Today we’re joined by someone who has spent more than three decades living, working, and serving in the outdoor industry—by many he is considered Royalty in the outdoor space, and indeed his family thought so as well when they named him Royal. Royal Peterson got his start in the outdoors at just 14 years old, competing at the BASS Federation level. From there, his passion for fishing and hunting grew into a career that has spanned more than 30 years. For the past 14 years, Royal has served as Director of Operations at Missouri Hunting and Fishing Adventures, one of the largest outfitting operations in the Midwest. His influence goes far beyond the field and the water. Royal has taught casting and angling at the university level, coached high school bass fishing, and played an instrumental role in bringing high school fishing to Missouri, as well as helping with angler education through the Missouri Department of Conservation. Over the years, Royal has appeared on ESPN2 Outdoors TV, ESPN Radio, the Pursuit Channel, Sportsman Channel, and numerous other networks. He has also guided and appeared on nationally syndicated programs including Babe Winkelman Outdoor Secrets, Small Town Hunting, Mossy Oak TV, Just Killin Time TV, Open Season Outdoors, and Schooled by Denny Brauer, just to name a few. But as impressive as his career in the outdoors has been, that's not what matters most to Royal. He is a Christian who is passionate about using the outdoors as a platform to share his faith and point others to Christ. Today’s guest is Jamey Blakeley, a businessman, outdoorsman, volunteer firefighter, and someone who has a powerful story of faith, perseverance, and God’s faithfulness. Jamey lives in Jane, Missouri, and got his start in business back in 2018 when he opened a small outdoor store. After about 14 months, he closed the store and took a different direction, eventually building the businesses he operates today—Blakeley’s Trapping, The Trappers Pole, and Blakeley’s Baits & Lures. But Jamey’s story goes far beyond business and the outdoors. He’s also a volunteer firefighter and the founder of 4 State Chaplains, a nonprofit ministry providing chaplain support to first responders. Jamey has pursued training through Christian Leaders Institute, where he’s working toward his Diploma in Divinity and has also completed chaplain courses that he puts into practice through his ministry. Jamey gave his life to Christ when he was about eight years old, but he’ll be the first to tell you that it wasn’t until early 2025 that he really began living his life fully for God. Earlier this year, his church recognized that growth and commitment by voting him in as a deacon. And the road to get here certainly hasn't been easy. At just 32 years old, Jamey has faced some serious challenges. In 2021, he experienced a severe medical event that nearly resulted in a heart attack and ultimately led to him receiving a defibrillator. Then, in 2023, he battled an infection that took nearly two years to overcome. Four surgeries and eight months with a wound pump left him unable to do much of anything for more than 16 months. But what could have broken him became part of the testimony God is using today. Jamey’s story is one of perseverance, redemption, faith, and learning that sometimes God uses the hardest seasons of our lives to prepare us for the work He has called us to do. I’m really looking forward to this conversation and hearing how God has taken Jamey’s experiences—from the outdoors and business to firefighting, ministry, and some incredibly difficult seasons—and used them to give him a passion for serving others. I ran across today’s guest on Social Media and noticed right off that we share a common history as we both retired from The USDA - Wildlife Services. Dana Johnson earned a degree in Wildlife Science from Auburn University and spent 23 years with USDA‑Wildlife Services serving as a rabies biologist, airport biologist, district supervisor, and animal damage control biologist. Today we're continuing our bass fishing series with one of the most respected anglers in the sport of bass fishing —the 2019 Bassmaster Classic Champion, Ott DeFoe. Ott has built a reputation as one of the most consistent competitors on the professional circuit. Over an eight-year span, he finished in the Top 20 in more than half of the B.A.S.S. events he entered and cashed a check in nearly 70 percent of his tournaments—an incredible level of consistency at the highest level of the sport. His list of accomplishments are impressive. He's the 2019 Bassmaster Classic Champion, won Bass Pro Tour Stage Three in 2020, captured the Bass Pro Tour Heritage Cup in 2021, claimed the Heavy Hitters title in 2022 along with its $100,000 top prize, teamed up with Andy Montgomery to win the Knighten Industries Heritage Cup in 2024, and in 2025 put on a dominating performance by winning Bass Pro Tour Stage 6 on the Potomac River by more than 20 pounds. I just got back from a 10 day vacation with my family in the mountains.  We hiked.  We kayaked.  We fished.  We swam.  We watched sunsets.  We star gazed.  We sat in front of fires.  All these things declared the goodness of our God. Our guest today has lived a pretty incredible life and has quite a story to tell. He's a retired lieutenant from Texas law enforcement, spent time working as a private contractor supporting law enforcement, and these days he's living the life of a full-time working cowboy. On top of that, he's a husband, a father, a professional speaker, and an author. Born and raised in Texas, Sam eventually retired and made the move to Colorado, where he's enjoying ranch life while still making time for RV adventures, riding motorcycles, and hiking whenever he can. We actually came across Sam on Instagram, where he shares these honest, encouraging, and uplifting reels that really caught our attention. When Jesus says "Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest" He does so from a place of understanding as someone who experienced all the pain that comes with being fully human.  He says, I get you.  I see you.  I love you. 

