What's better than putting a plant out in the garden, tending to it lovingly, and then reaping the reward of a harvest at the end of the season? Planting that plant one time and reaping the rewards year after year after year, of course! That's the beauty of a perennial fruit, vegetable, or herb. Plop that puppy into the ground one year and give it a little attention each season and it can continue to provide for years or even decades. Today we're going to talk about the difference between an annual that readily self-seeds and a perennial and we'll go over the most suitable perennials for each hardiness zone. This won't be a deep dive, instead just a quick overview so you know what to plan for and what to shop for so you can get in on the perennial game in your garden. Let's dig in. When the Tardis doors suddenly blast open, you would think the worst that could happen is that the Doctor and his friends get sucked out into time and space... right? WRONG, due to some obscure plot device, they suddenly find them self's shrunk down and having to solve a murder mystery involving deranged businessmen and killer chemicals. What's the worst that could happen? Well, quite a lot, as it turns out, join us this week as we delve into the troublesome world of Planet of Giants, an episode that somehow ranks worse than Edge of Disruption. Meanwhile, Owen has some potentially controversial views on Tom Baker's nook SCRATCHMAN, and James tries to be a Dalek. Join James and Owen as they take a deep dive into Doctor Who's past, starting from the very beginning. Cheap sets, grumpy old men, unhealthily dedicated teachers, and so much more lie in wait. Ben and David talk about Scratchman! It has been over forty years since Tom Baker and Ian Marter had lunch in the pub and came up with the idea for a Doctor Who movie in which our hero would battle the Devil. Does the novel based on these boozy mid-1970s ideas that Tom wrote with James Goss hold up? How does it compare to what has been previously published about the script? Listen in as David discusses listening to Tom read his story and compare notes with Ben who read it himself off the printed page. Opening music is from Simon Power's sound design for the Scratchman audio book. Closing music is from the Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil."

"Weirdos!" It’s not often that a Doctor Who story reviews Jim and Martin but this is the topsy-turvy world of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy. It’s all a bit of a circus as the Ringmaster puts the 'c' into 'rap', a foxy artiste blames it on the moonlight and the Chief Clown grins all the way to the emergency dentist. Ace is victim to some violent conducting and the Doctor prances, prestidigitates and experiences a warm burst on his exit. Peaceful hippy Bellboy makes killer robots, Deadbeat mopes around waiting for Lovejoy to turn up and Mystic Morgana wishes she’d never agreed to a fan meet-and-greet. Captain Cook bores himself to death, a new stand-up dies on stage and Peggy Mount proves to be the Worst Dinner Lady in the Galaxy. So did Jim and Martin enjoy the roar of the greasepaint and the smell of the non-existent crowd? Or were they reaching for their zero score cards? Listen to find out and to hear the lads review the Tom Baker and James Goss novel, Scratchman.

A bit introspective this week as Ben and David talk about watching Doctor Who during times when the show is not much to their liking. Prompted by Ben finally purchasing the DVD for Time and the Rani and a listener asking why do we still watch if Series 11 wasn't much to our liking? Ben takes a paternalistic view of Who and David reflects on what first got him hooked on Who during Tom Baker's run on PBS, such as cliffhangers and the location filming. What looked exotic and otherworldly for David growing up in the Midwest United States was the comforting and familiar for Ben growing up in Britain. We talk about the new Scratchman book and how it might be a bit of a car crash, if articles in DWM are any indication, but then we are the target demographic for such a book and its nice that something other than senior housing is being prepared for men of a certain age. Plus discussion on what's to come in upcoming weeks on M2P. Opening and closing music is by Keff McCulloch from his score for Time and the Rani.
