This week I talked to attorney and writer Savala Nolan. Her newest book, Good Woman, which was named a Most Anticipated Feminist Book of 2026 by Ms. Magazine, is out now. I got to read an early copy and loved it. She writes with raw honesty about making herself smaller, both literally and metaphorically, in order to be a good daughter, a good wife, a good mother, and all the ways she allowed herself to be diminished to keep the peace, and how many others do this too. The 12 essays blend cultural commentary, personal experience, reportage, and history. We talked about the vulnerable process of writing a personal book of essays, including writing about divorce, motherhood, and the importance of respecting one's appetite in every way, from creative to physical. I always love talking to Savala and loved getting to catch up with her here. Let us know if you listen.

When your mind whispers “not enough,” it can feel heavy—but it's also an invitation to return to truth. In this episode, we explore how to cultivate awareness around the tone and origin of the “not enough” story, and how often it's rooted in outdated conditioning or someone else's expectations. We talk about recognizing when you're measuring yourself against an old pattern that no longer fits who you are now. We also dive into the freedom of releasing past versions of yourself, letting go of comparison, and choosing self-love as your foundation. Wellness isn't just physical—and it's rarely complicated. In this themed episode of Vibe Science, Ryan Alford explores the mind–body connection, emotional resilience, and why many modern wellness approaches fail by overcomplicating what's inherently natural. Is positive psychology real science… or just another version of “just think positive” that ignores real stress? In this episode of the Free to Be Mindful Podcast, Vanessa De Jesus Guzman sits down with positive psychology expert Diane Lang to explore what the research actually says about gratitude, resilience, mindset, and positive aging. If you are raising kids, juggling work, navigating midlife changes, or feeling stretched thin, you may have wondered whether practices like gratitude really make a difference. Is it toxic positivity? Or is there measurable science behind it?This conversation breaks down:The difference between positive psychology and forced positivityWhy we need three positive emotions to balance one negativeHow gratitude rewires the brain over timeThe role belief systems play in midlife transitions and agingWhy lifestyle and mindset influence longevity more than we thinkPositive psychology does not deny grief, anxiety, or depression. It works alongside therapy, medication, and traditional treatment to build emotional resilience and long-term wellbeing. For moms navigating stress, perimenopause, identity shifts, and the invisible load of family life, this episode offers practical, research-backed habits that are realistic, free, and sustainable.THREE KEY TAKEAWAYS1. Positive psychology is evidence-based and practical. It strengthens resilience without dismissing pain. It is about building emotional capacity, not pretending everything is fine.2. Gratitude and kindness shift your brain over time. Consistent daily practices improve sleep, mood, and stress recovery by retraining your negativity bias.3. Positive aging starts with mindset. Genetics play a role, but lifestyle, belief systems, relationships, and daily habits have significant influence over how we age physically and emotionally.Connect with Diane: https://dianelang.org/ If this episode challenged your thinking or shifted your perspective, share it with another mom who may need it.Because the more good we train our brains to notice, the more grounded we become. In a world where you are free to be anything, you are always free to be mindful.Send a textSupport the show120 COPING SKILLShttps://www.freetobemindful.com/podcast-120copingskillsGET THE MUSE HEADBAND AT A DISCOUNT!https://choosemuse.com/freetobemindfulUse this link to get 15% off your total when you purchase the amazing brain sensing headband that tells you when you're in a meditative state and guides you to improve your practice.LET'S STAY CONNECTED:
When purpose feels lost, it may simply be in transition. In this episode, we explore how to reframe moments of uncertainty as periods of recalibration rather than failure or misdirection. We talk about the importance of feeling your feelings, telling yourself the truth about where you are, and accepting the present moment without getting caught in draining narratives. After spotting a mug on a friends Instagram story that read “Just Keep Swimming — XO Dory,” Candace found herself reflecting on how that simple line holds deeper meaning than we often realize. In seasons where clarity feels far away and everything feels heavy, overwhelming, or uncertain, maybe we're not meant to have all the answers. Maybe we're just meant to keep going. In this episode, Candace explores the quiet resilience required in wintery seasons of life — the times when motivation dips, energy feels low, and the path forward isn't fully clear. If you're in a season where things feel hard, unclear, or slow, this episode is your gentle reminder: you don't need to figure it all out today. You just need to keep swimming.

