06/09/26 Hour 1: Illinois Football lands 3-Star Quarterback Sladen Shack - what you need to know; Cardinals vs Mets and Cubs vs Rockies Preview Illinois football added another piece to its future quarterback room as three-star 2027 signal caller Sladen Shack from Brandon, Mississippi announced his commitment to Bret Bielema and the Illini. The 6-foot-1, 211-pound quarterback chose Illinois over offers from Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, UConn, South Florida, East Carolina and others. Shack is rated as one of Mississippi's top prospects in the Class of 2027 and becomes Illinois' quarterback commitment for the cycle after the staff reset its recruiting board this spring. Illinois coaches Art Sitkowski and Barry Lunney Jr. prioritized Shack following strong evaluations and an official visit to Champaign. The commitment continues Illinois' recent pipeline into Mississippi, following the success of former Illini quarterback Luke Altmyer. Then we shift to baseball as the Cardinals open a three-game series against the Mets at Citi Field. St. Louis enters the matchup at 35-28 and currently holds the top National League Wild Card position, while New York sits at 29-36 but comes home with momentum after winning series against both San Diego and Seattle. Young stars Jordan Walker and JJ Wetherholt continue to fuel the Cardinals' surprising season, while the Mets welcome catcher Francisco Alvarez back from the injured list ahead of the series opener. The matchup features two teams trying to strengthen their playoff positioning in a crowded National League race. Meanwhile, the Cubs begin a six-game season series with the Rockies at Coors Field. Chicago enters the series looking to gain ground after an inconsistent stretch, while Colorado continues rebuilding after a difficult 2025 campaign. The probable pitching matchups feature Colin Rea vs. Tomoyuki Sugano, Shota Imanaga vs. Michael Lorenzen, and Edward Cabrera vs. Ryan Feltner. Despite Colorado's struggles, Coors Field has historically been a difficult place for the Cubs, making this an important road test as they try to stay in the National League playoff picture.
The Mets manager discusses Freddy Peralta start today, Jonah Tong's development, and the latest on the rehab assignments of Jorge Polanco, Kodai Senga and Francisco Alvarez.
Joe DeMayo joins The Three Inning Fan Show to break down the state of the Mets in most entertaining fashion: Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, and Francisco Alvarez - the former prospect core - and how they fit into the Mets' plans now and in the future; Nolan McLean, Christian Scott, Freddy Peralta and what they need to do to propel this team forward; and whether the Mets are buy, sell or hybrid at the trade deadline. As co-Host of The Mets Pod, Joe brings his in-depth knowledge of the Mets and their farm system to the fore and explains it for all of us. And of course he tells us…what's good to eat while watching the ballgame. *Music by Podington Bear

Anthony Franco joins Darragh McDonald to discuss the Mariners calling up Colt Emerson, whether Patrick Corbin and Spencer Miles can keep the Blue Jays' rotation afloat, the state of the Dodgers' rotation with Blake Snell on the IL and the team acquiring Eric Lauer from Toronto, if the Mets can crawl back into contention despite the injuries to Francisco Alvarez and Clay Holmes, and Jose Altuve's oblique strain and the Astros overall struggles.Listener email topics include who the biggest positive surprises have been so far this year, and if the Dodgers could leverage their glut of outfield prospects at the trade deadline.
