ORIGINAL AIR DATE: JAN 29, 2014People in the world often reject Christianity simply because they can't distinguish it from mere morality. The world needs morality--oppression thrives when consciences are abandoned--but we need more than that alone. We need the gospel of grace. A gospel that has largely been lost amid the dos and don'ts and preoccupations of religious culture. People often pit grace against moralism. And they should. Moralism circumvents heart-changed morality. We need moral men and women, but moralism damages the foundation of heart-change. It's okay to pit grace against moralism, but let's not pit grace against morality. Grace is the source of real morality, and grace--thank God!--breaks the bars of moralism that imprison us.Is Sunday School Destroying Our Kids? by author Samuel C. Williamson, exposes moralism for its false pretensions--the sham that it is--and it moves our hearts to believe the gospel, for the first, or the hundred-and-first, time.BRUCE COLLINS is a former pro wrestling promoter, an author of three published books (one of them with Brett Wagner, the host of The Speed Channel's PASS TIME and voice of Monster Garage and another book with Ric Drasin, the middle Hulk in the 1970's Incredible Hulk tv show with Bill Bixby and the creator of the Gold's Gym logo) and the former book reviewer of Monster Radio, which was nationally syndicated in 84 radio markets. Sitting down with my dad Peter Klutt, we go over a TV Special from nearly 20 years ago: The Muscle Car Shootout. There were 7 cars part of the competition running a series of tests: A 1969 AMX 390 Go Package, a 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1, a 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6, a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1969 Hurst Oldsmobile, and a 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge. Craig Jackson is the CEO of Barrett-Jackson, the country's most well-known auction company, and he owns 108 vehicles — from muscle cars to sports cars and modern classics to resto-mods. Immersed in the automotive world since he was a boy, Jackson recently attended the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) annual gathering in Las Vegas. He was our special guest for the latest episode of The Weekly Driver Podcast. Co-hosts James Raia and John Berg spoke with Jackson inside the Barrett-Jackson trailer on the showroom floor in one of several exhibit halls that housed the massive automotive showcase. Jackson, 63, discussed Barrett-Jackson's legacy and details of his vast personal collection. He also shared his business philosophy and thoughts on the expanding electric vehicle industry segment. "For an auction house to be over 50 years old, we've through a lot of changes," said Jackson in the wide-ranging episode. "The changes are that when we first started it we were selling all pre-World War II cars. Then it evolved. It started changing when we decided to go after the cars that the 'boomers' like, muscle cars." Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, Barrett-Jackson began in 1971, as an expected one-time-only event. Its success prompted an annual auction. The Arizona event remained the showcase of the company's auctions around the country. It starts each season and is scheduled for January 20-28, 2024. Jackson took over full operations in 1995 following the death of his brother and his father. Jackson added vendors and live entertainment to the auction events. Barrett-Jackson saw increased popularity when the Speedvision network, later Speed Channel, began broadcasting the auctions in 1996. It was the first collector car auction to be televised, and coverage has since continued across several channels. "We are in the live event business," Jackson said. "We are in a very passionate business. And what it's all about is bringing new people into the hobby."

PICKING UP THE PACE|Jay Rogers, founder and CEO of haddy- a 3D -printed furniture company, joins host Gregg Garrett to discuss the lessons he learned by 3D printing autonomous vehicles and how the team is now looking to disrupt the complete supply chain of a less regulated industry with a similar product set. Of course, Jay speaks about his Top 3: God, who is part of his life everyday, his boys who help him to learn and reverse mentor him, and 3-star General Mike Dana who specializes in servant leadership. And you have to hear what he has to say about reading by candlelight. ABOUT JAY ROGERS John “Jay” Rogers is CEO and Co-Founder of haddy inc. – a pioneering digital manufacturing company serving the furniture industry and built on revolutionary technology and IP. Haddy is changing the way furniture is designed, built, delivered, and recycled. It is the world's first micro-manufacturer of furniture produced through a proprietary method of direct digital manufacturing (“DDM”). Through DDM, haddy enables more rapid technology and material adoption and a superior resilient supply chain. Jay grew up a lover of woodworking, machines, and a student of industry; his grandfather owned the legendary Indian Motorcycle Company, founded concrete and steel giant Texas Industries, and was the first Cummins Engine Distributor in the United States. Jay's grandfather is also credited with saving the Public Broadcasting System during the Nixon Administration and founding the Children's Television Workshop, which is best known for Sesame Street. In combining his family legacy of manufacturing, his military leadership, entrepreneurship, and education, Jay has hand selected a team of co-founders and set forth on a most ambitious plan: Creating, heroic, beautiful, durable furniture for retailers, to their design, built locally in the most resilient and sustainable manner. He graduated from Princeton University and went to a startup in China and then to Ewing & Partners where he