In the 90s, if two men had sex and one was under 21, both could be imprisoned, while straight people could legally have sex at age 16. This inequality could not last, and that's thanks to campaigners such as Hugo Greenhalgh and Euan Sutherland, supported by Stonewall. This is the story of their campaign to equalise the law, and of the Switchboard volunteers who helped. Tash and Adam also hear from Phil Samba, from Prepster and the Love Tank, about his work on campaigning around queer sex today.Content warning: homophobic language.TV clips from Age of Dissent, directed by Will Parry. The Log Books — stories from Britain's LGBTQI+ history and conversations about being queer today. #SexwithTopher is back. Episode 3 is all about SEXUAL HEALTH. All the nitty-gritty details of what happens when you go to a GUM clinic for your 3-monthly sexually transmitted infections and disease checks. There is no shame in getting checked. I also chat to social activist, writer and the strategic lead of #PrEP4QueerMenOfColour, Phil Samba. We discuss his PrEP activism, the complexities of coming out as gay as a person-of-colour and his plans for the future. We recorded this a few days before the £16 million fund for PrEP on the NHS was announced - and Phil is one of the people we can thank for it. Great timing! Reece Parkinson and guests talk STIs, confidence and sexual health myths. Gay and bisexual men have seen the most significant decline in new infections of HIV, with rates falling by 71%. But we don't see the same effect in straight communities. There are over 100,000 people living with HIV in the UK and 41% of straight people diagnosed were black African men and women. Phil Samba, Derek Owusu and Dr Michael Brady join Reece to discuss the stigmas in the black community and the benefits of Prep. Sarah Mulindwa, a nurse and TV Presenter known for Channel 4’s The Sex Clinic, opens up about the impact of sexual health on your self-confidence and debunks some sexual health myths.
Sexual Health Advocate Phil Samba is a force. He is on a path to educating men, of all backgrounds, about the importance of sexual healthcare and positive attitudes towards sex. We discuss 'coming out', positive mental health practices, therapy and how this all aligns within his context as a queer Black man. Time To Talk is a place where men come together to discuss topics that don't get talked about enough, with vulnerability and openness at its core, to help get men (and eventually others) talking about things they claim to never speak about.Check out Phil out on socials: @IdiosyncraticXL#BooksThatMatter: - Bullet Journal Method, by Ryder Carrol- When You're Engulfed In Flames, by David SedarisHashtag - #TTTwithAlex Hit me up on - Twitter: @tttalkpodInsta - @alexreadsVero - @alexreadsFacebook - @TimeToTalkPod

In this weeks Sex Talk we hear about the experiences of black gay & bisexual men. HIV diagnoses among Asian & black African gay & bisexual men have been rising for the past 10 years. Marc Thompson, co-founder of BlackOut UK, an online community for gay black men & Phil Samba from The Terrence Higgins Trust chat to Adele and Hilary about racism that they have experienced in the gay community. They also discuss stereotypes, sexual health, homophobia and coming out in the black community in the UK.
At just 28, Phil Samba is already a legend. When he writes, we read and when he speaks, we listen. His openness about both his sexuality and his sexual health means he’s often inundated by other young Black men who want to know more about him — how he’s cultivated his openness, how he’s come out and how he’s become the young man he is. Phil is already miles beyond where I was at 28 and sitting in conversation with him reveals a man who is leaning into his greatness. We speak on our relationships with our parents, the role education and representation plays in preventing homophobic beliefs taking hold — even within ourselves — and finding our strength outside of the prescribed strength tropes so closely associated to Black people.I highly recommend you follow Phil Samba on Twitter: @idiosyncraticXLBusy Being Black is the podcast exploring how we live in the fullness of our queer Black lives.
