Growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina, Amy Sedaris watched a lot of television. She counts "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Second City Television" as major influences on her desire to perform, whether that meant pranking family members or acting in the plays written by her older brother, the humorist David Sedaris. Siblings aside, she was also surrounded by several other notable comedians, including Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello, whom she met in her twenties at Chicago's Second City comedy troupe. That trio would go on to create "Strangers with Candy" in 1999, a sitcom underpinned by the same surreal yet comic tone that would come to define Sedaris's later roles on shows like "BoJack Horseman," "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," and her own series, "At Home with Amy Sedaris." On this week's episode of "Table for Two," the actress and writer joins host Bruce Bozzi to discuss her years working as a waitress, why she prefers guest-starring over leading roles, and her recent addiction to BonBon candy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

You know how we've said "This is the worst movie we've ever seen" about a lot of movies? You know how we've also said "This is the worst movie ever and if we ever say it again, we are lying"? Well, this is the worst movie we've ever seen and if we say that about another movie we are lying. We watched Plump Fiction a parody of Quentin Tarantino movies and other films from 1994. It stars Julie Brown, not the Downtown one, as a fat version of Mia Wallace, Paul Dinello as the John Travolta character, Tommy Davidson as Samuel L. Jackson (who is sometimes doing a Sammy Davis, Jr. impression for no reason), the coach from Air Bud 2, the voice of Bobby Hill, and Glenn Gulia. More importantly it also features SNL alum Tim Kazurinsky as Priscilla, Queen Of The Dessert. Get it? Because dessert sounds like desert. It's funny. No, it's not. It's painfully unfunny. Please don't watch this film, but you can enjoy listening to us talk about it.Download Here
Ever wondered who helped actors like Stephen Colbert, Chris Farley, Amy Sedaris, and Paul Dinello to hone their comedy chops when they were starting their careers? Our guests, Jeff Michalski and Jane Morris, have directed, taught, and worked with these and countless other improvisers and writers, encouraging their originality and unique comedy voices. Through their theater, Fanatic Salon in Culver City, CA, Jeff and Jane bring the skills they developed at Second City in Chicago to new generations of improvisers and writers in Los Angeles and beyond. Jeff and Jane discuss working with and learning from improv legends Del Close and Paul Sills, taking acting classes from fellow Chicagoan David Mamet, watching Chris Farley audition for Second City by performing a belly flop on stage, and getting serious with Jim Jeffries. They also discuss their monthly improv performances with the Immediate Theater, led by Dan Castellaneta (aka the voice of Homer Simpson and Krusty the Klown), staged at the Fanatic Salon. Jeff and Jane provide invaluable insights into all aspects of performance and writing.

Amy Sedaris had no plan of action for her career other than going to Chicago to do sketch comedy and going to New York to do plays with her brother David. And as she tells Marc, she still has no plan except for doing things that she finds fun. Amy and Marc talk about how that lack of planning led to her early Comedy Central sketch show Exit 57, a collaborative partnership with Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert that birthed Strangers with Candy, and a public persona that made her an ideal Letterman guest and the perfect driver for a faux-homemaking show like At Home with Amy Sedaris. PAUL DINELLO and AMY SEDARIS stopped by Employee of the Month's live show at UCB. I hope to have them back on because this interview is brief and nutty, but wanted to share it nonetheless for die hard fans. PAUL DINELLO is an actor, writer, director and performer. He is an alumnus of Second City in Chicago. Since then he continues to collaborate with Amy Sedaris and Stephen Colbert. Together, they spawned Strangers with Candy, which Dinello later directed the film version, as well as Wigfield and Exit 57. Most recently, Dinello has been a writer and producer on The Colbert Report, where he also makes appearances as Tad, the building manager, and Stephen's Gay Accountability Partner. We spoke a little about his career in comedy.
Jodi Lennon is a writer, performer and director based in New York City. Lennon got her start in Chicago performing at Second City, IO, and the Annoyance Theater, and studying under people like Del Close and Dave Pasquesi. In 1995, she co-created and co-starred in the Comedy Central sketch show Exit 57 with Amy Sedaris, Mitch Rouse, Stephen Colbert, and Paul Dinello. Recently, Lennon has produced a documentary about Marc Maron called The Voice of Something: A Day In the Life of A New York Comic, which follows Maron around New York in the aftermath of 9/11. Last week, with the death of Davy Jones hanging over their heads, Jodi came over to the Wrestling Team apartment and told us about her parents and their perpetual bits, coming up in Chicago and how to create great characters. Plus, Andy learns a genuine lesson about writing!Hey! Beginnings Live this Sunday at UCB East at 6pm with The Daily Show's Elliott Kalan and author of I Don't Care About Your Band Julie Klausner!