The 2026 edition of Rivalry Weekend has arrived, and there are a few matchups that are even more exciting this year than in previous years. While the Subway Series between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets will certainly grab headlines, it's the battle on the South Side that has suddenly become one of the most exciting series thanks to both teams' recent play. On this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman break down each of the Rivalry Weekend matchups, including the Mets riding a winning streak while the Yankees look to turn their fortunes around, and the first time the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox have faced off with both teams over .500 in 18 years. They also highlight Shohei Ohtani facing off against Mike Trout and the battle of the Bay Area. Later, Jake and Jordan take a look at the updated injury news surrounding Tarik Skubal and why it's an encouraging sign, as well as Max Fried, Cal Raleigh and Francisco Alvarez being slated to miss some time. The guys then make their picks for this week's edition of The Good, The Bad & The Uggla. 1:19 - The Opener: Rivalry Weekend 6:17 - The Subway Series 14:10 - Crosstown Series 26:44 - Around The League: Skubal update 38:22 - Other injuries popping up 44:20 - The Good, The Bad & The Uggla Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:
Happy Friday, daylight burners! Matt and Eric ride solo today (Jake's back Sunday) to recap a rough Thursday on the homer front and set up a loaded Rivalry Weekend. The A's drop a 5-4 heartbreaker to the Cardinals — Kurtz extends his on-base streak to 37 games with a leadoff bomb (two shy of Giambi's '98 A's record), but the bullpen coughs up the lead. The Rockies get rolled 7-2 in Pittsburgh as Ryan O'Hearn goes 3-for-4 with a two-run shot and Chase Dollander exits early with right forearm soreness. The Tigers get swept by the Mets 9-4, A.J. Ewing's first big league homer caps the Mets' five-homer barrage, and Hinch gets tossed (on a hot mic) over a blown replay at third. Around the league: Chase Burns deals 6 IP, 2 H for the Reds in a 15-1 dismantling of the Nationals (JJ Bleday — back-to-back jacks, 6 RBI), Zebby Matthews tosses 7 shutout in his spot start for the Twins, Schwarber breaks up a pitchers' duel with an 8th-inning bomb at Fenway, Brewers handle the Padres 7-1, Mariners take down Houston 8-3 (Cal Raleigh to the IL with a right oblique), Cubs avoid the sweep 2-1 in Atlanta behind Ben Brown's 4 IP, 1 H, 7 K, White Sox keep rolling over the Royals, and the Dodgers retake the NL West lead with a 5-2 win over the Giants. Full injury rundown: Cal Raleigh, Dollander, Garrett Crochet (20 pitches off the mound!), Max Fried imaging, Cole Ragans to the IL with pitcher's elbow, Kerry Carpenter, Verlander sim game, Buxton hip flexor, Murphy IL/Sean Murphy out, Hyeseong Kim back, Lindor still not close, Francisco Alvarez 6-8 weeks (meniscus), Yelich back, Nootbaar nearing rehab, Boyd out 6 weeks, Paddock signed by Reds, Mookie Betts back, and more. Weekend preview: Forget the Subway Series — the marquee matchup is the Crosstown Classic on the South Side (Cabrera vs. Burke). Plus Phillies-Pirates (Nola vs. Ashcraft), Blue Jays-Tigers (Yesavage debut watch), Reds-Guardians, Rangers-Astros, Royals-Cardinals, D-backs-Rockies (hammer the over), Padres-Mariners, and Giants at the A's in West Sac. Max Fried and Juan Soto avoid serious injury while Francisco Alvarez heads for surgery. We cover Carl Pavano's divorce accusations. Jerry updates us on the Mets beating the Tigers despite Soto's ankle injury. Following the Yankees' one-hit game, Fried's injury update, and Aaron Judge's road trip recap, the Cavaliers beat the Pistons in OT, Boomer explains why we love Jalen Brunson, and we discuss the NBA's new plan to prevent tanking.
James Harden leads the Cavs over the Pistons and OG Anunoby practices while we track Max Fried's injury, Mets walk-offs, and the Orioles' shutout of the Yankees. We preview the Subway Series and PGA Championship amid LIRR strike threats and Matthew Schaefer's Rookie of the Year award, then pivot to Francisco Alvarez's surgery, Carl Pavano's divorce, and Aaron Judge's road trip struggles. Between celebrating Jalen Brunson and the NBA's tanking plan, we host young golfers, navigate Gio's softball coaching stress, and debate wine choices as the Braves dominate and transit issues loom.
