Charmayne Geier has been a fire marshal in racing for more than 20 years, working with both the NTT IndyCar Series and NASCAR. We practically ran into each other at the Thermal Grand Prix back in March. After our initial meeting, I wanted to make sure that we could get her on the www.raceschool.com podcast for our Women in Motorsports month of September. A subsequent meeting with her at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach sealed the deal and we recently sat down for our first, female-focused, Zoom video podcast interview with her. She's a top professional at her craft, yet has a warm and engaging personality. Just the type of person you want working alongside you. Enjoy!NOTE: This is the fourth of four, female-focused interviews during our “Women in Motorsports” month of September. For more interviews with other women in motorsports as well as the top motorsports industry professionals, please visit: www.raceschool.com and click on the Podcast tab.
I have always loved the idea of the great American road trip, romanticised in so many films and books. So, this episode I am delighted to have photographer Ben Geier to tell us about his decade traveling America on the road, his tips for the perfect great American road trip, and the nostalgia of America's forgotten towns.Ben shares his tips for the perfect cross-country road trip, why the architecture and design work of the 50s and 60s still speaks to us today, and why America is still a magical place to get a little bit lost. There's no doubting the beauty of the design and architecture of the '50s and '60s America. From bright teal, sun-splashed and gleaming motel signs to cherry red diner seats, these two decades have held America's attention for 75 years. American photographer Ben Geier has spent the last decade traveling the United States to capture the images of his country's once vibrant and now abandoned treasures in his new book Viewing Hours. Evoking a sense of nostalgia and solitude, Geier's work highlights the modernist architecture, minimalist design, and muted colour palette of the mid-century. In this episode of Street Shots, Antonio and Ward sit down with photographer Ben Geier to talk about his book Viewing Hours. Ben has been photographing America's vanishing culture—storefronts, motels, neon signs, and old theaters—bringing a mix of punk DIY energy and design sensibility to the work. The conversation digs into the stories behind his road trips, the role of chance in catching the right moment, and how his photos live somewhere between art and archive. They also get into bigger ideas around nostalgia, memory, and impermanence, weaving in connections to Walker Evans and the Bechers while keeping the focus on Ben's unique perspective. Antonio relates it back to his own move to Nebraska and the challenge of seeing with fresh eyes. What unfolds is an easy, thoughtful exchange about how personal history, design, and music shape the way we notice and photograph the world. Creativity through the lens of a photographer and designer"Ideas are something you catch!"Largely influenced by his Midwest upbringing, Ben's pursuit of photography first began with a fascination for the abandoned. His unmistakable aesthetic and color palette have breathed new life into faded old spaces, and since then he has focused on broadening his work to capture architecture, roadside attractions, and, his true passion, all things retro and Americana. A multifaceted artist, he has spent over 20 years working for numerous design agencies, a quality which can be seen in his work.Website: bengeier.comInstagram: @bengeierphotographyThreads: @bengeierphotographyBluesky: bengeierphotos.bsky.socialTrope: https://trope.com/products/viewing-hoursSend us a text

The provided sources discuss the legal doctrine of preemption, particularly focusing on federal preemption of state laws in the United States. They explain that the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution establishes federal law as paramount when conflicts arise. The texts outline two main types of preemption: express preemption, where federal law explicitly states its intent to supersede state law, and implied preemption, which occurs when federal intent to preempt is not explicit. Implied preemption is further divided into field preemption, where federal regulation is so pervasive it leaves no room for state law, and conflict preemption, where state law either makes compliance with federal law impossible or obstructs federal objectives. The sources also highlight the ongoing debate between state and federal powers, with different stakeholders advocating for broader or narrower applications of preemption depending on their interests. The primary function of the Supremacy Clause, found in Article VI, Clause 2, is to establish federal law as the "supreme Law of the Land." It ensures that validly enacted federal laws override conflicting state laws and constitutions, providing legal hierarchy and national uniformity.Federal preemption is the doctrine that invalidates conflicting state laws when Congress exercises its legislative power to displace or override state authority. Its core constitutional basis is the Supremacy Clause, which mandates that federal law prevails over inconsistent state enactments.Express preemption occurs when a federal statute explicitly states its intent to override state law, often through a specific clause. Implied preemption, in contrast, arises when courts infer Congress's intent to preempt state law from the federal law's structure, purpose, or comprehensiveness, even without explicit language.Field preemption occurs when federal regulation is so comprehensive or the federal interest is so dominant that courts conclude Congress intended to occupy an entire regulatory field. A common characteristic courts look for is a "pervasive scheme of federal regulation" that leaves no room for state supplementation, as seen in areas like alien registration.Conflict preemption applies in two main situations: first, when compliance with both federal and state law is physically impossible (impossibility preemption); and second, when state law "stands as an obstacle" to the accomplishment of federal objectives (obstacle preemption). The "presumption against preemption" instructs that federal law should not be interpreted as superseding states' historic police powers (e.g., public health, safety) unless Congress's intent to preempt is "clear and manifest." It reflects the constitutional principle of federalism, preserving a meaningful role for