been closed off after a fire broke out at an abandoned former department store. Firefighters have been working through the night at the site of the old Debenhams – one person has been treated for smoke inhalation. Also in today's podcast, you can hear from a man who was fined for driving on a street where traffic is banned during term time even though the school was on holiday.He says he drove down the road in Chatham when the school was on half-term break and was shocked when he received the fine in the post. Two secondary schools could be closed by the government and reopened under new bosses after damning Ofsted inspections pushed them both into special measures.The sites were rated inadequate and have now been issued “termination warning notices”.Plans to turn an abandoned nightclub into flats have been scrapped as developers claim the housing market “isn't particularly strong”.Bosses in Ashford had given the green light for the transformation of the old Liquid site into housing, but it's been confirmed that's no longer happening. And a work is well underway to transform a former Kent gaol into a bustling cafe. It's all part of the £10.5 million renovation of Dover's Maison Dieu – you can hear from one of the coordinators about what it will all look like when it's finished.

There have been long delays on the M2 after a pedestrian was hit by a lorry.It happened on the coast bound carriageway between Sittingbourne and Faversham last night.It has been revealed a Canterbury man who killed his partner in a stabbing attack had his mental health referral closed on the same day.53-year-old David Creed from Long Acre Close attacked Catherine Granger in December 2020, just days after saying voices in his head were telling him to kill her. There has been a huge rise in the number of compensation claims for pothole damage in Kent.Figures have gone up from 655 in 2022 to more than 1,800 last year - raising concerns about the poor condition of the county's roads.Bosses in Medway say they are facing difficult decisions as they try to balance their budget.The council are facing an £11.2 million overspend this year, which is expected to increase to more than £26 million next year.Former Lib Dem politician Peter Carroll has been telling the Kent Politics Podcast why he decided to campaign for justice for Gurkhas.Until 2004 those who served in the British military weren't allowed to settle in the UK and were instead sent back to Nepal.Artwork created by children living through conflict in Syria has gone on display at Rochester Cathedral.The exhibition called Picturing Peace is a collection of 13 paintings from youngsters aged between nine and 12 about what "peace" means to them.And the hunt is on for a Sevenoaks lottery winner who is at risk of losing their prize.The mystery player won £10,000 a month for the next 30 years, but is yet to come forward.

As a dramaturg dedicated to new writing, Jenni has so many wonderful insights on finding your voice as a playwright, writing with a specific audience in mind, and the collaboration between a playwright, director and dramaturg when moving from text into production.About Jennifer Medway: Jennifer Medway is a dramaturg with over a decade of experience in developing new Australian plays. She is currently Melbourne Theatre Company's Head of New Work where she runs one of the largest play development programmes in the country. Prior to this, she was Melbourne Theatre Company's Literary Associate.