Well look at this. The Mets are actually playing competent baseball again. After the disaster movie that was April, the Mets have gone 8-4 in May, averaging 4.75 runs per game while allowing just 3.33 runs per game — a massive turnaround from April's painful 2.81 runs scored and 4.46 runs allowed per game. Amazing what happens when the offense remembers its job description and the pitching staff stops treating every inning like an escape room challenge.Farace, Rodriguez, and Producer Joe break down a Mets team that suddenly has energy, confidence, and — somehow — young players stepping up in huge spots. Jared Benge walked off the Tigers last night and continues to look like one of the few people in this organization who doesn't seem terrified of big moments. Meanwhile, Ewing gets the call to the majors and immediately keeps raking like he skipped the “adjustment period” memo entirely. The kids are alright… which honestly might be the most shocking development of the season. The offense has also finally started manufacturing runs instead of waiting around for somebody to hit a 3-run homer into another zip code. Small ball? Situational hitting? Productive at-bats? What is this, actual baseball? We'll get into what's changed offensively and why this lineup suddenly feels more connected than it did a month ago when everybody looked like they met each other in the parking lot before first pitch. On the pitching side, the young arms continue to flash potential while also driving everyone insane with inconsistency. The stuff is there. The command? That's another story. We'll talk about the growing pains, why catchers and pitching coaches need to react faster when guys clearly lose the zone, and why leaving struggling pitchers out there too long keeps turning manageable innings into full-blown disasters.Injury-wise, Juan Soto survived what initially looked like a scary ankle situation, while Francisco Alvarez was not nearly as lucky after tearing his MCL. Francisco Lindor's calf is reportedly improving, but the Mets still haven't given a real timeline because apparently mystery injuries are now part of the organizational identity. And now comes the fun part.Fresh off a 3-game sweep of the Tigers at Citi Field, the Mets now welcome the Yankees to Queens for a huge weekend Subway Series before heading out on a 7-game road trip through Washington and Miami. So yes… the vibes are finally improving. Which for Mets fans usually means preparing emotionally for something ridiculous to happen next. We'll break down all of it the only way we know how — baseball, sarcasm, chaos, soundboard abuse, and probably at least one unnecessary shot at the Yankees before the night's over.LGM. #PiitB #Mets

Boomer and Gio debate the skepticism surrounding the Knicks, while a caller questions an injured AJ Minter's golf outings and Boomer proposes ‘flattening first base' to prevent injuries. Jerry details the Mets' win over the Tigers, featuring AJ Ewing's impressive debut, though Francisco Alvarez's knee injury and a grim update from David Stearns on Luis Robert Jr. dampen the mood. The Yanks topped the Orioles behind a Trent Grisham home run, Anthony Volpe made his return, and Luke Combs shockingly brought life to the viral 'Puerto Rico Song' that nobody else liked.
Jerry has all the sounds of the Mets beating the Tigers. AJ Ewing had a great debut, but Francisco Alvarez got hurt and will need an MRI on his knee. David Stearns gave an update on Luis Robert Jr. and it doesn't sound good. The Yankees beat the Orioles as Trent Grisham had a 3-run HR. Anthony Volpe is back with the Yankees.
Hour 3: Loogie and Rosie on The Amazing Race and Knicks fans presence in Detroit. A serious Francisco Alvarez injury would hurt the Mets chances of a turnaround.

Craig Kimbrel is now pitching in his 17th big league season, and for his 10th team. Earlier today he sat down with Pat McCarthy and spoke about his evolution as a pitcher, his competitive drive, and how it could sometimes create an event like what happened last night with Francisco Alvarez.
The Mets offense exploded tonight for 10 runs in a 10-3 victory over the Giants. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza spoke postgame about the offensive explosion, led by Marcus Semien and Francisco Alvarez, and he also provided an injury update on Juan Soto who left the game in the 1st inning.
Brenden Schaeffer breaks down the Cardinals 4-2 loss to the Mets on Monday night at Busch Stadium as Kyle Leahy regrouped from early trouble to settle in for a solid outing -- until it seemed like he ran out of steam, extending for the first time in his MLB career into a fifth and sixth inning of work. But how about Nolan Gorman? Another homer for the slugging lefty and a quirky moment with Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez that Gorman thinks might have helped lead to his success on the home run.
It's been a strong start to the season for the Mets backstop Francisco Alvarez and he met with Pat McCarthy to discuss some of his offseason and the adjustments that came with it along with his perspective on the new ABS system.