state autonomy.State common law, particularly tort law, can be affected by obstacle preemption. For instance, in Geier v. American Honda Motor Co., a state tort law requiring airbags was preempted because it stood as an obstacle to a federal regulation that gave manufacturers a range of options, including not installing airbags, reflecting a federal objective of flexibility. The Supremacy Clause directly binds state courts by requiring judges in every state to apply federal law, even if it contradicts state law or state precedent. This means state judges cannot refuse to hear federal claims or decline to enforce federal statutes due to local disagreement.Yes, federal agency regulations issued under valid statutory authority have the same preemptive force as federal statutes if properly promulgated. Similarly, executive agreements, when entered into pursuant to constitutional authority (especially regarding foreign affairs), can also preempt conflicting state laws.A "savings clause" in a federal statute is a provision that explicitly limits its preemptive effect, stating that certain categories of state law are not preempted. Its general purpose is to preserve state author

Welcome to the seventh episode of The Movies And Me, a podcast project of ours where in each of these episodes we sit down with a filmmaker, writer, someone who works in the film industry or just someone who is a big cinephile who just lives for movies. We talk about their creative projects and also discuss their four favourite films that have inspired them to go out and have a career in film. Or four films that have least inspired them to seek out the career they have today. On this episode, we are delighted to chat with a friend of Adam's, Chris Geier. Chris is a fan/friend of the podcast. He is a former journalist and an author. His novella Silt is available to purchase and read. It can be found on his publisher's website Alternating Current Press. The plot of Silt is: "Cincinnati, 1856. German immigrant Werner Bosenbach has a part-time job collecting shady debts and a full-time drinking habit. When he is hired by a wealthy widow to hunt down those responsible for her husband's death, Werner is drawn deep into a city bursting with corruption, nativism, and long-simmering racial tension. From violent dock workers and crooked marshals, to operators of the underground railroad and the slave hunters they oppose, Werner must navigate the dangers and divisions of his adopted home to find some answers and, with any luck, some lager." Fans of Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett and Cormac McCarthy should check it out. We really enjoyed having Chris Geier on the podcast and talking to him about the four favourite films of his that he picked. If you haven't seen them, you should check them out. It was a very fun conversation. Anders's screenwriter work can also be seen in the western The Outlaws which is a available to watch in the US, Finland & the UK on Amazon and Apple TV for example. The Leadership Stress Crisis: Why 52% of CEOs Think Their Culture is Toxic (And What to Do About It) Ready for a reality check that'll make your executive chair spin? A groundbreaking 2024 study just dropped some seriously uncomfortable truths about leadership stress, and we're here to unpack the mess—and show you the way out. Here's the kicker: 52% of CEOs view their own company culture as toxic, while 55% admit to mental health struggles. Even more shocking? 81% of leaders still view mental health issues as weakness or burdens. Talk about a leadership contradiction that's begging for some serious intervention. The Leadership Paradox: When You're Both the Problem and the Solution We dive deep into why more than half of company leaders feel trapped in toxic cultures they themselves created. It's like being the architect of a building you hate living in—except the blueprint for change is still in your hands. The Isolation Epidemic: Why Leaders Suffer in Silence Discover the brutal truth about leadership loneliness and why "complaints go up, but when you're the CEO, there is no up." We explore how the Superman complex is literally killing leadership effectiveness and what you can do to break free. The Strength in Seeking Support: Redefining Leadership Courage Here's our truth bomb: Asking for help isn't weakness—it's the strongest thing any leader can do. Your Leadership Legacy: Beyond Performance to Presence Stop chasing performance metrics and start building something that actually matters. We've all worked for leaders who thought their legacy was built on quarterly earnings and growth charts. Spoiler alert: it's not. In this eye-opening episode, our hosts dive deep into what really creates a lasting leadership legacy – and it's probably not what you think. The Real Talk on Leadership Legacy What Makes a Legacy Stick? Legacy isn't about the corner office, the golden parachute, or even the company profits you generated. It's about presence, authenticity, and the ripple effect you create in people's lives. Think Ebenezer Scrooge – his wealth didn't make his legacy, his transformation did. Authenticity Without the Attitude Being "authentic" doesn't give you a free pass to be difficult. The best leaders filter their authenticity through wisdom, leading different people in different ways while staying true to their core values. It's about being genuine, not being a jerk. The Parent-Leader Connection Leadership doesn't stop at the office door. Whether you're leading a team or raising kids, you're constantly creating legacy through your daily choices. Every interaction is either building up or tearing down the impact you'll leave behind. The Phone-Down Challenge In our always-connected world, presence has become a rare commodity. True legacy builders know when to put the device down and show up fully for the people in front of them. The Bottom Line Your legacy isn't what you accumulate – it's what you activate in others. Performance gets you noticed, but presence gets you remembered. The question isn't whether you're leaving a legacy (you are), but whether it's the one you actually want. Tune in for: The brutal truth about why performance-based legacies fail How to lead authentically without becoming "that" leader The surprising connection between parenting and leadership legacy Real strategies for being present in an always-on world Why your message matters more than your metrics Ready to build a legacy that actually lasts? This episode will challenge everything you thought you knew about leadership impact.

