At the ANC elective conference in December, President Cyril Ramaphosa and Zweli Mkhize will square off for the top position of party leader. Ramaphosa is well ahead after receiving 2,037 nominations from branches, while Mkhize only received 916. The ANC made public the top six candidates for the role of deputy president, including Paul Mashatile, Ronald Lamola, and Oscar Mabuyane. However, according to Kgalema Motlanthe, ANC's head of the electoral committee, the process is still open for objections and appeals, which might lead to a different outcome. He said this is the culmination of nominations received from branches, but delegates at the conference can also nominate from the floor. A total of 3 543 out of 3 982 branches in good standing have held successful Branch General Meetings which produced the approved outcomes of the nominations for both branch delegates and National Executive Committee (NEC) candidates. Ramaphosa received 2 037 nominations from branches for President while Mkhize received 916. For the position of ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile received 1 791 nominations, Ronald Lamola collected 427 and Oscar Mabuyane received 397. Battling it out for the National Chairperson position, Stanley Mathabatha collected 1 492 nominations, Gwede Mantashe received 979 votes and David Masondo received 501. For the Secretary-General position Mdumiseni Ntuli leads with 1 225 nominations, Phumulo Masuale received 889 and Fikile Mbalula garnered 749. Nomvula Mokonyane received 1 779 nominations for Deputy Secretary-General and Febe Potgieter received 905. Benjamin Chauke leads with 552 nominations for the position of In Treasure General, Pule Mabe received 428 and Mzwandile Masina received 349.

Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane has suspended the Provincial Superintendent General of the Department of Education, Dr. Naledi Mbude. The Department came under fire for failing to obey a court order to supply learner support material on time, the non-payment of education assistants last year -- and the loss of a 205-million rand conditional infrastructure grant from the national department, due to underspending. The Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has fired the MEC for Health, Sindiswa Gomba. COGTA MEC, Xolile Nqata, will act in Gomba's position until a replacement is named. Gomba is facing fraud and corruption charges related to the funeral of Nelson Mandela in 2013. The former superintendent general of the health department, Dr. Thobile Mbengashe, will also face disciplinary action in line with the findings of the SIU related to the procurement of the ambulance motorbikes last year. Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane, has announced that the former superintendent general of the provincial Health Department, Dr Thobile Mbengashe, will face disciplinary action - following the SIU's findings relating to last year's procurement of ambulance scooters intended to assist Covid19 patients. Speaking during a media briefing in Bisho, Mabuyane also announced that Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba has been relieved of her duties - after she was charged with corruption and fraud linked to the Nelson Mandela Funeral scandal. The alleged fraud amounts to 10-million rand that was siphoned from the Buffalo City Municipality, by flouting tender processes during the Mandela funeral in 2013. Mabuyane says Gomba will remain a member of the provincial legislature.
