The director of DINNER IN AMERICA and CAROLINA CAROLINE has a secret, but it's not hidden under a giant papier maché head. He's spent much of his life as an avid home recorder, generating thousands of songs. There's a direct line between that background and the earworm musical climax of his DINNER IN AMERICA. And when he saw 2014's FRANK, a quirky little movie about a band with no interest in stardom giving their all to recording an album, he saw something familiar in a way he'd never seen on film before (and as a former sensitometry major, he knows a thing or two about film!). Chandler Levack is another of the current class of talented Candian ladies directing fresh, original cinema. Her latest is MILE END KICKS (starring Barbie Ferreira)…and, at the same moment, ROOMMATES, a Happy Madison film starring Sadie Sandler. And she memorably broke onto screen with festival darling I LIKE MOVIES. She joins Jordan to give us a fresh look at our show's most relatable multi-hyphenate, Greta Gerwig. Chandler tells stories inspired by the desire to revisit her own history, and the result (like FRANCES HA or LADYBIRD for Gerwig) is somehow universally relatable.  Then, Jordan has one quick thing about a little movie that could called Blind Cop 2 (read her feature about it from The Action Desk!) Cath will be doing a more detailed view on this material (from episode 14) in an upcoming episode. The second question relates to feeling seen and heard in our adult love relationships and how this is impacted by various factors, how our inner children play a role and some suggestions for how this need can be met. Send us Fan MailThis episode is really special to me.For the first time, my husband Earl is joining me on the podcast, and we're starting a two-part conversation about what it looks like to love your spouse with intention.I share from my heart what has made me feel the most loved in our marriage, not from a place of perfection, but from real life. The kind of love that makes you feel seen, heard, and truly known. We talk about the power of being noticed in the everyday moments, the importance of listening without trying to fix, and how consistent, thoughtful actions can completely change the way your spouse feels.I also open up about the hard moments, when I didn't feel heard, and how we worked through it. Because every marriage will have those moments, but they don't have to break you. They can actually make you stronger when you invite God into them. One of the biggest shifts in our marriage has been committing to pray together daily. It's created a deeper connection than I can even fully explain, and it's become something we truly depend on.Marriage is not about getting it all right. It's about showing up with intention, keeping a soft heart, choosing forgiveness, and letting God shape your love over time.If you're a husband, my prayer is that something in this episode helps you love your wife in a deeper way. If you're a wife, I hope you feel seen and encouraged in your own journey. This is just the beginning of the conversation, and I'm so grateful you're here.Scripture referenced: Ephesians 5:25 1 Corinthians 13 James 1:19 Galatians 5:13

Welcome to this week's episode of When Words Fail, Music Speaks—the podcast that explores how melody and lyric become a lifeline in the toughest moments.I'm your host, James Cox, and today I'm sitting down with folklaur—the soulful indie‑folk artist behind the hauntingly intimate album Leaves & Letters. Hailing from Philadelphia, Laura (who cleverly turned her English‑major love of stories into the moniker “folklaur”) invites us into the quiet spaces where her music lives—those still‑water moments that linger long after the final note fades. In our conversation we wander through Philly's vibrant but underrated live‑music scene, swap stories about cheesesteaks and creative compromises, and dig deep into the paradox of being alone to connect with a community. Folklaur shares how she balances raw emotion with lyrical storytelling, wrestles with perfectionism in the studio, and discovers that the most powerful songs are often the ones that feel imperfect. We also get a rapid‑fire “lightning round” that reveals her late‑night writing ritual, her love for silence before a track, the word she over‑uses (community), and the artists who shape her—Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks, Noah Kahn, and Greasy Abrams. If you've ever felt unheard, wrestled with anxiety, or simply crave music that feels like a gentle, honest conversation, stay tuned. By the end of this episode you'll understand why Folklore believes that “music heals because it's real,” and you'll leave with a renewed sense that you matter—just as her songs intend.Press play, settle in, and let the healing power of Folklore's music speak.

The holidays can feel magical—but not for some choosing between rent and a gift to their child. We pull back the curtain on how our community makes Christmas possible for 1,100 to 1,200 neighbors, puts on shelter parties, and delivers gifts to homes, all while continuing to provide food bags that turn a quiet kitchen into a holiday table. Along the way, we talk candidly about spending money the right way, the impact of possible funding cuts, and the practical steps that keep people housed, fed, and seen. You'll hear the heart behind simple requests like compression socks and the joy of a gift addressed by name, as volunteers wrap, sort, deliver, and then pivot to stock shelves for a food line serving hundreds by mid-afternoon. Trust matters, too: monthly board oversight, independent accounting, and strong ratings from Charity Navigator and Ministry Watch ensure every donation is stewarded well. This isn't about checking a box—it's about lowering barriers, restoring dignity, and widening the circle so no one misses the season's light because a system felt too heavy to climb. If you've wondered where a small act fits in a big need, this conversation gives you clear on-ramps. Teenager gifts like spa kits, wallets, body care sets, sports gear, watches, belts, gloves, beard kits, tool kits, and kids' clothing sets are in short supply.
