At The Red Eye, we tell true stories from the skies and the ground. They're funny, heartbreaking, and sometimes downright shocking - but today's story is different. It isn't just about a dramatic in-flight medical emergency. It's about the emotional toll it left behind, and what happens when the strength we've relied on for so long suddenly cracks. The crew member who donated this story, a seasoned flight attendant and cancer survivor, has weathered countless red-eyes. But when a passenger collapsed mid-flight on her London–Nigeria route, she found herself alone in the galley, protecting the cockpit, caring for an unwell passenger, and carrying the impossible weight of life-or-death decisions she wasn't trained to make. The real turbulence came later, alone in a hotel room far from home. For crew, the unspoken rule is simple: smile, stay composed, and leave your problems at the door. But the truth is that behind the uniform, flight attendants carry the same struggles as anyone else - grief, illness, financial stress, loneliness. And sometimes, the pause button we press during service can't hold it all back. This episode sheds light on the hidden mental health struggles faced by aviation professionals and reminds us that no one, no matter how strong, is immune to reaching their limit. It's a story about resilience, vulnerability, and the courage it takes to finally say, “I'm not okay.”Resources & HelplinesIf you or someone you know is struggling, please know that support is available:U.S. — 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 anytime, day or nightUK — Samaritans: Dial 116 123 for freeAustralia — Lifeline: Dial 13 11 14India — AASRA: +91-98204 66726SSend us a text! This week we're doing something a little different on the Awake & Winning Podcast. Instead of Kaylor in the host chair, we're sharing an interview where he was the guest. Our friend Barb Moylan, the powerhouse behind Bam Fit 4 Life, brought Kaylor on her Facebook Live show for a raw conversation about ADHD, depression, and what it really takes to take back control of your life. Kaylor gets vulnerable about the years he felt like he was stuck “in the trunk” of his own life, the rock-bottom moment that cracked everything open, and how he flipped the script on ADHD, seeing it as a superpower instead of a disability. He also breaks down the simple but powerful fundamentals that changed everything: testing for root causes, dialing in sleep and nutrition, training hard, and keeping promises to himself. Barb's mission to help women reclaim strength and sovereignty is the perfect match for this convo, and you'll walk away inspired to rethink health, purpose, and freedom on your own terms. Episode Highlights: ADHD reframe, root-cause testing, circadian rhythm, clean nutrition, strength training, anxiety tools, promises to self, entrepreneurship, mission first, men's mental health, pharmaceutical trade-offs, sovereignty Takeaways: You are not a victim Reframe ADHD as a superpower and align your work Test for root causes before you treat Regulate sleep and light exposure daily Balance blood sugar and lower inflammation Keep promises to yourself to crush anxiety Build a mission that's bigger than you If this episode lit a fire under you, don't keep it to yourself. Staying positive doesn't mean pretending everything is fine—it means honouring what you're truly feeling while still giving yourself space for ease. In this episode, we talk about the importance of being authentic, transparent, and vulnerable without the need to over-explain or over-share. Simply saying, “I'm not up for this right now,” can be both genuine and empowering. We also explore the wisdom of stillness—how, like muddy water that clears when left alone, our emotions and thoughts can settle with time. By inviting pause, calming the nervous system, and practicing patience with ourselves, we can navigate the tougher moments with more grace and compassion, allowing positivity to return naturally.Have you joined our Facebook Group yet? Leslie Randolph introduces the idea of deliberate discomfort and why it's the key to both confident teens and confident women. Drawing from her own life and her coaching work, Leslie unpacks how stretching beyond what feels easy builds the emotional resilience we need to face challenges, pursue big goals, and show up with confidence in everyday life. In this week's episode of the LDS Mission Podcast, Episode 222: Trading Out the Tough Stuff, I'm sharing a concept that has been on my mind as I've worked with missionaries, returned missionaries, and missionary moms. Life on the mission—and after—can feel really tough. Whether it's stress, overwhelm, loneliness, or self-doubt, it's easy for our brains to shut down and say, “this is just too hard.” But what I've learned, and what I want to share with you, is that most of the time we're not escaping the tough stuff—we're simply trading one set of hard emotions for another. In this episode, I'll walk you through how to notice this pattern, how to stop resisting the difficulty, and how to choose which “hard” is worth it. You'll hear real-life examples from missionaries, service missions, jobs, relationships, and even my own family. Together, we'll explore why confidence is less about capability and more about being willing to feel discomfort, and how emotional resilience comes