This week, we explore the ripple effects of our words and thoughts through "Guard Well the Portals of the Mind," discussing Albert Pike's concept of everlasting vibrations and William James's theory of "idea-motor action" as a sobering reminder to actively banish pessimistic thoughts and invite in the Great Architect. Next, we challenge the notion of Freemasonry as a mere social club with George H. Steinmetz's "The Worthy and Well-Qualified," which argues that Masonic allegories are actually designed to conceal the secret doctrine from the multitude and that the Craft requires genuine intellectual pursuit as a "progressive science". Finally, we share an exciting announcement for the 3rd John Skene Memorial Conference happening August 28th to 30th, 2026, in Burlington, New Jersey; for just $100, Masons and non-Masons alike can enjoy a weekend of fellowship, scholarship, and entertainment honoring America's first Freemason—a highly recommended experience that RJ has personally presented at in the past. Joshua Cross | Born-again Christians are guarded by God's intrinsic power, an ongoing act of preservation rather than human perseverance, assuring them of their imperishable heavenly inheritance amid earthly persecution. This guarding happens through genuine saving faith in Christ — a gift from God and the conduit of His power — which must produce the fruit of the Spirit as evidence, steering clear of both self-reliant works and shallow easy-believism.

Last week, we began a new series called It Is Well With My Soul. Your soul is your mind, will, and emotions. Our Heavenly Father wants our souls to be healed, restored, rested, and guarded. Your spiritual health and mental health occupy the same space, so that means you cannot be spiritually healthy and mentally unhealthy at the same time. They are connected. Because of this fact, it’s time to be honest about how you are doing mentally and how you’re getting along with the people around you. Holding it all inside isn’t brave or courageous; it’s foolish and selfish. Being a Christian doesn’t mean you suck it up and deal with it. The enemies of our mental health are real and should not be taken lightly. Untreated mental health destroys marriages, ministries, careers, and lives, so you need to be honest about the things in your life that are becoming unmanageable. This week, we’re exploring Enemies of My Soul’s Health.

Drawing on Proverbs 3:5–6, Psalm 51:10, Luke 6:45, Romans 10:8–10, Hebrews 4:12, and Matthew 5:8, this sermon explores how trusting God, asking for inner renewal, and rooting our lives in God's Word transform our motives and actions. Expect biblical teaching and practical application: how to recognize unhealthy thoughts, repent and invite God's cleansing, cultivate honest speech and good fruit, own the confession of faith that shapes the heart, and allow God's living Word to judge and guide our innermost life. Whether you're searching for healing after hurt, clarity in decision-making, or a deeper devotion, you'll receive encouragement to pursue purity of heart, concrete steps to practice daily vigilance, and a compassionate call to rely on God's transforming power. What if the reason intimacy still feels blocked in your marriage… isn't because you don't want connection? What if it's because you're still protecting your heart? In this episode, we're having an honest conversation about something many women feel—but rarely say out loud. You want to feel close again. You want emotional connection, intimacy, and romance. You're trying. You're more aware. You're even showing up differently. But when it comes to real intimacy… something still feels off.And if you're honest…it's not just about your husbandIt's that you don't fully feel open. You might notice thoughts like:“He won't respond the way I need”“He doesn't go deep enough”“It's just easier to keep this to myself”So you stay a little guarded.A little filtered.A little protected.Let's gently challenge that…You say you want intimacy…but are you actually letting him in?Because this right here is one of the biggest hidden blocks to connection in midlife marriage.⸻In This Episode, You'll Learn:Why feeling guarded can quietly block emotional connection, intimacy, and desireHow past disappointment and unmet expectations shape how you show up in your marriageWhy protection may have served you before—but is now creating distanceThe truth about vulnerability and how it rebuilds intimacy and connectionSimple, practical ways to begin opening your heart and letting your husband in again⸻The Truth About Intimacy & Connection in Midlife MarriageHere's what most women don't realize:Intimacy is not created by effortIt's created by opennessNot by saying the perfect thingNot by your husband doing everything rightBut by you being emotionally availableBecause when you're guarded:you don't fully expressyou don't fully engageyou don't fully receiveAnd over time, connection begins to fadeNot because you don't love each otherbut because you're not fully letting each other inBut here's the shift:The same protection that once felt safe…is now keeping you disconnected⸻A Faith-Based Perspective on IntimacyGod never designed you to live guarded in your marriageHe designed marriage to be a place of:connectionsafetyand being fully knownBut that requires trustNot just in your husbandbut in God working through your marriageSometimes the step of faith isn't fixing anythingit's opening your heart again⸻Your Next Step (Make This Simple)This week, practice one small shiftChoose one moment to be more open than you normally wouldThat might look like:sharing something you usually keep to yourselfexpressing appreciation more freelysaying how you really feel instead of brushing it offNothing bigjust one real momentBecause this is how:connection growsintimacy rebuildsand your marriage begins to feel alive again⸻Ready to Go Deeper? If this episode spoke to you, come join me inside my private Facebook community:Empty Nest Wives: Rebuilding Intimacy & ConnectionThis is where we walk through:rebuilding emotional connectionrestoring intimacy and romancelearning to open up again in a safe, faith-centered wayand creating a marriage that feels connected and aliveOr send me a message. That time when your mentor becomes your worst nightmare… (with Sira Laurel)

