On this week's show the guys open up with a discussion on Josh Allen after hearing from the 4th-year quarterback today after practice. They talk about where he's struggled, what has gone right, how the passing game may be able to get it going, and why Brian Daboll and Sean McDermott have liked some of what Allen has done. Then the conversation turns to pass rusher A.J. Epenesa, who had a monster game against the Dolphins. The guys then welcome in Sam Fortier from The Washington Post to provide some early insight into the Football Team. The guys close the show out as has become custom with Sara Holland's chat wrap."Shout!" Buffalo Bills (86) & Kansas City Chiefs (88) - Team Preview

The Simple Handicap

The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs are the two top ranked teams entering the 2021 NFL season. Everything that both of these two teams do all season will be intertwined. For the Bills, the biggest question is whether the 2020 season was the peak for Josh Allen? Is is possible we have seen his best year as a QB? With viable options at 3rd and 4th string WR, how much better will Brian Daboll be in 2021? After getting snubbed for HC jobs, will he push the early game and down passing further this season?  The Chiefs are favored in all 16 games this season and have the highest win total - for good reason. In each year that Andy Reid has been head coach the team has exceeded its win total. With the best QB in the league behind a rebuilt offensive line, what is the ceiling for this offense? Spagnulo made a concerted effort to retain safeties and players in the secondary. Is KC a step further ahead than we think compared to other teams in the AFC?

The Buffalo Bills ran their preseason win streak to seven with a thoroughly dominant 41-15 trouncing of the Chicago Bears Saturday afternoon at Soldier Field. There was plenty to like from the win, along with several areas where the Bills can improve, and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico give you their thoughts on what they liked and what they didn't like after Buffalo improved to 2-0 this preseason. Among the players who made a favorable impression on our podcasters: Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who effectively ran Brian Daboll's offense, guiding the Bills to touchdowns on their first four possessions while completing 20 of 28 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. Rookie edge rusher Greg Rousseau, who came up with a sack and three quarterback hurries on just nine snaps. Fellow defensive ends A.J. Epenesa and Carlos "Boogie" Basham Jr., who helped Buffalo's pass rush generate four sacks and 12 QB hits while causing chaos in the backfield. Running backs Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, who averaged 7.0 yards per carry in rushing for 42 yards on six carries. Singletary eluded the defense and broke off a 14-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-one, while Moss nearly scored on a nifty 11-yard scamper. Wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie, who rebounded from an early muff of a punt to catch seven passes for 72 yards. Tackle Spencer Brown, who played well at both left and right tackle and held his own going up against Khalil Mack. Wide receiver/returner Marquez Stevenson, who broke off an electrifying 79-yard punt return for a TD. Tight end Jacob Hollister, who might be pushing Dawson Knox for the TE1 role. Safety Damar Hamlin and cornerbacks Rachad Wildgoose and Nick McCloud. Those whose performances were less than stellar included: Tackle Bobby Hart, whose poor play along the offensive line could get one of Buffalo's quarterbacks hurt. Tight end Dawson Knox, who continues to struggle with drops and consistency. Quarterbacks Davis Webb and Jake Fromm, who failed to build upon a successful preseason opener. Cornerback Siran Neal, who was badly beaten on a long touchdown pass before halftime. Injuries, as Brown, Stevenson, Harrison Phillips, Dane Jackson (stinger), and Tommy Doyle all left the game with injuries. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico continue their offseason State of the Bills series of podcasts by breaking down and reviewing the contributions the Bills got from their running backs during the 2020 season. The Bills set a franchise record for points scored in a season (501) and tied the record for most wins in a season (13) despite getting below-average and inconsistent production from their running backs. From general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott to offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, everyone at One Bills Drive has agreed that the Bills need to run the football better in 2021. Devin Singletary led the team with 687 yards while Zack Moss had 481, and they averaged 4.4 and 4.3 yards per attempt, but after how Singletary finished during his rookie season and after the Bills spent a third-round pick on Moss, most Bills fans went into 2020 thinking the team had a strong 1-2 tandem in the ground game. That wasn't the case this year, as Buffalo ranked 25th in the NFL in yards gained by running backs (T.J. Yeldon and Antonio Williams added 133 combined rushing yards). The Bills had the fourth-highest percentage of runs that were stuffed, plays that lost yards or gained nothing, or one out of every 9.7 attempts. While much of the blame can be placed on an offensive line that often failed to open up holes and used seven different starting combinations, how much of the blame should be placed on the backs? Do the Bills need to add to the running back group to find more balance in 2021? We dissect what the Bills can do to fix their ailing ground game and run through the strengths and weaknesses of Singletary and Moss, highlighting where each back improved in 2020 while offering up areas for improvement in 2021. We sift through the rest of the backs (including Williams, free agents T.J. Yeldon and Taiwan Jones, and fan favorite Christian Wade) to see what the Bills have at running back, discussing whether Beane should use pick No. 30 to upgrade the running back room, whether there are any free agents who make sense to sign, and more. What a season it was for the AFC East champs... but now some difficult decisions loom. What exactly do the Bills need to do to become Super Bowl champs? This very well could be the most important offseason in franchise history, from navigating Josh Allen's contract extension, to finding a pass rusher who scares coordinators to, who knows, maybe hearing from Stefon Diggs or Cole Beasley on a new deal.  It was a fascinating conversation.