Have you ever felt like your body is just stuck? Like no amount of stretching, foam rolling or chiropractic visits hits the spot? In this episode, we're peeling back the layers—literally—with a chiropractor and fascia whisperer who's here to crack more than just your spine. We're diving into the weird, wonderful world of fascia—that sticky, stretchy, superhero web of tissue that's been secretly holding your body (and maybe your stress) together for years. I'm speaking with the brilliant and unconventional Dr. Bryan Geier, a fascia-focused chiropractor who's redefining how we approach movement, pain, and healing. Forget the standard spine crack—Dr. Geier dives deep into the fascial system, the often-overlooked connective tissue that influences everything from posture to emotional trauma. With a unique blend of science, intuition, and hands-on expertise, Dr. Geier shares how unlocking the fascia can lead to dramatic, lasting results—without surgery, pills, or endless PT appointments. Whether you're an athlete, a chronic pain sufferer, or just fascia-curious, this conversation will change the way you think about your body.
Unspoken Pain Points: What Every Leader Feels But Never Admits Are you feeling the weight of leadership in silence? You're not alone. In this candid episode of No More Leadership BS,the No BS Gang dives into the taboo topic of leadership struggles that most executives keep buried. The Desolation of Command Leadership can be profoundly isolating. This desolation often stems from our own decisions without having the right peer group to understand the unique pressures of leadership. Rather than grinding through it solo, discover why connection is crucial. The Authenticity Paradox Leaders fear vulnerability will diminish trust, yet the opposite is true. "Humbleness is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less." When you're fixated on yourself, you become less trustworthy. True leadership elevation comes when you embrace authentic connection. The Invisible Burnout Many leaders have normalized overwork to the point where burnout becomes invisible. Geoff points out that disconnection plays a major role: "An empty cup can't fill up anything." Learn why creating genuine relationships outside your leadership role isn't just beneficial—it's essential. The Bottom Line These unspoken pain points require a safe, confidential space to address. The panel unanimously agrees: every leader needs a coach, mentor, or confidant to break the cycle of isolation. Your leadership style sets the example for future leaders—make it sustainable. Tune in for: Ways to recognize burnout before it's too late ->How vulnerability actually builds trust instead of eroding it ->The critical reason your benefits package is worthless if unused ->A practical first step to breaking the cycle of leadership isolation Remember: "The reason it feels lonely is because you've decided for it to be lonely. Change that cycle. You'll become a better leader, you'll feel better about it, and relationships at work and at home will get better—and that is no BS."
