We have our good friends from the Iowa DNR back with us to discuss CWD or chronic wasting disease. Send us a textWhat animals can you hunt during the hot summer months when many seasons are closed? Ken Marr and friends tackle this question through a lively summer trivia competition that reveals fascinating facts about year-round hunting opportunities.Discover which state has the largest alligator population (hint: it's not Florida!), and learn about hook-and-line methods for catching these prehistoric predators. The team dives into wild hog populations across America, with Texas leading the pack at a staggering 3 million feral pigs. You might be surprised to learn that those "gophers" plaguing farmland are actually Richardson ground squirrels! The conversation reveals little-known facts about coyote distribution across North America, exotic hunting opportunities like Argentina's legendary dove fields, and explores why the Giant Forest Hog—not the Russian boar—is the world's largest wild pig species. From the serious (wildlife management challenges) to the humorous (learning that a group of ravens is called a "conspiracy"), this episode provides both entertainment and education for hunters looking to extend their season.Whether you're interested in predator control, pest management, or simply expanding your hunting knowledge beyond traditional big game seasons, this trivia-packed episode delivers insights that will change how you think about summer hunting opportunities. The competitive spirit between "Team Spectacles" and "Team Testicles" adds plenty of laughs along the way as they fight for podcast koozies and bragging rights.Check us out on Facebook and instagram Hunts On Outfitting, and also our YouTube page Hunts On Outfitting Podcast. Send us a textFrom spray painting addresses on sidewalks to building Canada's premier hunting and fishing network, Ryan Kohler's journey reflects the perfect blend of entrepreneurial spirit and outdoor passion. The surprising twist? He didn't grow up in a hunting family. When Ryan's father pursued television channel licenses, Ryan advocated for a hunting network despite having no family background in the outdoors. This leap of faith transformed into Wild TV, now celebrating nearly two decades of connecting outdoor enthusiasts across Canada and beyond. Learning to hunt from friends whose father was an African professional hunter, Ryan developed a deep appreciation for the challenges of pursuing whitetails and elk in Alberta's diverse landscapes. What makes Ryan's perspective unique is how he views hunting as more than just pursuit – it's about disconnecting from our technology-saturated lives. "Your whole body changes when you're in the wilderness," he explains, describing how extended trips into the backcountry heighten senses and reconnect us with our primal nature. This philosophy extends to his outfitting business, RK Hunts, which he started simply to spend more time guiding others and sharing those transformative wilderness experiences. The evolution of Wild TV mirrors the broader transformation in media consumption. Ryan has adapted by developing comprehensive digital platforms while maintaining the network's authentic character. He takes particular pride in how female participation in hunting has grown from roughly 5% when Wild TV began to approximately 30% today – a change the network actively supported by showcasing women hunters. His advice after years of full-throttle business building? Patience. "I missed opportunities because I was tunnel-visioned straight ahead," he reflects, noting that both in business and hunting, success comes to those who can wait for the right moment and make the most of it when it arrives.Whether you're an experienced hunter or simply curious about disconnecting in nature, download the Wild TV Plus app to access twenty years of outdoor content organized by species, region, and hunting style.Check us out on Facebook and instagram Hunts On Outfitting, and also our YouTube page Hunts On Outfitting Podcast. In the midst of one of the greatest threats our North American public lands have ever faced, we are seeing hunters and outdoors men and women alike coming together and taking a stand against Utah Senator Mike Lee's greedy attempt to sell off what does not belong to him. In a special episode release, we are joined by John Stallone from HOWL for Wildlife and Jesse Johnson; an avid public land owner to discuss this very issue. Senator Lee's efforts are far from any honest effort to create affordable housing or assist with national economic relief. Instead it is a vicious attempt to rob the American people of what is rightfully theirs under the cloak of conservatism, with underlying motives that are only self-serving. We dive deep into the nuts and bolts of this public land crisis in this episode, and several other issues. If there is ever a time for hunters to be political and to stand for what they believe in, it is now. Call your Senators - (202) 224-3121 and tell them to stop the sale of our Public Lands.Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Bear River Archery (https://www.bearriverarchery.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)