Boomer receives a ChatGPT apology for a premature score prediction before hearing from callers who use chatbots for UFC and betting advice. Jerry's update on Francisco Alvarez's home run, a dead bird on the field, and Craig Carton's take on Jerry Seinfeld's recent interview. The hour wraps up with the White Sox striking out 20 times, the Knicks' loss in Charlotte, and a call from a long-time listener who tuned in for a decade while homeless.
Jerry has the sounds of Francisco Alvarez homering the Mets opening win. A dead bird fell on the field at one point. Craig Carton tried to promote Jerry Seinfeld going on with Tommy Lugauer, but did it by saying he can't believe he goes on all of these shows here. The White Sox struck out 20 times yesterday. The Knicks lost in Charlotte last night.

Keep or Kut - Pete (@PeteBBaseball) and Chad (chadyoung.bsky.social) go three three ADP tiers and identify players they simply have to have in keeper leagues. These are players whose ADP represents a value this year and have potential to be great keepers, even if you have to pay an increasing cost for them, next year. We used FanTrax ADP and here are the rules we followed: One player each from inside the top 100 ADP, one from ADP 101-200, and one outside the top 200. Players should have keeper value, but they also have to be valuable this year. You are competing, so you aren't going to punt a pick and a roster spot to stash Jesús Made for a year or more. 4:35 - Pete goes pitching in the top 100, targeting Logan Gilbert for the possibility to combine his history as a 200-inning workhorse with his newfound 2025 K-rate. 10:04 - Chad wants to buy the dip on Jackson Merrill, whose ADP would make him a multi-year keeper if he rebounds like we expect. 18:06 - Chad sticks in the outfield, this time going for Heliot Ramos, whose ADP is just straight too low. 26:55 - Another outfielder, this time from Pete who loves the power from Daulton Varsho, even if you get nothing else from him. 36:39 - Once we get outside the top 200, a lot of prospects are interesting, but we tried to stay away from them, and Pete finds himself targeting Francisco Alvarez. 43:21 - Chad wraps things up with a look at why Jackson Holliday is on multiple of his rosters. Sal Licata joins Locked Up Sports for a must-watch conversation covering his departure from WFAN, the future of the Mets under Carlos Mendoza, and whether the Knicks' championship window is closing. Sal opens up about the WFAN decision, saying he doesn't agree with it but respects it — and confirms he will not be returning. We dive deep into the Mets, where Sal makes it clear: if the team misses the playoffs, Carlos Mendoza will be fired. He also tells fans to move on from Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo, praises David Stearns for breaking up a losing core, and predicts a bounce-back season from Francisco Alvarez. Sal also believes the addition of Marcus Semien was a strong move to improve the lineup. On the Knicks side, Sal says if they don't win a championship this year, it may be time to break up the core. This is a bold, honest, unfiltered NY sports conversation. #NYMets #NewYorkMets #WFAN #Knicks #NBA #SalLicata #LockedUpSports

Segment 1 – News and Notes1.We had our first significant trade of the season as the Orioles traded Grayson Rodriguez to the Angels for Taylor Ward.a.Both teams are starved for pitching, and while G-Rod has never been healthy, he has good stuff with four years of team control. Taylor Ward becomes a free agent after this season.b.Unless the Orioles haven't told us that G-Rod's arm will fall off at some point next season, it's hard not to like this for the Angels. I will say, the Angels did not do a physical. I'm thinking that was part of the deal – you're buying low, so no give-backzy. 