Episode 51 – Emmy Vadnais, OTR/L interviews Dr. Paul J. Leslie about "Magical Healing" on 12/08/21. Paul shares that magical healing can occur when a therapist or health care practitioner moves beyond the medical or disease based model that primarily focuses on a problem. Magical healing happens in an interaction model where both the client and practitioner are alive, dynamic, flowing, being spontaneous in the moment, and in realm of intuition. He shares that many therapists adhere to what they consider safe theories and techniques and cling to linear approaches when helping clients. Moving into the realm of the unknown, outside of every day experiences, and trusting oneself, can create mastery through mystery. Dr. Paul J. Leslie is a psychotherapist, educator, and international trainer who has extensive experience in creative, resource directed approaches to working with clients. He offers training and coaching to other professionals to help them find innovative ways in which they can bring more creativity, wisdom, and healing to their work. He assists others in becoming open to the magic and mystery of life while transcending the limiting patterns which bind them. He is also an author who writes in the areas of psychotherapy, healing, and personal transformation. One of his most recent books is, “The Art of Creating a Magical Session: Key Elements for Transformative Psychotherapy.” Learn more at https://drpaulleslie.com/. Emmy is the author of "Intuitive Development: How to Trust Your Inner Knowing for Guidance with Relationships, Health, and Spirituality." This week's show is with Dr. Paul J. Leslie. Paul is a psychotherapist, author, and educator in Aiken, South Carolina. Paul is a licensed therapist and a National Board Certified Fellow in Hypnotherapy. He has a doctorate in Counseling Psychology and is presently the coordinator of the psychology program at Aiken Technical College. He has authored eight books which focus on the areas of transformative psychotherapy, healing, shamanism, and personal development. Paul is a popular trainer of Solution-Based therapies, Ericksonian Hypnosis, and creative coaching applications. In this show, Paul and Lian explored the parallels between magic and psychotherapy, the power of our context for creating the life we live, how and why we make distinctions and how they can be limiting, and how we can move from a “problem solving existence” to a magical life in which we listen to our own hearts to guide us. I'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below. What you'll learn from this episode: What is your Context? This is the filter through which you will see everything and create within. Paul talked about the way we make distinctions - this is natural and unavoidable, the invitation is to notice when our distinction has become a problem or limitation that is creating a life that isn't the one we desire I love how Paul talked about experience vs information... this is especially relevant for coaches and therapists but is actually so helpful for all of us who wish to create a life of wonder and meaning. Paranormal activity in therapy sessions. This week I am talking to Paul J Leslie about his book 'Shadows in the Session: The Presence of the Anomalous in Psychotherapy'. By examining research into the supernatural conducted by the early founders of psychotherapy, along with first person accounts from therapists who have experienced strange events in their therapy sessions, this book provides readers with a peek at a hidden area of psychotherapy that is rarely discussed. The “paranormal” is not something that many would connect to the field of psychotherapy, but whether one believes in the phenomena or not, this book enlightens the reader that such occurrences continue to be experienced by both clients and their therapists. BioPaul J. Leslie is an author, educator, and psychotherapist in Aiken, South Carolina. He specializes in creative, resource-directed approaches to working with individuals and families. Our good friend Paul J. Leslie has written yet another book, this time "Transforming Themes: Creative perspectives on therapeutic interaction". So we thought it best to zoom across to the United States to have a chat with him about his book and if we can help at all with his OCBD (obsessive/compulsive bookwriting disorder). It was a great chat, but we think he's still going to continue to write books. For more please check out the landing page for this episodes for links and other info! Please leave a review!