became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). After that, he went on to the US Marine Corps where he served for 9 years in the infantry in the western Pacific and Iraq, to Harvard Business School and to become a consultant for McKinsey & Co. Most recently, he founded and led Local Motors, a next generation vehicle OEM. It was there that Jay discovered the basic technology of DDM, and in 2021 he handed over the reins of Local Motors to a new investor group and left to start haddy full-time. The story of how communities of customers and suppliers can effectively participate in the innovation and creation of leading technology products is a journey Jay shares widely. He has spoken at BIF, PopTech, TedX, Picnic in Amsterdam, Do Conference in Wales, St Gallen Symposium, the White House conference on making, CES, CeBIT, IMTS, Singularity University, and many more conclaves. Additionally, the story of American innovation, co-creation and digital manufacturing has been shared on Discovery, PBS, Fox, CNBC, and Speed Channel. You can find Jay's impact first in long form narrative as part of many books, starting with MacroWikinomics written by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams and more recently in America's Moment: Creating Opportunity in the Connected Age by Rework America and Zoe Baird. His work has also been featured in Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Wired, Top Gear, AutoWeek, Inc., Details, Forbes, and others. In 2020, he was awarded the honor of leading Local Motors to one of the top 10 global innovative transportation companies by Popular Science. Jay is a director of the RBR Foundation, which gives annually to the cause of childhood education and development. He is the father of 4 boys who are growing up in a connected age and whom, he hopes, will take advantage of the incredible opportunity that the internet has given the world. Visit Jay, haddy and the future of American Manufacturing Innovation in Tampa, FL where the first haddy microfactory is being built, and where he calls headquarters and home. The incomparable Danielle Trotta joins Davey (8:30) for a wide-ranging discussion on her esteemed career in media and motorsports. The current SiriusXM NASCAR Radio host dives into why media and journalism sparked her interest as a young girl, what made her want to get involved in sports and obtaining internships and gaining experience at a younger age than usual. She attended four (!) different colleges before getting her degree and starting her career in the business. But her on-air journey didn't come easy. She explains the importance of relationships, fostering them and building rapport while working behind the scenes before getting her first shot on camera in Charlotte. That was before the NASCAR world came calling in the form of SPEED Channel. She explains why she made the move to racing without seeking it out and the insanely steep learning curve that followed, the influence she received from the late Steve Byrnes, how her relationship then with Larry McReynolds evolved and her eventual departure from SPEED to NBC Sports Boston. Plus, her current role at SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, what her typical day looks like, why she and Larry Mac get along so well, how hosting a show on radio vs television differs, the hilarious story of how Larry (A.K.A. Dr. Love) set she and her now husband Robby Benton up, her time on the big screen, love for reality TV, whether there's anything else she'd like to accomplish professionally, our poorly aged takes about Tom Brady and one of the funniest moments in Victory Lane history involving a snoring dog.

"One video made by anyone can change the world." - Misha Tenenbaum Whether you are a seasoned editor, an aspiring editor, or if you're simply a creative professional who tells stories, you can always benefit from improving your visual storytelling skills. The craft of storytelling gives you the power of persuasion, the ability to affect change, and the opportunity to express yourself in a unique way. By far the most persuasive and engaging way to tell your story online (and sell a product - or yourself) is with video. Until now, learning the language of visual storytelling has largely been limited to online tutorials that focus on the technology and how to push the right buttons. Even film school editing classes often focus more on the technical aspects of the process and less on the principles of storytelling. But the brand new browser-based NLE EditMentor revolutionizes the way we are going to learn how to edit and be better visual storytellers by not only focusing on teaching you how to edit but more importantly on why you should make the choices you do as an editor. In today's conversation, founder and CEO of both EditStock and EditMentor Misha Tenenbaum and I take a deep dive into the nuts and bolts of EditorMentor as well as the habits and practices that enable editors and content creators to create more compelling visual stories. We discuss the value of having a great teacher and the psychology behind the teaching methods he chose when making EditMentor. Beyond the tech we also discuss the deeper theory and practices of editing, how to approach dailies & script analysis, and so much more. No matter if you're brand new to the craft of editing or you have years of experience but you're looking to improve your skills even further, EditMentor is a groundbreaking new tool I highly recommend everyone try out by signing up for this free tutorial lesson. Want to Hear More Episodes Like This One? » Click here to subscribe and never miss another episode Here's What You'll Learn: Why Misha started Edit Stock and what he learned from starting his own business. The entrepreneur mindset and what type of personality it's best suited for. Edit Mentor is the education system for content creators. KEY