2.Raisel Iglesias signed back with the Braves. He had stretch where he was awful and lost his job. Is he the closer going into camp? Is he somebody you're comfortable drafting as a closer?3.Non-tendered players – Surprised, any worries they will sign somewhere?a.Adolis Garica (OF, Tex)i.Who gets his playing time?b.Nathaniel Lowe (1B, Bos)c.Christopher Morel (DH, TB)d.Alek Manoah (Atl, RHP)4.Kazuma Okamoto was posted. What do we know about him?Segment 2 – Fantasy Questions of the NL East – Marlins, Mets, Phillies, and NatsMiami Marlins1.Jakob Marsee – Let's hear it.a.AB, HR, SB, and BA – 12 HR, 35 SB, .2702.I know you've been a big fan of Connor Norby in the past. In a bit over a half-season, he went 8-8, making him a 15-15 player with a .250ish batting average. That's not an awful player, but he's been drafted as one. His ADP is 387, and he's the 30th third baseman off the board.a.What are your thoughts on Noby this season? Are you interested?3.Kyle Stowers had his breakout last season, posting a .288 batting average with 25 home runs in only 117 games. He's going as the 28th outfielder off the board.a.Would you feel good about him being your #2 outfielder?4.Sandy Alcantara was terrible last season, and now he's the 66th pitcher off the board (50th starter). I think I recall you saying you wanted him to pitch poorly last year, so he would drop in 2026. Has he dropped enough for you to be interested?5.When Ryan Weather has played, he's been ok. Unfortunately, he seems always to be hurt. He's the 120th pitcher off the board (call it 85 to 90th starter) – your 6th starter. Is that someone who interests you at the moment, or is it a pass?6.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)New York Mets1.The Mets appear to be moving on from Pete Alonso so they can move Vientos to first and Baty to third. Do you like this move or do you believe the Mets will keep Alonso?a.Baty's ADP is 259 and Vientos is 256. Who would you rather have?2.Francisco Alvarez started to show signs of being an impact player, slugging 11 home runs in 76 games. He'll just be 24 next season. Over/Under 20 home runs?3.Will Jeff McNeil be the full-time second baseman for the Mets in 2026? He's on the last year of his contract?4.Kodai Senga posted decent numbers in 2025, posting a 3.02 ERA with 109 strikeouts and 55 walks. However, he spent time in the minor leagues and continues to struggle throwing strikes?a.Stat line for 2026: wins, ERA, and K'sb.There's been rumors that the Mets will trade him this winter? What say you?5.Who will be the Mets closer in 2026?6.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)Philadelphia Phillies1.The Phillies could lose several players to free agency, including Kyle Schwarber and JT Realmuto. Do they resign these guys or try to get younger?a.I guess the problem is, are there minor league players that can step in or do they need to dip into free agency?2.Related to #1, the Phillies team still has Harper, Turner, and Cristopher Sanchez, but overall, the team doesn't look great. Dumbroski always finds a way, but is this a playoff contender for 2026?3.Andrew Painter – 2026 stats – IP, ERA, K's4.Zach Wheeler is expected to be back by the end of May. Before the injury, he was one of the best pitchers in baseball, but he had TOS surgery, which doesn't have a great track record for pitchers. He's the 52nd pitcher off the board, or the 39th starting pitcher off the board. Do you feel comfortable with Wheeler being a stronger #3 starter on your team? He was a top 5 pitcher selected in 2025.5.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)

Jerry starts with the sounds of the Yankees beating the White Sox and clinching a playoff spot. We heard the sounds of Howie Rose as the Mets came back to beat the Cubs as Brandon Nimmo had a 3-run game tying HR. Francisco Alvarez homered in the eighth which ended up being the game winner. Al actually had a new song about Jaxson Dart. Mike ‘I'm a man, I'm 40' Gundy was fired by Oklahoma State.