from making peace with the fact that life is always 50/50—half good and half hard. My hope is that Trading Out the Tough Stuff will help you recognize the power you have in deciding where to put your energy. You get to choose the tough emotions that move you closer to the person you want to become. Instead of trying to avoid the hard, you can lean into it with intention, faith, and confidence—and find freedom in the process. As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. In this deeply personal episode, I share a journal entry I wrote just weeks before dropping my boys off at college, closing my business, grieving friendship shifts, and walking through the final days of my mother-in-law's Alzheimer's journey. This isn't a strategy session. It's an honest reflection on what it feels like to let go of everything familiar—and face the silence that follows. I call it The Void—and if you've ever been there too, I hope this episode helps you feel seen, supported, and a little less alone.Whether you're grieving a role, a relationship, or just sitting in a season of waiting, this conversation is for you.Key Takeaways:You're not the only one feeling lost after the kids leave or the business endsLetting go isn't failure—it's often the first step of obedienceSometimes the hardest part isn't what we lose—it's the quiet space left behindYou can't out-strategize surrender or hustle through heartbreakGod is still working—even when life feels foggy, slow, or silentThe daily things (walks, dishes, dinner) are sacredIt's okay to just be here, to breathe, and to trust His timing Resources:Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/shellyniehaus/Simple Shifts Newsletter: https://resources.shellyniehaus.com/midlifeWomen Entrepreneurs In Prayer Call - https://resources.shellyniehaus.com/prayercall
The emotional rollercoaster of divorce can leave us feeling like we're constantly in survival mode, reacting to every text, comment, or situation with immediate emotion rather than thoughtful response. This heightened state keeps us stuck in cycles that prevent healing and forward movement. I'm talking about this common struggle by exploring the difference between being consumed by emotions and being healthily connected to them. When we're constantly reacting from a place of anger, fear, or hurt, our emotions are actually running the show while we watch helplessly from the passenger seat. When our nervous system stays heightened, our prefrontal cortex (the brain's decision-making part) becomes less flexible. This creates the effect of choices that may not be aligned with what's best and right for you, increased stress, and more negative emotions. The solution is in creating space between stimulus and response. By validating our feelings without immediately acting on them, we gain the power to choose how we respond. I'll offer practical guidance on shifting from emotional survival to emotional resilience through simple but powerful practice in this episode. This practice transforms not only our divorce experience but ripples through every relationship in our lives. As we model emotional regulation, we become powerful architects of our future rather than reactive victims of our circumstances. Ready to stop letting your emotions drive your decisions? This episode provides the roadmap to build emotional resilience that will serve you long after your divorce is finalized. To download your FREE GUIDE: "7-Day Self Trust Reset" click here. Send us a textHave you ever told yourself "I can't do this" based solely on past failures? That moment when your mind convinces you something is impossible despite how much stronger, smarter, or more capable you've become?During a recent Strive Elite workout, I witnessed a member reach her breaking point while attempting an exercise she believed was beyond her capabilities. Tears welled up as she repeatedly told herself she couldn't do it. What followed was a powerful lesson about how our limiting beliefs—often based on outdated experiences—can create artificial barriers to our potential. The breakthrough came from a simple pattern interrupt: standing up, taking a breath, and listening with fresh perspective. After resetting her mindset, this member not only completed the exercise but performed three full sets. The limitation existed solely in her mind, not her physical capabilities.Sometimes we need to borrow belief from others who see potential in us that we don't yet recognize. As a coach, I frequently tell my clients: "I'm not going to ask you to do anything I don't believe you can do." This external confidence can bridge the gap between self-doubt and self-belief until you prove it to yourself through action. This principle applies universally. My entrepreneurial journey includes what I call my "graveyard of businesses"—failed ventures that could have reinforced the belief that success wasn't possible. Instead, I maintained that success was inevitable; it wasn't a question of if, but when. Strive 11 emerged after five years of ups and downs, demonstrating that persistence eventually overcomes temporary failure.Whatever goal you're pursuing, remember that your past performance is not your permanent truth. Set mini-milestones, celebrate small wins, and be willing to step back up to the plate and swing again. Your breakthrough is waiting on the other side