Eric Michel, Sam Oberfores, and Tyler Obermoller join the podcast to talk with Robbie about their Minnesota deer fawn survival study. Eric Michel and Robbie know each other from Robbie's days at Mississippi State University when he was a professor, and Eric was a PhD student working in the MSU deer lab. Eric is the deer biologist for Minnesota DNR and has published a fantastic study on predator dynamics and foreign survival of whitetail in Minnesota. You don't often see a DNR agency putting out great interaction science like this. Eric invited a DNR colleague Tyler to come onto the podcast, as well as Sam who is the master student on this project. They discuss deer fawn mortality on the farmland, and the science behind the study. Do you have a questions we can answer? Donald Trump made good on his pledge to work at a McDonald's restaurant on Sunday, and the media had nothing but praise for the convicted felon. But what few outlets reported at the time was that the entire event was staged and the McDonald's was closed. Even the people in the drive through line were hand-selected to participate in the staged event. Everything about this was fake, like Trump himself. Also, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham appeared on Meet The Press on Sunday, and he ended up going completely bonkers when host Kristen Welker asked him why the generals who worked with Donald Trump call him a fascist. Graham started viciously attacking the Biden-Harris administration, as if that were some kind of answer to the question, and then he took aim at Republicans who are supporting Harris. The whole thing can only be described as a meltdown from Graham. And with the 2024 election just two weeks away, Vice President Kamala Harris is scoring some very important early victories over Donald Trump. The first is a new poll that shows that she is beating Trump 2 to 1 among early voters, a huge advantage that allows her to focus on undecided voters for election day. The second is a poll showing that Independents are breaking for Democrats by a 9-point margin, which could easily be enough to swing the election in a massive way. And even before reports emerged telling us that Elon Musk's Super PAC was not doing the actual work of door-knocking that they'd been hired to do, reports were coming out telling us that insiders at Trump's campaign were starting to freak out over the complete lack of a ground game in swing states. His campaign promised a month ago that they were going to be opening new offices and hiring more people in swing states, but that never happened. With just a few weeks to go, it may be impossible for the campaign to make up the ground that they've lost. Finally, during an event in Pennsylvania over the weekend, Donald Trump defended his mental prowess by repeatedly slurring his words, getting the name of the interviewer wrong, and failing to complete sentences. In fact, at one point Trump simply said "I have no cognitive," and stopped the sentence right there. The man did the entire event while sitting down because he doesn't even have the energy to stand for these events anymore. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, we are joined by Cam Bostock. With more than 600K Followers, Cam is a bonafide Instagram hiking celebrity. On this episode of the Deer Season 365 podcast, we talk with Kyle Hedges, of Land & Legacy, about fawning cover. We dive into why good cover is important for whitetail fawns, along with five ways to create it based on your current habitat conditions. It's an often overlooked aspect of managing a property for white-tailed deer, but an important one to consider, so be sure to give this episode a listen. Verge Center for the Arts sparks debate about inclusivity in Sacramento's creative scene. Also, it's peak time for baby deer - the dos and don'ts during fawn season. Finally, Aggie Square in Oak Park is putting a callout for local muralists. Controversy at Verge Center for the Arts Two artists of color were evicted from Verge Center for the Arts in March, sparking a public debate about the inclusivity of the region's art scene. Many artists say it's symptomatic of broader trends outside of Verge. Earlier this year, SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC) was publicly embroiled in a dispute over keffiyehs. And Wide Open Walls received backlash for overlooking Asian artists in their Lunar New Year and T?t mural. CapRadio Reporter Srishti Prabha shares conversations with leadership at Verge, as well as with local artists of color who argue these issues highlight the need for more inclusive practices in the Sacramento arts scene. Wildlife Dos and Don'ts for Fawn Season Spring is the season of new beginnings and that includes a variety of wildlife - like baby deer. Fawns are making their way into the world, and most of the time it is best to honor the “wild” in wildlife, and just leave them alone. But some humans can't seem to help themselves, and they interfere with Mother Nature. Dave Cook (also known as Deer Dave) is a fawn rehabber at Sierra Wildlife Rescue and joins us as he gears up for another busy season. Aggie Square's Callout for Muralists A major project in Sacramento's Oak Park neighborhood is putting a call out for local artists. The UC Davis Aggie Square innovation district wants to create two mural projects and is collecting artist applications until May 20 - with an information session on May 1. Donald Gensler is the Arts in Public Places Manager for the city of Sacramento and shares more details on how artists can apply for the projects, as well as the steps being taken to ensure that the selection process is open - and equitable - to artists from all communities and backgrounds.