The Heart & Mind: Emotional Resilience and Becoming the Hero of Your Life What if the quality of your life isn't determined by your circumstances… but by the alignment of your heart and mind? In today's powerful episode, we explore how emotional resilience and intentional thinking work together to create lasting peace, purpose, and transformation. Most of us were never taught how to process emotions. We learned how to perform, achieve, and push through—but not how to sit with discomfort, renew our minds, and take ownership of our inner world. In this episode, you'll learn: Why emotional resilience means being willing to feel any emotion The three ways we tend to mishandle uncomfortable feelings (and what to do instead) How emotions act as fuel—either driving your life forward or keeping you stuck The Becoming Creation Cycle: Thoughts → Feelings → Actions → Results Why you cannot simply “positive think” your way out of unprocessed pain The difference between Emotional Childhood and Emotional Adulthood How to break generational pain patterns and become the hero of your own story We also explore powerful scriptural truths including: “Above all else, guard your heart…” (Proverbs 4:23) “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7) “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2) This episode will help you stop resisting your emotions, stop blaming your circumstances, and start creating a grounded, empowered inner life. In this episode of the Dyslexia Explored Podcast, hosts Darius Namdaran and Jo Lee interview Rose Lord, a neurodivergent entrepreneur and former British champion gymnast who is developing the My Best Mood app to build emotional resilience in children. Rose recounts her journey from having "extreme dyslexia" that left her unable to process written words to finding success through a specialized brain-retraining program and eventually advocating for neurodivergent youth in Parliament. They discuss her innovative platform, which uses AI to turn a child's imagination into personalized digital stories, incorporating evidence-led accessibility features like colored filters and read-aloud functions. The conversation highlights the importance of supporting the "blast radius" of emotional dysregulation within families and Rose' mission to ensure that children feel valued and understood rather than "fixed".This podcast is sponsored by: Get ivvi notes now: https://ivvi.app/ Links: Ivvi: https://www.ivvi.app/ What is Dyslexia: https://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/dyslexia/about-dyslexia/what-is-dyslexia How to Mindmap: https://www.bulletmapacademy.com/mindmap-beginners My Best Mood website: www.mybestmood.comZing Performance: www.zingperformance.comLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/roselord/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/my.best.mood Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mybestmoodofficial/ Interested in being a guest? Success and happiness are often treated as goals to chase—but what if they actually begin with the health of your brain?
Stress has become a way of life—but what if everything you've been told about it is incomplete?
In this episode of Acta Non Verba, Marcus Aurelius Anderson sits down with legendary self-defense expert and fear management coach Tony Blauer for an in-depth discussion on betrayal, resilience, and the power of managing fear in business and life. Tony shares candid stories of being betrayed by trusted partners and employees over his 40+ year career, revealing how he's shortened his recovery time from months to mere hours through the principles he teaches. The conversation explores the "timeline of violence" concept applied to business relationships, the importance of trusting your instincts, and why fear—when properly managed—becomes your greatest asset rather than your enemy. Episode Highlights [4:18] Betrayal is Inevitable for Innovators - If you're creating something original and breaking new ground, people will copy you. Tony shares how he went from taking months to recover from betrayal to processing it in 24 hours by building his "resilience muscle" through experience and applying his own fear management principles. [33:34] The Three I's: Instincts, Intuition, and Intelligence - Tony reveals the core of his SPEAR system's soft skills: your instincts give you a "bad feeling," your intuition whispers warnings, but cognitive dissonance often makes you ignore both. Learning to trust these signals and "choose safety" is critical in business partnerships, relationships, and dangerous situations. [53:54] You Can't Be Brave If You're Not Afraid - The primary ingredient of courage is fear. Tony explains why there are things in life you must do afraid, and you'll never not be afraid of them. The key is managing fear rather than eliminating it—mismanaged fear is always negative, but managed fear is always positive. [69:50] The Rational-Lie - We all rationalize why we should or shouldn't do something, but when you put a hyphen between "rational" and "lie," you realize you're selling yourself a story. Tony