(INTERVIEW): Keith talks with NY Daily News Giants beat reporter Pat Leonard about the Russell Wilson signing, how it affects their draft strategy and more.
(HOUR 2): Keith talks with Pat Leonard of the Daily News about the Giants signing of Russell Wilson. He then gets into the comments made by Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto about the Mets and Yankees co-existing.
Pat Leonard of The New York Daily News is reporting how the Giants continue to fall in their pursuit of a quarterback. Mason Rudolph wasn't interested in the Giants and wanted to go back to the Steelers. Mel Kiper has Jaxson Dart going 9th to New Orleans and Jack Ham blames Starkey! Jack also likes Dart as an option.
Could QB Shedeur Sanders really fall to he Steelers at No. 21 in the NFL draft, as a new mock draft from the Athletic's Dane Brugler suggested this week? Would that be the right pick for GM Omar Khan, Mike Tomlin and Co. as they weigh other QB options including Justin Fields, Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers? Especially given the spotlight father Deion Sanders brings to his son's career? And how much should we make of Sanders' comments and meetings at the NFL combine, which reportedly did not go over well with some teams? Paul tackles those questions and more. Including: What should we make of Ben Roethlisberger's comments favoring Fields in the QB conversation? And would the New York Giants' Darius Slayton be a needle-moving pickup for the Steelers in NFL free agency, as New York Daily News beat writer Pat Leonard has suggested?

Send us a textIn this live episode of "2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates," Drew and Rob dive deep into all the latest news surrounding the Giants, with an emphasis on how injuries and potential veteran signings are shaping the team's future. The duo starts off by celebrating a major milestone in Giants history as Tom Coughlin, advances to the next round of Pro Football Hall of Fame voting. It's a proud moment for Giants fans, and Drew and Rob reflect on Coughlin's legacy, his leadership, and how he transformed the team during his tenure. Also in consideration for the Hall of Fame is former Giants head coach Dan Reeves. The conversation quickly shifts to a pressing issue for the Giants: the offensive line. With mounting injuries and inconsistent play, the team may be forced to explore the free agent market to bolster their tackle position. According to a report from Pat Leonard, head coach Brian Daboll has indicated the possibility of adding a veteran tackle, but the team hasn't yet announced any specific visits or signings. Drew and Rob discuss some potential candidates, starting with Donovan Smith, a 31-year-old veteran with nine years of NFL experience, most notably with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While Smith has had a solid career, his recent performance with the Kansas City Chiefs raised concerns, as he posted just a 55.4 blocking grade for the 2024 season. Other options include David Bakhtiari, a five-time All-Pro at 33 years old, but his multiple surgeries on his left knee make him a risky proposition. Another significant development is the health of rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, who has cleared concussion protocol, much to the relief of Giants fans. Drew and Rob discuss the impact of Nabers returning to the lineup and how his presence could give a much-needed spark to the offense, especially with Daniel Jones needing all the help he can get to regain his form.As the Giants prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, injuries continue to dominate the headlines. TE Dallas Goedert and left tackle Jordan Mailata dealing with hamstring injuries and already ruled out. The loss of these starters will undoubtedly impact Philadelphia's game plan, especially with backup tight end Grant Calcaterra stepping in after a strong showing last week with 67 receiving yards. Other notable injuries for the Eagles include standout defensive tackle Jalen Carter (shoulder), who has been a force for their defense this season, and cornerback Eli Ricks (groin), both of whom have been added to the injury report.Meanwhile, the Giants have their own list of injuries to manage. Star pass rusher Brian Burns is dealing with a groin injury, and punter Jamie Gillan is nursing a left hamstring issue. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and cornerback Adoree' Jackson are both dealing with injuries, with Jackson's neck injury raising significant concerns for the secondary. The episode wraps up with a look ahead to the remainder of the Giants' season, with Drew and Rob discussing potential strategies to navigate their injury-ridden roster and how adding a veteran tackle could be a game-changer for their offensive line struggles.Support the showAll Episodes are shot LIVE with fan interactions on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, & TwitchSponsor the show at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsInterested in starting a podcast. Spencer Graham and Eric Metcalf are joined by Pat Leonard, a New York Daily News reporter and host of Talkin' Ball, to discuss the pressures facing head coach Brian Daboll and quarterback Daniel Jones as they prepare to face the Cleveland Browns. They emphasize the critical aspects of the game, which will be the strong run game, stopping the run on both sides, and the coaching battle between Brian Daboll and Kevin Stefanski to see who can out scheme the other. They also touch on the importance of shutting down Malik Nabers and the connection between Ken Dorsey and Brian Daboll, as Dorsey used to work under Daboll in Buffalo. Eric Metcalf emphasizes that Deshaun Watson is not the same player he once was and needs to focus on playing mistake-free football rather than trying to win the game for the Browns single-handedly. Boomer is loving QB Michael Penix Jr. Gio said if you are a GM and head coach, and you go down in flames, you want to go down with a QB you picked. Boomer said the combine is where GMs start ‘to fall in love with all of these players'. We took a few calls from guys that work for the MTA complaining about working there and how congestion pricing is a scam. Jerry returns for an update but first there were some students in with Eddie and Al during the break and Eddie gave them career advice. Jerry starts with the Knicks losing again, this time to the Warriors. Xavier McKinney was on the Pat Leonard podcast and talked about wanting to stay with the Giants his entire career. QB Drake Maye talked about meeting with the Giants. JJ McCarthy also met with the Giants and talked about presenting them plays on what he would do in certain situations. Gio remembers being screened for scoliosis in grade school and how odd that situation was. The Moment of The Day involves Jerry Jones having to take a paternity test. In the final segment of the show, we talked more about being checked for scoliosis and for lice. Gio had a dream he had to kill BT because he turned into a zombie.