When it comes to bow hunting there are to major debates that have taken over. One debate is heavy arrows vs light arrows. The argument is, heavier arrows will give you more penetration on an animal. However with a heavier arrow, you can see a massive effect in your shot accuracy at longer distances. The other major debate is over which broadhead is better, a fixed blade or a mechanical. For the final episode of our archery series, we are going to dive into both debates. We put our year of experience on the table to give you a reiteration on the specifications you should be looking for in arrows, why a heavier arrow might not be the way to go, and the pros and cons of both styles of broadheads. We also give you guys a look at the arrows and broadheads we are shooting!Discount Codes:You guys have been absolutely amazing when it comes to supporting Raised Hunting so we wanted to return the favor! Sam is joined this week by two of our own Colorado Resident Hunters; Tim Berges and John Kesler to talk about some of the current hunting and conservation issues Colorado is facing right now. The guys also discuss a new measure; "Initiative 98" coming to light in Colorado, that if gained traction could have a bigger impact on hunting in Colorado than Proposition 127 EVER would have. Hunting and the Outdoors have been known to have a therapeutic impact on those who truly value and appreciate its power and significance. But for some the events of life can continually encroach on natural God-given outlets, and some need assistance to help refocus and overcome challenges. This week's podcast guest is Zack Butterfield; a therapist with a unique approach to mental health and helping his patients. As the author of the book "Hunting for Happiness", Zack is a hunter and outdoorsman himself and uses the therapeutic effects and influences of hunting and the outdoors to help those specifically from more rural areas who may not relate as much to a therapist who has known nothing but steel and concrete. Zack shares with us his journey which has lead to his unique approach of helping others. As a resident "western hunter", we are sure to talk some hunting with Zack, including his story of his very first Black Bear hunt from this year. This a great conversation bringing perspective to a unique and important need within humanity. When it comes to sighting in your bow, step one is getting the right set up to be able to shoot. Once you buy your bow, the next step is getting the right attachments for your bow. Then you have your new hunters who are still looking to get their bows set up top start shooting. On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast we are diving into part three of our archery series, and talking about the first step in sighting in your bows. It takes a lot of dedication, hard work and patience to make it in a saturated hunting industry filled with online content creators. There are different avenues many follow during their own growth, and some are better than others. This week our host Sam dives into the mindset of a Brand Ambassador in the outdoor industry. The key takeaways from this episode include setting you and/or your brand apart, developing and cultivating quality relationships, building trust and authenticity, and certainly what NOT to do along the way. Sam views the Brand Ambassador from the perspective of both the creator and the organization and highlights the importance to representing both your affiliates and hunting in general with respect. If you have the words "Brand Ambassador", "Field Staff" or "Pro Staff" next to your name, or if you are thinking about representing an organization in such a capacity, then this is a must listen. Over the years, especially here in Iowa, the turkey population has seen some major fluctuations. Part of that has to do with the amount of habitat that is being removed, but another major issue is predators, mainly raccoons. The increased population in raccoons means that more turkey nests are getting raided and the amount of turkey poults massively decrease. Along with the increase in raccoon numbers, we have seen a major increase in the number of bobcats. With the prices of furs being down across the country, the trapping season is become tougher for hunter who want to help manage their properties. So the question is, is there anyway to be able to see a major impact in the trapping industry? On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast we discuss how predator control has been affecting not only our turkey population, but populations of large game across the country over the years.Discount Codes:You guys have been absolutely amazing when it comes to supporting Raised Hunting so we wanted to return the favor! In this episode Jon Collins and John Bair discuss hunting etiquette for coyote hunters.