shares how recognizing your rational-lies—whether in business decisions, relationships, or self-defense situations—is the first step to making better choices. Tony Blauer is a pioneer in close-quarters combat, self-defense, and fear management training with over 40 years of experience. He created the SPEAR System (Spontaneous Protection Enabling Accelerated Response), the world's only behaviorally-based self-defense protocol founded on neurobiology, kinesiology, and psychology. Tony has trained military special forces, law enforcement agencies, and martial artists worldwide, and his research on fear and human performance has influenced everyone from Hollywood actors to elite operators. He's also developed the "Know Fear" program, teaching people how to convert fear into fuel for peak performance in high-stress situations. At 65, Tony continues to innovate and mentor through Blauer Training Systems, sharing hard-won wisdom on resilience, courage, and the intersection of physical and psychological preparedness. Have you been feeling an unexplained anxiety, a low-grade tension, or a sadness with no clear source? Do you feel perpetually “on alert,” emotionally raw, or disconnected from joy even when your personal life seems stable? You are not broken, and you are not alone. In this episode of Infinite Life, Infinite Wisdom, Susan Grau addresses the palpable yet often nameless weight so many are carrying. This isn't about politics or prediction. It's a compassionate exploration of what it means to be a sensitive, perceptive human when the collective consciousness itself feels dysregulated.Susan explains how widespread grief, fear, and unresolved trauma create an atmosphere of “ambient suffering” that our nervous systems, especially those of empaths, healers, and caregivers, cannot help but absorb. This leads to symptoms like chronic anxiety, irritability, emotional numbness, brain fog, and exhausting mental loops as our systems search for closure and safety that the external world cannot provide.Moving beyond spiritual bypassing, Susan offers a practical and somatic path back to yourself. She reframes anxiety not as a thought problem, but as a nervous system signal. She redefines confusion not as incompetence, but as the necessary “space between stories” when old maps no longer fit. The core of healing, she reveals, lies in one vital shift, moving from the question “Is this story true?” to “Is this story regulating my nervous system?”This episode is a gentle, firm guide to empowerment through inner authority. It's about learning to discern what energy is yours to carry and what belongs to the collective, and how to release the latter without guilt. Susan provides actionable anchors, like pausing your internal narrative, regulating your body, and shrinking your timeframe to the present moment, to help you reclaim your grounding, your peace, and your power. In This Episode:[00:00] Introduction [01:24] Collective emotional overwhelm[02:38] Dysregulation and self-regulation[03:38] Ambient suffering and emotional reactivity[06:12] Nervous system and collective stress[07:27] Symptoms of overload and disconnection[08:24] Anxiety: body vs. mind[10:30] Confusion as a developmental stage[12:40] The stories we tell ourselves[14:50] Survival stories and letting go[16:58] Regulating the nervous system[19:01] Empowerment without bypassing[20:17] Personal vs. collective anxiety[22:36] Grounding and sensation of safety[24:06] Returning to self: practical solutions[25:42] The limits of control and self-relationship[28:55] ConclusionNotable Quotes[01:19] "Nothing's wrong with you. And I don't mean that in a motivational way. I mean it in a psychological way. In an emotional way."[02:59] "We don't need to bury our heads in the sand... But how do we self-regulate so that we can handle what's going on?"[08:19] "Our nervous system needs closure, and when it doesn't have it, it plays a loop in our brains."[11:21] "Confusion is the space between the stories."[11:38] "The old map no longer fits, but the new map hasn't been drawn yet."[16:27] "A thought can feel absolutely true and still not be truth."[21:38] "You are not meant to metabolize the entire world. You are allowed to release what does not belong to you."[22:43] "Safety is not an idea. It's a sensation."[19:01] "Empowerment doesn't have to be loud.."[29:02] "The only control you have is over you. And that is the scariest comment, isn't it?"[30:08] "Don't run from fear. We've all heard the advice: feel the fear and do it anyway. But what if pushing through fear isn't always courage — what if sometimes, it's self-betrayal?In this episode of Your Courageous Life, we're unpacking how to know when “doing it scared” helps you grow — and when it's a sign you're overriding your own intuition, plus a practical framework to decode which one you're feeling in the moment. If you've ever forced yourself to speak up, stay, leave, try harder, or tough it out when your body said “no,” this episode will help you reconnect with self-trust and courage that honors your whole self — not just your willpower.