Client Horror Stories

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 4, 2026 71:14

Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of workplace sexual harassment and burnout. Listener discretion is advised. Sira Laurel didn't enter the workforce with a safety net. She graduated in 2008—right as the financial crisis swallowed jobs whole and turned ambition into a survival test.  But Sira wasn't the type to wait for the storm to pass. She landed a role as a benefits advisor for postoperative equipment at a medical company, and from day one, she showed up differently. She learned fast, built trust faster, and quietly became indispensable. Her sales team noticed. Her leadership team noticed. In a company full of moving parts and competing agendas, Sira had earned something rare—genuine respect from the people at the top. That visibility came with a promotion to management, a seat at a bigger table, and the kind of momentum that makes you believe the climb is finally worth it. But momentum, when it's built on unstable ground, has a way of exhausting you before it ever breaks you. Not everyone celebrated her rise. Whispers started in the back office. Resentment built in corners she couldn't always see. Sira was managing upward, managing sideways, and managing the quiet hostility beneath the surface—all at once. The weight of proving herself never quite lifted. It just changed shape. And without her realizing it, the very drive that made her exceptional was also burning her from the inside out. Then one day, something shifted beyond just the exhaustion. It wasn't a memo or a meeting. It was a feeling—a sudden chill in the air that she couldn't explain. The mentor who had championed her, the executive she'd trusted, seemed different. Distant. Guarded. It wasn't long before the reason surfaced: his wife had discovered he was having an affair. The personal had crashed violently into the professional, and Sira was standing in the wreckage without having caused any of it. They tried to move forward. To compartmentalize. To keep things professional. And for a time, they did. But something had broken—and what grew in its place added an unbearable new layer to an already heavy load. Over time, the executive's behavior toward Sira shifted in ways that crossed every line that should never be crossed. What began as professional mentorship devolved into sexual harassment. The man who once advocated for her career began weaponizing his power against her instead. And Sira—already running on empty, already stretched thin by years of fighting to belong—was now forced to carry something no job description ever prepares you for. The burnout wasn't just professional anymore. It was total. Her story is not unique. That's exactly why it needs to be told. In today's episode, Sira Laurel—now CEO and Executive Advisor of North of Normal—opens up about the compounding weight of workplace burnout, the slow erosion that happens when you give everything to a career that doesn't always protect you in return, and the line that was finally crossed. She shares what happened, how she survived it, and what she wants every professional to know about recognizing your limits, protecting your peace, and fighting for the dignity you deserve in every workspace you walk into. This conversation is heavy. It is honest. And it is necessary. Because no amount of hustle, no promotion, no professional relationship should ever cost someone their health—or their safety.  Morgan FriedmanSira's WebsiteSira's LinkedInSira's InstagramSira's YouTube Channel

