Vinney Chopra arrived in America with just $7 — and built a billion-dollar real estate career on one principle: when the student is ready, the mentor appears. In this clip he shares how to find the need within, why silence and introspection unlock your next level, and the truth that if the man is right, the world is right. Mentors are all around you — in books, on YouTube, in podcasts. You just have to be ready.
This week on Drinking from the Gardenhose, OB and ED tackle some of life's greatest mysteries: Why do birds treat ED's driveway like a bombing range? Why hasn't ED's brilliant concept of the "anti-Shiva" caught on? And at what exact age does hearing Pantera in the grocery store become a life-changing event? The guys discuss neighborhood bird warfare, celebrate a rare and glorious text message from OB's wife admitting he was right!, and compare notes on the strange moments that remind you you're not as young as you used to be. Along the way, OB shares stories from the kendo dojo, including an exchange with a teenage student that went hilariously off the rails, and previews an upcoming family adventure to Switzerland. It's a mix of unexpected victories, aging revelations, family stories, and the kind of observations that can only happen when you're old enough to remember Pantera on MTV but young enough to still argue with birds. After months of uncertainty and a nationwide campaign to protect the role of Special Needs Assistants, the Save Our SNAs Campaign Group is welcoming the publication of a new Department of Education circular outlining the role of SNAs in schools. The updated guidance replaces a previous circular that sparked concern among SNAs, parents and educators, with fears that the role could be restricted and that some children with additional needs could lose out on vital support. Campaigners say the new circular represents an important step forward, particularly with the explicit recognition of students' communication and regulation needs. To discuss what the changes mean for SNAs, students and families, and whether concerns about the future of the profession have now been addressed, Alan Morrissey was joined by Ennis Fianna Fáil Councillor and Special Needs Assistant, Antoinette Baker Bashua. A Halloween night ghost hunt inside Morgan-Monroe State Forest turned into one of the strangest Bigfoot encounters ever shared on Bigfoot Society.Jake describes seeing glowing yellow eyes staring at him from the tree line near a Revolutionary War cemetery outside Martinsville. Moments later, he realized he was looking at a towering black-haired creature standing nearly nine feet tall. Then things got even stranger.Jake says the creature appeared to walk directly into a tree… disappear completely… and later emerge from that same tree while silently watching him from only feet away. For several minutes, the witness and the creature stood frozen in complete silence surrounded by a dead-still forest with no insects, no crickets, and no sound except their breathing. If you enjoy eyewitness encounters that feel cinematic, unsettling, and deeply personal, this is an episode you need to hear all the way through.Listen now on Bigfoot Society.

State Rep. John Martin (R-Columbia) gives Missouri's recently-completed 2026 session a grade of an A-minus or a B-plus. Representative Martin joined hosts Randy Tobler and Stephanie Bell live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Missouri", telling listeners that he's disappointed that property tax reform died during the session's final week. But Martin praises lawmakers for placing a proposal on the August ballot to gradually phase out Missouri's state income tax. He also touts passing of juvenile justice legislation:
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe (R) praises the 2026 session in Jefferson City and thanks legislative leaders for helping to accomplish that. Governor Kehoe joined Randy Tobler and Stephanie Bell live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Missouri". The governor doesn't like the idea of a special session to suspend Missouri's 29-cent state gas tax until December, saying that would put thousands of construction workers out of jobs:

Life is a series of ups and downs for all of us. We have no choice about where and into what era we're born, who we will encounter throughout our lives, and what circumstances we may face. Our navigation system APPEARS to be the thoughts we have about life, but it isn't. Thoughts are the ideas and images we bring to mind, sometimes intentionally, sometimes randomly. But the feelings engendered by our thoughts are the true navigation system. What we make of our thoughts, how seriously we take them, whether we recognize negative thoughts as red flags, matters. When negative thoughts and feelings appear to be important and meaningful -- things we must take seriously and deal with -- we slip into a downward spiral unintentionally. When we wake up and remember negative thoughts and feelings are Caution signs on the road of life, we can slow down, quiet our minds, allow those thoughts to pass, and soon we get fresh ideas and a better perspective. We pass through "thought storms" just like travelers on a road trip pass through thunderstorms. The same advice works: slow down, trust yourself to get through it, and soon you'll see the sun again.Support the show

When it comes to the phenomenon that is consciousness, there is one point on which scientists, philosophers, and artists all agree: it feels like something to be us. Yet the fact that we have a subjective experience of the world remains one of nature's greatest mysteries. How is it that our mental operations are accompanied by feelings, thoughts, and a sense of self? What would a scientific investigation of our inner life look like when we have as little distance and perspective on it as fish do of the sea? In A World Appears, Michael Pollan traces the unmapped continent that is consciousness, bringing radically different perspectives—scientific, philosophical, literary, spiritual, and psychedelic—to see what each can teach us about this central fact of life. When neuroscientists began studying consciousness in the early 1990s, they sought to explain how and why three pounds of spongy gray matter could generate a subjective point of view — assuming that the brain is the source of our perceived reality. Pollan takes us to the cutting edge of the field, where scientists are entertaining more radical (and less materialist) theories of consciousness. He introduces us to "plant neurobiologists" searching for the first flicker of consciousness in plants, scientists striving to engineer feelings into AI, and psychologists and novelists seeking to capture the felt experience of our slippery stream of consciousness. In Pollan's exploration of consciousness, he discovers a world far deeper and stranger than our everyday reality. Eye-opening and mind-expanding, A World Appears takes us into the laboratories of our own minds, ultimately showing us how we might make better use of the gift of awareness to more meaningfully connect with our deepest selves. Michael Pollan is the author of ten books, including This Is Your Mind on Plants, How to Change Your Mind, Cooked, Food Rules, In Defense of Food, The Omnivore's Dilemma, and The Botany of Desire, all of which were New York Times bestsellers. He is also the author of the audiobook Caffeine. A Guggenheim and Radcliffe Fellow, Pollan has taught writing at the University of California, Berkeley, and at Harvard University. In 2010, Time named him one of the one hundred most influential people in the world. Jon Mooallem is the author of three books, Wild Ones, This is Chance! and the essay collection Serious Face.
