You have a target buck or an elk standing at 25 yards away standing perfectly broadside. Your arrow is drown back , your heart beat is cruising, you can feel your adrenaline taking over, till finally that moment comes where you let the arrow fly. For a brief moment you see the animal run off, an after a while you go look for your arrow, to get a sinking filling once you have found it, you missed him. Why do you miss? As hunters we strive ourselves to continue to check our equipment, to practice, and to make sure that we give ourselves the best to make a clean and ethical kill. However, things can still go wrong and we can still miss. On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast, we are going to break down the main reasons that hunters miss and ways to give you the best chances to overcome theses reasons. From discussing your shooting ability, to helping you control buck fever, to breaking down your shoot decisions, we give our opinion on how each of these three elements can factor into a missed shot. Over the years, especially here in Iowa, the turkey population has seen some major fluctuations. Part of that has to do with the amount of habitat that is being removed, but another major issue is predators, mainly raccoons. The increased population in raccoons means that more turkey nests are getting raided and the amount of turkey poults massively decrease. Along with the increase in raccoon numbers, we have seen a major increase in the number of bobcats. With the prices of furs being down across the country, the trapping season is become tougher for hunter who want to help manage their properties. So the question is, is there anyway to be able to see a major impact in the trapping industry? On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast we discuss how predator control has been affecting not only our turkey population, but populations of large game across the country over the years.Discount Codes:You guys have been absolutely amazing when it comes to supporting Raised Hunting so we wanted to return the favor! Everyone knows the classic cliche of if you get granted three wishes by a genie, then you would wish for unlimited wish. The real question is, what would you do if you had a hunting genie that granted you a wish to go back and change one hunt in your life? IF you have hunted long enough, chances are you have had a hunt that has bee screwed up on a buck of a lifetime or an elk that took you years to draw a tag for. Maybe you made a shot that wasn't fatal, you passed your target buck who was later killed by the neighbor, or maybe you busted him trying to draw your bow. If you had one wish to go back to change a hunt, would you use that wish to bring you success? One this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast, Warren dresses up as the "Hunting Genie", to hypothetically grant a wish to give one massive hunt a totally different outcome! We want to hear from you guys, if you had a hunt that you could ask the hunting genie to change, what would it be, or would you haven change it at all?Discount Codes:You guys have been absolutely amazing when it comes to supporting Raised Hunting so we wanted to return the favor! It is that time of year once again where bucks are shedding their antlers, and boots are hitting the ground to get out and search for those antlers. For a majority of hunters, shed season is an awesome time of the year, you get to hopefully find the antlers from your target buck, you may find sheds to a new buck, or you find new areas on a farm to hunt. If you are an avid shed hunter, then you have probably heard the phrase "miles equal piles". The real question is how much validity does that phrase have? Is it all about putting in miles for a ton of antlers, or are there other legit strategies? As whitetail deer hunters, we always dream of shooting the buck of a lifetime. That buck could be your dream buck that is a perfectly symmetrical typical, a buck with a drop tine, or even just a buck with points going everywhere. The buck of a lifetime could also just be one that you have history with over the years. You have watched this buck grow, you may have had some encounters with him, you have found his sheds, and his legend just keeps growing. For our buddy Simon Oakes out of Arkansas, this is that buck of a lifetime. In the hunting world, when you hear the word EHD, it puts a sick feeling in your stomach. EHD or Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease, is a disease that affects whitetail deer that leads to a very excruciating death. EHD can have a massive effect on the populations of your whitetail deer herd with in the summer months leading up to the early fall. As hunters, we always fear hearing about EHD outbreaks in the areas we hunt because of how lethal the disease can be. This past hunting season, we had actually found one of the bucks we were hunting that had shown signs of being infected with the disease. We had called in the Iowa DNR to examine the buck, and sent in samples of the deer to confirm that he was suffering from EHD. After sending in the samples, like other hunters, we had some questions about the disease and how it affects a whitetail deer. On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast we sit down with Andy Keller, a Wildlife Biologist and Depredation Specialist with the Iowa DNR and Rachel Ruden, a State Wildlife Veterinarian, to not only answer questions about EHD but whitetail deer biology as a whole. Well folks, we can put an officially put a wrap on the 2024 Iowa whitetail season. While some states, especially down south are still rolling with their whitetail seasons, we have begun to get into a winter scouting mode. We are putting out bales of alfalfa, moving a few cameras to check to see if some of our bucks have made it through the late season, and getting ready to walk for sheds. Shed hunting can be a major benefit for exploring pieces of your farms to look for new areas that could be huntable for the next season. The real question is, how beneficial is winter scouting in some areas? On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast, we give our on opinions on if winter scouting for whitetails is truly worth it. We also discuss how to hunt your target bucks after the rut and what tactics you can use to pin them down for next season. As the 2024 whitetail season is drawing to a close here in Iowa and in other states, the preparation for next year begins. With that preparation comes shed season and the hope that your young bucks that have potential make it through the winter. Like many hunters out there, you may be putting out some alfalfa bales or mineral blocks to help your deer get some extra nutrients during the winter. The other purpose behind putting out food an mineral is to see if you can help those bucks grow their antlers in the upcoming season. The real question is, how much can we as hunter really effect the antler growth in a deer? On this episode of the Raised Hunting podcast we look to see how much of an effect hunters can actually have a bucks antler growth in the next season. We discuss the best times to be putting out mineral blocks, whether or not food plots can play a major roll in antler growth, and how feasible it can be for the average hunter. We also. have a massive