In Today's show, I brought together John Weik of Northwest Spur Chasers, and Pastor Chris Taylor on Immanual Baptist Church in Glasglow, Kentucky to relive our incredible hunt for Merriam turkeys in Idaho and Washington.  A few weeks ago, John invited myself and Chris to join him in Northern Idaho and Washington to hunt Merriam turkeys. This was our first time to the Northwest to hunt turkey's and the trip was incredible. I have been fortunate to hunt all across this country for many species, but as you know, turkey's are my passion. Joining John and Chris, and Tom Watson of Promise Peak podcast was arguably one of the best hunts I have ever taken.  In short we bagged six birds in three days. But the hunt iteslf was amazing and incredible. We walked and walked, and called and called. Day one found us in Idaho, hearing birds gobbling at the top of a ridge. John led us on a trek that took hours to reach the top where the birds were. Winding around one corner and then the next for miles and miles. At every corner, we stopped, called and moved on. John kept saying, "they are just around the corner" we didn't know it would be 75 corners before we finally got to the birds. Chris and I doubled on the first group to show itself, and merely 100 yards later, we called in 3 more strutters and just sat and watched them for 15 minutes put on a show like I have never seen. The day ended with me taking my second Idaho bird. (All of this can be seen on John's YouTube channel - Northwest Spur Chasers) the next morning Chris got his second Idaho bird. Stetson Stafford was born and raised in the mountains of North Carolina, in a small town called Plumtree in Avery County—the home of Grandfather Mountain. Stetson has been hunting for as long as he can remember, ever since he was big enough to carry a BB gun. While his dad didn't focus much on deer or turkey hunting, he raised his brother and him running black bear in the mountains with dogs and occasionally took them deer hunting. His grandfather and great-grandfather later introduced him to deer and turkey hunting, which only deepened his passion. Hunting has always been a major part of his life, and he enjoys pursuing just about anything that has a season. He was saved at 10 years old and surrendered to God's call to preach at the age of 20. He married his wife, Bethany, in 2020, and they now live in South Carolina, where she's from. They have a four-year-old son, Hudson, and are expecting a baby girl this July. Today, at 30 years old, he is in full-time evangelism, traveling across the country preaching in revivals, youth meetings, wild game dinners, and wherever else the Lord opens a door. The outdoors have given him another platform to share the gospel with people he meets from all over who may never step foot into a church. 

This past Monday our nation paused to remember those who have fallen in service to our great nation.  This idea of rememberance is powerful and found throughout the pages of Scripture.  Today we take a brief look at Hebrews 13.7 and seek to remember those who have taught us the ways of the Word. 

Galatians 6.9 says, "Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary."  Wherever God has called you stick with it!  Fruit is never produced overnight but is always something that takes time.  

Sometimes equipment fails that is why we must do regular check up on the tools we use in the woods but also on the spiritual tools that guard our hearts.

The beauty of our God is that while He fully sees us He also could not love us anymore.  True we are messy but just as true, He is fully of grace, mercy, and love. Rest in that this week! This morning I recieved word that a dear old friend, ministry leader, and mentor had passed away.  So what you get today is very much in the moment.  Today I just share a couple verses that the Lord brought to mind.  While I do not feel it is appropriate to share names at this time, I would ask that you please pray for the wife, children, and grandchildren of my friend.   Philippians 1 & Revelation 2.5

Today I am joined by a dear friend and Co-Host of "Review this Thing" and Outdoor Gear 411" YouTube channels. Robbie Jessen has enjoyed the outdoors for as long as he can remember. From squirrel hunting as a kid to chasing turkeys and deer today, he has always felt closest to God while spending time in His creation. We all have intense seasons of hardship.  Why is that?  Who is to blame?  Sometimes the answer is that no one is to blame.  Sometimes our hardship is simply a tool being used by God go grow us and to display His glory.  Today Jon briefly shares from John 9 and also shares a piece of how God used hardship to change his life.

The Triumphal Entry, often referred to as Palm Sunday, is an important reminder that even though Jesus knew what awaited Him in Jerusalem that He still chose to enter the city.  He declared with this act that there was nothing He could not overcome and that you were worth it!

Doc Reed has worn many hats in his time as a business owner. From being one of the founders of HUK adn NOMAD hunting and fishing apparel, where he took these brands to more than $50 million in sales in just four years, to to being an auditor for Blue Cross and Blue Shield to his current venture as president of Marsh Hen Mill out of Edisto Island, SC. Marsh Hen Mill is revitalizing the old trade of stone ground grits and heirloom rice in the low country of South Carolina.  Doc shares with us the challenges of the appareal business and his transition into Marsh Hen Mill as President. He goes on to share how his faith has been instrimental to his companies and their success.

Nate Hosie was born and raised in the mountains of Pennsylvania in the town of Montdale. At six, Nat's father and gradfather began taking him on pheasant hunts and it didn't take them long to realize they had created a monster. As years passed his passion and knowledge for hunting grew. He began to hunt with two neighbors, country certified experts on hunting turkeys, deer, grouse and anything else that moved. Nate took an overwhelming interest in turkey hunting and took his calling and hunting tactics to the next level. Practicing yelping on a daily basis, he won several calling contests, earning the nickname "The Turkey Slayer". After a few years with Top Calls, a legendary call company, he began doing production and field staffing for Hunters Specialties, meeting Randy Birdsong.
