Sal Licata, with his characteristic intensity, breaks down the first-half performances of the New York Mets and Yankees. He emphatically awards the Mets an "A" grade, citing their ability to overcome significant injuries and exceeding pre-season expectations, especially in a division where the Braves have faltered. Conversely, Licata hands the Yankees a "B," expressing frustration with their inconsistency, questionable lineup decisions, and defensive lapses, despite their strong roster. He criticizes their failure to meet higher expectations and highlights specific player underperformances, particularly Anthony Volpe's defensive struggles and Juan Soto's woes with runners in scoring position for the Mets.
Sal Licata delivered his fiery first-half grades for New York's baseball teams, giving the Mets a resounding 'A' for exceeding expectations and overcoming significant injuries, despite Juan Soto's struggles with runners in scoring position. In contrast, he handed the Yankees a 'B', citing maddening inconsistencies, questionable managerial decisions, defensive blunders (particularly from Anthony Volpe), and a general underperformance against pre-season expectations, even with Aaron Judge's stellar play. Licata emphasized that while both teams are in good spots heading into the All-Star break, the Yankees have more room for improvement, and he isn't shy about calling out their flaws.
Sal Licata delivers a scathing critique of Anthony Volpe's performance, particularly focusing on his defensive struggles at shortstop. Licata, fueled by a caller's concerns and his own observations, questions the Yankees' commitment to Volpe given his inconsistencies and argues that his defensive miscues are costing the team, especially as they contend for a championship. He suggests that while Volpe's offensive struggles might be tolerable if he played clean defense, his current level of play is simply "not a big league play" and that the Yankees should consider sending him down if the struggles persist, highlighting the team's need for accountability and consistent play.

BT and Sal engage in a spirited, sarcastic, and often fiery debate about two recent slides to home plate: Anthony Volpe's game-winning "swim move" for the Yankees, and Pete Alonso's less-heralded, but still effective, slide for the Mets. Sal, ever the contrarian, dismisses the excessive praise for Volpe's slide, arguing it's overblown due to his otherwise poor season and that his speed alone should have gotten him there. BT, however, defends Volpe's athleticism and the brilliance of his maneuver, sparking a heated back-and-forth as they dissect the mechanics and context of both slides, ultimately agreeing to disagree on which was truly superior and how much credit each player deserves.
BT and Sal are discussing Anthony Volpe's troubling lack of power, particularly after a recent play where he "almost" hit a ball over the 410-foot fence. Sal vehemently dismisses the idea of giving Volpe credit for an "almost," emphasizing that his current hitting—around .150 in the last month and a half—is a prolonged slump. They agree that while Volpe has good bat speed, he consistently hits to center and right-center field without the necessary pop, a fundamental flaw preventing him from being a "big boy" hitter. This ongoing power deficit is a major concern for the hosts, overshadowing any positive plays like his recent slide.
BT and Sal dive headfirst into the heated New York baseball scene, celebrating the Yankees' incredible comeback win, sparked by a clutch Giancarlo Stanton pinch-hit homer and Anthony Volpe's controversial yet game-winning slide at the plate. They also dissect the Mets' frustrating doubleheader losses, questioning manager Carlos Mendoza's bullpen decisions and Juan Soto's lack of hustle, while fondly reminiscing about Mets legend David Wright's career. The show features passionate calls from fans like Clem from Surfside, who even makes a friendly bet on the division race