Hour 1 Gio is officially checking out of the Knicks right now. They have so many injuries and keep losing. Gio said he can never be happy as a NY sports fan. Boomer said they just have to hang on until the playoffs when they should have their injured players back. Gio said all this injury crap started last year with Edwin Diaz and Aaron Judge. Then Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. Then Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones for our football teams. And now the injuries are killing the Knicks. Evan Roberts has a book called, ‘My Mets Bible', and we discussed it. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with the sounds from last night's Knicks loss. Charles Barkley joined Instagram even though he said he would never go on social media. Tylor Megill is working on a ‘spork-ball'. Jerry has audio of Bob Costas from his old show, Later, with Richard Lewis as a guest. Costas was over the top laughing at things that weren't even funny. In the final segment of the hour, a new hero emerges at the congestion pricing public hearing. Hour 2 Gio was watching some of the NFL combine yesterday. Caleb Williams showed up at the combine but declined medical evaluation. Gio wonders why Phil Simms isn't there as he likes to evaluate QBs by grabbing at their lower halves. We also talked about the NFL touchback rule with a ball that's fumbled out of the endzone. Boomer doesn't like the rule but it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere anytime soon. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Warriors beating the Knicks. Snoop Dogg went down his list of top NBA players in the league right now. Gio would love to see Snoop doing NBA coverage on TNT. Peter King had Boomer number 2 on his all time favorite QBs to deal with in his career. Peyton Manning was number 1. In the final segment of the hour, Shaun Morash told a terrible ‘dad joke' yesterday. We also thumbed through Evan's new book, ‘My Mets Bible'. One of the games involved Gio in L.A. and the Ryan Church game. There was a Vin Scully story involving the word ‘penis'. Hour 3 We talked about the Patriots documentary series on AppleTV+ called ‘Dynasty'. It covers everything from Tom Brady/Drew Brees, spygate and deflategate. Jerry Jones will have to take a paternity test after a 26 year old woman claims he is her father. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Knicks losing to the Warriors. There's also a story of Pat Riley taking all of the cookies off the plane and ticking off LeBron James back in the day. WGN anchor claims to be the original ‘penis pioneer' although Al Dukes believes he is. A woman proposes to a man on Australian TV. In the final segment of the hour, Shohei Ohtani got married. He said she's ‘a normal Japanese woman'. Hour 4 Boomer is loving QB Michael Penix Jr. Tommy backs WInk in the Pat Leonard report
Pat Leonard of the Daily News has a story about the relationship between Brian Daboll and Wink Martindale. It's pretty clear that Wink or one of his minions is the one who gave the story to the Daily News. And Boomer said, that sucks. Gio said Giants fans should not be alarmed by this as Brian Daboll is a leader of men. Boomer dropped a weird mention about Bill Belichick to the Giants. Gio said they're not doing that. Boomer said he is wondering aloud. Jerry returns for his final update of the day but first we talked about Gio's love of golf. Jerry has sound from last night's Bucs victory over the Eagles. Boomer is amazed at the number of fast wide receivers in the league most people have never heard of. Nick Sirianni talked about the Eagles' collapse after starting 10-1. Josh Allen talked about his long TD run. Some people think he did a fake slide motion. Jerry went around the NBA last night. The Moment of The Day involves a caller named Linda, who has an idea on how to speed up NFL games when it comes to injured players on the field (she wants to roll them off the field). In the final segment of the show, Boomer dropped some crumbs earlier this hour, suggesting that Belichick and the Giants could get involved with each other. We talked about job openings in the NFL. The Raiders players really want Antonio Pierce to stay as their Head Coach. Gio talked about watching a stand alone NFL game and how many commercial breaks they take. You can normally flip to commercial free Red Zone, but you can't do that during the playoffs.
