We're getting 2025 off to a stellar start with one of the greats of the writing world! Author Jonathan Maberry is a NYT bestseller and 5-time Bram Stoker Award winner. He's the creator of the Pine Deep Trilogy, V-Wars, Rot and Ruin and of course, the Joe Ledger series among many others. In our first episode of the new year, Jonathan talks about “Burn to Shine,” the 14th book in the Joe Ledger series. In this book, a covert group is infiltrating the world's most secure bio-weapons research sites. All across the country, people are acting as human ‘disease bombs' by infecting themselves and walking into public places. And heavily-armed groups of illegal private soldiers are massing for some unknown strike. Old enemies are rising and joining forces to hit Joe and his team with one devastating blow after another. What is the end game for all of this madness and terror? Outnumbered, outmaneuvered, and outgunned, Joe Ledger has to find a way back from the fires of grief in order to make a stand between these enemies and millions of potential innocent lives. But Joe has allies, too. His team, the vicious fighters of Arklight, and friends who may or may not be entirely human. Sounds pretty cool, doesn't it? Jonathan, Curtis and Max talk all about the new book, the fights awaiting RTI and some callbacks to characters in past books. Jonathan also talks about Joe Ledger, what defines this character, and how his trauma over the years has shaped him. We learn what keeps in the fight and why after all these years, he has no plans to back down. We also talk about the big news that the Joe Ledger series has been optioned by Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick movies to be optioned for TV development. Jonathan talks about how he and Chad met and the process of working together. We dive into potential actors to play Joe and where we are at in the production process. “Rot and Ruin,” his young adult zombie series, is in advanced development by Alcon Entertainment and we go into how that has come along. After all these years, working in novels, comics, and much more, one would think that Jonathan Maberry has done it all, and we ask about his “Mount Everest” accomplishments and what else he wants to do in his career.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq begin the year in the red - their fifth-straight negative session. However, the dollar extends its rally into 2025 with the index hitting a two-year high. President Biden is expected to officially announce he is blocking the proposed $15bn takeover of U.S. Steel by Japan's Nippon Steel. Outnumbered by security forces, South Korean prosecutors abandon their attempt to execute an arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over last month's imposition of martial law. When the Nazi blitz came roaring into Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge, 22-year-old Lyle Bouck and his tiny unit of 18 men decided they weren't moving an inch. Outnumbered by a German force 500 times their size, Bouck and his squad held their ground at Lanzerath Ridge, turning the Nazi blitzkrieg into a slow crawl. House Republicans will enter the new Congressional term with a historically low majority, controlling only 220 seats. The party is hopeful that it will be able to pass bold new legislation that President-elect Trump proposed on the campaign trail such as tax cuts, immigration reform, and a cut to government waste. Overseas, the Syrian government has been overthrown as rebel forces took over the capitol city of Damascus, with President Bashar al Assad reportedly fleeing the nation. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) joins the Rundown to discuss why he is hopeful Republicans can achieve their policy priorities with a slim majority, what issues they will tackle first, and what he thinks of the developing situation in the Middle East. Over the weekend the United States marked 83 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor, an assault on the country that left over 3,000 Americans killed or wounded. While December is a time of giving, it is also a time of faith and reflection. In the episode "Outnumbered? - Ep 550" of Behind The Bunker Podcast, the hosts delved into the unique challenges and strategies that come into play when a team is outnumbered on the paintball field. They kicked off the episode by sharing their own experiences of being outnumbered in games, describing the sense of pressure and excitement that arises in these high-stakes situations. Throughout the episode, they discussed how being outnumbered forces players to adapt, get creative, and push their skills to the limit. One of the primary topics covered was the tactical adjustments needed when facing a larger opposing force. The hosts emphasized the importance of staying calm and not letting the numbers disadvantage affect morale. They shared strategies like using cover more effectively, repositioning constantly, and setting up ambushes to catch the larger team off guard. By moving smartly and making themselves less visible, players can mitigate some of the risks and improve their chances of survival and success, even when outnumbered.Communication was another key point of discussion. The hosts stressed that when a team is outnumbered, communication becomes even more critical for survival and coordination. They highlighted the need to constantly update each other on enemy positions, share tactical ideas, and coordinate movements to avoid getting flanked. Clear and concise communication allows outnumbered teams to operate more efficiently and make decisions faster, giving them a better chance to outmaneuver the opposing team. The hosts also explored the psychological aspect of being outnumbered, explaining how mindset can make a huge difference in these scenarios. They talked about the importance of confidence, resilience, and keeping a positive outlook, even when the odds are stacked against you. Many players tend to feel overwhelmed in these situations, but the hosts encouraged listeners to view it as an opportunity to improve their skills and prove their abilities. They shared anecdotes of times they managed to turn the tide of a game despite being heavily outnumbered, emphasizing that the right mindset can often lead to unexpected victories. In conclusion, "Outnumbered? - Ep 550" was an insightful episode that offered practical advice and motivational insights for paintball players who find themselves facing larger teams. The hosts broke down essential strategies, highlighted the importance of communication, and reinforced the value of mental toughness when dealing with challenging odds. By the end of the episode, listeners were left with a renewed sense of confidence and a toolkit of strategies to apply the next time they find themselves outnumbered on the paintball field.
Today is Veterans Day in the US and Armistice Day in the UK and to commemorate I've gone back into the archive to remember and share vivid testimony from Korean War veteran Tommy Clough who sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago. The Korean War was among the most destructive conflicts of the modern era, and one of the few times when the Cold War turned hot. There were approximately 3 million war fatalities and a larger proportional civilian death toll than World War II or the Vietnam War. Tommy Clough is one of the last surviving of the battle of the Imjin River and was just 19 when the Gloucestershire Regiment were cut off from their brigade by more than 10,000 Chinese troops in 1951. Outnumbered and surrounded, they dug in on a hilltop for three days, repelling attack after attack until their ammunition ran out. The battle of the Imjin River was one of the most famous of the Korean War We hear in detail Tommy's experiences in the days up to the battle, as well as the desperate fighting to hold off the Chinese army as food, water and ammunition ran out. Inevitably the Gloucestershire Regiment was forced to surrender and Tommy's story continues, with the hardship and privation of the 500 miles march to their prisoner of war camp. Following an escape attempt, Tommy is held and handcuffed for 6 weeks in solitary confinement including a lengthy period held in a small cage. It's an incredible story of fortitude and resilience under the most extreme circumstances and I am so humbled and honoured to be able to share this story with you. I'd like to thank The History of War magazine for putting me in contact with the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum and subsequently Tommy.