of that limiting belief.Have you been holding yourself back based on outdated beliefs about your capabilities? Standing in your kitchen at 8 PM, staring at unwashed dishes and feeling completely overwhelmed by the simplest decisions? You're experiencing what many women face after divorce which is decision paralysis. Even when you absolutely knew ending your marriage was right, the decision fatigue that comes after can leave you questioning your ability to choose anything from breakfast options to career moves. One of my clients said, "I feel like I used all of my decision-making energy just getting out of my marriage," and this summed up what I hear from so many divorcing women as a common struggle. After spending months or years gathering courage for that monumental life decision, even small choices now carry what feels like impossible weight. The challenge isn't just about making decisions. It's about making them as this new version of yourself you're still getting to know. For years, your decision-making muscles were trained to filter choices through questions like "What will keep the peace?" or "What might avoid conflict?" You learned to put everyone else's needs before your own. Now, you're suddenly expected to decide based on what YOU want except that muscle of knowing yourself, your wants, needs and desires has become weak because of years of ignoring it. This episode walks you through four transformative steps to break free from post-divorce paralysis: grounding yourself, learning to process emotions, examining limiting beliefs that keep you stuck, and taking small aligned actions to rebuild self-trust. You'll discover that the courage and wisdom that got you through divorce haven't disappeared; you just need to reconnect with those qualities. To download your FREE GUIDE: "7-Day Self Trust Reset" click here. Most of your pain… might not be physical. In this episode of the Awake & Winning Podcast, Kaylor sits down with Dr. Bradley Nelson, holistic chiropractor and creator of The Emotion Code. With over 35 years of experience, Dr. Nelson explains how unresolved emotional experiences can get “trapped” in the body and lead to chronic pain, illness, and emotional dysregulation. He dives into the quantum physics of energy medicine, shares wild client healing stories, and explains how trapped emotions distort our energy field and sabotage health, relationships, and success. If you've tried everything and still feel blocked, this episode might be the missing link. Episode Highlights: emotional healing, energy medicine, subconscious mind, quantum field, chronic pain, trauma loops, The Emotion Code, disease root causes, alternative healing, bioenergetics, repressed emotions, inherited trauma Takeaways: Most physical pain may stem from trapped emotional energy Emotions are frequencies that lodge in the body when unprocessed Trapped emotions distort energy fields and block healing The subconscious mind is a binary computer storing perfect memory Releasing emotional energy can resolve pain instantly You don't have to re-live trauma to heal it Inherited trauma can be energetically passed down through generations If this episode lit a fire under you, don't keep it to yourself. This episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosted by Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton, explores the critical gap between the training ground and the reality of the field (Amazon Affiliate). While simulations sharpen technical skills, they rarely prepare first responders for the emotional aftermath of a traumatic call. We unpack why this disconnect exists, the hidden cost of unaddressed emotional impact, and how to better equip responders for both the tactical and mental sides of the job. The Strengths of Simulation Training: Why repetitive skill practice builds confidence and speed. How scenario-based drills mimic high-pressure decision-making. Where Simulations Fall Short: The emotional detachment of training compared to real-world trauma. Why stress inoculation doesn't always translate to emotional resilience. The Shock of First-Time Exposure: How sensory details, grief, and chaos hit harder in the field. Why early traumatic experiences can shape long-term coping patterns. Unspoken Cultural Barriers: The expectation to “shake it off” after a difficult call. Why admitting emotional struggle is still stigmatized in many departments. The Long-Term Impact of Ignored Fallout: How cumulative stress and unresolved trauma build toward burnout or PTSD. The ripple effect on relationships, decision-making, and mental health. Strategies to Bridge the Gap: Integrate Emotional Debriefs into Training: Include discussions on emotional response alongside skill critique. Normalize Mental Rehearsal for Trauma: Practice emotional grounding and self-talk techniques before the real thing. Pair Training with Peer Support Exposure: Introduce recruits to safe spaces for sharing and processing. Leadership Modeling Vulnerability: Supervisors openly discussing their own emotional fallout experiences. Ongoing Mental Resilience Training: Treat emotional readiness like physical skills—requiring regular refreshers. This episode challenges the idea that technical proficiency alone equals readiness, reminding us that true preparedness includes the mental tools to face what happens after the sirens fade.