In this week's episode of the Personal Mastery Training Podcast, we're diving into the real cost of playing it safe. We often think we're protecting ourselves by avoiding risk, difficult conversations, or ambitious goals, but all we're really doing is numbing our capacity for joy and growth. If you're tired of just "getting through" your days and are ready to start intentionally crafting your experiences, this strategy session is for you.   Key Takeaways: Stop Surviving, Start Extracting: Shift your mindset from "getting through" challenges to "getting from" them. Every obstacle contains wisdom meant to fuel your growth. The Guarded Life Trap: Avoiding pain doesn't just block the negative—it dulls your ability to feel peak pleasure and deep fulfillment. Audit Your Guard: Identify where you are holding back out of fear. Stepping into that discomfort is the only way to stretch your reality. Be the Architect: Don't let life happen to you on autopilot. By being "fiercely present," you turn raw experiences into permanent memory assets. Apply, Don't Just Consume: Information without execution is just entertainment. Pick one idea from this episode and apply it to your life today.   Information is only as valuable as your willingness to use it. Don't let this be just another piece of background noise—take these strategies, apply them to your daily narrative, and start building the life you were meant to lead. Listen to the full episode now and let's get to work on your personal mastery.

This week on the podcast, Patrick and Tracy welcome Naomi Kritzer, author of Obstetrix. About Obstetrix: Doctor Liz has just been acquitted for performing the last abortion in North Dakota when she’s kidnapped. They’re not just any kidnappers, but a fundamentalist cult, deep in the rural west, without respect for law or decency, and in desperate need of an OB/GYN. Guarded, isolated, without access to the outside world, Liz nevertheless is treated with respect as the only doctor on the compound, but she is very aware of what happened to the last obstetrician they kidnapped. She must escape, and bring help to the girls trapped at the compound, if it’s the last thing she does. About Naomi Kritzer: NAOMI KRITZER has been re-reading favorite books since childhood, and probably still has passages from A Wrinkle in Time memorized. She writes for both adults and teens, including Catfishing on CatNet and Chaos on CatNet from Tor Teen and Liberty’s Daughter from Fairwood Press. Her writing has won the Hugo Award, the Nebula Award, the Edgar Award, the Locus Award, and the Minnesota Book Award. Naomi lives in St. Paul, Minnesota, with her family and three cats. The number of cats is subject to change without notice. This week's picks: Naomi #1: Schmigadoon! The Soviet Union used Lend-Lease to "plunder" American technology, including entire Ford factories and suitcases of blueprints guarded by NKVD agents. Harry Hopkins personally intervened to facilitate the shipment of specialized chemicals and enriched uranium to the USSR. Sean McMeekin notes that while some officials like Harry Dexter Whitewere identified as NKVD agents, Hopkins acted as a devoted "agent of influence," routinely overruling ambassadors like Averell Harriman when they attempted to exert leverage over these transfers. Hopkins ensured that the flow of vital resources remained unconditional, viewing Stalin's interests as his own and outmaneuvering anyone who raised concerns. (7/8)UNDATED BAKU