You've heard "self-care" a million times, but what does it actually mean to put yourself first when the world feels heavy, everyone needs something from you, and burnout is practically a badge of honor? In this episode, we flip the script: self-care isn't a luxury, a mani-pedi, or something you "earn." It's the foundation of presence, emotional resilience, and the only way to sustainably show up for others. We share what real self-care looks like (from morning silence to intuitive breaks), why boundaries matter, and how vulnerability, not perfection, builds trust, health, and connection. This one's both a reminder and a call to action: take care of you first, so everything else has meaning and energy behind it. Some key takeaways from this episode: Self-care fuels everything else. Putting yourself first is what lets you show up for everyone else. It's not about facials or free time, it's about what actually recharges you so you don't burn out trying to hold it all together. There's no one-size-fits-all. Whether it's a quiet morning or simply knowing when to pause, the point isn't perfection, it's presence. Tune in, check in, and adjust as you go. Support should feel like support. A few people who honor your boundaries and show up when it counts will always matter more than a crowd. Community is quality, not quantity.
Six weeks before I recorded this episode, I woke up early with my heart pounding so hard I couldn't ignore it. The house was dark, everything was quiet, and as I lay there thinking about the medication I was on, the surgeries I'd been through, the pace I'd been keeping, this thought came to me so clearly: This is my life. No one is going to fix this for me. I am the one who has to change this. I was dealing with chronic health issues, and my body was forcing me to confront some hard truths about how I was living. That morning, I realized I couldn't keep pushing through and ignoring what my body was trying to tell me. So I did something that terrified me—I took a full month off from my podcast even though I had 40 people waiting to be guests. That was back in 2019, and I'm re-airing this episode now because I'm taking my own advice again. This time it's different—my health issues from 2019 have resolved, and I'm not in crisis mode. I'm pausing this February simply because I need space to breathe, think, and recalibrate. I'm not waiting for the summer chaos or for things to fall apart. I'm choosing rest before I need it desperately, and I want you to know that you can do the same. In this episode, you'll learn:
What happens when an 18-year-old says out loud what most adults are afraid to admit? In this episode of Men Talking Mindfulness, Will Schneider and Jon Macaskill sit down with Carter Helbig—the youngest guest in the show's history and the voice behind a viral graduation speech that reached millions.Carter speaks openly about grief, suicide loss, gratitude, and growing up under constant pressure. Let's unpack a truth most people don't want to admit: the thing you're avoiding is action. When you leave inaction untouched, it does not sit quietly. It grows. It drains you. And it quietly reshapes your life through mental drag, stress, and procrastination. Unaddressed conversations don't sit still. Ignored decisions don't pause. Delayed action doesn't disappear. It compounds. It leaks energy, creates anxiety, and slowly trains your nervous system to stay stuck. In this episode, Troy introduces the Bison Theory, a counterintuitive truth rooted in real behavior: while most animals run away from storms and stay trapped in them longer, bison run straight into the storm, shortening how long they suffer. This episode isn't about hype or grit for grit's sake. It's about why facing the thing you're avoiding is the fastest path to transformation, and how movement, not certainty, is what breaks the loop. If you've felt the weight of indecision, the drag of unfinished business, or the mental exhaustion of too many open loops, this conversation will feel uncomfortably familiar in the best way. This Episode Covers:Why avoidance is active, not neutral, and how it quietly compounds stressHow “direction determines duration” when it comes to pain and changeWhy facing the storm creates momentum even before clarity shows upHow anticipation of pain often hurts longer than the pain itselfThe real reason action restores energy faster than motivation ever willHow to stop negotiating with reality and start reclaiming agencyWhy transformation begins the moment you turn toward what you've been running fromBeyond The Episode Gems:Subscribe To My New Weekly LinkedIn Newsletter: Strategize.