TAKEAWAY: The value out of learning to visually tell a story is self expression. Editors are painters who use emotion as their paint. What Edit Mentor is and what makes it different from other editing tutorials. The difference between being an efficient editor and an effective editor. Why dailies analysis is a critical skill that is not taught in most programs. Edit Mentor will teach you the language of film. KEY TAKEAWAY: Media literacy is for everybody. The nuts and bolts of what you get from Edit Mentor. Defining what a story is. How seasoned editors can learn from Edit Mentor and what value they get from the lessons. The difference between being a sculptor and a builder in regards to editing. Habits and processes for making decisions in the editing process. “Chess teaches you that losing is learning.” - Misha Tenenbaum To master anything, whether it's actually playing chess, training for (and becoming) an American Ninja Warrior, or climbing to the top of your chosen career, you have to know that failure is a HUGE part of the equation. And in fact failure should be embraced as part of the fun of achieving any difficult goal in life. Chess is not just a game, it’s also a mindset I believe you must adopt if you want to achieve anything difficult, because nothing worthwhile is easy. And doing hard things requires the right strategy (which is why one of the “Key Mindsets” I share with all the students in my coaching & mentorship program is to “Play Chess With Your Goals Instead of Checkers.”) Today I’m sharing with you a very fun, in-depth, and candid conversation with my friend and fellow entrepreneur Misha Tenenbaum. Before founding EditStock and EditMentor, Misha was a film and television editor and AE who edited shows for the Speed Channel, Food Network, as well as indie films. He also worked as an assistant editor on shows like American Horror Story, JOBS (the biopic about Steve Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher), the Fox show Wayward Pines, and Quarry for Cinemax. But instead of talking about Hollywood in this conversation, instead Misha and I dive deep into the meta skills necessary to achieve near-impossible (read: Ridiculous) goals. Misha grew up learning chess and spent several years in early adulthood climbing the ranks in the chess world. We discuss how the skills he's learned from spending years earning an 1800+ “Class A” ranking have transferred into many other aspects of his life. We also discuss the strange transformation that takes place along the path towards any goal where achieving that goal becomes irrelevant when you realize the journey is so much more valuable and rewarding. Whether or not you have any interest in the game of chess whatsoever (Spoiler alert: I myself barely know how to play), there is a wealth of valuable information in this conversation that can help you apply a smarter strategy to achieving your own goals and mastering the art of failure along the way. Want to Hear More Episodes Like This One? » Click here to subscribe and never miss another episode Here's What You'll Learn: The story of how Misha learned chess and his obsession with the game grew. Not only is chess a game of strategy it is also a game of recognizing patterns. If you don't understand the strategy or tactics you won't know how to play the game. The differences between someone who memorized the patterns and someone who learns the strategies. The rankings of chess players explained. How to relate the levels of chess to editing or any other skill you want to master. Becoming the best takes strategy and mindset shifts as well as dedicating your time and attention to that skill. The story of Bobby Fischer and how the trends of chess change and recycle. To break through a new level of your skill or craft, you have to innovate. My story of deciding to train for American Ninja Warrior and the probability of it actually happening. The side effects (read: benefits) of me FAILING at my goal to get on American Ninja Warrior. The perseverance and dedication it takes to incrementally improve at any craft or skill you desire. This week on the Way of Champions Podcast we welcome Robert Weintraub, author of The Divine Miss Marble: A Life of Tennis, Fame, and Mystery. In The Divine Miss Marble, Robert traveled the country to uncover her fascinating story. And the more he learned about her, the more her mysteries and contradictions deepened. Alice was a powerful woman who knew her worth, demanding equal pay to men decades earlier than other female athletes; yet she was held in sway by a domineering, highly successful coach with whom she had a volatile relationship. She was renowned for her California style, and had a brilliant mind and the guts to overcome a lifetime of physical trauma. For the first time here, we come closer than ever before to the truths of this unforgettable life, and somehow it’s a story even more extraordinary than everything we already know about the divine Alice Marble. About Robert Weintraub Robert Weintraub lives in Decatur, Georgia, but he grew up in the large shadow cast by Yankee Stadium, in Rye, New York, and is a lifelong Yankees fan. Weintraub has written about sports for Slate, Play (the late, lamented NY Times sports magazine), ESPN.com, The Guardian, Deadspin, and many more. He is also a television producer, and has worked on programs airing on ESPN, ABC Sports, CNN International, Turner Broadcasting, Speed Channel, Discovery, and dozens of others. He has covered events large and small, from the Super Bowl, Olympic Games, and World Cup to the Dragon Boat Races in Taiwan. Weintraub has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Sydney, and while he loves the American South (particularly its adherence to the religion of college football), he dearly misses the ocean. When not working, Weintraub has cast aside a former life that included