Most people were taught to survive pressure. Get through the week. Keep pushing. Stay busy. Protect what's yours. Hope things get better. But what if pressure is not just something to survive? What if pressure is revealing what is really happening in your heart? In this episode of Cashflow Legendz, Nate and Brandon talk about the idea of generous resilience: the ability to endure pressure, disappointment, and difficulty without becoming guarded, bitter, isolated, or contaminated by it. The conversation centers around one powerful question: When pressure hits, do you become generous or guarded? Nate and Brandon unpack how pressure exposes the difference between ownership and stewardship, fear and faith, scarcity and abundance, surviving and pouring into others. They also talk about the importance of accountability, the danger of chasing opportunities without prayer and wisdom, and why every person is leading something, whether it is a business, a household, a family, or their own personal ecosystem. In this episode, you'll hear about: Why pressure reveals what is really happening in the heart The difference between being resilient and being generously resilient How scarcity shows up through fear-based decisions, hesitation, and isolation Why stewardship is different from ownership How faith should shape financial and business decisions Why accountability and trusted relationships create faster growth How optimism can be realistic without becoming fake positivity Why leadership is not just about surviving the week How to decide who will be better because of you this week This episode is a reminder that pressure does not have to shrink you. It can stretch you. And when you respond with faith, generosity, stewardship, and resilience, the pressure you are facing can become part of the testimony God uses to encourage someone else. How do you respond when someone you love says they feel guarded around you?Carol's question about how to start a difficult conversation quickly reveals something deeper: a long history of sibling dynamics, childhood wounds, and the painful feeling of being the less-loved child.Together, we unpack what guardedness really is, why it forms, and how resentment, longing, and the need to feel loved can all live just beneath the surface. This conversation is an invitation to move beyond trying to change others—and instead begin the deeper work of understanding ourselves, softening our defenses, and creating the conditions where something new might emerge.Listen to learn:• Why guardedness in relationships is often mutual—even when it doesn't seem that way• How resentment can keep others “on the hook” and quietly block connection• Why healing relational wounds requires more than insight—it requires new relational experiencesRead more about softening on the blog.Use code SOHC to get 50% off your first month in the School of Human Connection. Have you ever had one embarrassing moment — one failed public speaking experience, one bad drawing, one time you couldn't keep up — and quietly decided that was just who you are? That's what this episode is about. After a conversation with psychologist Gail Rice about re-storying our lives, something clicked for Yvonne — and it came straight from her work as a photographer. When she shoots headshots in burst mode, she captures dozens of frames of the same person in seconds. One frame? Guarded. The next? Laughing. Same person, completely different story. And yet most of us are walking around defined by a single frame — one moment, usually from childhood, with very little context and even less life experience. In this solo episode, Yvonne explores what happens when we confuse one awkward moment for the whole truth about who we are — and what it looks like to start creating new frames instead. Because you are not the worst photo ever taken of you. You are the entire album. And the next frame hasn't even been taken yet.

“To live “guided by purpose, guarded by reason” is to walk with both conviction and clarity. Purpose gives your life direction; it fuels your passion, shapes your decisions, and keeps you moving forward even when the path is uncertain. But reason acts as your protection, helping you think wisely, discern truth from distraction, and avoid being led by impulse or emotion alone. When purpose and reason work together, not only do you become both driven and disciplined, but also you are able to chase your calling without losing your balance. It is in this harmony that you build a life that is not only meaningful, but also sustainable and wise” — SSRGO#PurposeDriven #LiveWithIntent #WisdomAndPurpose #StayFocused #MindsetMatters #GrowthJourney #SelfDiscipline #LifeGuidance #StayGrounded #LessonOfLifeSeriesLessonOfLifeSeries@Gmail.Com

In this episode, we dive into a conversation that's becoming more common but rarely discussed openly: why many men say they no longer feel safe to love. In Colossians 2, Paul confronts one of the most subtle dangers facing the church: the temptation to add something to Christ. Not blatant unbelief. Not outright denial. But supplementation. In this session of our Colossians: Rooted & Renewed study, we walk carefully through Colossians chapter 2 and uncover Paul's four urgent warnings: • Don't be deluded by persuasive speech • Don't be taken captive by hollow philosophy • Don't let anyone judge you by shadows • Don't be disqualified by false humility At the heart of Paul's argument is this unshakable truth: “For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him.” (Colossians 2:9–10) Christ is not one spiritual option among many. He is the fullness. And in Him, we are complete. In this message, we explore: What it means to be rooted and built up in Christ Why “Christ Jesus the Lord” is a strategically ordered title The connection between gratitude and spiritual stability The difference between maturity and religious “extras” Why self-made religion has no power against the flesh How Old Testament shadows point to Christ as the substance What it means that our record of debt was nailed to the cross How Christ triumphed over rulers and authorities Paul's concern was not that believers would abandon Jesus. It was that they would drift toward something that looked spiritual yet quietly relocated trust. That warning still matters today. We live in a world filled with persuasive voices, self-improvement systems, spiritual influencers, and religious performance. But fullness is not found in philosophy, discipline, experiences, or rules. If you have ever wondered: Am I missing something deeper? Do I need more than Christ to grow? Why do religious rules fail to transform the heart? How do I guard my faith in a culture of endless spiritual options?

