Send us a textCreating an inclusive and safe space for everyone to explore movement and work out can be challenging - Trey Joseph took on that challenge and through his own experience of living in a marginalised body as a transgender man and learning how to coach from a trauma informed lens he is DOING JUST THAT!We had such a great conversation with Trey and chatted with him about- how he came to his inclusive approach to fitness - his new coaching programme- what is needed for people to feel safe in the spaces they exercise in- why we could all do with a bit of dancing Trey is a strength and fitness coach, personal trainer, and behaviour change specialist who's all-in on making exercise enjoyable, accessible, and inclusive. As a queer, transgender man who transitioned later in life, he knows what it's like to live in a marginalised body—and how intimidating working out can feel, especially when you're just starting or don't feel at home in mainstream fitness spaces. What Trey loves most about working out is how it supports his mental and emotional health, and he wholeheartedly believes that everyone deserves the freedom and resources to move their body in a way that's right for them. That's why his coaching style is client-centred, compassion-led, and designed to build confidence, and every workout he coaches is designed to feel safe, fun, and zero-pressure. He's one third of the Strength Crew coaching team (along with his wife Emma and dog Dexy), offers online fitness classes as well as 1:1 sessions, and you can chat to him on IG at @trey_strengthcrew Please reach out if you would like some support with your relationship to food OR movement. Send us a textIt's a BRAND NEW episode of Bakotunes! I'm honored to welcome my guest Monique Powell of Save Ferris to the show! It was an opportunity I could not pass up and after a few tech delays, it finally happened. Monique and I go back to the early days of the band in Orange County, gigging alongside ska homies Reel Big Fish and more before getting swept up in the third wave ska craze and a hit single - a cover of Dexy's Midnight Runners 80s classic, "Come On Eileen"! That was followed with tours across the globe and back, in the van, and of course, tons of sweaty ska shows packed with sweaty, skankin' checkerboard kids. It was the nineties and it was a blast. Lots of fun facts and ska time warping! We also have classic Save Ferris music and their latest single, "Get Dancing!" that just dropped at all music outlets on 4/25. Enjoy! https://saveferris.com/**Episode features the songs "Come On Eileen," "Get Dancing", "The World Is New" by Save Ferris. Also contains excerpts from: "Orange County, CA (1976)", "MTV Skaturday", Save Ferris Honda Commercial, "Sid & Nancy", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Teens React to 90s Ska Music".Sponsored by Chain Cohn Clark - Kern County's leading accident, injury, and workers' compensation law firm. Send Me a Message! In this episode of The Dysregulated Podcast, I take a look at the all-too-familiar "Dexy Blues"—the wave of anxiety and depression that hits when stimulant medications like Vyvanse and dexamphetamine start to wear off. I share my experience with these emotional crashes, how my prescription had to be adjusted to soften the blow, and some quick tips to help avoid those tough afternoons. I also reflect on my friends' experiences, how these medications affect her differently and showing how reactions to even the same drugs can vary from person to person. If you're on ADHD meds, I think you'll really relate to this one!----Follow my journey living with mental illness and the hard-fought lessons learned along the way. Welcome to Mona Lisa Overpod, the show that asks the question "What is cyberpunk?" On each episode, hosts Ka1iban and author Lyda Morehouse dive into the genre that helped define sci-fi fiction in '80s and they break down its themes which remain relevant to our lives in the 21st century. Pull on your mirrorshades, jack into the matrix, and start your run with us today!Cyberpunk, culturally, is as much about style as it is about theme, and every good scene needs a soundtrack. But what exactly constitutes cyberpunk music? What BPM correctly communicates "down with the corpos"? Can you make cyberpunk music with analog instruments? And how does Michael Sembello fit into all of this? In this episode, we discuss the evolution of electronic music and the "cyberpunk sound", its roots in the punk movement and early electronica, the balance between composition and theme, the importance of "feel", defining an art form through constraints, and we ask whether