Jesse Blumer and I discuss trapping predators and how important it is to remove predators from the landscape to protect game species. Living in western Oklahoma, Jesse faces unique challenges as compared to where I live in South Carolina. His approach to trapping and removing predators is somewhat different from mine, but what you will learn is the importance of removing them from the landscape.  We also discuss Blumer's Outfitter's his family owned outfitting business in Western Oklahoma. This episode drops on the first day of Lent.  The 40 days preceding Easter where we as believers seek to refocus through prayer and fasting.  My hope is that you will consider the following questions as you step into the season of Lent: Are you relying more on your own strength or on God right now? What distractions are pulling you off lthe trail spiritually? How can you intentionally pursu God during this season of Lent?

Today's guest is the founder of Scooter's Hunt Camp  Scott was raised in the small town of Emmett, Id. Scott loves all sports and spent 6 years chasing dreams by playing college baseball.  After that didn't pan out baseball he came back to Emmett working several different jobs trying to find my place.  In 2006 the opportunity was presented to buy an Insurance Agency here in town.  He now owns this agency, and this was a GOD thing as the freedom of being his own boss has given him much time with his sons.  In 2007 Scott was introduced to Kami, a year later they were married.  In 2010 & 2013 they welcomed 2 amazing sons into their tribe.  I joke tribe as we are all registered in the Cherokee Nation.  In 2021 Scott lost Kami to Breast Cancer.  She was an angel here on earth, but God needed her with him.  In 2000 Scott was given the vision to give back to kids through hunting.  He was given a gift as a successful hunter.  In fact, in 2001 he was named the Idaho State Bowhunters bowhunter of the year. Scott founded and now directs the Scooter's Youth Hunting Camp in Emmett. Over the 26 years of being a part of this ministry and mission field for kids.  Scott is most proud of witnessing about his Savior and best friend "JESUS".  Over 26 years Scott has had the honor of sharing God's goodness and putting a Shotgun, Bow, Muzzleloader and .22 rifle into the hands of over 6,000 kids.  All for FREE and all through donations.  It has been a labor of love for Scott.  He works for the kids 24/7/365 as a volunteer.  SYHC is 100% volunteer with no paid staff.  The volunteers who show up for the camp are amazing and all get an Orange SYHC shirt.  The volunteer crew has been coined the "ORANGE ARMY" with the past couple of years being 120+ strong.  There is a joke around the area that Scooter has 4,000 nieces and nephews because of the interactions from this camp.  In 2015 Scott added to the SYHC by creating "Hunting Dreams".  This subchapter of the camp does 2 hunting trips a year for children who have suffered a life-threatening illness.  One Bear hunt each spring and an Elk hunt each fall with everything donated to fully outfit the hunters.  New Rifle, Binos, Scope, Rangefinder, Boots, clothes etc. etc. Then a whole week in God's country hunting and eating "Their" favorite menu.  The crew processes the meat and a taxidermist does a bear rug and elk shoulder mount for a forever memory.  Scott loves GOD, loves kids and loves being a servant. www.taurususa.com www.cva.com www.himtnjerky.com www.nukemhunting.com www.christianoutdoors.org www.citrusafe.com www.elimishieldhunt.com www.mossyoak.com

Today's guest on Christian Outdoors is Keven Schwieger. Kevin is the founder and CEO of Luke 5 Adventures. Luke 5 adventures is a non-profit adaptive hiking ministry based on Ohio. Kevin has spent his entire career in ministry with time spent on staff at Athletes in Action, church planting, and associate pastor roles in various churches. Kevin is also an outdoorsman who loves hiking, backpacking and all things outdoors. Kevin and Luke 5 Adventures is on a relentless pursuit to introduce or reintroduce, God's amazing creation to those impacted by disability.

Today's guest goes by the name Jagger, he hails from NW Montana. Jagger was born with spina bifida but that doesn't stop him from doing what he loves to do. He loves all things outdoors but like a lot of my guests, he is most passionate about Turkey hunting! Jagger is a resiliant young man, deomonstrating that while he has to walk with crutches, this does not stop him. His uncle has played a lage role in his life and started taking Jagger outdoors and hunting several years ago, we get to hear how Jagger has faced these challenges, but as he says, "I don't know any different, it has always been this way for me." Today is a just real talk.  Jon discusses some frustration in the very public failings of Christian leaders.  This seems to be a very regular occurrence in the Christian world and it simply ought not be.  If you are a teacher or a leader, you are held to a higher standard by God.  You sin always has fallout and affects those who you are called to lead.