Proprietary Medicine - Guarded Knowledge in Childbirth: Episode #199

In this episode of The True Birth Podcast, we examine the history of proprietary medicine in obstetrics and how guarded knowledge shaped the evolution of childbirth. Before obstetrics became a formal medical specialty, barber-surgeons practiced a blend of grooming and surgical care, operating in a space between trade and medicine. We discuss the Chamberlen family and their forceps, which were kept secret for generations and brought into birth rooms concealed in ornate boxes to protect their design. What did it mean for a potentially life-saving instrument to be privately controlled? And how did the protection of medical knowledge influence the shift of birth from midwives and community care into the hands of surgical practitioners? We also explore how obstetrics transitioned from guild-style secrecy to standardized and regulated medical practice. As forceps became more widely available, childbirth changed clinically and culturally. This conversation considers what was gained in terms of surgical safety and intervention, and what may have been altered in the process. By revisiting barber-surgeons and the history of the Chamberlen forceps, we reflect on how medicine is shaped by power, access, and innovation, and how those forces continue to influence birth today. “A common pattern we see is that the sex has dried up.”In millions of marriages around the globe, one partner is starving for intimacy, and the other feels confused, frightened, frozen, or all three. The sexually guarded partner doesn't know how to open, and their partner feels stuck, unhappy and alone. So what can they do?Here we explore exactly that, with a focus on a woman partner who may be terrified of engaging in sexual healing. We explore the origins and root causes of this pattern, as well as sexual intimacy, emotional intimacy, love, commitment, and connection. We talk about the phenomenon of: “I'm so flooded now that we have kids that it's really hard for me to have the bandwidth to connect physically with anyone.” And: “Our lack of physical intimacy started bleeding into a lack of emotional intimacy."We also talk about the prevalence of sexual trauma, whether from childhood or adulthood or both, as well as how to heal from it.Hint: One of the best ways to move through it is as a woman is not with a love relationship partner, but with other women.Sisterhood is powerful medicine.Mentioned on this episode:Violet's program for women: Love Integrated (https://loveandlegacy.circle.so/LoveIntegrated)Violet & Jason & Luke's program for women: Heart of Shadow for Women (https://heartofshadow.com/women/)DM 1: Pain in Pleasure, Pleasure in PainDM 348: ‘I wish we had sex more.' The South Carolina Supreme Court hears Alex Murdaugh's appeal February 11, 2026. The ground has shifted — because the woman who oversaw his jury just admitted to lying under oath about her conduct during the trial.Becky Hill, former Colleton County Clerk of Court, pleaded guilty in December 2025 to obstruction of justice, perjury, and two counts of misconduct. The perjury conviction stems from false testimony at a January 2024 hearing before retired Chief Justice Jean Toal. Toal was evaluating whether Hill tampered with Murdaugh's jury. She asked Hill directly if she let media view sealed exhibits. Hill said no. According to prosecutors, that was a lie.Murdaugh's defense successfully petitioned the Supreme Court to add Hill's conviction to the appellate record. The justices will now evaluate jury tampering claims knowing the court official at the center is a convicted perjurer. The state's response called Hill's conduct "foolish and fleeting" and insisted Murdaugh was "obviously guilty." That was filed before Hill's guilty plea. The state's position depends on trusting a woman who has proven she cannot be trusted.Defense attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin argue Hill's conduct is structural error — that jury tampering by a state actor is presumptively prejudicial under federal precedent. They also challenge the week of financial crimes testimony they say turned the murder trial into character assassination. The court can affirm, reverse for a new trial, or remand. The ruling comes later, in writing. But the person the state relied on to dismiss these concerns can no longer be believed.#MurdaughAppeal #BeckyHill #AlexMurdaugh #TrueCrime #JuryTampering #HiddenKillers #SupremeCourt #CriminalJustice #MurdaughTrial #SouthCarolinaJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