In this week's episode, #220 - A Day in the Life, I'm getting real with you. Instead of a polished outline or a carefully planned topic, I wanted to give you an honest window into my day—the ups, the lows, the emotions I've been feeling, and the lessons I've been learning in real time. My hope is that by sharing my own experience, you'll see pieces of your own life and mission journey reflected back at you. We talk about what it means to normalize bad days, to stop trying to “fix” ourselves, and to create a peaceful space to simply be human. Whether you're preparing to serve, out on your mission, recently returned, or supporting a missionary, this conversation is a reminder that you don't have to be chipper and strong all the time to show up in meaningful ways. Ever wondered what happens when women truly see themselves through fresh eyes? Liz Hansen, owner of Chicago Boudoir Photography, reveals the transformative magic that occurs in her studio every day."Is that me?" It's the question Liz hears most often when women first see their unedited photos during a boudoir session. That moment of recognition, seeing yourself as beautiful, powerful, and sensual exactly as you are has changed the lives of over 2,000 women who've stepped in front of Liz's camera since 2018.What began as Liz's own personal transformation through a boudoir session has evolved into a mission-driven business that goes far beyond photography. With an all-female staff and a commitment to creating a safe, affirming environment, she's built not just a successful studio but a thriving community of over 10,000 women who support each other in embracing confidence.Liz shares powerful insights about entrepreneurship that apply to any purpose-driven business: "Ready is not a state of being—it's a decision." Whether stepping in front of a camera or launching a new venture, waiting until you feel completely prepared might mean never taking that first step. Her approach of serving just one client per day ensures a "queen for the day" experience while maintaining a sustainable business model. For women hesitant about trying boudoir photography, Liz's message is simple: you don't need to change anything about yourself to be worthy of celebration through beautiful imagery. And for entrepreneurs struggling with the challenges of building something meaningful, she offers hard-earned wisdom: "Starting a business is the work of a lifetime. It's like having a newborn baby and trying to get it to grow up and be self-sufficient."Connect with Liz at chicagoboudoir.com to explore free resources on empowerment or to learn more about creating your own transformative boudoir experience.Hello from your host, Carol Clegg – your mindset and accountability coach for women coaches, entrepreneurs and small teams! This episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosted by Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton, takes a hard look at the role alcohol still plays (Amazon Affiliate) in first responder culture. For generations, the badge and the bottle have been intertwined—used to unwind, to bond, and, for some, to bury the weight of the job. We explore why alcohol remains an unspoken coping mechanism, how it impacts personal and professional lives, and what it takes to break free from cycles of silent self-medication. The Cultural Legacy of Alcohol in Service: Why drinking has long been normalized in first responder circles. The “work hard, play hard” mentality and how it perpetuates risky habits. The Fine Line Between Social and Self-Medication: How occasional drinks can shift into dependency without realizing it. The difference between relaxation and numbing out. Signs Alcohol Is Becoming a Problem: Red flags that often go unnoticed—or are brushed off—in responder culture. How high-functioning dependency hides in plain sight. The Impact on Relationships and Performance: Why substance reliance affects emotional regulation, decision-making, and intimacy. How alcohol-related issues can put careers and families at risk. The Role of Peer Influence and Stigma: How fear of judgment or isolation keeps people from seeking help. The unspoken pressure to join in to “fit in.” Strategies to Break the Cycle: Audit Your Habits: Track how often and why you're drinking to gain clarity on patterns. Replace Rituals, Not Just the Drink: Find healthier ways to decompress and bond that still meet the same needs. Seek Support Early: Connect with confidential peer support programs or counseling before it becomes a crisis. Shift the Culture Through Leadership: Leaders setting examples by promoting sober or low-alcohol events. Prioritize Emotional Tools Over Liquid Ones: Build coping skills that can handle stress without relying on alcohol. In this episode, we challenge the silence around alcohol in first responder life—and offer practical steps to protect your health, relationships, and career.

This week on the podcast, I'm diving into a topic that's been on my mind a lot lately—competition vs. cooperation. We live in a world (and even within mission culture) where competition often takes center stage—ranking, comparing, pushing to be “the best.” But what happens when we shift our focus to cooperation instead? What if the real strength and success come from uniting, including, and building each other up? In this episode, I share personal stories, observations from ward and youth activities, and even lessons from parenting that helped me see the contrast between these two approaches. We'll talk about the energy competition can create, but also the hierarchies and division it sometimes leaves behind. Then, we'll explore how cooperation fosters unity, abundance, and the kind of Christlike leadership we need more of on the mission and in life. Whether you're a preparing missionary learning to manage expectations, a currently serving missionary working in a district or zone, a returned missionary trying to let go of comparison, or a missionary mom/leader wondering how to encourage unity—this conversation will give you new perspectives and practical tools to notice where competition is creeping in, and how to intentionally lean into cooperation instead. Because when we choose cooperation, everyone wins. As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review.
