Two brothers get together each week to discuss the long running sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, one a nerdy expert on all things SNL, the other a cynical casual viewer with much less love for its lore. Every week we recap the current episode (or classic eps during off weeks), discuss various…

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're mourning democracy as we watch an episode of Saturday Night Live.  It's Season 45, an era of the show that George doesn't even enjoy and Ben really hates.  RuPaul hosts and Justin Bieber sings.  Don't worry, you'll get to hear George's opinions about Kitty Scott Claus as well as Ben's pleas to hunt down all Trump supporters.  This is not a good episode of SNL.  It's not a terrible episode, it's just kinda boring.  We get some Thirsty Cops, RuPaul reading some books, two random ladies screaming in a restaurant, two other random ladies sitting on a couch talking about shit, a family game of Charades going wrong, Chad gets dolled up like a drag queen, a debate cold open that Ben didn't even watch, and the immortal Beck Bennett ruining his life over a game of Boop-It (which is the only thing we liked in the whole episode).  Enjoy!  This episode was fan requested, if you'd like to request anything hit us up!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're gearing up for the 2024 election by watching a political comedy from 1995.  Canadian Bacon is the only non-documentary directed by Michael Moore and it's a cold war satire about a fake conflict with our neighbors to the north.  It's fine.  It's the last movie released to feature John Candy's as he died the year before.  It's got Rhea Pearlman obsessed with a building that looks like a penis.  It's got Rip Torn yelling and grunting.  It's got a pretty fun cast also featuring Alan Alda and Kevin Pollak.  But most importantly it features cameos from two SNL alums in Jim Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.  This is our last podcast before the 2024 election but due to an uploading issue it's being released a week later so enjoy that brief moment of time where we still had some hope.  You can also watch this episode on YouTube (search Saturday Night Jive Podcast and you should be able to find it) as we recorded this live to YouTube when we thought we'd never be able to post a new podcast episode.  Anyway, Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Three To Tango for some reason.  A romantic comedy starring 3 one-time SNL hosts in Matthew Perry, Neve Campbell, and Dylan McDermott where Chandler Bing has to pretend he's gay to appease his boss while romancing his boss's mistress.  We thought it would be more problematic than it turned out to be.  So as a bonus to a conversation on a mediocre and forgettable movie we also rank the Hottest SNL Cast Member by fan request.  So listen to us drool over some hunky and sexy Not Ready For Primetime Players then listen to us talk about Matthew Perry's hair.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

As you're gearing up for spooky season we watched the spookiest episode in Saturday Night Live history.  It's the infamous Season 7 episode hosted by Donald Pleasence with musical guest Fear.  This episode aired on Halloween night and the show took full advantage of that.  We get a British soldier sawing his own leg off, a woman cleaning up the mess from her recently murdered husband through song, a pumpkin committing seppuku, a family sitting down to a sugar breakfast, a random John Belushi cameo, a talk show ending in murder, Brian DePalma ripping off Hitchcock, body horror with joggers, a Jekyll & Hyde Jerry Lewis, and most terrifying of all a musical version of MacBeth.  This one's got a lot of blood, a lot of gore, and concludes in one of the most infamous musical performance of all time.  Grab your smashing pumpkin and don't forget to vomit for luck .  Enjoy!  This episode was fan requested, if you'd like to request anything hit us up!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

By popular demand we watched a "classic" episode of SNL from Season 4 hosted by Frank Zappa.  This episode is notorious for being terrible and Zappa has been on many Worst Host Ever lists.  Turns out it's all true.  This sucked.  Zappa doesn't give a shit during the whole episode, every sketch is way too long, and it's a pretty dismal affair all around.  George defends Zappa a little (at least musically) but Ben hates this man's guts.  Take a trip up to Freak Mountain and hang with us as we don't do drugs.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Thomas And The Magic Railroad from 2000 starring 17-time SNL host Alec Baldwin as Mr. Conductor.  So this was a huge mistake.  Turns out this movie isn't interested in helping you understand what the hell is going on so we spend the majority of the podcast simply confused by the lore of magical trains who don't move their mouths when they talk.  We also had no idea this was related to Shining Time Station starring George Carlin and Ringo Starr as Mr. Conductor, we thought that was a different thing.  It could be a totally different thing, this could have nothing to do with anything, we have no clue and the movie doesn't seem to either.  Help us construct this 1,000 shit puzzle as this is the most perplexing movie we've watched since Southland Tales.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

We lost a legend recently and this week on Saturday Night Jive we watched the Bob Newhart episode of SNL from the disastrous Season 20.  In the height of SNL's "bad boy" era, they brought on the television icon to class up the joint a little bit.  What results is an all-around solid and fun show, while maybe not the downright classic that George remembered from his youth.  We get a cold open about the Colin Ferguson trial, a Bob Newhart monologue, Jay Mohr dressed as Ricki Lake, Chris Farley promoting his book of world records, Norm MacDonald anchoring Weekend Update, a very bad Baywatch parody, Bob giving an interview to a disgruntled postal employee, Farley and Chris Elliott playing "Hi, Bob", a manic depressive sports announcer, and the pleasant voice of Des'ree.  R.I.P. This week on Saturday Night Jive We watched Meatballs Part 2 because Bill Murray was in the first Meatballs.  We've never seen the first Meatballs movie but that doesn't matter since this movie was never intended as a sequel to Meatballs.  It was just a movie that resembled Meatballs a lot (we suppose as we've never seen it) that featured a character named Meathead that they renamed Meatballs 2 after the fact.  Life's funny sometimes, but Meatballs 2 is not funny.  There's an alien in this movie, but that's not fun at all.  Richard Mulligan, Paul Reubens, and John Larroquette all waste their talent.  It's a real big bummer of a film but special thanks to Elayne Boosler for all you do.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