or not "cyberpunk music" is a living genre. We also talk about dead Aibos, Dexy's = not cyberpunk, tapepunk, the trans history of synthesized music, Krautrock, how Blade Runner DIDN'T influence cyberpunk music, cyber-meetings with Timothy Leary, the Suck Fairy, synthwave and the Desert of the Real, the non-cyberpunk Matrik soundtrack, and how cyberpunk music looks back to look forward."If you have exceptions, you do have a rule." - Lyda MorehouseThe new edition of Lyda's book, Ressurection Code, is out now!https://wizardstowerpress.com/books-2/books-by-lyda-morehouse/resurrection-code/Join Kaliban on Twitch weekdays at 12pm for the Cyber Lunch Hour!http://twitch.tv/justenoughtropePut Just Enough Trope merch on your body!http://justenoughtrope.threadless.comMLOP is a part of the Just Enough Trope podcast network. Send us a textDavid Bowie's “Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)” is, for many fans, his last great album. Mick regards it as one of Bowie's best, with the singles "Ashes to Ashes" and "Fashion". Mick and Jeff talk through what makes this album great, and look at the music environment as Bowie, along with many other 70's greats, faced the changes and challenges of the 80's.“Knockin' on Heaven's Door” offers a long line of new entrants to Rock'n'Roll Heaven including Herbie Flowers, Tito Jackson, Kris Kristofferson and Liam Payne from One Direction. Our Album You Must Listen to Before you Die, fresh from Robert Dimery's book, is Dexy's Midnight Runners' “Don't Stand Me Down”, a massive failure on release in 1985 but receiving a fresh critical re-evaluation in modern times. We didn't like it! Not least because of their complete rip-off of “Werewolves of London” by Warren Zevon. Our first two installments of the New Wave Game ended in ties, because we were both quite clueless. This week we move even deeper into the Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80s CD series, as we attempt to guess each other's favorite songs on each volume. Among the weirder, more obscure stuff (any other fans of "I Eat Cannibals"?), we find plenty of new wave classics from Duran Duran, Thomas Dolby, The Tubes, The Fixx, Scandal, Dexy's Midnight Runners, and lots more. Can we possibly resist an oddity called "Chicken Outlaw"? Do we just wish we were in Tijuana eating barbecued iguana? Hop on the escalator of life with us to find out. Helen O'Hara is a talented violinist best known for her contributions to British band Dexys Midnight Runners. Born in London, Helens musical journey began at an early age. She exhibited a natural affinity for the violin, showcasing both technical prowess and a deep emotional connection to the instrument. Her early training and dedication to mastering the violin set the stage for her later success with Dexy's Midnight Runners. She had met the charismatic Kevin Rowland in the late 70s and joined the band in the early 1980s, during a crucial period of the band's evolution. Her introduction added a distinctive and soulful dimension to the band's sound, creating a unique blend of rock, soul, and folk elements that set Dexy's apart in the music scene. Dexys Midnight Runners, originally formed in 1978 in Birmingham, England, by Kevin Rowland, emerged as a prominent force in the New Wave and post-punk movements. The band was characterised by its eclectic musical style, combining elements of soul, pop, and Celtic folk, and was widely recognized for its energetic live performances. The band achieved commercial success with their second album, "Too-Rye-Ay," released in 1982. This album featured some of Dexy's most iconic tracks, including the chart-topping hit "Come On Eileen." The distinctive sound of the album, marked by the prominent use of strings and horns, showcased the influence of Helen O'Hara's violin and contributed significantly to the band's success. After the release of "Too-Rye-Ay," Dexys Midnight Runners underwent a significant transformation. In 1985, Kevin Rowland decided to disband Dexys Midnight Runners and subsequently reformed the group under the simplified name "Dexys." This change reflected Rowland's desire to move away from the Midnight Runners' image and to emphasize a new musical direction. Under the moniker Dexys, the band continued to explore various musical genres and experiment with their sound. While the lineup underwent changes over the years, Helen O'Hara remained a key member, contributing her violin expertise to the evolving Dexy's sound. Despite various challenges and lineup changes, Dexys (formerly Dexys Midnight Runners) continued to release music and tour, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry. The