season update for you guys from the one and only "Dr. Deercember", and we discuss the impact that social media has had on hunting! We have had our fare share of misses throughout our hunting careers, and today we bring those misses to light. On todays episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast, our cameraman Eli joins us as we breakdown our most "memorable" misses. We also take a quick dive into a topic from one of our podcast listeners asking us how you would go about hunting multiple species on your prime deer hunting ground. If you are a hunter, then you have probably heard about all the stereotypes we all get stuck with. Whether you hunt public or private ground, you are the rich hunter or the just average blue collar hunter, there is a stereotype that targets every type of hunter. Odds are that is you have been hunting for a while, you may know some people that fall into the categories of stereotypes. On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast, we break down a few of these in a humorous and controversial way to see whether or not we agree with some of theses stereotypes. We also dive into a question from one of our podcast listeners. The question up for discussion is, how many hunters out there are paying massive amounts of money to shoot massive deer? The topic of this question comes from hunters that will come from out of state and pay farmers for a leases just to shoot one specific buck. The early split of the 2024 Iowa deer season for bow hunting came to an end last Friday. It is safe to say that this season left a major impact on the Raised Hunting crew. There were a lot of challenges to face during the 2024 deer season, Warren kept a tag in his pocket till December, Easton's target buck Gump just keep running and avoiding us a all cost, and the uncharacteristic weather began on day one of the season in October and continued through the final day. Even through all the warm November days, countless trail camera pictures, and some days of getting skunked in the tree stand, this deer season was a major learning experience. On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast, we dive into our biggest lessons for the 2024 Iowa deer season. We investigate some of the results from our new strategies we tried on our farms and how we can adapt them for the next season. From potentially adding more water troughs into crucial areas, to moving stands into more beneficial locations, the gears in the minds of the RH Crew are always spinning. We still have some late season opportunities here in Iowa and who knows, we still might have some new hunter adventures to close out the year! The Raised Hunting crew has officially gone on their first hunt! The gang set out to Wyoming to fill five antelope tags to open up the hunting season. As you guys all know, we pride ourselves on making the most ethical decisions and shots when we step into the woods, every hunter should strive to do so. On todays episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast we sit down to discuss our antelope hunts and how ethics are truly important in the hunting world.

As hunters, we've all asked ourselves this question at some point: am I hunting too hard? Conversely, we may wonder, am I not hunting hard enough? Whether it's chasing a target buck, embarking on an out-of-state hunting trip, or simply searching for a massive shed, there's a fine balance between pushing oneself and avoiding burnout. This topic was sparked by a discussion between David and Warren while they sat in on the Eastmans' boys' podcast at the Western Hunting Expo. We share personal scenarios to evaluate whether we've been hunting too hard at certain times or if we haven't been pushing ourselves enough. GIVEAWAY ALERT! April has come and gone. For a lot of states, we are in the last ditch effort to try and get one more turkey tagged filled. Toms are going quiet, hens are going to nest, and the hunting is getting much harder. So what can be some of the best ways to get on these pesky late season gobblers? Well we wanted to help with that! We employed two more late season strategies over the weekend, that proved to be pretty lethal in downing two more birds for the Raised Hunting crew. For some birds and areas, it may just be as simple as carrying multiple calls. For others, it may be scouting as much as you can for those birds that haven't been touched or are still fired up. We cover as much as we can to bring you guys success in your last days of your turkey seasons!

How do you teach a child about gun safety? About hunting? And how young is too young? In today's episode, you'll find out. Hosts Kelly and JJ are joined by David and Karin Holder of Raised Hunting, Raised At Full Draw, and Raised Outdoors. Together, they run Raised Hunting, a television show all about how American families can use hunting as a platform to teach ethics and values to their family. They also are devoted to teaching adults and children about archery, hunting, and outdoor education in a way that is safe and sustainable. With Kelly and JJ, the Holders discuss how adults can safely introduce children to storing, handling, and hunting with firearms -- and the quiet but tremendous role that hunters and hunting traditions can play both in reducing gun violence and bolstering the ethical foundations of people young and old. Jeremy Moore, the DogBone Hunter, joins us today to talk about shed hunting, tracking wounded deer, training dogs, and most importantly how to improve the health of our favorite canines. Plus he shares a lot of insights and ways we can improve our own health and fitness with the help of a good dog! Jeremy has been training dogs for over 15 years using a low-pressure positive approach to maximize a dog's natural potential and instincts. Through hard-learned lessons, he found a lack of tools to help train dogs to hunt sheds. And as he worked with his own dogs he developed tools that brought about the line of products that now form his business, DogBone Hunter. He is a contributor to North American Whitetail Television, a co-host, and hunter on NAW TV, Headhunters TV, Midwest Whitetails, Raised Hunting, Outdoor Wisconsin, as well as a co-host and hunter on We Love it Outdoors. SUBSCRIBE: iTunes / RSS/Stitcher/Podbean/Android On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we visit with David and Karin Holder of Raised Hunting. Raised Hunting is about an average american family that has used hunting as a platform to teach ethics and values to their family. I’ve been a big fan of David Holder ever since I first saw him on an early Primos hunting video. David and his family have accomplished a lot since then. Their hunting show captures the raw emotion that comes from an animal at close range, all while focusing on bringing you ultimate adventures with the highest regard to cinematography. But the best thing about Raised Hunting, in my opinion, are the meaningful values and ideals that they share on their show. If you already know the holders, I hope this episode of the Gritty Bowmen makes you like them even more. And for those of you who have never met the Holders, I hope you take the time to look them up, watch their show and consider how you might use hunting to strengthen the relationships within your family and your community.
