Caroline told us Malcolm's tale of his injuries and treatment earlier this year. After he was hit by a car, his community rallied round to help fund his extensive medical treatment. There were many happy fans of Malcolm when he made it back home, and his ever-present companion Baby Dog took care of him. I caught up with Caroline just before Christmas to find out how Malcolm is getting on, how his life has changed, and the new cat coming round to visit him.

Dead of Winter: Haunted Christmas Tales - Part 2 For centuries, the winter season has been tied to tales of fearsome spirits and supernatural occurrences. The long and frozen nights were first a time for the imagination to run rampant with creatures luring in the shadows. Later, the fear was dampened by embracing eeriness of the season and sharing ghostly tales around the fire at Christmas time. Even so, while Christmas did become a popular time for fictional spirits, there have still been plenty of actual paranormal encounters during the holiday season, some of which we will be sharing with you tonight!

It's Christmas Eve, and that can only mean one thing...the Coca-Cola Santa is just a hoax. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010) tells the story of a group of researchers who, while drilling into a mountain in Lapland, make an incredible and terrifying discovery that rewrites everything we know about Father Christmas. Can a nearby group of Reindeer farmers and their children save the day in time for Christmas? We discuss a festive horror favourite that turns out to be a surprisingly heartfelt Christmas treat, a classic tale of Father Son bonding, question the gun safety of Lapland Reindeer farmer families and the hiring practices of Father Christmas zealots. All of which leads to one question: How would you survive? This film was chosen by two of our lovely patrons - Kate and Moin. If you want to help us decide the films we cover, head to Patreon.com/HowtoSurvivePod and sign up to unlock bonus episodes, early launches and more! MERRY XMAS-POP ART, WHERE WE FIND THE POP CULTURE IN ART AND THE ART IN POP CULTURE. HOME FOR THE HELLIDAYS: Yes, it's that time of year for the Pop Art Christmas Episode. So join me and my annual yuletide guest Jay Cluitt (Deep Blue Sea-the Podcast; Con Air-The Podcast; Life v. Film blog) as we talk National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation/A Christmas Tale. “Yule crack up”: Ah, Christmas. It's that time when we gather all our loved ones around in one location so that we can remind ourselves why we never spend time with them the other 364 days of the year. It's the time for airing old grievances, swearing we'll never see that person again, get drunk because it's the only way to get through it, and eat until we puke. And then a month later we remember what a wonderful time we had and can't wait again until next year. …Sounds like it's time for Episode 90 of Pop Art, where we find the pop culture in art and the art in pop culture. It's the podcast where my guest chooses a movie from popular culture, and I'll select a film from the more art/classic/indie side of cinema with a connection to it. And this episode is the Christmas special. For this episode, I am happy to welcome back as my guest, podcaster and film enthusiast Jay Cluitt, who has become my annual holiday guest. Jay has chosen as his film the raucous comedy National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, while I have chosen Arnaud Desplechin's French dramedy, A Christmas Tale, both films about family gatherings at Christmas. As noted, Jay his been my annual Christmas guest, so don't forget to check out episodes 35, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang/The Thin Man and 70, Home Alone/Code Pierre Noel. And in this episode, we answer such questions as: Why didn't Chris Columbus do …Christmas Vacation? Who the hell is Arnaud Desplechin anyway? Whatever happened to Chevy Chase and does anyone care? Why does Henri faceplant himself on the street? How does Betty Boop fit in? Is the answer It's French? Where do Legos come in? Where does the director of …Christmas Vacation appear in the movie? Would you want to have dinner with any of the people? TRANSCRIPTION: It was the night before Christmas when RIGHT through the house. Not a creature was LEFT stirring, not even a mouse The stockings were hung RIGHT by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled RIGHT snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced RIGHT in their heads. And mama in her kerchief, and I in my cap Had just settled RIGHT down for a long winter's nap. When out on the LEFT lawn there rose such a clatter, I sprang RIGHT from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I LEFT like a flash; Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow LEFT a luster of mid-day to objects RIGHT below. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer. With a little old driver RIGHT lively and quick; I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled and shouted, and called them by name. To the RIGHT top of the porch! To the LEFT top of the wall! Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly when they meet RIGHT with an obstacle, mount RIGHT up to the sky. So up to the housetop the coursers they flew, with a sleigh full of toys and St. Nicholas, too.