Everyone knows the classic cliche of if you get granted three wishes by a genie, then you would wish for unlimited wish. The real question is, what would you do if you had a hunting genie that granted you a wish to go back and change one hunt in your life? IF you have hunted long enough, chances are you have had a hunt that has bee screwed up on a buck of a lifetime or an elk that took you years to draw a tag for. Maybe you made a shot that wasn't fatal, you passed your target buck who was later killed by the neighbor, or maybe you busted him trying to draw your bow. If you had one wish to go back to change a hunt, would you use that wish to bring you success? One this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast, Warren dresses up as the "Hunting Genie", to hypothetically grant a wish to give one massive hunt a totally different outcome! We want to hear from you guys, if you had a hunt that you could ask the hunting genie to change, what would it be, or would you haven change it at all?Discount Codes:You guys have been absolutely amazing when it comes to supporting Raised Hunting so we wanted to return the favor! This week's podcast is as good as they come! Sam is joined by two of our own, Andy Meeks and Todd Sellon as they recap their recent Snow Goose hunt in North Dakota. These guys have a passion for waterfowl, and love sharing their stories and experiences from the field. Todd and Andy talk about their setups, migration, and some of their less-proud moments which always make for a good laugh. This is a tight group of guys who also spend some time just catching up in general, and discuss other things like elk hunting, stolen pickup trucks, and some comedic moments and stories that you cannot make up! One thing is for sure, when these 3 get together it is always a good time, and you will feel like you are sitting in camp right next to them!Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Bear River Archery (https://www.bearriverarchery.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)

The term "wildlife conservation" encompasses so many different species of animals. Mountain Goats are included in that, and may be considered a coveted or once-in-a-lifetime hunting experience for some folks. But what you may not realize is Mountain Goats do not always get the focus they deserve when it comes to normal conservation efforts and funding. That's where the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance does their work. Kendrick Chittock from RMGA joins us this week to talk about today's overlooked, under-funded and under-valued areas of Mountain Goat conservation, and how their organization bridges a huge gap in research and funding for Mountain Goat conservation across North America. Kendrick gives us an education on Mountain Goat habitats, potential natural and human threats to populations, and how folks can get involved in helping their organization and local game commissions with Mountain Goats. And no, we're not just talking about your wallet, but also boots on the ground. This is very educational episode discussing a species of animal we are all aware exists, but maybe not as savvy as to the help they actually need. Every hunt has a story, a memory and special moments that are forever in our minds. Taxidermy often helps us memorialize the animal and pay respect to our kill, while photos can also help us cherish and remember those significant moments in the woods. This week our guest is Dylan Carlson from Trophy Edits. Dylan and his team work very hard to help hunters, outdoors men and women, outfitters and others enhance and forever commemorate their experiences in the outdoors. Dylan shares with us why it can be so important to have professionals edit your photos and make them "wall-worthy", and it is honestly extraordinary how good these guys are at their jobs! Dylan talks about what makes a photo absolutely explode off the canvas, current and modern technology advancements and some of the best gear hunters and outdoors men and women can use to set their photos up for success, and more! We can't let Dylan go without talking some hunting too, which leads to one of the craziest elk hunting stories we've had on the podcast!Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Bear River Archery (https://www.bearriverarchery.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)
Like all good things in life, they change with time. Television shows adapt to audiences season after season. Music with in its simple history can now have a chart topping song be created with an app on a phone. Even simple things like the newspaper has evolved over the years. Most people just want to go back to the "Good Old Days". Hunting is no different. All new technology has changed the the average person hunts. Whether you are using mapping apps like OnX, a cellular camera to get information on your deer, or even constantly scrolling through social media seeing the countless number of big bucks hitting the ground, the world of hunting has changed. Does that really mean the Good Old Days of hunting are gone? On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast, we look to answer that question. We take a look back how hunting has changed even in the time since Warren and Easton to all the way back to when David began hunting. The real question is, if they are truly gone, can we get back to the Good Old Days of hunting?Discount Codes:You guys have been absolutely amazing when it comes to supporting Raised Hunting so we wanted to return the favor!