band's legacy endures not only for their chart-topping hits but also for their willingness to push musical boundaries and embrace diverse influences, with Helen O'Hara's violin playing a crucial role in shaping their distinctive sound. The extremely talented and humble Helen O'Hara joins us today as our guest to unravel the story of Dexys, to tell us about her personal journey and to share details of her recently released memoir 'What's She Like.' If you'd like to know more about Helen head for her website: https://www.helenohara-violin.com/biog If you'd like to suggest a guest for a future episode send me a message through my website https:www.abreathoffreshair.com.au

Welcome back to another search for the very worst album of all time, yes, it's Trve. Crvp. Pop!. Steve and Sam are back and are looking at My Beauty, the second solo album from former (and current) Dexy's Midnight Runners frontman, released on the 21st of September 1999.Rowland was one of the biggest stars in music in Britain in the 1980's, but after Dexy's split in 1987 he spiralled into depression and drug addiction and decided to quit music. After a spell living on the streets Rowland signed to Creation Records, home of Oasis, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine and, of course, 3 Colours Red, and released a set of covers, with the lyrics changed to reflect his recent struggles. It should have been a triumphant comeback, but Rowland decided to portray himself on the front cover wearing a dress and lingerie, much to the confusion of the UK music press, and then turn up fully made up and in a dress at the Reading Festival in 1999 a month before the album was released. It was a disaster and completely overshadowed the music on My Beauty. Rowland, it was reported, only sold 500 copies of the album and he became the punchline to many a joke at the time. But, 24 years on, does the music stand up? ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

SERIES 2 EPISODE 8: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump made his lawyers file a 29-page document complaining about Joe Biden's coffee mug. Trump really hates this coffee mug. Trump is really aggrieved by this coffee mug. Trump's fractured emotional and intellectual depth perception is triggered by this coffee mug. Trump's last thought before he dies might just be about this coffee mug. He made his lawyers put a picture of this coffee mug IN the response to the government's motion to keep him from taking the evidence produced in discovery and using it to try to get somebody to kill the witnesses or the prosecutors or the judges or the Attorney General or you or me or whoever. He believes this coffee mug gives him permission to take just about anything the prosecution has and write another hundred self-pitying posts about it or give another interminable TWO hundred speeches about it. It's SOME coffee mug. I wonder if Judge Tanya Chutkan has stopped laughing yet. Jack Smith quickly responded claiming Trump is seeking help trying the case in the media not in the courtroom and Judge Chutkan has already scheduled a hearing sometime before Friday. Plus the Atlanta indictments are expected this week or next but no earlier than Thursday. His genius lawyers are now 0-4 versus E. Jean Carroll and Trump tries to attack DEVON Archer but instead attacks KEVIN Archer, co-founder of the group "Dexy's Midnight Runners" and you know what their one hit was, right? C'mon Aileen Cannon. B-Block (19:16) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: In what might be the longest 'Worsts' in this series, Piers Morgan's hatred of America and Kayleigh McEnany's complete fabrication about seeing "The Devon Archer hearing" cannot compete with Baltimore Orioles' CEO John Angelos who suspended his terrific young announcer Kevin Brown for complimenting the team on how much more success it's had this year than in previous seasons. Seriously. The guy wants the audience to believe the Orioles have never lost a game. I've been the victim of some BS suspensions, but nothing to compare to this BS. (25:54) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Just 16,194 days ago I got a letter that so profoundly changed my life that I know exactly where it is at this minute and I bet I haven't gone a full week without thinking of it. C-Block (39:49) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL (Part 2): The letter was from Lou Adler, News Director of WCBS Radio in New York. And the trip to get back to my apartment to GET the letter ALSO nearly changed my life. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