Pat Leonard of the Daily News had an article about Brian Daboll's composure on the sideline being the thing that caused a rift between him and Wink Martindale. We loved when Daboll was yelling at Daniel Jones on the sidelines. This had to come from Wink and his assistants to try and prove they were not the problem. Gio said it's petty and there's nothing in the article that makes him dislike Daboll. Boomer said John Harbaugh probably got sick of Wink which is why he dropped him. Boomer told Wink, ‘put your name on it'. Boomer said Jerry Jones did not look good physically after the game, but he may have been fooled by an internet meme. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Bucs beating the Eagles in Tampa. Jalen Hurts is hoping to find a positive in what happened to them at the end of the season. Seth Joyner, on the Eagles postgame show, was very critical of the team. The Bills beat the Steelers 31-17. Sean McDermott talked about the Josh Allen long TD run. Jerry went around the NBA and NHL last night. In the final segment of the hour, Gio is watching some documentary on Max about a kidnapping of a bus full of kids in the 1970's. It happened in Chowchilla, California. A woman named Linda calls in and wants the NFL to roll injured players onto the sideline to tend to them there. She wants to save time.
Hour 1 We are off TV today until 8:30 am because of women's field hockey. We talked about Josh Allen and the Bills and how he runs and sometimes slides and sometimes doesn't slide and the defenders don't know what to do. There was also a fumble recovery on the sideline by Buffalo that they kept as not a fumble recovery. Mason Rudolph played pretty good in the second half but his interception in the end zone really hurt them. Gio is now rooting for the Bills to be in the Super Bowl for the AFC. We went over the spreads for NFL Divisional Weekend. The Eagles showed a lack of effort in last night's game. People are calling for Nick Sirianni's job. Things got so bad for the Eagles they failed at their tush push. Boomer said neither game was that compelling. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with audio from last night's Bucs win over the Eagles. Nick Sirianni talked about starting 10-1 and ending the way they did. Seth Joyner, on the Eagles postgame, said Jalen Hurts played uninspired. He also talked about the lack of tackling. The Bills beat the Steelers 31-17. Sean McDermott talked about Bills Mafia showing up to sit in the snow. Mike Tomlin said they just weren't good enough. He also walked away from the podium when he was asked about his future and his contract. Jerry went around the NBA and NHL last night. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer wonders if the NFL will keep Wild Card Weekend the way it happened this year. 2 games Saturday, 2 Sunday and 2 Monday. Boomer said the NFL will eventually add an 18th game and move the Super Bowl to the Sunday before Presidents Day. We also talked about NBC bragging about the Peacock viewing numbers. Hour 2 Pat Leonard of the Daily News had an article about Brian Daboll's composure on the sideline being the thing that caused a rift between him and Wink Martindale. We loved when Daboll was yelling at Daniel Jones on the sidelines. This had to come from Wink and his assistants to try and prove they were not the problem. It happened in Chowchilla, California. A woman named Linda calls in and wants the NFL to roll injured players onto the sideline to tend to them there. She wants to save time. Hour 3 Eagles Center Jason Kelce is retiring. Probably the best Center in his generation. The remaining QBs in the NFC are Jordan Love, Baker Mayfield, Jared Goff and Brock Purdy. A caller thinks the NFL is getting ruined by penalties and all the players looking for a free 15 yards. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Jason Kelce retiring. He has audio from the Super Bowl parade where he sounds like a crazy pro wrestler. The Bucs beat the Eagles last night as Philadelphia played like a defeated team. Eagles radio broadcaster Seth Joyner said Nick Sirianni is not long for this job. The Bills beat the Steelers 31-17. Mike Tomlin appreciates the effort, but that doesn't get it done. We also heard the radio call of the Josh Allen long TD run. In the final segment of the hour, Hulk Hogan helped a girl whose car flipped over and his new wife Tweeted about it. Hour 4 Pat Leonard of the Daily News has a story about the relationship between Brian Daboll and Wink Martindale. It's pretty clear that Wink or one of his minions is the one who gave the story to the Daily News. And Boomer said, that sucks.
