Brian Cox and Robin Ince referee as Saturn and Jupiter square up to each other in a planetary face off. Representing team Saturn is space physicist Professor Michele Dougherty, and in the opposite corner is Dr Paul Abel on Team Jupiter. Katherine Parkinson judges this cosmic contest, casting the final vote to decide who will be awarded the coveted Kuiper Belt. It is not all about looks of course, but it is a significant factor in a first impression. Both Saturn and Jupiter score highly in this department, boasting magnificent icy rings and colourful stripes respectively. But what lies beneath their aesthetically pleasing exteriors? How do the planets compare on the inside? The gas giants have been subjects of investigation for many years, with historic missions like Galileo and Cassini uncovering their secrets. But they aren't alone, each planet is surrounded by its own mini solar system of moons, which get space scientists just as excited as their parent planets do. Both Jupiter and Saturn have moons which are hot contenders in the search for extra-terrestrial life and our panel discuss the future plans to explore them.Producer: Melanie Brown Exec Producer: Sasha Feachem Researcher: Olivia Jani
Chris and Mr Max are out under a beautifully clear winter sky, looking at Jupiter and talking about its enormous (but shrinking) red spot. New results from the Juno spacecraft (https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/jupiters-great-red-spot-is-surprisingly-deep/) teach us about this long lived storm, and provide a surprising connection to lego. Mr Max is keen for speed, and is not to be distracted by anything on this pleasingly lovely evening. Dette LØRNER du:LitteraturPolitikkSamfunnsendringPrivat overvåkningAnbefalt litteratur:1984, Vidunderlige ny verden, Nullingen av Paul Abel, This Perfect Day, Minority Report.Om boken:Fullt innsyn. Total åpenhet. Bare sannhet. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Opinions on the accuracy of Net Promoter Score (NPS) as a customer loyalty measure vary widely. But like it or not, the reality is that a lot of organizations use NPS. It has become a standard key performance indicator (KPI) that many business executives embrace. So it's not going away anytime soon. The question for those of us who care about data accuracy, is how can we augment or possibly modify it to make sure that the data story told by NPS, is going to help the business improve. Many people think they “know” NPS, but once you dive in and actually start working with it, you find there is more to making it useful than simply counting “promotors” versus “detractors.” A lot more. In this excerpt from a guest lecture delivered to Research Rockstar students, NPS expert Paul Abel tackles burning questions about controversies surrounding NPS (is it a truly useful measure of loyalty?), and his experience in optimizing research programs that use NPS. About the Speaker: For over 25 years, Paul Abel has led qualitative and quantitative research across a wide variety of topics and markets worldwide via his work at Blue Research, and previous work at Intel and Gartner Consulting. Paul holds a PhD in Psychology/Neuroscience from the University of Washington and BS degree from UCLA. Check out his other content and services here: www.blue-research.com Further NPS-related info: A video chat on NPS with Kathryn Korostoff and guest Jeffrey Henning of Researchscape. Two well-done articles on the pitfalls of NPS: this one cites a lot of very credible research and proof points, and this one has research-supported advice on how to improve NPS (access to the full article requires being a subscriber to Quirk’s, and subscriptions are free).
For 125 år siden kom boka "The time machine", eller "Tidsmaskinen" ut for første gang.

Hør ham her i samtale med sjefsredaktør Kari Marstein.
In Part 2 of the Science Shambles specials from the Blue Dot Festival from Jodrell Bank, Robin and Josie tackle the issue of evolution and bananas before we chat about scientific delight in all things bookish with a bumper lineup of guests. There's science presenters and writers Dallas Campbell and Ginny Smith, immunologist Sheena Cruickshank, astronomer Paul Abel, the team from ScienceGrrl, impressionist Jon Culshaw and Public Service Broadcasting's J Willgoose. Because this episode was recorded in a large field where a music festival was also taking place, there is often a bit of background noise. Sorry about that.
Brian Cox and Robin Ince take to the stage at the Blue Dot Festival, at the home of Radio Astronomy, Jodrell Bank. They are joined on stage by Ben Miller, Charlotte Church, Dr Paul Abel and Professor Tim O'Brien to explore the big questions that are still to be answered about our Universe.