The Other Sister directed by our good friend Garry Marshall and starring Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi as two mentally challenged adults who find love is a movie that shouldn't have been made.  We shouldn't have watched it.  In fact, this movie killed the podcast for a little bit as it sent George down an existential rabbit hole where he questioned all reality.  We recorded this episode a while ago but decided not to release it for a variety of reasons (don't worry, it's not like it's terribly offensive or anything but that should explain why we talk about the lead singer of Smash Mouth dying several months after it happened).  What was originally going to be a lost episode is now available for you to listen and judge us for picking a movie like this to watch and then realize that we can't mock it without sounding like dickheads.  Just remember, we're good people who made a mistake.  There's not even an SNL alum to justify this so we should learn from this and stick to only watching movies starring Dan Aykroyd or Tim Kazurinsky on Saturday Night Jive.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

And we're back with another installment of our award winning segment ...And We're Back! where we take a deep dive into an SNL recurring character and watch all their appearances.  We're also back to doing episodes of Saturday Night Jive after a hiatus that is all Garry Marshall's fault.  This week we're talking Mango played by the inimitable Chris Kattan.  This character has more layers than we anticipated.  Since there are so many SNL appearances from Mango we decided to push ourselves to the limit and see how many we can watch before we tap out.  Surprisingly, we wanted to keep going but that would have resulted in a 4 hour podcast so consider this part 1 of the Mango saga.  We also track down the whereabouts of Chris Gaines and Greg from Dharma & Greg.  Enjoy!Sketches IncludeMango - Season 23, Episode 14 hosted by Garth BrooksMango - Season 23, Episode 20 hosted by David DuchovnyMango & Kiwi - Season 24, Episode 5 hosted by David SpadeMango - Season 24, Episode 18 hosted by Cuba Gooding, Jr.Mango - Season 25, Episode 4 hosted by Dylan McDermottGarth Brooks Monologue - Season 25, Episode 5 hosted by Garth BrooksDressing Room - Season 25, Episode 5 hosted by Garth BrooksMango - Season 25, Episode 8 hosted by Danny DeVitoFull archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

It's Ben's pick this week on Saturday Night Jive and since he's not bound by the rules of picking movies that relate to SNL we watched the Don Ho classic Joe's Apartment from 1996.  A beautiful love story about a kid in the big city fighting against corporate greed and trying to make his way in a world that doesn't understand him.  Also there's animated roaches that annoy and ruin every scene with their sped up voices.  This movie stars Jerry O'Connell, Robert Vaughn, and the amazing thespians Don Ho and Pepa.  MTV's first foray into feature films is a big old mess.  It's also not that interesting to talk about so we spend the majority of the podcast talking about George driving his wife to an emergency room through a tornado and playing a new game based on the website Common Sense Media.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

You like hearing people talk about an old ass episode of SNL?  Well, this is the podcast for you!  This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Season 20 Episode 5 hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker with musical guest R.E.M..  It's one of the worst episodes in the show's history.  This was the week where Michael O'Donoghue died and the Republicans took control of congress and the whole show feels like a liberal wake.  We got some good old fashioned SNL racism with a sketch taking place in a Fortune Cookie Factory, bad Brooklyn accents, Adam Sandler and Michael McKean fighting over Sarah through song, some classic Norm MacDonald jokes, Robert Evans trying to rape young ladies, and quite possibly the worst SNL sketch ever in Munchkinland.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched the John Leguizamo classic The Pest from 1997.  John stars as the most annoying character ever put on film who is hunted by a Nazi in a spoof of The Most Dangerous Game.  This film has a small SNL connection as the director of this also directed a Saturday Night Christmas Special.  It also features that little scamp Jeffrey Jones who has made numerous appearances on this podcast since he's been in a lot of bad movies.  Here he plays a part he's played before, the villain who you root for because you really want this Nazi to murder the main character.  This movie is so racist it makes you root for a Nazi played by a convicted sex predator.  We talk about the differences between a fat ass and a big butt, poop, vomit, birds eating vomit and then pooping out the vomit on a guy, it's a terribly gross movie.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're watching a notorious episode of Saturday Night Live.  It's Season 35 Episode 6 hosted by January Jones with musical guest Black Eyed Peas.  The lovely Miss Jones was starring on an Emmy winning television show at the time so one would only assume she could hold her own on a live sketch comedy show.  All that hope died when she audibly asks what camera she should look at in her first sketch appearance.  What follows is a lot of farts, a lot of gay panic, and worst of all 3 songs from Black Eyed Peas.  Surprisingly, we're torn on this one.  George, a lifelong SNL fan, thinks it's the trainwreck it is historically perceived to be.  Ben on the other hand liked the farts, but maybe that's because he hates this long running show.  Sketches include a Joe Biden cold open, Kathie Lee Gifford getting beaten up by Black Eyed Peas, Grace Kelly farting during Rear Window, Kristen Wiig lezzing out over January Jones, A guide to throwing a 1960's dinner party, Dr. Jekyll explaining a gay Mr. Hyde, Andy Samberg sitting on a toilet, Jason Sudeikis and January looking at clouds, plus Lou Dobbs, Kim Kardashian, and Jon Bovi on Weekend Update.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here