Hour 1 - Boomer & Gio continue their vacation so today it's Jerry and Chris McMonigle. We started with C-Mac's favorite team, the Yankees, who are having no problem with the Mariners. Jazz Chisholm hit 2 home runs last night and Jerry said he's fun to watch. Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler made his debut last night and his parents were there to see it. C-Lo is here for his first update of the day and has a few WFAN hosts who can't say ‘Schlittler'. We heard one of Jazz's homers. The Mariners hit four in their loss. Jazz talked about Schlittler having red cheeks last night. The Yankees DFA'd DJ LeMahieu. A Vikings player was scammed out of $240K, making deposits into accounts. In the final segment of the hour, we talked to C-Mac about the terrible callers overnight. Hour 2 - We started the hour with a few calls about callers to the station. We heard from a few young guys that listen and call. We also talked about baseball with the Mets and Yankees and how both teams seem to be back on track. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the sounds of Jazz Chisholm hitting one of two home runs on the night. Cam Schlittler had a nice MLB debut on the mound. We talked about a scenario where your son becomes the pitcher on a team you hate, like the Red Sox. Do you wear Red Sox gear? In the final segment of the hour, we took calls on whether you would root for your kid on an enemy team. Hour 3 - We started the hour by closing out the calls on whether you would root for your son if he was playing against your team. We talked about sports talk in NY, where there are two teams and fans think you are covering the other team too much. We talked about the Brooklyn Dodgers moving to L.A. and who the fans decided to root for. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the debut of Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler last night. Jazz Chisholm hit 2 home runs last night. The Yanks DFA'd DJ LeMahieu. C-Lo has clips of odd sounds and they are all C-Mac. Danielle got a call at 3:30am from a strip club. In the final segment of the hour, C-Mac tells the story of saving a woman's life when he was on vacation in Germany. Hour 4 - The Yankees have made significant changes, moving Jazz Chisholm to second base and designating DJ LeMahieu for assignment, which was described as a "cleansing period." Despite a recent win over the Mariners featuring two homers from Chisholm, Brian Cashman emphasized the ongoing need for bullpen arms and a third baseman, while still expecting big things from Anthony Volpe. Meanwhile, the Mets are preparing for a doubleheader against the Orioles. Other notable discussions included a furious Joe Burrow clip from 'Quarterback,' Kirk Cousins' 'Great Clips' haircuts, Deion Sanders' silence on his health, Mike Brown's focus on players' dating lives, and "The Moment of The Day" calling for a WFAN text line. The show concluded with a discussion about C-Mac joining WFAN after meeting Monzo and Marc Malusis in Las Vegas.
The Yankees finally moved Jazz Chisholm to second and DFA'd DJ LeMahieu. C-Mac said it feels like a cleansing period after 3 weeks of a disaster. The Yankees still need to add bullpen arms according to C-Mac. We also talked about the Mets as they get ready for a double header today against the Orioles. C-Lo returned for his final update of the day and started with the Yankees win over the Mariners as Jazz hit two homers. Brian Cashman said he's not counting Anthony Volpe out and still expects big things from him this season. Cashman also talked about the need for relievers and a third baseman. We heard a clip from the Netflix series, ‘Quarterback', involving a furious Joe Burrow during a game. Kirk Cousins goes to ‘Great Clips' for his haircuts. Deion Sanders won't give us any information on his health condition. We heard from Mike Brown as he seems to like to reference the dating lives of players. The Moment of The Day: WFAN needs a text line. In the final segment of the show, Jerry quizzes Al to see how much he knows about C-Mac. He ended up working at WFAN because he ran into Monzo and Marc Malusis in Las Vegas.

BT and Sal dissect the New York Yankees' perplexing tendency to strike out, arguing that their "all-or-nothing", launch-angle focused approach is hindering their offense despite having plenty of power. Sal champions the idea of acquiring a high-contact, defensive-minded third baseman like Nolan Arenado to balance the lineup, contrasting him with strikeout-prone options like Eugenio Suarez or even Anthony Volpe, who a scout suggests is trying to hit like Aaron Judge. They emphasize the importance of putting the ball in play, even if it's a groundout for an RBI, as opposed to the current lineup's frequent whiffs, which they believe limits run-scoring opportunities.
Hour 1 - Although the temperature has been turned up on Anthony Volpe, Keith still thinks Yankees fans need to give him a little room to grow still because the other options are not ready yet.

A caller to Sal Licata blamed WFAN and the media for making it tough on players like Anthony Volpe to perform in NY, and how they play great in cities when they leave NY. We talked about the media being critical of players and Willie talked about his experience with the media when he was with the Jets and in Pittsburgh. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Yankees beating the Mets, including another Aaron Judge HR. Cody Bellinger made a great play in left and doubled up Lindor at first. Volpe's father was getting at it with fans in the stands who were getting on his son. We heard the audio of Sal vs the caller on criticizing players. In the final segment of the hour, a caller said there's lots to do in Montana, and then proceeded to say you can drive to North and South Dakota from there.

C-Lo gave his first update, including Dave Sims' call of the Bellinger catch, as the Yankees snapped a six-game losing streak. Evan Roberts is vacationing in Paris, posting Mets win videos and a Rico Brogna podcast. Al is off to Montana with no plans, and Jerry discovered professional pillow fighting. The discussion then escalates to the viral video of Volpe's father, Michael Volpe, getting into a heated, expletive-laden confrontation with a heckling Mets fan at Citi Field, leading BT and Sal to debate the fine line between parental defense and public restraint, and the unfortunate reality that such incidents might keep family members away from games.
In Episode 103 of Chase for 28, the frustration boils over. Chris and the Podcast Padre pull no punches in their most candid conversation of the season, airing grievances about the Yankees' brutal 0-6 stretch, crumbling bullpen, and Anthony Volpe's prolonged slump. Beazley thinks trades with the Cubs, Phillies, Yankees, Blue Jays or Twins could make sense, including potentially inquiring about Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh or Yankees' youngsters Anthony Volpe or Jasson Dominguez, as the Pirates could potentially get players in return that will help the team moving forward.
