And though he died, yet [through the incident] he is still speaking. 5 Because of faith Enoch was caught up and transferred to heaven, so that he did not have a glimpse of death; and he was not found, because God had translated him. For that reason God is not ashamed to be called their God [even to be surnamed their God—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob], for He has prepared a city for them. 17 By faith Abraham, when he was put to the test [while the testing of his faith was [d]still in progress], [e]had already brought Isaac for an offering; he who had gladly received and welcomed [God's] promises was ready to sacrifice his only son, 18 Of whom it was said, Through Isaac shall your descendants be reckoned. 19 For he reasoned that God was able to raise [him] up even from among the dead. Indeed in the sense that Isaac was figuratively dead [potentially sacrificed], he did [actually] receive him back from the dead. 20 [With eyes of] faith Isaac, looking far into the future, invoked blessings upon Jacob and Esau. 21 [Prompted] by faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph's sons and bowed in prayer over the top of his staff. 22 [Actuated] by faith Joseph, when nearing the end of his life, referred to [the promise of God for] the departure of the Israelites out of Egypt and gave instructions concerning the burial of his own bones. 23 [Prompted] by faith Moses, after his birth, was kept concealed for three months by his parents, because they saw how comely the child was; and they were not overawed and terrified by the king's decree. 24 [Aroused] by faith Moses, when he had grown to maturity and [f]become great, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 Because he preferred to share the oppression [suffer the hardships] and bear the shame of the people of God rather than to have the fleeting enjoyment of a sinful life. 26 He considered the contempt and abuse and shame [borne for] the Christ (the Messiah Who was to come) to be greater wealth than all the treasures of Egypt, for he looked forward and away to the reward (recompense). 27 [Motivated] by faith he left Egypt behind him, being unawed and undismayed by the wrath of the king; for he never flinched but held staunchly to his purpose and endured steadfastly as one who gazed on Him Who is invisible. 28 By faith (simple trust and confidence in God) he instituted and carried out the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood [on the doorposts], so that the destroyer of the firstborn (the angel) might not touch those [of the children of Israel]. 29 [Urged on] by faith the people crossed the Red Sea as [though] on dry land, but when the Egyptians tried to do the same thing they were swallowed up [by the sea]. 30 Because of faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encompassed for seven days [by the Israelites]. 31 [Prompted] by faith Rahab the prostitute was not destroyed along with those who refused to believe and obey, because she had received the spies in peace [without enmity]. 32 And what shall I say further? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 Who by [the help of] faith subdued kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promised blessings, closed the mouths of lions, 34 Extinguished the power of raging fire, escaped the devourings of the sword, out of frailty and weakness won strength and became stalwart, even mighty and resistless in battle, routing alien hosts. 35 [Some] women received again their dead by a resurrection. Others were tortured [g]to death with clubs, refusing to accept release [offered on the terms of denying their faith], so that they might be resurrected to a better life. 36 Others had to suffer the trial of mocking and scourging and even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned to death; they were lured with tempting offers [to renounce their faith]; they were sawn asunder; they were slaughtered by the sword; [while they were alive] they had to go about wrapped in the skins of sheep and goats, utterly destitute, oppressed, cruelly treated— 38 [Men] of whom the world was not worthy—roaming over the desolate places and the mountains, and [living] in caves and caverns and holes of the earth. 39 And all of these, though they won divine approval by [means of] their faith, did not receive the fulfillment of what was promised, 40 Because God had us in mind and had something better and greater in view for us, so that they [these heroes and heroines of faith] should not come to perfection apart from us [before we could join them].

This is the difference between mere Christians and disciples.15) You will never know the fullness of the joy of serving God to the utmost until you have forsaken all to follow Jesus Christ.16) If God is worth serving at all, He's worth serving fulltime and all the way!17) If the Devil can't keep you from being a Christian, he'll try to keep you from being a revolutionary Christian!18) Time and time again, Jesus' acid test for His prospective disciples was if they were willing to forsake all, drop everything, leave it all behind and follow Him!19) This is always the greatest witness to others: When you really give up everything and forsake all to follow Jesus and devote your full time in service to Him!20) Jesus bought and paid for us, we're His property, we belong to Him now! You don't just belong to yourself anymore, and you can't just do as you please!21) You either work for God, or you're going to have to work for the Devil!--The choice is yours!22) If you want to follow Jesus one hundred percent, you've got to forsake all and preach the Gospel!23) If you choose God's way, when you see Jesus and the results, you're going to know it was worth it all! Giving your life to His service is an eternal investment that will pay dividends in Heaven and souls for ever and ever and ever!24) "Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation" that might lead you astray from the straight and narrow way which leads to the highest crown and greatest reward! (Mt.26:41; 7:13,14; Ph.3:13,14).25) "Only one life, 'twill soon be past! Only what's done for Christ will last!" What are you doing?--For whom?--Will it last forever for Jesus and others?26) "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose!" It's better to die for something than to live--and die--for nothing! Start living TODAY!--There's only ONE WAY!--For JESUS!

Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands. 2 He who walks in uprightness reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, but he who is contrary and devious in his ways despises Him. 3 In the [a]fool's own mouth is a rod [to shame] his pride, but the wise men's lips preserve them. 4 Where no oxen are, the grain crib is empty, but much increase [of crops] comes by the strength of the ox. 5 A faithful witness will not lie, but a false witness breathes out falsehoods. 6 A scoffer seeks Wisdom in vain [for his very attitude blinds and deafens him to it], but knowledge is easy to him who [being teachable] understands. 7 Go from the presence of a foolish and self-confident man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips. 8 The Wisdom [godly Wisdom, which is comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] of the prudent is to understand his way, but the folly of [self-confident] fools is to deceive. 9 Fools make a mock of sin and sin mocks the fools [who are its victims; a sin offering made by them only mocks them, bringing them disappointment and disfavor], but among the upright there is the favor of God. 10 The heart knows its own bitterness, and no stranger shares its joy. 11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown, but the tent of the upright shall flourish. 12 There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death. 13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful, and the end of mirth is heaviness and grief. 14 The backslider in heart [from God and from fearing God] shall be filled with [the fruit of] his own ways, and a good man shall be satisfied with [the fruit of] his ways [with the holy thoughts and actions which his heart prompts and in which he delights]. 15 The simpleton believes every word he hears, but the prudent man looks and considers well where he is going. 16 A wise man suspects danger and cautiously avoids evil, but the fool bears himself insolently and is [presumptuously] confident. 17 He who foams up quickly and flies into a passion deals foolishly, and a man of wicked plots and plans is hated. 18 The simple acquire folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. 19 The evil men bow before the good, and the wicked [stand suppliantly] at the gates of the [uncompromisingly] righteous. 20 The poor is hated even by his own neighbor, but the rich has many friends. 21 He who despises his neighbor sins [against God, his fellowman, and himself], but happy (blessed and fortunate) is he who is kind and merciful to the poor. 22 Do they not err who devise evil and wander from the way of life? Footnotes Proverbs 14:3 The word “fool” in the Old Testament seldom, if ever, is used to describe the feebleminded, imbecile, idiot, or moron. Rather, it always has within it the meaning of a rebel, especially against God and the laws of order, decency, and justice. Notice in Proverbs how many such characteristics of rebelliousness are listed against the fool, and see God's attitude toward them.
