Seasons that came and went like they always had. Those songs were written by people who assumed the world would look the same forever. It won't. Not if we don't pay attention. I travel a lot. I play music in fields and forests and festivals. And I notice things. Things that weren't there ten years ago. Things that are gone that used to be. The old songs are worth saving. So is the world they were written about. Climate action isn't political to me. It's personal. It's about keeping the world worth singing about. Vote like the world depends on it. Because it does. It's safe to say that, without Sam Filmus in our lives, there would be no Single Cask Nation, no One Nation Under Whisky, and, on a much larger scale, the whisky landscape in America would be a much quieter place. Sam is a titan in the whisky industry & community. We're lucky enough to call him a friend, and on behalf of Single Cask Nation, we are so thankful for his friendship over these past 15 years and counting. ...as usual, have a seat, have a pour, and listen in. This month love is in the air as Calum and Duncan unpack some of the Society's most scintillating Valentine's Day bottlings. With plenty of cheeky names along the way the pair dive into an unconventional Speyside, a distillery with a staggeringly long fermentation and a popular Islay dram.

Gavin Linde welcomed Peter Jnr. of Luchi's Whiskey Bar to the Rolex Whiskey Passion Project. Peter Jr. detailed the bar's transformation into a specialist for Islay and Jura malt whiskies, a shift that was inspired by an American VIP's observation of the jarring contrast between the luxury whiskey lounge and the public bar's Jäger bomb clientele. This led to the decision to focus on opening rare bottles for drinking. The bar now boasts an inventory of between 1,800 and 1,900 exclusive Islay and Jura bottlings, having removed all non-Islay whiskies to focus on island exclusives, driven by a rising international customer demand over the past 7 to 10 years.

The Jim Beam distillery recently resurrected a legend and released Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond with a 7 year age statement. This return of age statements to bonded products is a recent trend that we have seen from many legacy distillers. Even though OGD used to carry an 8 year age statement, the return of the product to the shelf with an 7 year age statement and with an MSRP of $40 has been met with a lot of excitement. But how does the bourbon taste? More importantly, how does it stack up to some of it's recently released counter parts from other distilleries? Give us a listen this week to find out. It is worth noting that Kenny and Cam from Drums & Drams already did this blind and recorded it. We are working to get that video out ASAP, but the results in this episode did not match what Kenny & Cam did previously. Ohh boy. Jim Beam recently launched Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond with a 7 year age statement. This product joins the trend that we've seen recently with legacy distillers returning higher age statements to bonded products. Old Grand Dad used to carry an 8 year age statement, but enthusiasts and newbies alike were happy to see the return of the age statement at an MSRP of $40. But how does this taste? More importantly, how does it stack up against other legacy distillers recent age stated releases? You'll have to give us a listen to find out. It is worth noting that Kenny had already done a similar blind with Cam from Drums & Drams. Even though we haven't put that video out yet, the results from this blind differ from that one. Ohhhh boy. Bryson Banks and Annie Sharp celebrate their one-year podcast anniversary by diving into their wildly different social media origins - from Annie stalking boys on Facebook as a teen to Bryson reluctantly joining Instagram after leaving the Marines. The conversation shifts to legendary Marine Chesty Puller's accomplishments (including allegedly killing a horse with one punch), before Annie questions why men are so brave while she gets nervous just sneaking drinks into movies. Things take a Gen Z turn when Annie announces skinny jeans are back in style, leading to Bryson admitting he was more of a "slim fit" guy himself, before the couple debates their generational "vibe" differences and Annie warns Bryson he'll have to hang with her younger friends at an upcoming wedding.Find us @agegapytozpod.Theme song by DYLVN. River Roots Barrel Company started just one year ago and they've already managed to generate a lot of hype and attention in the bourbon community. For this episode, we hang with co-founders of River Roots, Ryan Lintz and Tom Gray. Everyone involved with River Roots has connections to Cleveland, Ohio, which home base for this up and coming bourbon brand. Ryan and Tom have different backgrounds, but their love of whiskey brought them together and they aspire to find the best spirits in the world to satisfy any whiskey enthusiast's palate. We were delighted that Cam Leach (Drums & Drams) stuck around for this episode. Not only did we enjoy learning about River Roots, but we had a really good time in the process. Anthony couldn't contain his excitement about finally getting to meet Bourbon Buddy and Kenny made sure that we had a lot of good pours. River Roots is a bourbon company that you might not be familiar with right now, but you are definitely going to want to pay attention to all the amazing stuff they are doing. On September 10th, 2024, the family of Jimmy Russell, the employees of Wild Turkey, and whiskey enthusiasts from all over the world celebrated the 70th anniversary of Jimmy's time at Wild Turkey. Jimmy started with the distillery back in 1954 and is the oldest living master distiller in spirits. To celebrate this milestone, Wild Turkey created an 8 year 101 proof bourbon which is representative of everything that Jimmy holds dear about this beloved spirit. The best part? It carries an MSRP of only $50. It's been a long time since we've seen a limited offering with this low of a price tag. Join us this week as we review this bottle with a little help from a friend. As if this bottle wasn't enough, our guest host for this week is Cameron Leach from Drums & Drams. Cam has an excellent YouTube channel and we were honored to have him join us for this bottle review. The Borders Distillery (Hawick, Scotland) WF0017 Today's Whisky Flight adventure takes me back to the Borderland region of Scotland and England, where we meet John Fordyce, one of the founders of The Borders Distillery. Every distillery has a story and John relates how a town built on the textile industry became the perfect spot for making whisky in a sustainable environment. He'll tell us about the historic building they renovated, the unique way his distillers work, and what you can expect from a visit to The Borders Distillery.