Hour 1 We started with a great night of baseball for the locals, with the Yankees clinching a playoff spot and the Mets coming back to beat the Cubs. It felt like a special night for the Mets. And where is Keith Hernandez? Is he sick? Jaxson Dart is starting for the Giants this weekend at home against the Chargers. Even though Russell Wilson had a great game against Dallas, he threw terrible interceptions last week. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Yankees beating the White Sox and clinching a playoff spot. In the final segment of the hour, WFAN producer Brian Rascona told Gio that Ken Griffey Jr was walking around the Ryder Cup and nobody seemed to notice him. Hour 2 Jaxson Dart is getting the start for the Giants this week. Nobody really talks about the pressure a quarterback faces in their first real NFL game. Boomer brings it up, but you don't hear many other people talk about it. It's different from the pre-season. Boomer likes Dart's attitude compared to some of the other rookie QBs that came to the Jets and Giants. Jerry returns for an update, but first Gio wonders if the teams being bused back and forth for the Ryder Cup are listening to the show. Jerry starts with Ian Poulter criticizing American golf fans. Brandon Nimmo hit a game tying 3-run homer as the Mets beat the Cubs. Francisco Alvarez ended up hitting what ended up being the game winning HR. The Yankees beat the White Sox and clinched a playoff spot. The Guardians have overtaken the Tigers and former WFAN Adam ‘The Bull' was so excited he made a weird noise. In the final segment of the hour, a caller wonders if Daniel Jones will get a big contract in Indianapolis (he will hang up and listen). Hour 3 We started the hour with the Jets as they play in Miami on Monday night. One of these teams is going to be 0-4. There is pressure on Mike McDaniel and Tua. In 2 of the 3 games, the Jets were very competitive. A caller wonders why the Giants even brought Russell Wilson in if they had already signed Jameis Winston. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Howie Rose and the sounds of the Mets beating the Cubs to get back in charge of their own destiny. Brandon Nimmo hit a game tying HR and Francisco Alvarez hit the eventual game winning HR. Jerry compares ‘douche bag says what' from the 1990s to ‘Boomer will cream pie me' from this morning. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Gary Cohen's comments last night about a Cubs player missing a game to attend Charlie Kirk's memorial service. We continued arguing about the phrase, ‘control your own destiny'. Hour 4 Nicole Rae from Skratch Golf is in the studio to talk about the Ryder Cup. They hosted us for our trip to Pebble Beach as well. Jerry returns for his final update of the day, but first Gio gives us alcohol prices for drinks at the Ryder Cup. Jerry starts with the sounds of the Yankees beating the White Sox as Caballero had a walk off single. We heard Howie Rose on the call as Francisco Alvarez homered making it 9-7 Mets. Micah Parsons was asked how it will feel when he sacks Dak this weekend. The Moment of The Day: Al has a new song, reminding Gio of marriage. In the final segment of the show, WFAN producer Brian Rascona checks in from the Ryder Cup.
The Jets and Mets were losing at almost the exact same time yesterday. As the Bucs were coming back to win their game after the Jets blocked and returned a FG attempt, Francisco Alvarez was getting robbed of a HR. The Jets fell to 0-3 at the same time the Mets were falling out of the playoffs. Right now both of their Octobers mean nothing. That could change, but it's not looking great. Boomer said the major difference between them is the Jets are in a rebuild and the Mets spent a ton of money on their roster. Gio said the Mets do not deserve to make the playoffs. They are ‘consistently inconsistent'. Even if they back into the playoffs and lose, that's a bad scene. Aaron Glenn said after the game this isn't the same old Jets, but it is.

C-Lo returned for an update and started with the sounds of Patrick Mahomes fumbling and then going and getting the ball back himself from a Giants' defender. Russell Wilson had trouble throwing deep against the Chiefs defense. Daboll kept getting questions after the game about a QB change. We heard the sounds of the Jets blocking a Bucs FG attempt that was returned for a TD and had the Jets believing they would win the game. Aaron Glenn was happy to see how the Jets played and said it's ‘not an instant coffee team' yet again. The Yankees beat the Orioles in extra innings as Ben Rice hit a grand slam. The Mets lost to the Nationals, whose center fielder made 2 great plays. In the final segment of the hour, Gio said the next QB to start has to be Jaxson Dart, not Jameis Winston. He's the last shot Daboll has to stick around. Boomer thinks the Falcons had to have the worst day, but the Rams loss had to be crushing. Once again there were issues with the tush-push even though the NFL told officials to officiate it properly.
Ben Lindbergh and Meg Rowley banter about sports equivalents to baseball's bat crack, Colson Montgomery's torpedo bat, reserving judgement on the MVP race, Francisco Alvarez's minor league reset (and subsequent injury), a Kyle Tucker slump/injury update, the hot hitting of Giancarlo Stanton and Jakob Marsee, the Twins' new knuckleballer, Pierson Ohl, and the ramifications of […]