In their most urgent and emotionally charged episode yet, Dr. Jonathan Howard and science journalist Wendy Orent confront the accelerating unraveling of public health institutions in the United States under the RFK Jr. administration. They open with a flood of disturbing headlines: Peter Marks, the nation's top vaccine expert, has been ousted. Measles is surging in Texas, and children are arriving at hospitals with liver failure after being treated with toxic vitamin A overdoses—recommended by RFK-aligned influencers. The CDC and NIH are being gutted: funding pulled, scientists fired, and research into vaccine hesitancy and mRNA technology halted. David Geier, a disgraced figure with a history of chemically castrating autistic children, has been tapped to lead a new federal vaccine safety study. Howard and Orent don't hold back. They rip into this dystopian reversal of public health, where disinformation peddlers are now calling the shots. They highlight the sheer absurdity and danger of putting figures like Jay Bhattacharya, Scott Atlas, and Geier in positions of power—people who have spent years sowing distrust in vaccines, downplaying COVID, and demonizing public health measures. The episode draws a brutal contrast between the lived reality of frontline doctors and essential workers—many of whom died in early pandemic waves—and the self-styled martyrs of the anti-lockdown movement, who now paint themselves as victims. One particularly enraging example: Bhattacharya's claim that he felt “unsafe” on Stanford's campus after a flyer was posted with his own quote alongside Florida's Delta wave death tolls. This, while over 20,000 Floridians died in that wave, many unvaccinated due to the policies he championed. A major target of their critique is the book In COVID's Wake, which they say rewrites history by glorifying the authors of the Great Barrington Declaration and ignoring the real human toll of their misinformation. Orent and Howard dismantle the book's central claim—that these anti-lockdown figures were treated unfairly—pointing out that many of them became media darlings, got promoted, or were appointed to powerful roles. Meanwhile, real scientists and doctors who fought on the frontlines were ignored, censured, or worse. They also expose the cynical “woke-washing” by these same figures—claiming to champion the poor and marginalized while promoting policies that left essential workers unprotected. Their concern for “equity,” Howard and Orent argue, was nothing more than rhetorical cover for libertarian, laissez-faire ideology. As the episode barrels toward its conclusion, one message becomes chillingly clear: We are watching the active dismantling of public health—science silenced, disinformation rewarded, and truth replaced by ideology. And as Dr. Howard puts it: “If we had predicted these headlines six months ago, we would've sounded insane. But now, they're reality.” This episode is a searing call to action. For scientists. For journalists. For anyone who still believes in truth, public health, and protecting the vulnerable. Because as Orent warns: “The wild horses of the plague apocalypse are descending... and the party's just beginning.” Connect with us further on https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/author/jonathanhoward/ The Fine Print The content presented in the "We Want Them Infected" Podcast and associated book is intended for informational and educational purposes only.

#211: On a recent trip to Biofach 2025 in Germany, Linley Dixon visits with former IFOAM (International Federation of Agriculture Movements) president Bernward Geier to discuss ways to maintain organic integrity around the globe amid growing industrial pressures. Market forces, political influences, and variances in integrity among certifiers are all contributing to the growing differences between the EU and US organic labeling systems, with the EU growing their acreage planted in Organic and corresponding labeling programs, and the US importing the majority of their offerings on the shelf while keeping their farmland dedicated to chemical agriculture. Whether you're an organic farmer, industry insider, or eco-conscious eater, this episode offers a deep dive into the critical issues defining the future of sustainable food production worldwide. Bernward Geier is the former director of IFOAM (The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements), a role which he held for 18 years. He is the current director of COLABORA - Let's Work Together, a nonprofit focused on bridging the overlap in sustainability movements between agricultural and ecological organizations. Bernward serves as a board member for Vandana Shiva's organization Navdanya, and is also a celebrated author, filmmaker, and speaker. To watch a video version of this podcast with access to the full transcript and links relevant to our conversation, please visit:https://realorganicproject.org/bernward-geier-doing-right-in-wrong-systemThe Real Organic Podcast is hosted by Dave Chapman and Linley Dixon, engineered by Brandon StCyr, and edited and produced by Jenny Prince. The Real Organic Project is a farmer-led movement working towards certifying 1,000 farms across the United States this year. Our add-on food label distinguishes soil-grown fruits and vegetables from hydroponically-raised produce, and pasture-raised meat, milk, and eggs from products harvested from animals in horrific confinement (CAFOs - confined animal feeding operations). To find a Real Organic farm near you, please visit:https://www.realorganicproject.org/farmsWe believe that the organic standards, with their focus on soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare were written as they should be, but that the current lack of enforcement of those standards is jeopardizing the ability for small farms who adhere to the law to stay in business. The lack of enforcement is also jeopardizing the overall health of the customers who support the organic movement; customers who are not getting what they pay for at market but still paying a premium price. And the lack of enforcement is jeopardizing the very cycles (water, air, nutrients) that Earth relies upon to provide us all with a place to live, by pushing extractive, chemical agriculture to the forefront. If you like what you hear and are feeling inspired, we would love for you to join our movement by becoming one of our 1,000 Real Friends:https://www.realorganicproject.org/real-organic-friends/To read our weekly newsletter (which might just be the most forwarded newsletter on the internet!) and get firsthand news about what's happening with organic food, farming and policy, please subscribe here:https://www.realorganicproject.org/email/