I met today's guest back in September when we were both speaking at an event in Cartersville, Georgia. After hearing him speak, I knew I wanted him on the show. His name is Blake Hamby. Blake says, he has always had a passion for hunting. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for a year in 2008 as a Wildlife Management major. After that, he worked as a Wrangler, guiding people on horseback at the 320 Guest Ranch in Big Sky, Montana for a couple of years. He then returned home and began guiding deer and hog hunts in Southern Illinois and South Alabama for a while, before deciding it was time to settle down and pursue a job that provided a living wage. After marrying his wife, they launched a small apparel line called Southern Longbeards. Together, they started and ran their local NWTF Chapter for six years. Currently, he works in Sales at Three Way Campers in Marietta, Georgia, a position he has held for nearly ten years. He and his family are also deeply involved in their small church in downtown Adairsville, Georgia. Additionally, he helps coach his sons in baseball and football. Blake is also a successful Out of State hunter. Traveling to several states to hunt and he shares with us some of his keys to success in doing so. Today's guest needs no introduction in the world of Turkey hunting and call making. Here from my home state is Mark Prudhomme. Mark has been hunting all of his life, has a professional wildlife and land manager for more than 45 years. He says he has hunted turkeys for 40 years and counting. He has won 17 Grand National Championships including, turkey calling, Owl hooting and Gobbling. 5 Grand National Campion of Champions, 8 World championships including 2 world gobbling championships, 4 world owl hooting and 2 NRA game calling which includes 7 different species. 2 US open owl hooting championships, 2 Grand American Turkey Calling Championships, many state championships in SC and NC. Including the only person to win the state in every game call category. Duck, 2 man Duck, goose, Turkey, and Owl. Mark also qualified for and competed in the World Championship of Duck calling and has won the Rocky Mtn. Elk Foundation elk calling contests. Mark Prudhomme was inducted into the NWTF Hall of fame. He loves hunting and shooting with side by side shotguns and also enjoys traditional bow hunting. Mark also has a reputation for making trumpet calls and tube calls for turkeys. Mark says he was saved at an early age and was raised in church and is a member of First Baptist Church in Georgetown, SC where he served as a Deacon. Today's guest is Russell Brelsford. Russ as he prefers grew up in northeastern Pennsylvania mountains where he spent as much time outdoors as possible. He was blessed to grow up in a Christian home with parents who were excellent role models for him and his two brothers. It was there that his love for the outdoors blossomed. Growing up in a hunting family, it was a natural progression that he began to hunt at the age of 12. Russ' love for the woods eventually grew into a passion. As he reached his thirties, is quest for adventure started to lead him on big game hunts outside his native Pennsylvania woods. From the west to Northern Maine and Canada, Russ ventured into the wilds with his rifle in one hand and video camera in the other. Earlier this year he was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of hunting the dark continent of South Africa. Not only did he get to bag a host of animals, but as he says, God opened the door to an unexpected blessing and opportunity. Gebben Miles has been shooting and coaching professionally since 2002. He has become a multi time World and National Champion and has coached many successful shooters.  His desire is to inspire people and help them grow in their shooting abilities and personal lives. Tom Walton is a Christ follower, husband, and passionate outdoorsman. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Tom has been in law enforcement for 13 years and is currently a detective and SWAT team member. He has also guided a few hunting and fishing trips in his home state of Idaho.   Over the last 13 years, Tom has been involved in numerous critical and traumatic incidents. His law enforcement career has put a strain on his life and marriage. Thankfully, Tom turned to Christ and the church for help.    With he and his wife in a much healthier place mentally and spiritually, he has become passionate about helping his fellow First Responders and Veterans find peace and healing. Jeff Davis began a mission along with his wife to help fatherless boys. It began small, but has grown into chapters in 12 states. Using the outdoors as a platform. Jeff and his team mentor fatherless boys by teaching them about outdoor skills. These skills include proper use of firearms, archery, camping, fire starting and even some other life skills. Many of the boys have never had a positive male figure in their lives. Truth in Nature provides that for these boys and young men. Spending time wiht these boys and young men, enables them to see and have a positive male figure in their life. But there is more to it than just camping, or shooting bows and arrows. This is a time to enstill in these young men the values of godly men. Turkey hunting in the northwest is not talked about a whole lot in the turkey world. But when it comes to hunting hard to kill mature birds in the Pacific northwest, there are few others who are better than today's guest.  John Weik of Northwest Spur Chasers, is the man behind the camera and mystique of the northwestern turkey.  Today, John walks us through, nearly 20 miles of it as he chases only the hardest to hunt and kill turkeys in the northwest. In the outdoor community the name Matt Busbice is as familiar as mama's macaroni and cheese. His family started a host of brands that are synonymous with the outdoor community. From a pioneer in Outdoor television to the depths of alcohol and cocaine addiction, to being deep in debt, Sandy Brady has lived it all.  Growing up in Reidsville, NC, it was a chance meeting at a gas station in Chamberlain, South Dakota that began his journey. While pumping gas, Sandy bumped into Tom Miranda, this was the late 1980's and a friendship struck up that let to Sandy becoming a camera man for Tom while everything was just beginning.  A few years of success led to Tom having to fire Sandy becasue of the addiction that was taking hold of Sandy....as he tells the story, you will be drawn into his pain, and authenticity. Sandy's journey was a long and painful one that ultimately led to him being disowned by his father, his wife leaving him, and more than seven figuers in debt. Russell Andrews is also a National Champion caller in many levels including the 2025 NWTF Gobbling Champion and the 2025 World Gobbling Champion. He also shares his testimony of how God has helped him through a trying time in his life.    Russell Andrews, Co-Owner and Operator of Black Label Game Calls, has been a consistent disrupter in the wild game call industry since July of 2022 when he and his partner, Jesse Martin, took their passion and transformed it into a product. When Russell's father was senselessly killed in May 2024 (article featured in “The Call” NWTF magazine), Russell's entire approach to cultivating his business shifted from being sales-focused to using turkey calling to spread the Gospel. Russell turned to his turkey calling family through all of the grief and anger, and poured his efforts into preparing for turkey calling contests, winning the Gobbling division of both the 2025 NWTF Grand National Calling Contest and the 2025 World Turkey Calling Contest. In John 4 we read about an encounter that Jesus had with a lady at a well in Samaria.  Prior to this we learn that the religious elite wouldn't even enter into Samaria due to their prejudices.  The question we must ask ourselves is, are my prejudices limited my ability to live holy and to offer hope to the world?

Ben Klusmann has a passion for his home state of South Dakota and wants to share it with everyone he can. Thus, So Dak Horizons was born.
