Send us Fan MailThree turkeys in one spring sounds like bragging rights until you hear what it actually takes. I'm Ken Marr, and I sit down with Ontario turkey hunter and caller Adrian Hare to unpack a wild run that spans three countries and three very different birds: an Osceola in South Florida, a Gould's turkey in Durango, Mexico, and an Eastern turkey back home in Ontario. If you love spring turkey hunting, this one is packed with the kind of details you only get from someone who has chased gobblers for decades and still pays attention to what the woods are telling him. We start with Adrian's background on the Quaker Boy pro staff and what competition calling taught him about diaphragm calls, reed counts, and why certain cuts create the rasp and realism hunters chase. Then we dig into tactics that travel: how to hunt quieter Osceola turkeys without overcalling, why a patient sit can beat running and gunning, and how he approaches morning birds versus afternoon birds. We also get into shotgun decisions like using a 410 with TSS, pattern confidence, and how regulations and shot size choices affect performance. Mexico shifts the strategy again. Adrian explains why dry country makes water holes the center of the game for Gould's turkeys, how fast these birds move, and what rocky hills and valleys mean for setups and calling. Finally, we come back to Ontario for a blunt look at turkey population drops after deep snow winters, why fewer hens changes everything, and what hunters can watch for as hatch rates and spring weather shape the future. If you enjoyed this conversation, subscribe so you don't miss the next one, share it with a turkey buddy, and leave a quick review so more hunters can find the show.Check us out on Facebook Hunts On Outfitting, or myself Ken Marr. Send a textEastern turkeys have a special talent for making you second-guess everything you thought you knew. One minute a gobbler is blowing up on the roost, the next he's gone quiet behind an invisible line he refuses to cross. I sit down with Anthony, producer and host of Line Of Sight TV and a multi-time Canadian calling champion, to get beyond generic turkey tips and into what actually moves the needle when you're chasing Eastern wild turkeys under real pressure. We talk woodsmanship first, because you can kill more turkeys by listening than you can with all the calling in the world. Anthony breaks down how he enters a new piece, when “cutting and running” works, and why you need a setup plan before you ever hit a box call. From there we get detailed on situational turkey calling: soft tree talk with a slate or pot call, changing tone to mimic fly-down, building intensity until he's cutting you off, then backing down to play hard to get so he has to come looking. We also dig into decoys and turkey behavior that most hunters learn the hard way. Why full-strut tom decoys can scare birds late season, how a breeder hen with a quarter-strut jake can trigger a fight, and the underrated move of targeting the dominant hen. If you can cut her off and make her mad enough to investigate, the gobbler often follows. We wrap with scouting fundamentals like roost listening, dusting bowls, strut sign, and even what droppings can tell you, plus where to watch Line Of Sight TV.If you want to hunt smarter this spring, subscribe, share this with a turkey buddy, and leave a review so more hunters can find it.Check us out on Facebook Hunts On Outfitting, or myself Ken Marr. The discussion covers spring hunting strategies, common mistakes turkey hunters make, and how calling techniques can make the difference between tagging a bird or going home empty handed.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The turkey hunting circle is relatively small, and inside is an even smaller circle of turkey callers. This tight knit group is made up of some of the biggest names in the hunting industry, and some names you've never heard unless you follow the calling contests trail. From Matt Van Cise, Ronnie Cuz Strickland, Bob Dixon, the Drury Brothers, to names like Ray Eye, Jami Linder, Paul Butski, Walter Parrot. He has won Grand National title in Friction calling and Team Calling in Friction. He has worked to bring calling contests back to the NWTF Chapters, and get the Alabama state championship back in the Tuscaloosa Chapter. @jamilinder1146 @MossyOak @BoneCollectorTube @pinhotiproject @official_NWTF
This week we are joined in studio by two turkey calling contest crazed individuals, Lann Wilf and Jason Conrad. This week we are continuing our mini series telling the stories that happened to our guests after they were on the podcast. I am joined by Damien Nissley as he shares a story about his spring turkey that involved trying to stalk up on a turkey, and eventually having to call the turkey away from his own decoy! I also share a few stories of mine from the past about a variety of hunts. For instance there was the time I tried to out call a couple of hens to get a strutting gobbler to my decoy, only to later learn that my decoy was probably facing the wrong way. Or the time I was unprepared for a Tom to come in so fast and I didn't have my gun up so I ended up missing the bird three times instead. I also talk about the time I woke up from a nap to find three toms about 100 yards away and how I tried to sneak up on them. On top of all that I recap one of my Canadian fishing trips from this year where, one at a time, every motor on the boat stopped working and we had to paddle to shore. With turkey season far in the rearview mirror I find that the best thing to do is to reminisce on past hunts and plan for the future. So I hope that wherever you are or whatever you're up to you can take a trip down memory lane along with me and Damien this week! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Turkey calling with Scott Ellis throwback
Today I'm joined again by Michigan native Jeremy Bugay. Jeremy was on episodes 98 and 144 and talked about deer hunting. Today he shares how for 4 years he's been going after turkeys and striking out. That is, until this year, when he sent out a letter and gained permission on a property that would lead to his first turkey harvest. Check out Jeremy's video here: https://youtu.be/GMRlP1AwCl8
On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman, Mitch chat's with Matt Dale from Dale Outdoors. Mitch opens by recapping his exciting week of turkey hunting and filling his second tag at the end of week one with a bow! If you listened to last week's episode of Mitch's opening day gobbler, he talked about using the "whine" call. He first heard this call explained on one of Matt's youtube videos. We begin our conversation by diving into this call - what it is, how and when to use it, and its context for hunting situations. We continue down the rabbit hole of keeping realism in your turkey calling. This includes using "wheel-wheel's", "do-it do-it's", gobbler yelping, and more. We discuss the value of volume and cadence in calls, especially in everyone's favorite yelping scenario. How does a spring turkey hunter yelp sound vs. how does a real hen yelp sound? Last, Matt recaps a hunt for a bird he called "Quirky", which took 7 hunts until he connected by pulling out an old secret weapon. This is dynamite turkey hunting information to keep you fired up midway through the season! Check out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more relevant, outdoor content! We have a treat for this week's show on the Missouri Woods & Water podcast with returning guest and turkey hunting beast Scott Wilper. We talk about Scott's experiences at different calling competitions like the NWTF national calling competition among others and how they differ from being in the woods and the art of calling there. We also talk about youth season and some awesome memories Scott was able to make there. Then we finally get into some listener questions for Scott including questions about mouth calls, purring and clucking, turkeys and the rain, strategies for the different sub species, and more. A special thanks to Scott for joining us again and thanks for listening! Aaron, Hayden and I talk about situational calling techniques for pressured turkeys. We discuss a variety of situations and talk about specific examples where different calling strategies brought in a gobbler. Hunting turkeys can be frustrating when they seem to constantly hang up, go the other way, or stop gobbling when you start calling, but by discussing different situations hopefully we can help you feel more confident when calling to a bird this season!
