ActionSA is preparing legal papers to challenge the classification of the IPID report into the Phala Phala investigation as "Top Secret". The party argues the decision is an attempt to keep the report from the public and is challenging the constitutionality of the Minimum Information Security Standards policy. The report relates to the investigation into the conduct of Presidential Protection Unit members at Phala Phala, with the Public Protector previously finding their actions constituted maladministration. ActionSA says the report's classification is likely to be looked upon unfavourably by courts, given the criteria for Top Secret classification. Elvis Presslin spoke to ActionSA National Chairperson, Michael Beaumont

In a damning report, Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka has given Eastern Cape COGTA MEC Zolile Williams 90 days to act against officials involved in the R15 million Leeseyton Sports Field in the Enoch Mgijima Municipality. If you don't remember this story, let me refresh your memory a little bit. It was an open field with what appeared to be grandstands yet no athletics tracks, soccer field, ablution facilities etc. in sight. Remember how the picture of a ribbon that was to be cut yet there was nothing there drew outrage from many including political parties. The Public protector has found the tender process was flawed and was awarded to the fourth-highest bidder after a shortened advertising period. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Public Protector South Africa spokesperson , Khulu Phasiwe

The ANC in the Eastern Cape has condemned AfriForum's attempt to pressure the NPA into reviewing a case against Premier Oscar Mabuyane and ANC NEC member Babalo Madikizela. AfriForum's push for private prosecution relates to the alleged misuse of funds for transporting mourners to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's funeral in 2018. The ANC has labeled this move as "unethical and illegal," claiming it undermines the NPA's independence and noting that the issue was already resolved by the Public Protector, High Court, and NPA. In this interview with BizNews, Roy Jankielsohn, the Democratic Alliance (DA) leader in the Free State, gives an update on political developments in the province. He expresses the hope that with the arrest - and impending extradition from the US - of Ace Magashule's former PA, that there will be convictions for corruption. He also details the findings of a Public Protector's report into the R6-million funeral for an MEC, in which a cap on State funerals is recommended. Another cause for optimism is the way national political developments have impacted the province's politics where, for the first time since 1994, opposition parties have received chairpersonships of committees within the Free State Legislature. However, a huge concern remains cross-border crime, including human trafficking , drug smuggling, cattle rustling, and vehicle smuggling. But Jankielsohn has faith that the appointment of crime fighter Ian Cameron as Chair of the Portfolio Committee on Police in Parliament, will lead to improvements in law enforcement.
South Africa's Public Protector Exposes Failings in GBV Victim Support and Justice System by Radio Islam
The National Assembly (NA/Parliament) has taken a significant step by adopting a transformational amendment to its rules and guidelines for petitions. According to the country's highest legislative body, these regulations have been introduced to foster more open, transparent and responsive legislative processes. Previously, public petitions required an MP to act as an intermediary between the House and a member of the public. This decision has been as a progressive by parliament. The questions remains on how this will work, seeing that we had the Public Protector's office and the National Council of Provinces where citizens could be able to voice that grievances. What happens to the other institutions? Will people still be able to access them? How will the process work?
