This psalm captures David's profound personal crisis as he flees from his son Absalom's rebellion, a betrayal that shatters both his political authority and familial trust. In the midst of overwhelming opposition, betrayal, and personal crisis, David's psalm reveals a transformative spiritual discipline: recognizing one's struggles before God, redirecting focus to God's character as shield, lifter of the head, and hearer of prayers, and resting in His sustaining grace. The sermon emphasizes that true peace does not come from the absence of problems but from the presence of God, who neither slumbers nor sleeps, and who ultimately vindicates His people through Christ's sacrificial death and resurrection. By adjusting the lens of our lives to center on God's faithfulness rather than our circumstances, believers are called to trust in His salvation, rely on His power, and proclaim that 'salvation belongs to the Lord'—not through human effort, but through the finished work of Jesus Christ, who was forsaken so that we might never be.

A prayer for protection and salvation from overwhelming enemies.

Imagine what it would be like to survive an apocalyptic flood where almost everyone you know is destroyed and you're stuck in a crowded, floating menagerie. Noah is rightly credited as brave and faithful to the Lord, but we'll soon see that the Bible doesn't allow us to think that the flood has solved the problem of sin. Even faithful Noah, who diligently constructed a massive vessel and survived destruction, was imperfect and flawed. After we wade through genealogies of Noah's sons, we encounter the tower of Babel, a monument to man's rebellion against God.