Dr. Larsen and Dr. Mcmillan receive "Conservationist of the Year" at the 2023 Hunt Expo The last thing you are going to hear any "coffee shop biologist" say, is that fewer bucks on the landscape would make more fawns. In fact, every expert knows the only way we are ever going to "increase deer populations" is to cut tags and limit hunting bucks. I mean, look at all the units out west with extremely limited buck hunting, the mule deer populations are EXPLODING there! Right?! Well..... ok maybe not. Why? If reducing buck mule deer tags is beneficial, why aren't those populations exploding? The truth is, and yes, even in 2023 no matter how they identify, the doe deer or females in the population "grow the herd". Think of it like this, a rancher would never have a pasture full of bulls when he can have that same pasture full of mother cows. He is going to have enough bulls to breed his cows, that gives him maximum productivity. There of course comes a social component to hunting, and YES, hunters want to see bucks, big bucks. Where is the best place to manage buck to doe ratios? That is the million dollar question that; spoiler alert, we don't answer. However, Dr. Randy Larsen and Dr. Brock Mcmillan of the BYU Ecology lab jump on todays podcast to share some professional light on it, as well as talk about a variety of things involving mule deer biology and what they are learning. These guys are some of the best in their field and heavily involved with some of the foremost mule deer research there is. As always, I think this podcast will help hunters get a deeper understanding of some of the biology and science that is Mule Deer Management. Pregnancy Rates comparing 14:100 vs. 26:100 Buck:Doe Ratio Cause Specific Mortality is important information Dr. Brock Mcmillan on the Gohunt Podcast Dr. Larsen on the Rokcast Podcast last year with Robby Denning Dr. Larsen on Feeding Deer Podcast

He claimed that Russian scientists are close to completing a cancer vaccine that would cure cancer. Not only is this absurd, but there are already cures available in nature that have been suppressed by pharma for decades. Nonetheless, while the Mainstream Media attacks Putin and supports Zelensky, the mainstream alternative media are creating a "new narrative" that's convenient for the establishment as it distracts from the real truth and misdirects people towards blind allegiance to a fake alternative. The mainstream alternative media, a term popularized by David Icke, is now promoting a cancer vaccine because Putin announced it. Putin, the same guy who locked down, had vaccine mandates, is creating a CBDC and bows to the Chinese government. It's called "controlled opposition" and yet people are so easy to fall into it today due to the constant hyperbole and disingenuous claims by the media. The puzzle pieces are being fit together perfectly for the Great Reset. It goes without saying... DO NOT take the "cancer vaccine." Taking a vaccine in general is stupid. It's another level of stupid to take a cancer vaccine. Many countries have been working on so-called "cancer vaccines" for the past decade, most of which are mRNA based. Meanwhile, so many ignore apricot seeds, chlorine dioxide, CBD-A, Vitamin C, etc. Stay tuned for more from WAM! As the rut wraps up in Iowa, the crew give their thoughts on the transition from peak rut to post rut. Stories are shared about psycho fawns in the timbers and how easy they can mess up a hunt. As the guys normally do, they got a little off topic and discuss why most hunters are probably overthinking leaving scent behind in the timber.

That means groceries should be abundant across the landscape. Fawns and getting ready to drop and antlers are well on their way to developing. Hunter's minds are shifting towards food plots to determine the need to plant, just go fallow, or return during the fall to plant. During this podcast, we go through the different scenarios that way we face on our food plot acres. The approach is different for us both, but we have distinct goals and objectives that plan directly into the approach. We are planting heavier grain plots that most years for several reasons, but the main reasons are for weed control and for the purpose of heavier winter foods. In years past, we have increased the number of acres in perennial crops, which freezes up more ground to do in corn or soybeans with the intention of leaving grain. Now that it's spring (READ: BABY SEASON!), well-meaning humans often assume that because a fawn is alone she must be an orphan, leading to numerous fawn “kidnappings” each year. In today's episode, I share tips, guidance, stories, and advice on what to do if you see an "abandoned" baby fawn or an injured adult deer. Even if you don't encounter these situations directly, it's sooo helpful to know what to do so you can pass it along to your friends, family, and neigbors. —————— Support this podcast today at JoyfulVegan.com/Donate Visit my website: JoyfulVegan.com Join me on an all-inclusive vegan trip: JoyfulVeganTrips.com AFFILIATE PARTNERS: Nama Juicer — Use this link and coupon code COLLEEN10 and get 10% off my favorite juicer.