cage diving with Great White Sharks and scaling Uluru for one of domestic tranquility with his wife Lorie and two young children. Connect with Rob on Twitter, LinkedIn, and visit his Amazon Page for his other writing. Help Support the Podcast! Become a Podcast Champion! …and get FREE access to ALL of our online courses. Host: Jai Shukla & Guest: Mike Skeen Q1 — So, what was it that got you into racing? You could say that it was his father’s love for cars that had him set up for success. Together, they’d work on cars until he was old enough to get into the driver’s seat racing karts. It wasn’t long until he was instructing for events and having others vying to get him into their cars. Q2 — And how did your first break come about? Mike Skeen actually became a minor reality TV star on the Speed Channel, believe it or not. While not winning the final show prize, the exposure alone led him to a big fan of the show asking him to race professionally. Q3 — How did you manage to secure your sponsors? And also, how do you build that fanbase that you can go to a sponsor with, as well? Mike Skeen believes that it’s always a struggle to find representation no matter what level you’re at. Even those with established careers are always on the hunt for the next thing. When it comes to his fanbase, he’s always been a grassroots rider. From being extremely accessible as a whole to hosting his own videos, he knows that the work involved on the ground level is certainly worth it. Q4 — What do you think amateurs don’t understand about the industry, that professionals do? There’s seems to be a misconception that as long as you race fast, there will be unlimited opportunities to become a pro driver. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy. Q5 — When did you jump onboard with Racers360 and how’s that been going for you? He started only earlier this year, but so far, it’s been going great. Mike loves that he can offer high-level pro coaching quickly and inexpensively for drivers all around the world, something that didn’t even exist when he was starting out. Q6 — What sort of results have you seen from your students so far? He’s had returning customers already, one of which is now a podium contender under his instruction. It’s still a bit early for him in the program though, so it will take a bit more time to show the results that he’s been striving for. Q7 — And are you a contract instructor? How does that work? Right now, it’s one-offs, simply pay-by-session instruction. It’s different rates for different instruction, but all of it is much cheaper than what most charge for a typical day. Q8 — You’re also involved in Circuit Studies. Tell us a bit about that. Mike started Circuit Studies with another coach from the BMW Performance Center, its approach having racers study-specific tracks to help them place as best as they can. It’s completely online and reaches drivers from all over the world. Q9 — What would be one of your favorite races that you’ve had? He really enjoyed the hard and aggressive sprint racing at World Challenge. Another mention is Pikes Peak, where rode against some high-level equipment. He loves cars and machines, so any chance to just be around top-level equipment clearly puts him in his element. Q10 — Do you feel like there’s a difference between the type of people that love sprint racing versus endurance racing? Yes and no. So many of the endurance races nowadays have sprint elements, so, of course, the line gets blurred a little bit. With endurance racing, you really need a great program behind with a great team, great pitstops, a great co-driver. It’s harder to control all of those variables as a single person. When you’re sprint racing, once you’re on the track, it’s more on you as a driver, taking on the pressure and the responsibility yourself. Mike admits he prefers sprint driving for those reasons, but thinks they are both a lot of fun, equally. Q11 — To what degree do you feel like you’re in control as a driver inside the car? How much do you feel like, as a percentage, you’re in control? As a sprint driver, honestly, about 90%. The driver has to do everything incredibly well to succeed. Of course, there’s no substitution for a great team behind you, but obviously, the driver is a massive part of that performance, especially in a sprint race. Q12 — Do you still get nervous as a driver? All the prep is hard work and situations like when you’re just sitting there on the grid waiting to go can be nerve-wracking, but once you’re in the car it all starts to become natural again. Q13 — Making mistakes can be a killer in this industry. How have you gotten better at handling them? Usually, until he gets a good feel for the car, he’ll drive fairly conservatively. At this point in his career, though, he has so much experience driving in different vehicles, he knows his limits and knows exactly when and where to push them. Mike Skeen also considers himself fortunate that he hasn’t made too many big mistakes throughout his professional lifetime, although he knows that they are always bound to happen to even the best drivers. Q14 — What do you feel is one of the biggest things that impacts the way you’ve progressed positively as a driver? One thing he feels that has kept him on track is his analytical and critical personality. He’s the guy that will come home and watch hours of his video while critiquing it. Coaching has helped, too, as it makes him think about why he does what he does on the track. Q15 — How much time do you think new drivers should be spending off the track, as opposed to on the track? Mike’s more preferential towards off the track because he’s a stickler for the fundamentals. The guys that have found success seem to have the driving part down quite naturally. It’s the off-the-track stuff that they’ve devoted time to that propels them to a more successful career.
